Gotta love J Alexander's. It isn't cheap, but for a chain it is pretty reasonable. I particularly like this place for lunch. I have a the steakburger on a few occasions and it is really tasty. The thousand island dressing and the thinly cut fries really seal the deal for me. The food and the service is consistently good. If you DO come here for lunch prepare for cougartown and techcrunch mixed in one! You have a lot of visitors from the tech center that is a mile or two away and of course it is a great place for the 50-something ladies to visit after a long arduous day of shopping at Park Meadows Mall! I really do love this place, its been a while but from what I remember from early 2000's they had a great house salad and skinny fries, and croissants! Well I came back to order dinner. The hubby ordered steak and fries, (cooked perfectly medium) and I got the rotisserie chicken with mashed potatoes, and a side of the mac and cheese to share. Mmm the mashed potatoes were buttery and whipped. I only gave it three stars because the food was really good. I had the steak tacos, fire roasted artichokes and my wife had a cheeseburger and the chocolate cake and ice cream. I have eaten here 2 times now. The first time I was very pleased with my steak and loaded mashed potatoes and we were just in time for free Bloody Marys. The second time I ate there I was not as pleased with the way they cooked there medallions, but the soup of the day was cheese and broccoli and it was awesome! I've eaten here a couple times before for company lunches but that was years ago. Since then I've become somewhat picky about steak, especially at upscale restaurants, so I was a little hesitant about ordering their rib-eye. Our server talked it up so much though, I had to try it. I'm glad I did. I wasn't crazy about the preparation of the steak, I like mine with a heavier sear but the homemade Worcestershire sauce served alongside was sooo yummy. It totally made the steak. My fiance ordered the prime rib sandwich - he thought it was just OK, the bread was a little hard. We ate all his shoestring fries though. What can I say, the food was absolutely fantastic! I went there for my birthday having never been there before. The waiter was very nice and attentive. I ordered the macadamia nut crusted fish entree, which I wasn't a fan of as it was fried, so I switched with my husband who had ordered the Cilantro Lime grilled shrimp with cajun spices. WOW! I think this restaurant is relatively new and is located in the same lot as Rock Bottom, just off County Line. The inside is very dim (it was hard to see my food) but I like the atmosphere -- it's got an older crowd feel to it. I ordered the chicken milanese -- the taste and spices were there, but holy cow, this dish is not for the faint of heart when it comes to butter. I probably only ate a third of it because it I swear I could feel my heartbeat slowing down in my chest. The husband ordered the fish tacos... I have no idea what kind of fish it was but it was extremely "fishy" tasting. I had the only pasta dish on the menu and it was better than I expected it to be. The multiple peppers they used were all fresh which was a nice touch. This has always been our go to date night. Love their food and environment. However, the last few times we have been, the service has gone downhill. We had dinner there tonight, service was slow, waitress wasn't super pleasant, and our bill was messed up. In addition a couple of use didn't get our correct orders several times. First, let me just say the food was very good! However, our server was unhappy and cranky pants! We sat outside on a rather cold day. I'm guessing that made her mad to begin with because the table had to be pulled together and the heaters lit up. Prior to ordering I asked if they had soy paper instead of seaweed for my sushi roll. Does "No soup for you" ring a bell? Oh boy, here's my thought, if you are making the sushi to order, and you have a guest who doesn't eat seaweed, is it really an issue to change it to soy paper? "The chef won't usually do it because there are two other rolls to choose from that have soy paper". Does the chef own the restaurant? As a person who comes from the restaurant business, my server and the chef would get an earful if they pulled something like that on a customer. After a few minutes, we attempted to put up the outdoor umbrella up to block the water that was flying off of the roof from the wind, hitting us and our food. That apparently pissed her off as well, it was "against the rules" because the heaters are on... by the way, the heaters were a good 3-4 feet from the umbrellas AND the wind was going in a good direction for an concerns of fire. So we got sprayed by water throughout lunch, super enjoyable! Why didn't we just sit inside you ask? We had someone in our party with Covid concerns so this was the only way to get the out of town guests to see family. After that, she walked back into the restaurant and every person in our party, all of us looked at each other and said "wow, what a b****.". So that's why I'm writing the review, it wasn't just me who was thinking she was angry Annie! I would try this place again but would never want that server again! Good food, friendly if provoked, if not its like dining during a dimmly lite wake. Take a look....the staff wears all black, no one smiles, the food delivers just bring your food and leave. If you bother to try and engage a conversation its short. The food is good...if you don't mind the environment. Be sure to order the Orzo salad side. Its amazing. Prices are too high for what you get. If you are looking for a more upper end restaurant wih a great environment...head out to Shanahan's or Cool River. And key tip is as a female dining out often alone as my hubby and I travel a lot, I ate there alone just last night and it was perfect as ever, very comfortable, good service, great food and prompt. Overall solid restaurant if a little tough to find tucked in between the IKEA parking lot. Great smells from the kitchen and wood burning stove when you walk in. Had the sea bass and it was cooked perfectly with just the right amount but not overbearing sauce. Best cooked fish I've had in a while with delicious cole slaw as well. Been here more times than I can count I think. Great place for a lunch meeting or for a happy hour. It is all about the prime rib here although really everything I have tried here is good. They have a wood fired rotisserie which is what makes for the amazing prime rib. I've ordered the prime rib sandwich for lunch a ton of time and ditched the bread roll. This used to be my go to place for prime rib when I'm in Denver but they seem to have lost the ability to consistently prepare a delicious prime rib. Not sure if they are using lower quality meat or less attentive preparation but on my last several visits the prime rib was not tender, dry, and lacked flavor. On these last two visits I suspect they reheated a slice of meat from the night before and that just does not work. I'd prefer they just say they are out of fresh cuts than serve something sub par. The former approach keeps a customer the later loses one for good. read more

I was excited to try J. Alexander's Redlands after having a business associate schedule a lunch meeting there. I ordered the French Dip and it was sorely disappointing namely because it was too salty to eat. At first I thought this was the au jus, but even without it, the sandwich had the acrid taste of excessive salt. My associates both had the same salad and didn't say anything, so I'm willing to assume my meal was an anomaly. That said, with so many good restaurants in the area, not sure why I would risk it again. read more

J. Alexander's is a favorite after church spot that we frequent many Sundays. The food is outstanding! On our last visit I had a amazing Grilled Swordfish and my wife got the Ahi Tuna Salad and of course we each had a complementary Bloody Mary. They grill meats on an open hardwood grill and it gives them a fantastic flavor. The decor is classic contemporary American bistro with dark woods and low lighting. The atmosphere is classy yet casual. The staff is well trained and the service is very attentive and always friendly. Prices are moderately high, $17 entree salad & $20 seafood entree with one side item, but still a great value considering the quality food and service. Their appetizers and desserts are also wonderful, but we try to avoid the temptation. Remember your first Bloody Mary or Mimosa is only free on Sunday. read more
