While we love Ivar's, we went today right after they opened and it was pretty obvious no cleaning had been done the night before. The condiment bar was gross and we had to get napkins and hand sanitizer to clean our table which hadn't been cleaned of food from I guess the night before. Today is Tuesday, 7:15 pm, my boyfriend and I walked in to place an order to go. Absolutely TERRIBLE customer service from the redhead kid at the front. We walked in and was not greeted or acknowledged whatsoever, he continued to bag whatever he was already bagging and finally when he was done, still no greeting. The other guy who was there in the kitchen area was the one that greeted us even with a brief smile. Anyway, I started to order and asked for an order of "a bread bowl clam chowder to go." Rudely, the kid responds "clearly we can only do to go." Then he asks me which clam chowder. I respond, just the regular one. He then answers back "regular can be any of these." No help, no customer service attitude WHATSOEVER. My boyfriend is now not happy and neither am I. My boyfriend orders next and then also says "to go." This kid has the nerve to say "duh." I wish I was making this up, but no. It is heated at this point and the kid even says to us how WE came in being rude. We are baffled!!!! At this point it is very hostile, thankfully and finally another guy (name is RODNEY) steps in tells the kid (ROBERT) to step back. This is crazy! Rodney was wonderful dealing with us and was very apologetic for what had happened. He is great and was very professional with us. We expressed how we do not want the kid Robert touching any of our food. He reassures us and we wait in our car. He comes out and was again very apologetic and went the extra mile to void our payment. There needs to be more Rodneys and NOT people who work like Robert. Unbelievable! Do not order online - Ivars will nnot receive it! I am writing to you to inform you of my experience just now at the Kirkland, Lake WA Ivars. I ordered an online pickup. I got to Ivars and they said they never received my online order. I said, here is the text to prove I ordered online. Ivars confirmed and then asked if I had received an email, which I said yes, and they read that too. He even confirmed "I even see where they charged your visa." He tried explaining to me that this is all done by a third party (doordash?) which I said I don't know anything about that. I ordered at home on my computer for me to pickup all done at Ivars Kirkland, then received a text and email confirmation with the time to pickup. We argued back and forth, where I explained this is no fault of mine! After we were done arguing back and forth he finally said we'll I can give you your order free - which, by then, had lost my appetite and stated that I would never go to Ivars again! They kept putting all the blame on me and I was to fix it! And I didn't want a free order - I simply wanted the order I paid for with no hassles! Was surprised that Ivar's replaced Kidd Valley, but also excited that it is in a close-by location now! Food is good quality, fries are priced affordable (very thick and always fresh), cleanliness (bathrooms too.. as a germ freak I was shook and very impressed!), outstanding and friendly customer service (biggest reason why it's 5 stars), it's also in a nice location with easy parking. Ordered calamari once and there appeared to be only a very few amount of pieces. But aside from that, everything else is great! read more

I live right around the corner so my curiosity brought me to Ivar's. I want to preface this by saying I have never been to any other Ivar's (I'm new to the area). With that said, I thought the food was actually good, for fast food! My partner and I both ordered the 3-piece fish (cod) & chips. I ordered it as Cajun style. We both really like our food. I really liked the Cajun style because it added an extra kick to the fish. The batter was not too thick so you get more fish than batter. I thought the fries were very good - not too salty and had good texture. I also tried their red chowder. I didn't love it because it was a little too sweet for me (because of the tomato base). Having just tried the Pike Place chowder, it didn't quite compare. However, I think I need to try their other chowders. There is outdoor seating and it is located right across from the park. You have a great view of Lake Washington. The outdoor area is nicely decorated with lights and flowers. It's an extra nice touch that you wouldn't normally find at a fast food restaurant. The service was great. The employees were all super accommodating. The only thing that was a bit strange is that I was asked by the employee taking my order if I wanted to try their chowder. To me that meant giving us a sample of the chowder. I know a lot of new places sometimes do that kind of thing. However, it ended up that he meant for us to buy chowder because he asked us what size we wanted. Small thing and not a big deal. The purpose of this review is to give a "shout-out" to the General Manager at Ivar's Seafood Bar in Kirkland, l believe his name is Rodney (?) I've been here twice since the opening of this location. Rodney has helped me both times . COVID restrictions have added hurdles and challenges to the simple process of take-out food. Rodney has done a superb job in managing this store and keeping every detail on track! Today was no exception. My wife and I we're in our vehicle eating our meal and he walked out and offered outdoor seating and water for our 2 small dogs. Now that's customer service...Kudos to Rodney! read more

Hard to find fault with this brand spanking new (Was Kidd Valley before) shiny, spiffy remodel. Service is unparalleled for a fast food restaurant and comparable to your fanciest bistro. Not new to Ivars, I've experienced the best and the worst locations, over the years and somehow this location, using I'm sure, the same recipes, manages to make the fish juicier, the crust to crunchy perfection and perfect fries. And it's reasonable. I got the three-piece Alaskan Pollock with fries...generous portions, $7.77. Others here, not so satisfied with the chowders. I agree. I've never had luck with their chowders, white or red, so I just pass on that. Friday dinner hour, this place is PACKED. The outside patio option is lovely. I get mine to-go and wander across the street to Houghton Beach Park to people watch. read more

Either they need to increase staff on sunny days to meet customer needs or they'll be losing business. We just had a terrible experience at Ivars in Kirkland. The issue was half an hour of wait for to go food. When I ordered a simple cod and chips with cole slaw order at the counter, the cashier did not mention that there was going to be a delay in getting the food or that they were short in staff. After ten minutes had passed, I inquired in a polite way and the shift manager Jennifer barked at me saying "don't you see we are doing the best we can". I complained about the tone and use of words, and there was no response. Then I look up to the kitchen and the only chef was talking to herself expressing out loud "if there was another cook here we would not be in this predicament". Fifteen more minutes passed and I noticed they were serving 5 orders ahead of my number which was 43. I asked again and the response was that they don't serve by order number but randomly, which sounds crazy and not the way most restaurants work, and they could not tell me how much longer my order was going to take. I could not wait any longer so I asked for a refund. They refunded my order without uttering any words or apology. Clearly all the workers in this store were working very hard, and their attitude was a result of their own frustration for not being able to deliver good customer service. In my opinion, the owners or managers should do a better job staffing their stores so their employees don't have to be overworked and frustrated. I do think the shift manager needs to take a step back and reassess her approach because even under stress that should never be the way she addresses clients. read more

I've grown up eating at various Ivars restaurants. Since I was a kid, my family and I would visit this place - most of the time in the Renton location. They just opened up in Kirkland near the water so you get great views of Lake Washington while you eat. Great food!! Always worth a visit for great fish and really good clam chowder! read more

I was told that Ivar's is a good seafood chain in the Seattle area and was excited to try it. Unfortunately I found their food to be average at best. While I ate the fish and chips I will say the fish was very tender but the batter used was similar to the batter you would get on a onion ring (not a good beer batter style) and the fried were at least salvaged by them carrying malt vinegar to add some flavor. I will give them credit that the clam chowder was decent. The best thing going for Ivar's is the location with a beautiful view of Lake Washington. read more

Great view of Washington lake and yummy fish and chips! The Caesar salad was also good, however, the white clam chowder had almost no clams and many potatoes. Interestingly, the coffee had a strong and nice chocolatey flavor. I tried the berry cheesecake and was ok, they offer caramel and key lime cheesecake as well. I will definitely return, just remember that the parking is a little bit small but I believe there might be free street parking nearby. read more
