The Itty Bitty Inn is not just another motel. It's an experience -- and a terrific one at that. Yes, it's a bit quirky, but moreover it's charming, comfortable, clean, and about as much fun as a motel can be within the bounds of the law. Innkeeper Rik embodies the personality of the Itty Bitty Inn. He is genuinely warm, welcoming, friendly and truly concerned about the comfort and welfare of his guests. He phoned us as we were on US 101 headed toward North Bend, to see if we needed directions and to offer restaurant suggestions in case we wanted to eat dinner there in the Coos Bay area before checking in. We chose to head to the motel first, and Rik was there when we arrived. He carried our luggage into our room, the Oregon Trail Room, which is decorated with appropriate John Wayne and Allan Lane (as Red Ryder) posters. When Rik made dinner suggestions, we chose a place -- which Rik phoned to make sure there would be seating for us when we arrived. His breakfast suggestion was also great -- Mom's Kitchen, a block away (see my separate review about that). The Itty Bitty Inn (so named because it consists of only 5 rooms) is a motel built in 1950, and makes no pretensions to be anything but that. I was driving down from Portland Oregon and feeling tired from 8 hr drive. It was around 6 pm and was worried all hotels would be booked. At least the clean ones. So I yelped for local spots and this one came up. After looking at reviews and calling I was amazed that there was one room left. The disco 70's room. Lol. Apparently I didn't notice that they are themed rooms. Well as you would have it there was a disco ball and appropriate decor. The manager on shift was totally cool as in groovy cool lol. James Dean reborn. I would Recommend this spot especially if you want to impress your partner with a very unique and romantic flashback. Yes my room had an original functional Atari game console. I am still trembling in shock and disbelief about what I just experienced. The place is adorable and I was just gazing about the room, admiring the well thought out old 70's styling that the room was decorated in, when there was a loud heavy hammering of a knock on the door. I had just sat my bags down. As a woman traveling alone any knock on the door puts me on alert. Usually at a big chain hotel I'd have thrown the top pivoting bar lock over the door, then ask through the door, "Who is it?" Then depending on who the knocker was I'd peep the door open to have a conversation. This room didn't have a pivoting bar so I just leaned towards the crack of the door and loudly asked, "Who is it?" There was no answer. They knocked again. I asked again who is it? (Keep in mind, I had JUST rented this room. And during check in the woman with red hair had to put me in my place when I thought since we had completed the visa transaction and I had the receipt and she was telling me the room number and I saw a bunch of Tiffany blue key tags hanging on some sort of jewelry tree ON MY SIDE OF THE COUNTER I thought perhaps she has customers get and / or leave the room keys there. So with out touching those keys or pointing at them or even looking at them, I asked her if I had got the key yet? And that was what rubbed her wrong. She said, "No! I'm not going to give you a key until I finish telling you the rules." I simply obliged her by politely saying, " Oh. Ok." and I just stood and listened as instructed to. She then told me about beer bottles and/or beer cups that will be in the room for guests at this motel to take across the street to a grocery store that she said had some large number of specialty beers and if I enjoyed it that I could purchase said cups or bottles or whatever. I replied with, "Oh I don't drink beer." She then went on to sing the praises of some company at the store that has a Rootbeer I could have poured into the devices. (I never did have the chance to see what she was talking about.) Then while she still has the key as she opens the office front door and walks outside with me to show me where room number 3 is she tells me that I am now to go get my luggage from my car which is parked right in front of #3 and that she will be going into the room to check it over to make sure the maid did her job. (That was peculiar.) Why would you wait until after dark, after dinner time, when the customer is about to walk into the room to check the maid's work? So she had me then stand outside in the rain while she went in and walked and paced throughout the room. She also took this opportunity to tell me and show me where and how I was to remove my shoes no further than the door. I had no problem as that is how it is at home for me as well. But in a room I just rented, hearing and seeing this was a first. But I understood. While I was being instructed, still at the doorway to the room I'd rented but still not been allowed to enter, another vehicle had pulled up to her motel and parked in the parking slot next to my car. She then hustled up and finished her inspection and handed me the key. I thanked her and continued to unpack my luggage into the room. While I did so, I heard and noticed she had scurried up to that new customer's vehicle' window and was asking them if they, "Are you going to check in?" I heard her ask that question two or maybe three times. I never heard any reply from the people she was asking. I never