I have been craving a Gyro as I haven't had one for years. I googled this place and had good reviews. I ordered a shrimp gyro and Greek fries. Let's just say it was so delicious and fresh. My gyro was perfect along with adding the side of Greek sauce. The fries were cooked perfectly! They had a nice crisp to them. I don't eat fries often so this was a treat. However, they must have forgot to add the oregano and feta cheese. That was a little disappointing, but hopefully when I go back I'll get all the full toppings on my fries. read more

This review is largely based off their customer service. I placed a pickup order for their weekend lamb chop special with greek fries. I arrived to an empty restaurant that had one table which had just finished eating. There was a single waiter on staff as well as an older man and woman in the open kitchen. Following the sign's instructions I walked to the counter to pick-up my order. The older woman and man were in the kitchen preparing a single dish together. Not one of them had a mask on despite the recent rise of Omicron in Chicago, or the city ordinance in place regarding masks. I stood at the counter for a full three minutes, in plain view of both of them, nor more than 3 feet away, and not one of them acknowledged my presence. Initially I thought they were waiting to finish their meal prep, however after the woman was done assisting the man she began slicing tomatoes. I finally got tired of being blatantly ignored and approached the waiter on the floor, who was aimlessly adjusting empty tables, and requested my order. The woman in the kitchen only looked up after the waiter entered the kitchen to grab my food, and she appeared very intentional about not looking my direction. There was no acknowledgement, no apology, no recognition that I had been standing in view of all of them and had not been offered assistance. Do they generally have poor customer service? Maybe. But I was told by a white man that this place was amazing and the female owner was incredibly friendly; I walked in as a black woman and had the complete opposite experience. Is this a race issue? Maybe... maybe not. But whatever the issue, my money is the same shade of green as everybody else's and their lamb chops weren't good enough to subject myself to feeling invisible at this establishment ever again in the future. read more

One of my favorite restaurants in Andersonville. The food is good and fresh, the owner Vickie is nice and remember every customers that comes in. My 2 favorite items are: the Greek Burger and Pork Tenderloin Sandwiches. Both comes with fries. It's on my list of restaurants if I don't want to cook at home. read more

Everything in the restaurant is pretty much a la carte. The portions are very small, the pros are is cook to order. I tried their chicken kalamaki, rice pilaf, tzatziki sauce, and pita bread. The chicken kalamaki was seasoned ok, it was well cooked. My only complain is that it did not come with anything else, not even tzatziki sauce, which I had to order separate. The rice pilaf was ok, nothing special. We also tried the beef and lamb wrap, which was not cooked all the way, even when we stated well done. Over all the place is clean, and presentable. I had a great experience at It's Greek 2 U, which I had passed by so many times and wanted to try. It's always exciting having new places come to Andersonville! The staff is friendly, genuine, and welcoming. You go up to the counter to order and the food is brought to you. We got the Kolo-Kytho-Keftedes (shredded zucchini and parmesan cheese patties), Greek Style Patates, and the Greek Vegetarian Sandwich. Everything was excellent and the portion sizes were perfect for the price! The atmosphere was clean and quaint. We sat by the window which is great for people watching. It's Greek 2 U? More like How Bad is it 2 U? I ordered for delivery. The "Chicken Yeero" arrived cold,dry, and overcooked. The chicken in the "yeeroo" had some really hard and tough pieces in it. I don't think they use the best chicken parts. The sandwich had little flavor. The pita and amount of ingredients was like MiniMe size! Their rice is watery and tasteless. The food has little to no flavor. Also, the portion sizes are so small and the quality so bad, it is insulting. These are like bad tasting overpriced kid sized portions here. Oh my god what can I say. My partner and I know Vicky from the previous incarnation of her restaurant, Mythos, Which was fine dining and a wonderful neighborhood gem. So nice to see her in Andersonville on Clark Street in a more casual atmosphere. Not only is the food wonderful but the place is amazingly clean. Exceptionally clean ( the bathrooms sparkle!). The first day that I met her years ago she invited my Greek husband and me into the kitchen to see where the magic happens and all I can say is how impressed I was by the cleanliness. And of course the wonderful Greek food cooked to order. In the current incarnation the kitchen is wide open for all to see. The gyros is homemade, not store-bought from Kronos like so many others, and well worth a few extra dollars. The pork belly is out of this world and the chicken amazingly tender. The food is first rate, homemade, and you can meet the chef. Ask for her by name. Vickie is the real deal, as Greek as they come and as sweet as they come with a little dash of pepper! read more

