We're just in town for a couple of weeks and stopped by for breakfast at 9am on a Sunday morning. I had the chorizo and eggs. Hubby had the huevos rancheros. Both were excellent! (And I'm very picky about my chorizo.) We sat at the bar and watched the cooks in the kitchen. They were all having fun and were very efficient, moving around each other like a well-oiled machine even though they were super busy! The server was friendly and funny. What can I say, my boyfriend and I are regulars here. This is our Sunday spot to eat if I don't work. The staff is always great and so friendly. The restaurant is very clean and the food is always so good. The burgers are my favorite. The patties are made with premium beef steak ground up fresh. It's a good enough breakfast place for Oak Harbor. It is always crowded for breakfast, so I just prefer going to IHOP where there is a bigger menu, and a bigger Resturant to hold more people than Island Cafe. It may be further to drive, but in my opinion it is worth it to me. read more

Why isn't there an online Menu? You only have the option to View Menu & Order (for now or for later) or download the App. Seems weird you can't just put a normal menu on the website. Price per portion is alright, you pay a little extra but you get a lot of food. However the food is bland at best. As if seasoning was thrown out the window. I have never written a review good or bad however never in my life have I been treated so poorly at an establishment. I've frequented this place for years for breakfast being as though it's one of few places in oak harbor. I ordered five orders to go. Upon returning home I realized that they had forgotten one of my orders. Being in the food service industry I understand that mistakes can happen. However whomever handled my order put four Togo boxes in one bag basically smashing the meals together. Completely unacceptable. I called and said I wanted my money returned. I was asked to bring the food back which I did. When I got back to the restaurant I waited 10 minutes just to get a refund. They acted as if it was no concern to them that they had a disgruntled guest. I asked to speak to the manager and the lady said she was the manager. I let her know that the service was completely unacceptable. Her response to me was that she'd never gotten a Togo order come back like that. She also said to me that she didn't think that it was the restaurants fault that my order was the way it was. I don't know where she gets off thinking that I have to time to waste a complete hour on my Saturday to spend 60 bucks only to demand that it be returned. I was not offered a new meal....I was not offered any sort of a comp on any of my meals and I'm completely furious with this establishment.....to the point that I'm writing a review. I don't do this normally because being in the industry myself it's never good to see a bad review. Never would I allow a guest to leave as unhappy as I am today. Never would I as a bartender argue with a guest whose fault it was. Let alone as a manager whose job is to alleviate such a situation. Norma I believe is the name of the manager that I spoke to. She is worthless at her job and should be demoted if not fired for the way she speaks to people. I got home only to call the restaurant back to ask for the general manager. Unfortunately he is away and won't return until this Monday. You can bet that he will hear from me and I can only hope that he isn't as combative as the people he chooses to run the place while he is away. I will never return to island cafe. Not due to my food but due to the lack of professionalism and the way I was spoken to. If I were my 20 yr old self I may have thrown a bigger fit than I did. Second time. Greeting and seating was fast, but of course we arrived at a wonderful time. No line no wait. Quickly seated and served. Marsilla our waitress was very friendly. Island cafe, which started out in another location on Pioneer in Oak Harbor several years ago has very deservedly grown to several locations that I know of. Their growth is the result of the combination of very good food and great service. An unabashed cafe with the resulting cafe food that is all done very well is the reason for their popularity. Expect a short wait for seating at popular times. Their view on portion control is..... What would a hungry teenager want? You won't go hungry here! I particularly love their bacon cheeseburger. And their homemade corned beef hash. And their huevos rancheros. And their breakfast burrito. And their.... Well, you can tell where this is headed! read more

This place used to be a great place to eat. The kids liked going and it was reasonably priced and everything tasted great. The last few times we have gone it has steadily gone downhill. Today I was very disappointed and will not be giving it another chance. I ordered the philly cheese steak sandwich. I have ordered it here before and it was pretty good. Today there was one slice of mushroom on it total and a very small amount of onion and bell pepper. The meat was sliced far too thick and made it hard to eat. The sandwich was cut in half and half easily one third of the sandwich was empty. Asked the waitress for a side of ranch. She brought me a cup and told me it was ranch. Just by the look of it it was not ranch, turned out to be tartar sauce. Quality seems to have gone out the window here. Sad. read more

This used to be our favorite place for breakfast. Sad to say, not anymore. The last time we went for breakfast the scrambled eggs were cold, the bacon was cold and the toast was burned.