actually looked that direction because I was embarrassed for her due to her behavior and basically I was trying to mind my own business. (I could only imagine how I'd felt if I pulled up to a motel and the manager is running up to my vehicle to ask me if I'm checking in.) I think it sounded weird. Anyway after I had my luggage into the room I felt a little creeped out by the strange scene that this woman had went through with me and how knows what she's doing out in the parking lot now. As I shut the door I noticed the only windows in the room face right out to the middle of the parking lot where she and they were so I reached up and pulled the drapes closed. I took off my boots and left them next to the door and as I'd said, was looking around this cute little room when that knock happened. ) In my safety mode train of thought I imagined it must be either that woman or the people she was talking to? If it was her I would open the door. If it was anyone else I wasn't going to open. So after I'd asked her twice who it was she disclosed it was her. So I opened the door. She stood there with a spooky expression on her face and she asked me if I was with the people she had been talking to in the parking lot. I said, "No" Her spooky expression turned into something even worse. She then told me I was acting defensive. She then told me to leave and she would mail a refund. She then inspected the room again. I was and still am in shock. read more

I called in on a weekday to book a hotel for the same night and Rik (the owner & manager) and he hooked me up with a room at one of the cheapest prices around. He was one of the most upbeat people I've spoken with and he was just a joy to talk to. We arrived and he called a couple local spots to see for specials & events going on today and offered to drive us to these places or loan us a free bike. He even has Atari rentals for $10 a night, has growlers in the room in case you want to bring some drinks back (if you choose to keep this custom growler, it's $7), and all kinda of other cheap souvenirs. He has fresh, good quality coffee (beans) from a local coffee company and will ground them for you as well. Each of the 5 rooms are themed with various retro themes and feel extremely nostalgic down to the smallest details while equally inviting at the same time. The exterior is also very clean and homey, yet modern, having Tesla charging stations for those who have electric vehicles. To top it off, the owner is a fellow veteran and only brought it up because he noticed my unit hoodie. If you want anything at all, he knows the local stuff/spots for you! The Innkeeper, Ric, makes you feel like the king (or queen) of the castle. He really went out of his way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. We had the Tiki Room - small but clean. First off, the owner, Rick has got to be the nicest guy you'll ever meet. He has great passion for the Itty Bitty Motel that he has created. He goes out of his way to make your stay enjoyable and comfortable. i stayed 2 nights in the "That 70's Room". Upon check in, Rick shared the details of the property, told me a few simple rules, made sure to point out the motel is 420 Friendly, and even helped me with my luggage and showed me my room. I was blown away at my room! Everything in it was from the 70's! From the Bee-Gee's Night Fever playing on the flatscreen, (I know, not a 70's item) to the beaded entryway, and don't forget the actual mirror ball and psychedelic lights. Rick has created a masterpiece with this room. I can only imagine what the other rooms must be like. Everything in the room was super clean and everything was functional and operational. The bed was super comfortable, the wall heater very powerful and effective. Water pressure was fine and lots of hot water. This was such a welcome break from the typical 'chain' type hotels. If you're looking for a very cool, very different place to stay, make it a point to book a room at the Itty Bitty Inn. You won't regret it!! read more

My wife and I stayed here last night. We arrived to a big hug and high five from Rik the owner. He was so happy and excited that we were staying at his Home. Everything had a personal touch such as type of Coffee we liked to the locally made soap. The rooms are small but decorated with care and very clean. It was a better bed than your typical chain motel. Rik also gave us some great ideas on the local dinner scene and was spot on. This would not have been our first choice had we just been driving by but now that we found this hidden gem it will be our only resting place in the Coos Bay/ North Bend area. This place deserves 100 stars on Yelp. Please folks believe the hype. The place is comfy, super clean, great location but let me tell you the thing that puts it over the top. Two things stood out for me. The hospitality from Donna and Rik was one of those. The other one was the Atari hook up that you can rent, yes I said Atari. Ok well first the hospitality just out of this world. Reminded me of the true human humility and kindness of people; it's still out there and we got to experience it with Donna n Rik. From a warm welcome n big smiles after a 9hr drive in the rain to recommendations of places to eat that matched what we were looking for. This did not feel like staying at an Inn rather it felt like staying with family. Actually