I'm literally the one and only customer here, but the OWNER made a very big deal about me wanting to sit at a table with a booth because I'd be 1 person taking up a table for 4 people. There were 12 empty tables, 6 of which were tables for 4. Even if I loved it, I won't be coming again. Super super rude. Disappointed that I'd be treated like that anywhere, let alone Andersonville... Perhaps I should've walked out the door when the owner ignored me (the only customer in the restaurant) standing at the counter, while she talked with a friend about her haircut. Yes, I probably should have. Per her recommendation, I tried the pork belly gyro. She told me after eating it, I'd never get an American gyro again. Wrong. If what you want is a gyro, don't come here. Sure, the sandwich was fine, but nothing I'd ever need to eat again. And it had no where near the level flavor that I like in regular gyros. Tzatziki sauce was bland. Fries were processed, not fresh cut. Eh. AND $16 for a gyro and fries, definitely over priced - at a place where I had to order at the counter and argue about where I wanted to sit. Walked into this modest dining room during the Sunday lunch hour looking for something fast, but also hearty. The woman at the counter had the commanding air of a proprietress, warmly welcoming while also directing the cooks behind us. Greek ballads played on the sound system while the winter sun shone in through the glass front of the restaurant, and artwork depicting Greece hung from the walls. We got the mixed grill platter for two and Greek sodas (blood orange and sour cherry). Boss lady warned us that some of the meats would take a little longer because they were grilling up a fresh batch of kabobs. The wait was worth it - we got a big rectangular platter lined with two soft pita rounds covered in mounds of well-seasoned chicken and pork savings from the rotating spits, slightly salty crust and well-done meat, a small handful of loosely packed herbed beef kabobs, and new-to-us Greek sausage in snappy casing, house-made with orange peel and anise for a wonderful flavor. The mixed grill also came with a choice of carb, we went with white rice over roasted potatoes, and grilled vegetables, mostly caramelized green beans, probably frozen mix, but fine nonetheless. Horrendous experience. I politely asked our server to split our check, and out of nowhere, the owner burst from the kitchen, rudely shouting, "No, no, it's not possible! I'm going to pay three percent on the credit card. It's one check, you don't tell me what to do!" Her attitude was shockingly disrespectful. Gotta call foul on this place tonight, sorry (sincerely). Popped in to put in a takeout order, just one item, and the manager/owner at the till said it would be 15 minutes. I said fine, as I had to go to Walgreens across the street. Came back after 10 min and acknowledged I was back a bit early. Then the order taker told me she had neglected to put in my order with the kitchen. OK, these things happen, right? She said 10 minutes. It was 25 more minutes. Giving kids candies and handing out other to-go orders, and no real apology or consideration, even when my order got handed off by her while she was talking to another customer. This place is way awesome. Went there all the time before the pandemic for the lamb kabob, but now I'm love with a newer item...pork belly. OMG...so good. I always grab the saganaki. They don't serve if flaming, but its the best saganaki I've ever tasted, especially with the lemon on top. I don't usually notice or care about ambiance or decorations, but this one grabs my attention. I feel like I'm in Santorini (or some other Greek island...who knows? Never been there!) Also, the woman who owns the restaurant always come by and says hello to our table. She's such a fun person. I asked her about the tomatoes and she said she grows them herself special for the restaurant. The tomatoes are noteworthy, because neither my partner and I like tomatoes, especially cold and raw, but for some reason, these are very flavorful and not slimy at all. This had to be the worst experience I've ever had in a so-called Greek restaurant. A Gyros with 2 thin, small Tomato slices and one piece of onion, no other vegetables, not much meat and even that was not moist, with no sauce of any kind (Tzatziki?) on it or offered. Hardly warm. This is a small sitdown place (just takeout now with the virus pandemic) that I tried for the first time. It will be my last. There are too many good walk-in places in Chicago as well as in this specific Andersonville neighborhood of the city for Gyros, Hot Dogs, and the like (short order). I also ordered some Greek Fries. They were greasy and cold. I called ahead for a time to pick up and was told 30 minutes. I was there on time with one other customer waiting to pick up his ultimately small order. They hadn't started my order yet. I could have just walked in and ordered and waited the same amount of time it took them to prepare mine after my telephone order. There were three people working. These were middle aged to older people working, but that's no excuse. It was the end of their working day and it seemed as if I was chosen to get the dregs of what was left. To be frank I find that a lack of respect for an honest customer who even said this was my first time there as a test. To cap it off their observance of basic virus protections was nil. No gloves. One person with a mask who wore it maybe 20% of the time. Constant non-observance of the 6 ft. personal space proscription. All in all a terrible experience in a place I was hoping to like. Welcome to the neighborhood! This place freshened up a well loved, but dated Japanese restaurant. And with the sad demise of Hella's, I was looking for a new Gyros place to love. THIS IS IT. Pork belly Gyros and Chicken Gyros. The Pork Belly is what we had - YUM, with tzatziki (there could have been a little more tzatziki sauce, but I will just ask for more next time). Really tasty. A bit greasy, but DUH - it's pork belly, it's gonna be a little greasy. I am excited to try the chicken gyros and will definitely be back for that. The fries - PERFECT. Crispy outside, tender inside. It's nice to have a Greek restaurant back in the neighborhood that isn't strictly a gyro spot you find so prevalent throughout Chicago. You place your order at the counter and then they bring your food out. Service was friendly and the food came out very quickly. We ordered a horiatiki salata, saganaki, chicken gyros, chicken breast sandwich and a baklava. Horiatiki was very good, nice little addition of balsamic gives it a touch of necessary sweetness to counter the feta. Chicken gyros was massive and stuffed to the brim with meat, crispy fries and deliciously garlicky tzatziki. Chicken breast sandwich was juicy and covered with a savory cheese that was delicious. Saganaki was about 4x4" with a few small pita triangles, it was the perfect size, my only critique would be that it could have been a bit more well done and crispy but it was delicious nonetheless. Baklava was very fresh, flaky and sprinkled in powdered sugar. It's tasted homemade but be aware it's a pretty big piece. Prices were very reasonable, food was tasty, service was fast and friendly. I definitely recommend you stopping in for a bite. We'll be back for sure. Spoke to the girl at the front and she said they should be on grubhub any day now. read more

