Best $16 you can spend! I went to Island Style on a Monday afternoon. The place is cozy and welcoming. I was given an excellent haircut by a friendly barber/ stylist named Chris. I didn't ask for anything too complicated - just a simple man's cut. I was in & out of the chair in 15-20 minutes with a great look. Plus I enjoyed good conversation and the peace of mind knowing I would walk out of there looking good. As a young professional with limited means, I need to look my best while not breaking the bank. This is my place! I recommend Island Style to all looking for a solid cut at a great price. read more

Yep! Like others, I would give them a ZERO or NEGATVE stars for the REVIEW if I could. For all those that gave them a good reviews, they are either their friends, family members or ladies that got their hair cuts from the wife. As for a guys and strangers who got the hair cut from the husband named Chris, it was a bad experience from the walk in time until the end. 1. Bad location - No Sign of where to park 2. Bad Ambience and ABSOLUTELY NO Customer Service 3. ABSOLUTELY Bad hair cuts for GUYS, unless you are into prison/military style hair buzz. NO Styling or what so ever. Don't expect any. 4. High Price for bad hair cut. $16!!??!!!?!!? - better hair cut in downtown from Matt for $8. From the moment I walked into this place, I felt as if I have just walked into someone's house and ask if they could give me a hair cut. I have no clue who is a barber/stylist or a customer. The whole time I was there, they were chatting with their friends in the shop and gave me no attention as a customer. I totally felt out of place. I asked the guy Chris for a simple trim, but he totally looked confussed and buzzed my hair. One side is higher than the other and looks like mistake were made all over the places. I felt as if someone just walked off the street and did my hair cut with no experience at all. The whole time when he was buzzing my hair he was too busy chatting with his friends and did not pay any attention he was doing at all. Love supporting family run, local businesses and this is one of them. Shirley and Chris are awesome and they are so good with kids. My daughter (8) loves getting her hair cut from Auntie Shirley. I also get my hair cut with Shirley and she treats you like a friend. I used to dread going to the salon and making the dreaded fake chit chat with the stylist. I just received my first cut at Island Style from Chris. It was a great experience! I'm trying to grow out my hair, but just needed my short style cleaned up. He knew exactly what to do and even let me edit at the end, changing the look a bit to my liking. Now I have a cute little A-line! I get my hair cut their all the time. Chris is really fast and cuts it just the way I like it without having to tell him how I like it cut. There is lots of parking in the lot behind the building. I never have to wait to cut my hair when I have an appointment. Plus, they have a TV you can watch while you get your hair cut. read more

Another great Yelp find! Here from out of town for a few months and just needed a decent haircut. i've got crap thinning hair so it's a little tricky to not make me look any balder. I got there at opening time and Shirley asked if I had an appointment, and although I could tell she had bookings, she invited me into the chair and did a no-rush great job. Shirley was awesome as all the other reviewers above said. She made it so easy to shape my head? Sort of flat on one side, but she managed to not do what other stylists do. Others would just start cutting away without asking questions about what they should consider. Island Style Cuts is the best bang for you buck! read more

Super cool people and good hair cuts...First time I went there to just trim the sides, went from shaved head to growing the top. Chris charged me less because it was just the sides. $25 for women's haircut, no wash. Made an appointment. Took about an hour. Ample street parking, but I walked, so didn't matter. Paid cash. I donated my hair, so I needed a minimum 10 inches cut off. I usually get the 10 inches chopped off in a ponytail all at once, but this time, Chris straightened my hair and cut it off bit by bit, because he said that chopping all of it off at once in a ponytail would make the length really uneven (and the resulting haircut afterward would therefore be even shorter), and I had requested the resulting hair be long enough to put up in a stubby ponytail to play sports. I usually don't go for straight hair because my hair is naturally curly/wavy, but this apparently allowed the end hair length to be about 2 inches longer. I was a little concerned about how the haircut would be after I washed it, and my hair returned to being curly, but Chris told me to just come back if there were any odd spots, and he would fix it. I was very pleased the next morning (after washing my hair) to see that the hair was indeed curling again, but in a surprisingly nice and controlled way. Have not been this pleased with a haircut since I saw a 1000 yen ($10) haircut sign from a bus in Japan and hopped off. I'd say this one is even better because it's shorter, which makes my hair curl more, and therefore more difficult to cut nicely. Great cut that exceeds the quality of pricier salons. Would definitely go back after growing back another 10 inches. read more
