I love Jamaican food! I had to start off with that lol. I recently relocated from Georgia to Maryland and have yet to find good authentic jamaican food, until now! Chef G & his team are doing it right! I've visited on many occasions and don't know why it's taken me this long to review, but here it is. It's already hard for me to find good authentic Jamaican food, but add being a vegan on top of that which slims my options down even more. When I visited I asked the bartender if I could get veggie curry {which wasn't on the menu} she called for the chef and he assured me he could make me something delicious, this is where I got excited. While I waited, I got a tasty boozy rum punch from Layah*, she has the best customer service and conversation...I almost forgot I ordered because we were having such a good combo! Once I got my food to go, I of course had to taste the product and when I tell you this was a very flavorful, authentic, nice portion dish he whipped up for me! This is the only place I'll get Jamaican food from, period! I wish I took pictures, but you know how that goes. read more

Good is consistently good. Service is always warm and welcoming. However they did have a recent septic tank problem and it had turned my family away several times, the smell was just awful. However this does not effect how good the food is time after time. Hope that situation gets remedied. Otherwise order to-go or Ubereats but still order. Just called in a order of Jerk wings & Ox tail dinner unfortunately I am not pleased. I've eaten dinners from here on numerous occasions which summoned me to return. Mac & cheese taste like boxed pasta no flavor and greens were minced as if they were from the frozen vegetable section of the nearest grocer. I even asked if they were canned greens. Wings taste as if they were cooked before and set back into the freezer. I didn't feel up to preparing a meal this Sunday afternoon and was hoping to get similar quality of my cooking but instead ended up with over cooked non flavored wings, boxed Mac & cheese, and frozen greens. $26 that I wished I still had! read more

Pros: Only 1. The bathrooms are clean & exploding with fragrance, almost in a WillyWonka fashion. Wax warmers and scented oils everywhere & car fresheners hanging in the stall. Side-eye. Cons: Everything else. Poor service, long wait, bad music, poor vibes, & unprofessionalism. Details of my experience .... This location is NEW and attempts to be a more high-end Jamaican lounge; with tasteful decor, a bar, and a focus on entertainment like Karaoke Nights. However their attempt is a FAILURE. There's nothing high-end about pathetic customer service and an EMPTY KITCHEN. I came here with my fiancé and he wasn't able to order because EVERYTHING we asked for off their menu...they didn't have. Not the entree, the drink, nor appetizer. So what is the point in having it on the menu? Not even something as simple as a DUMPLING. Our server let us know that dumplings are actually only made on Saturdays and aren't even cooked in-house, smh. Good to know, but rather ridiculous considering dumplings take NO TIME to make whether fried or boiled. I'm a Jamaican, that kind of foolishness makes us look bad. And that info should be printed on the menu, it's only common sense. Our server was dry and sassy, easily off putting attitude, (attitude that she didn't hide when I changed my order), but she was helpful with the menu. All items aren't listed, like the Mac n' cheese I ended up ordering. What genius leaves food off the menu? And adds food that's not there?... So Be prepared to ask questions when you come here. We were hungry and came a long way so My baby said he'll grab food elsewhere but insisted I eat. Give Oasis a fair chance since we're already here. So I ordered the Fried Tilapia w/ Rice and peas & Mac n'cheese. I waited forever as they served 2 TABLES before me despite the fact we were their first. The other table ordered OXTAIL...everyone knows it takes longer to cook that beef than my Fish. After it became apparent how ridiculous this was the Manager/Cook just murmurs "We didn't forget about you" as he breezed by to the other table. And I literally mean murmured almost under his breath. I appreciate the implied acknowledgement but smh that is not acceptable. Especially after what took place moments before. As we were waiting the same Manager/Cook (a large light skinned man) was playing music from YouTube on the flat screen. After a great reggae song he decides to play a Popcaan song full of explicit lyrics. As a mature couple walks in the first thing everyone hears blaring out the speakers is Pxssy-this and pxssy-that and curse words rained down as the lyrics popped up on the tv so there was zero mistake about what was said ... Imagine the shock, lol. So he runs to change the song, but it was too late. Everything was already awkward and the ladies were offended. A smart person would have had a playlist set up already so there would be no stale pauses or f-bomb surprises. My fiancé jokingly said to the man he could play another genre. The man quickly rejected like "NO" and shook his head and started mumbling under his breath. Mumbling seems to be his go-to. Real bad attitude. As if to redeem himself the guy decides to play WASHED UP stereotypical Bob Marley tunes and then.... CHURCH MUSIC. Church music on a Wednesday afternoon.... in a BAR. What fooooolishness?! Meanwhile, after abt 25mins our server finally re-filled our drinks. She re-filled mine but not my fiancé's. We came together so that was very strange but he let it go at this point because he was completely turned off, we just wanted the fish to come so we could GO. When the fish finally came, to NO ONE'S SURPRISE they forget to put the jerk sauce on the side. The salt in that injury of that detail is the fact that it was the server that SUGGESTED it, smh. The food was hot and actually yummy. Not enough rice but the Mac was good. The sauce on the fish had a hint of sweetness. The batter it was fired in was waay too salty though so definitely did not make it worth the wait, rudeness, and DEAD VIBES. This is not a scene for young happy people. In the end I'm not surprised because I found out Oasis/Mirage Lounge is owned by the same people that run Island Pride. They own pretty much every Jamaican establishment in MOCO and can NEVER get their selves together! read more

