They have a great variety on their menu. Everything is available at any time of day - especially their breakfast! The pancakes are thick and probably more massive than you can fit in your belly :-) I ordered the Deluxe Cheeseburger, which comes with fries. Everything was great! They offer sweet potato fries or onion rings in lieu of fries for an extra $1. Everything on the menu looked wonderful, and all were around $11. The Island Cafe isn't as capable of accommodating a group of 10 as Flyers is, but parties of 5 or less can sit comfortably. Good solid food. Busy place but a short wait even when packed. Quick service and a nice staff. They use hamburger gravy, which was a bummer, but I think it's made in house. We're here with 6 people, got only 3 waters and 3 silverware. Asked for water three times, 10 minutes later some food has come but still no more waters. Isn't waters at the table kinda basic? I ordered food to go here on a friday night, the food was okay besides the fact it I got the wrong food in one of the boxs my wife wasnt happy that she got the wrong food, my own food was really moist from the box being closed made the food taste terrible. I've come here before and food is fine when you dine in, my overall expierence was pretty bad this time aswell the Guy who took my order and took ATLEAST 10 minutes to hand it to me that and he doesnt speak up i had a hard time hearing him. Before we even get started down the road of my review of Island Cafe, it is only fair to mention that I have given this place no less than 6 chances to impress me and atone for their previous mistakes in what I feel was a fairly straightforward dining experience. That is 6 chances to straighten out the kinks of my previous visits. Did they work it out? Well... When you first arrive at Island Cafe after the labyrinth of turns just to get into the parking lot, you will notice that the term "parking lot" is used loosely here. It's kind of like when a realtor tries to sell you a tiny house and calls it "cozy". At any time during breakfast dining hours, the parking is downright frustrating. Between the folks that can't seem to nail the concept of between-the-lines navigation, and the huge trucks that seem so prevalent in Oak Harbor, you really need huge bonus to your luck to find a decent spot that won't earn you copious door dings from neighboring vehicles. This is not exactly the Cafe's fault, but keep it in mind if you are looking for a stress-free dining experience. I would say the average time to be seated, across all my visits, is about 15 minutes. Mind you, this is usually at peak breakfast hours, which is between 8 and 11 am. If it's Sunday, skip this place altogether, as you probably won't be seated for closer to a half an hour. These are long times to wait for what you receive, but more about that later. After being seated, I have never received water or coffee in a reasonable amount of time. The wait staff seems to have been trained to dump you in a booth, drop a few menus on the table, and hurry off to address whatever is more important than their customers. I believe I have waited somewhere in the area of 10 minutes before being asked what we would like to drink. Throughout the typical island Cafe experience, this seems to be the trend. I don't need 30 minutes to look at a menu to decide what I would like to eat, but thanks for giving me space, I guess. Furthermore, if you find yourself in need of additional condiments, silverware, or a warmer on your coffee, bring a flare gun, as it seems like that is what you might need to get a server's attention. In their defense, the wait staff is usually friendly if not overworked, though I'm not sure all of them understand what I am saying half the time, as the looks I have gotten when asking about different menu items range from quizzical to downright panicked. Another experience inspires me to mention that it's almost laughable to spend the time asking me what kind of toast I would like if you are obviously spinning a roulette wheel and just serving me whatever the marble lands on. Not even ONCE have they gotten my toast right. Not once. So, the food. I'm reading a lot of reviews that say blah, bland, not spectacular etc. etc. and unfortunately I tend to agree with them. Their scrambles are decent, if not a bit overcooked. The breakfast burrito usually arrives with a nice cold pocket right smack dab in the middle where the cook has piled all the refrigerated food, which is most unfortunate. The salsa is a solid marginal, but that's because I believe it comes from Costco. The chorizo is nowhere near spicy or flavorful enough to be called chorizo, and I have actually been served eggs that were supposed to be scrambled and well-done, but were in fact runny. Who serves runny, liquidy scrambled eggs? Could be a health concern there. 3 of the times I have brought my son here for breakfast he has ordered a hot chocolate, which is beautifully portrayed in the menu as having fluffy clouds of whipped cream and playful candy sprinkles to tantalize the children's eyes and palate. But wait, they are out of whipped cream and out of sprinkles, so your 7-year old will have to settle for powdered hot chocolate that hasn't been stirred enough to dissolve all the powder. YAY! If you think a decent steak is within reach of the kitchen, think again. They break out the roulette wheel again for the done-ness of the meat. You want medium-rare? Well-done and charred it is! Don't like any pink? They will go out of their way to make sure it bleeds on the plate. I could go on about the quality, but I'm pretty sure by now you get the idea. So let's talk about price. Price, price, price. Hmmmmm. Well, Island Cafe seems to have clearly realized that they are one of the only breakfast games in town, as their pricing schedule is on the high side for the quality of food you receive. Try not to choke on the remnants of your meal when they hand you the bill, as it may just shock you. You can expect to spend between $60-$70 for breakfast for a family of 3. Dinner is about that too, with lunch specials dropping the cost a bit (a small bit). All in all, I would honestly recommend that anybody that is considering eating here to avoid it. I have been here a few times and will most likely not return. The food is mediocre and too expensive for the quality. The coffee is crap, we are in an area with a coffee stand every hundred yards. You can't serve weak burnt tasting coffee and expect nobody to notice. I most recently had the Benedict and the hollandaise sauce tastes like it comes from a jar, overly sweet and not at all tangy as a hollandaise should be.