from the day that I called to make the reservation about 5 days prior to our stay and spoke to both Rik n Donna, their peace they projected from that conversation was reenergizing. You just have to experience it. They both made our stay in Coos Bay just a true delight. Oh yeah, get that Atari, totally worth it. I know I got stuck playing it. You are greeted as family, and the hospitality is simply unmatched in my personal experience. My visit to Coos Bay was coming off of a weekend stay at the Radisson Red hotel in Portland, which was extravagant in many ways, but doesn't hold a candle to experiencing the Itty Bitty Inn. My first night/check-in, I made the mistake of not looking up the hours for the lobby! I had just closed my store at 10pm, and arrived an hour later than the posted lobby hours for my initial check-in. Despite my lack of awareness of the lobby's business hours, Rik answered my knock and greeted me with the smile and positive attitude he is well known for. I was graciously offered a glass of beer on tap and some delicious organic oatmeal to start my stay. Each room is decorated to such detail that it is really like stepping into a time machine here. John Wayne posters lined the walls of my room, and I even had a rotary phone!! The Inn seems very well established and integrated with the local culture! Amenities included fresh ground coffee, locally made soaps, free growler rental, organic oatmeal, and the best hugs!! Rik's positive attitude and great hospitality is infectious! I left here inspired to be a "Rik" in my own community. I could NEVER forget my stay here thanks to Rik, and I look forward to many vacations here in the future. The North Bend area wasn't really on my radar before this most recent work trip. Rest assured, I will be making time to come back just to visit with Rik and get a breath of fresh air at the Itty Bitty Inn. read more

I had fresh ground coffee beans delivered to my door:-) There are several cool decors in the rooms - I enjoyed the Tiki ChaCha room which was fun and bright, and had everything I needed. We stayed at the Itty Bitty Inn in the fall of 2019 - what a wonderful small motel. Rik, the innkeeper, was a wonderful host. He had visited with all local restaurants to check the nightly specials and also suggested what was really good food and where we could find it. He also let us know where there were things to do in the North Bend area while we tasted a free local brew on tap in the Itty Bitty office. This is the cutest place with the friendliest hosts, Rik and Donna! They ARE the Itty Bitty Inn! Their love and devotion to this little gem is obvious from all the 60's kitsch finds, to the gourmet tea and coffee in your room. They've done a good job restoring and bringing life back to this little road side motel. We loved our stay, complete with growlers provided for enjoying the amazing selection of local brews at the very funky market across the street. We tasted the brews while visiting Horseshoe Falls Beach for a sunset experience before we went to the most amazing sushi restaurant ever, Tokyo Bistro, both recommended by Rik of course. Where to begin. This was one of those rare finds that CRUSHES the chains. I mean really. Why do we need more free soap? Let's talk coffee, hospitality, clean room, safe neighborhood, and a greeting by the man himself - Rick. We were welcomed like royalty and the room was adorbs. There was new vinyl, clean sheets and a location that was near everything within 5 minutes. The reservation, and checkout was nothing. This 5-room roadside inn is the best!!! I travel to the area for work and I can't imagine why I'd ever want to stay anywhere else! 100% good vibes. Rik and Donna are incredibly friendly and hospitable. After my first visit they treated me like family! The rooms are clean, cozy, and retro-quirky. You can borrow a growler or rent an Atari 2600 or record player. Lots of attention to detail. Rik personally grinds the coffee, which is locally roasted. The beds are very comfortable (soft, not hard mattresses). Yes you can hear traffic on the highway, and yes the walls are a little thin, but Rik and Donna do everything possible to make sure you're comfortable and things quiet down overnight. They are so thoughtful and sweet. They care about their community, the environment, and each guest that comes though their door. It's truly a gem of a place. read more

There aren't very many Inn Keepers anymore. I've grown so tired of the big box hotels. They don't care and they don't have to. This place brought back my faith in commerce. These folks actually care about their place and you. We stayed in the Oregon Trail room. We are older, this place may seem like it is only for the younger crowd but we loved it. The bed was so comfortable my husband and I slept very well. The place is very clean and well kept and just comfortable. They provide a small frig, an actual coffee maker and mugs, a microwave and a electric hot water kettle for the tea and hot cocoa they provide. There are extra blankets and pillow and I felt I could ask for assistants with anything. Also, they are more than willing to find good food and drink for you. Didn't try the beer as we don't drink. My only complaint is it is close to a busy road but honestly all the other positive things more than made up for it. Absolutely love this place. read more