First of all I have been going to Island Pride Oasis ( or as I like to call it, The Mirage) since it first opened I believe in 2017 (this location) and I fell in love from the jump. Please don't get this Island Pride confused with the one across from Montgomery College Rockville! They couldn't even compete with the Oasis. They didn't have the best service in the beginning but they were new and learning staff. Their staff now is absolutely amazing! Me being Jamaican and growing up with an amazing Jamaican cook for a mother, also going to Jamaica every summer, I can vouch that this place is the most authentic Jamaican food you will ever get in the DMV PERIOD. Everything on the menu is delicious. I love how the food is made slightly different every time you have it which shows me that it's made from the heart not some repetitive recipe book. I'm actually hoping that they are open tomorrow "Good Friday" so I can pick up some fried snapper and rice & peas, this COVID- 19 can't get in the way of my fried snapper! This was a terrible experience... let me start by saying I was on my lunch break and me and a few of my coworkers decided we wanted some fish (I wanted jerk fish which is really good at the Hungerford Dr. location and my coworkers wanted the red snapper with the head) so I called up Island Pride location on Hungerford Dr. and asked them if they had Red Snapper with the head they said yes. Me and my coworker headed to the Hungerford Dr. location to find out that they in fact didn't have it but one of the employees said the location up the street on South Frederick did. They gave me the number and while standing there I called the location and asked if they had the red snapper with the head and they said yes and it comes with 2 sides and even gave me the address to the location. I told them I was at the other location and wanted to come there to get the fish they said it is cooked to order and I told them I wanted 2 orders and and gave them my sides. We drives about 10 minutes and arrived. When we walked in there was no one there to greet us just one person at the bar eating and another eating at a table. We waited about 3 minutes for someone to come from the back and greet us. Once she came out she asked if we were picking up I said yes and told her what I ordered. After looking thru her handheld POS she tells us there is no order. I tell her I called and spoke to a young lady and placed my order she looks at me as if I'm making the whole thing up. Then she goes to the back and gets someone I believe to be a manager and he too is looking at me with a smirk and grinning as if I'm lying about placing the order. He says there is no order in my system and I tell him I called this location while at the other location and had a whole conversation with the young when placing my order. I then pull out my phone and show him my call detail that show I called them over 20 minutes prior. He then says yes that's our number (obviously because you can't deny it now). She then says she doesn't know what happened and that it takes 20-25 minutes to make mind you we were on our lunch. Irritated I tell them no we don't have time. My coworker then orders a small fried plantains within not even 2 minutes she comes with a bag and says $4.00. We leave and get in the car my coworker proceeds to open and eat the plantain only to see that it wasn't even done. Terrible service ruined any chances of me coming back or suggesting this place to my friends or coworkers. read more

