This is a small place with a few tables. The cashier/server is very kind in spite of being incredibly busy doing two jobs. I had the steak burrito and will say that it was good, but the steak needs to have the fat trimmed from it and that there wasn't much steak in the burrito. My dining companion had the ahi burrito and said it was good. The only complaint there was that the wasabi aioli didn't have enough wasabi. The sauteed cabbage adds an interesting dynamic to the burrito. The burritos came with a side of dirty rice and refried beans. The rice was good, but the beans lacked flavor. Island Taco was a pretty good lunch spot after our hike in Waimea. We ordered the cheese enchiladas with rice and beans and a fish burrito. I think that the food is pretty well seasoned, but I will say that it tasted kind of like a Tex-mex place, with the rice and beans with heavy seasoning similar to that tex-mex flavor, parts of which we thought was a little bland. It was fine, but it wasn't special. The meal itself was pretty standard, the portions being not too big and not too small. Basically, we didn't find anything special about this place but it did hit our craving for Mexican food after the hike. There was no line when we got there at 11 am and we got our food within 10 minute of sitting down. This place is a little small, sharing the patio with the clothing souvenir store next door, and with like 3-4 tables outdoors with no tables inside. They also do not have a bathroom, though the souvenir store has one next door for paying customers. Considering how busy I saw them get over the next hour, I think this place could invest in a bathroom (or even a portable bathroom outside). read more

Yum! Tacos Hawaiian style. Handmade flour tortillas. Can you think of any reason NOT to eat here?! The Kalua Pork tastes like smoky char, and the sautéed cabbage underneath is really perfectly done. It cuts through the fat, and I love the scoop of rice at the bottom that catches all the meat drippings. The Wasabi Ahi is a horseradish heaven. It's basically a poke taco with a sharper sauce. Done and done. I love Island Tacos, and I love island tacos. It's a great Hawaiian take on a Mexican classic, and you can get a full meal for a little over $10 a person. A great spot after driving up to see the Waimea canyon. The line was long, the other reviews were good, so we stopped in for a bite. I don't eat fish, so I was limited. I got the chicken teriyaki tacos. Too sweet and they fell apart. Drove by this place on the way to our hike, on the way back we decided to stop. Place is way over rated, we ordered the one each of beef, mahi mahi.....first let me tell you the wait was over 25 minutes with only 1 person in front of us....okay I thought they must be excellent tasting if they take this long, well, way overrated, the beef was very salty and over seasoned, the mahi mahi was super fishy tasting, we ended up wasting half of each! At $13.00 each not worth it. The service was very slow, you had to clean your own table, they have a spray bottle and a dingy wet towel, no napkins, you have to ask. Great experience eating here. Food was delicious, really happy to see taco and burrito options that mesh mexican and hawaiian culture. Coming from California, I was glad they didn't just offer traditional mexican meats but instead went for meats like Kalua pork. My friend and I were on our way back from adventuring on the southern side of the island, and we were hungry. It is always nice to get fish tacos when vising the Hawaiian Islands. We're vegan and have been here for four days so far. This was the best tasting vegan food we've had so far. My husband had the burrito and I had the tacos, both with Cajun flavored tofu. We always make it a point to come here for their fish tacos. Despite the distance, it is worth the hour long plus drive and their tacos never disappoint. Both the tacos and burrito had good flavor...I could taste the cajun spice in my burrito...good presence of flavor, but not overpowering. The seared wasabi ahi tacos had just a little kick to it, but not enough to say it was too spicy. Overall meal was very tasty. Pricey than most taco places, $16 for 2 and the burrito was $12, but still I thought the food was great. Limited indoor seating at a open counter inside, a few tables & picnic type tables on the patio. Definitely a place to try if you're in the area or heading to/from Waimea Canyon. read more