The pros: location (love Andersonville), it's very clean, the service was great, the food was prepared quickly and was fresh, and the menu seems authentically Greek. The cons: For what we got--2 not very large salads with moderate portions of gyro meat on them, tzatziki, and the zucchini fritters--we paid $46. That's pretty steep for the portion size and for a place that makes you order at the counter. I kind of feel like they are waffling between a restaurant with table service and a fast casual place. Also, thought the food was good, it could have been seasoned more aggressively. We didn't really love the zucchini fritters, either, as they tasted raw and dough-y inside. I want this little family spot to survive, as that block on Clark has a lot of vacancies, but I'm not sure we will go regularly, even though it is quite close. read more

This place was recommended to us by a friend and the first time we dined here we were happy with our experience. The service was great, portions were generous and the food was delicious. We were really excited to have found a new favorite spot in the neighborhood. We returned 6 days later and our experience couldn't have been more different. This time we were the *only two people in the restaurant*, yet our food took forever to come out, and when it finally did it was missing two of the dishes we had ordered...we patiently waited and then had to go to the counter to ask about them. The owner, who I think is also the cook, was chatting on the phone the entire time to what sounded like a friend, and we felt our presence was kind of cramping her social life. Eventually ONE of the missing dishes came out, but the second one never did. Also, the portions this time around were tiny, not even half the size we were served just 6 days before. We were eating on the earlier side this time (around 5pm) and wondered if this was what lunch portions looked like, however we were charged the same amount for each dish that we were in our first visit. This restaurant serves the traditional Greek gyro you find in Greece and it's fantastic! Make sure you ask to add fries into the gyro. They are fresh and perfectly crispy! As someone who is born in Greece and knows Greek food, it is rare we go out to a restaurant for Greek food since most of the time it is Americanized. This restaurant serves authentic flavors with high quality ingredients. We had the saganaki which was fantastic. The pork gyro was real pork-- not the cone mix you see at most restaurants. She also cooks the pita bread correctly instead of slathering it with oil and putting it on the flat top, making the gyro heavy. After recently going on a trip to Greece, we've had a hankering for some good authentic Greek food and Greek Town just doesn't cut it. Vicki (owner) is so welcoming... I knew by just walking in that we had finally found what we had been looking for. The pork belly is perfect and the tomatoes are dark red and juicy. They have a few vegetarian options as well (Greek sandwich); and the Village salad was delicious. Overall: excellent food and fabulous service in a great casual spot in Andersonville. This review is not about the food, it's about the abysmal customer service. The food is tasty albeit over-priced, but I was willing to pay because it is made to order and tastes so good. That is probably why I kept going back despite the rude and condescending treatment that I routinely got from Vickie, the owner. At first you might think she's just being edgy, because occasionally she was friendly, but after awhile, everyone has their limit as to how much guff one will take, especially when that one is a cash paying customer! I started going there in 2021, but I wasn't just going there by myself or with one other person, I was bringing groups of 6 to 10 people, if not every other week, at least monthly. Vickie actually had the nerve to say one time when I walked in with a group, "Oh my God! Look at all these people!!" Yeah, we're your customers, right?! Even though we usually had long wait times for the food, It was made to order, and I told myself it was worth the wait. But In the last time I went there with a group, I was made to wait over 40 minutes for my order while everyone else was served and ate. And while I was waiting, I noticed Vicki was nowhere near the kitchen helping to get orders out. She was chatting with other customers, and then sitting at a table doing paperwork. (What the *&$# lady?!). When I questioned her about where my food was, she started yelling at me that I should know it takes time, and blah, blah, blah. This was the treatment that I received despite always paying (and tipping 20%) in cash, even though I ordered at the counter! (No good deed goes unpunished!!). One of my friends in the group who witnessed her rude behavior towards me on that day, asked me why I keep going back, as he had many times also experienced her unprofessional behavior too. That was 6 months ago and I have not been back since. In closing, I noticed from reading the other 1- and 2-star reviews here, that a lot of other people experienced her rudeness and poor customer service as well.