The food isn't great. I have visited this restaurant twice and the service food left much to be desired. The price is ridiculously high for what's being offered. On my first visit, I ordered a roti. Which was pre-ordered before I got to the restaurant, thinking that it woukd be ready when I got there. Nope. I ended up waiting an additional 25 minutes for it to be prepared. When it finally came out, the roti skin tasted like it was frozen and then defrosted. Now, I don't expect them to make roti skin from scratch everytime, but I do expect them to reheat it in a way that doesn't taste like microwaved dough. Although I was disappointed, I still decided to give them a second chance. On my second visit, I decided to go during lunch and ordered Snapper, with rice and peas and plantains. A simple order that shouldn't be too heavy for lunch and Shouldn't take too long to prepare. Well...30 minutes later I'm sitting there with no food. Meanwhile customers who came in after had eaten their appetizers and received their meals. At 35 minutes I asked, how much longer to which the waiter/bartender responded "it will be out soon." I sat there for another 10 minutes, hungry and frustrated before I decided to tell them to cancel the order and I left. This is unacceptable. I will not return to this restaurant and will also not recommend. If you like sitting, waiting for average food..go ahead and dine here. read more

The jerk chicken here is insanely moist, spicy , and flavorful. I ordered the 1/4 white meat small and the portion was a very good size with with white rice smothered with jerk sauce and very tasty collard greens. Also got a spicy beef patty that was good but not memorable. Look forward to trying more dishes in the future. Not sure about the negative reviews but I had a very positive experience. Disappointing first experience. The roti skin/wrapping was inedible (the texture of cardboard). The product that I got was not acceptable to serve to anyone. The chef/cook would know that. Me and my best friend ate here on two other occasions, and we were amazed at the professionalism of the staff. First we wanted to sit together, and not feel cramped so they opened up their banquet area so we would be more comfortable and turned on the Jamaican vibes music for entertainment. Then the chef came out to greet us I think his name was Norvell. Our waitress Sonia was not disappointing either, she did her best to accommodate. Excellent customer service! I had a birthday celebration of 15 people for my mom on 2/18/18 and the chef Henry and waitress T did an amazing job! I met with the chef a few weeks prior to the event to go over my mother's food allergies. He told me to come up with a list of what she could have and give it to him before the event. Not only did the chef come in on his day off to take care of my mom but he also came out and sat right night to her and help her decide what to order which made her extremely comfortable. This was a huge deal because she has not been able to sit at a restaurant and enjoy a decent meal in a long time due to her food allergies. We really appreciate the Chef Henry and his staff and will definitely be back for more! This is the best of the best in Moco. I've lived in Germantown/ Gaithersburg area for more than 30 years. Please visit this awesome place. The food, drinks,and service is excellent. There is a small wait for your food but it comes out fresh and hot. Just the way i like it! You do not have to pay extra to enjoy this great environment full of live music. I highly recommend it to all that want to experience a great time. Make sure you let them know not to spicy is the only thing I would suggest. Dinning at the Island Pride Oasis restaurants has been a great experience for us. We cannot begin to tell you how much of a great time was had. So, usually i would have a party at my house for my birthday, for my 2017 birthday i decide to find a place that was close to family and friends, I celebrated my 37 birthday dinner with family and friends at Island Pride Oasis restaurants in Gaithersburg. Upon arrival the atmosphere was already set with great music. The room was so comfortable and absolutely spectacular and Kozy. Our waitress was truely genuine in serving us, taking our order and delivering our food on time. we tried the spice shrimp, oxtail, curry shrimp with rice and peas and much more. Mi a tell yu, the food was a Big thumbs up, Delicious, Divine, so Finger licking good, and UP LIKE SEVEN UP.... Da chef BAD!..... Whomever came up with such spectacular, delicious menu, know what people enjoy the most. At the end of the night our waitress pack up all gifts and brought them to my car.