Did not enjoy this place. It definitely is not the best taco on the island. I had the cajun seared burrito, and my husband had the cajun seared ahi flour taco. The only difference between the 2 is that one is wrapped like a burrito, and the same filling on both. The tortilla tastes good, and I believe they are handmade. The ahi was terrible, small cubes that were not seared but cooked all the way through. The sautéed cabbage overpowers the ahi and can hardly tell you are eating ahi. Staff was very friendly and nice. I remember not liking this place about six years ago anyhow I gave it a try one more time I had a fish burrito and it was disgusting.. There was such a horrible old fish smell I just couldn't eat past three bites... The rice and the beans on the side were also beyond commercial it seems they were season so much that you can't even taste the beans you're tasting more of the seasoning.. One of our favorite meals we have had on Kauai! We stopped by after hiking based on reviews and craving this type of cuisine. The tacos did not disappoint! I ordered the Chicken Taco with Teriyaki on a flour tortilla and my fiancé had fish on corn. If you get flour you only get one larger taco and on corn you get two smaller tacos. The price is a little high for what you get but the meals do come with homemade tortilla chips and salsas. We tried both the hot and mild and preferred the hot. We did not leave a single drop of food on our plates. It was delicious! The space is just in a small hut off the road. Looks a little run down. My mom and I love eating small portions at several different places to try as many foodie stops as possible. We were across the street when someone recommended Island Taco and my we walked in as soon as we were done at the nearby place. We ordered the seared wasabi ahi because the wasabi aioli sauce was enticing! It was lightly seared (almost completely raw) with cabbage and rice, the wasabi aioli sauce wasn't spicy at all and the creaminess went well with the ahi. The burrito came with rice and beans as well as salsa. I thought adding salsa to seared wasabi ahi (I mean, this isn't your traditional burrito!) would taste weird but surprisingly it was tasty! On Kauai for a few weeks for work and decided to check it out, worst mistake!!! But let's get into it Parking was good as there is ample street parking. Atmosphere ok at best, small beat down shack with 7 picnic style tables outside. Price was ridiculous $10.75 for two corn tacos or 1 flour taco!!! A little bigger than street tacos. Staff was ok just order takers no conversation or any sign of friendliness. But the worst part was the taste or lack of it, wasabi was very light barely any flavor and ahi wasn't seared it was raw poke style. See attached photo to see for yourself. Came here on the way back from Waimea Canyon as the crew were looking for tacos...saw the yelp reviews and rolled the dice....missed the spot at first, but made the fort to circle back and was glad we did...kind of a roadside stop along the way to Waimea Canyon, but a relatively imaginative menu with lots of seafood options for tacos, burritos and the like...staff was helpful and they even had some vegan options including tofu to try....opted for the Cajun Ahi tacos as they came highly recommended by staff as well as some veggies enchiladas. Food came out hot and some really nice options to boot from a salsa standpoint ( including a citrus habanero salsa)...would most definitely recommend if you're in the area... read more

My husband and I stopped here for lunch during our vacation. It's definitely a bit of a hole in the wall so don't expect much in terms of ambiance. However, the food was good. I had blackened fish tacos which were pretty good. My husband had blackened steak tacos. He enjoyed them but felt they were a little lacking on the filling. The only seating is outside, which is fine if it's not too hot. Unfortunately the day we went it was sunny and very warm, which made eating tacos outside less enjoyable. Decided to try this place based on the amazing yelp reviews. Wasn't too impressed. First of all, the wait to order was super long. The line was ok but they were very slow to take each order. The wait for the food was pretty long too, considering that it was just tacos and burritos. We barely made it to our next scheduled tour. The food itself was decent. The cajun tuna was nicely seared and the texture of the veggies was a nice complement. The fish taco was lacking in spices overall though. The cajun shrimps tacos was a bit more flavorful and the shrimps super tender. I didn't like the chips that came with the tacos; they were too deeply fried. The price was very high for the quantity, but I guess everything is more expensive in Kauai. The service was decent and there's a nice souvenir shop attached.
