I got the rotisserie chicken and my girlfriend ate the ribs. My food tasted great but I think my portion was a little small. Food was fresh and tasty good, my mashed potatoes were great. My girlfriend's food on the other hand was a little overcooked. It visually look great but the sauce covered up the overcooked portions. My drinks were refilled all the time. The waitress was great. We both said that we will come back. It was not worth the hour wait but it was close. read more

I ordered the ahi tuna steak medium rare with mashed potatoes. It came out and I cut into it and it was rare. I called the waiter over and he apologized and agreed this was not at all medium rare . He took it back and out came the second try. Overcooked this time .Such a disappointment. This has always been my favorite place to go. I know this can be a hard fish to cook but it's the second J. Alexander's restaurant in a week it has happened to me ordering this dish. The week before the J. Alexander's on West End . Same problem. But, they did get it right the second try. read more

We had a very large group for New Year Eve and made reservations, we got seated without hesitation and dinner was absolutely awesome. The servers were attentive and had recommendations. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE, just had a serious medical diagnosis and went to lunch with friends for support. I had 3 sangria's, other people had between 2 to 3 drinks each , appetizers, entrees, dessert, afterwards half our group needed to leave so we gave up the table for our servers (they kept sending different people each time). Noticed in bathroom two toilets over flowed with toilet paper and what appeared to be sewage and strong dirty pond odor, they had a mop, floors were wet and no signs just a mop and bucket in center of the room. We went to the bar and mentioned strong odor (they said it was a faucet leak). Then met a wonderful local elderly couple at the bar enjoying their meal and complimenting the man for his service ( I served as well) you can never thank a vet enough. Proceeded to order two drinks a sangria and my friend was offered a drink the bartender recommend. We waited for over 45min and noticed everyone around us had meals and drinks? I asked to please speak with manager to the hostess. I waited a young inexperienced guy shows up with the bartender stated "no more alcohol" However, were weren't too inebriated to pay a large party bill with a credit card. Apparently, when I mentioned to the bartender the issue with the restroom prior to my order it offended her. Upon being "escorted out" (not the fun good type of escort)as if I were a low life criminal! I tried to ask the manager why he or know one addressed us after 45 min? The hostess was standing there and I asked if she notified the manager? She stated yes ma'am, twice and he told this very sweet young Asian lady " be quiet!, Don't answer her" very rudely, I felt bad for her as well as embarrassed by other patrons looking at this situation. I did not want to disrupt anyone in the facility or seem unlady like. I could not believe the money I've spent at this location and West End ( much better place). I left even more upset prior to walking in for a nice lunch and to be given moral support from friends. It was horrible the manager lied, and was a immature idiot and had no customer service skills in the least. His name is Duty ...which is extremely appropriate. The female bartender was unbelievable to offer a special drink then decide not to service us, all while we were engaging quietly with an 80yr old native Nashville couple, who kept asking what the problem was why we didn't have our drink order? Eventually , someone will slip and fall in the sewage or slap the Duty guy assistant manager in his ugly horse face. I will never return to this location and I will never recommend this unprofessional establishment! Things could and should have been handled in a much better way and the way he spoke to the hostess who had a look of fear was really unprofessional. I feel sorry for the staff that works under this little man, who all he will ever be is a servant for a place in which once I considered a good establishment to dine. Go to West End, their much better and quality of food is much better. Duty and the female bartender with above shoulder length dark brown hair (bob cut) need to go, be fired or taught proper etiquette. I took my elderly father out to dinner at J Alexander's on White Bridge Rd. My father wears casual clothes and is over weight. Our server, Caila, treated us like we were an inconvenience. The manager helped clear our table while we were still eating. I was so sad that my father was discriminated against. Even though the food was good, the drinks were empty and the environment was not welcoming. My husband usually takes clients here for dinner,but we will never spend money with this company again. If I could leave a zero I would. Just saw a cockroach zoom across where we were sitting, was offered a new table. Hell no!! We left, how disgusting and disappointed we were. We will NEVER be back again. Below sub par with a manager that only had excuses. Was one of our favorite places to eat. The manager told us they got a 100 on their health department score and my husband told her to look on the floor after I thought I squished it with my fork, even heard it crunch....yet it lived on to scurry under the booth. Health department score has nothing to do with extermination. We all know roaches love the dark. They were fabulous - fast, efficient and the food was prepared perfectly. The grilled salmon is delicious especially with the accompanying sauce. YUM. I have no hesitations in giving this restaurant 5 stars! My friends and I had a wonderful experience here. I called all over Nashville trying to make reservations for a girls night out. There were 12 of us so no one would take us including the West End location. However, on calling the White Bridge Road location, the manager said he would take complete care of us. We walked in and they immediately sat us down to a wonderfully placed group of tables. Our server welcomed us and told us the specials. Wow was all I can say to that. The woman had it down! She went through this speech like she'd been saying it all her life. I was impressed to say the least. The service was excellence at it's best. Glasses were never empty and we were never in need of anything. The only mishap we had was at the end of our dinner. A few of the ladies were finished eating but were planning on taking home their dinner. They went to the rest room and our server's assistant took their plates without asking if they wanted a to go box. Immediately our server apologized and cooked 2 new complete dinners for them to take home! Tell me that's not great service! We had carrot cake that was to die for and an ice cream cake they make there. It was HUGE and delicious. I would highly recommend J. Totally have loved J Alexander's White Bridge Road location like none other- until recently. The bar staff has turned around and you don't get good service unless Preston, Jessica, or Tory are behind the bar. Case - in - point... was there tonight and an empty wine glass sat infront of TWO bartenders...both looked at the empty wine glass and said nothing. It wasn't until we laid our credit card down because we though waiting 20+ minutes to be asked if we wanted another wine glass was excessive.... When I asked the female bartender what was it about the credit card vs. the empty wine glass that made her want to take action, she copped an attitude and I was done. J Alexanders, the regulars are begging you to bring back customer service behind the bar. read more

I made a reservation for my girlfriend and I to have dinner at 6:30. We come here often, and are usually pleased, but tonight we left unsatisfied. We started with our favorite appetizer, spinach con queso($13), and it was delicious as always. Our entree was where everything went downhill. I ordered the Maui steak cooked medium rare with a loaded baked potato. ($36) my girlfriend ordered the Filet cooked medium with a loaded baked potato and fries ($36). When the food arrived, my steak was cooked more on the medium side and my girlfriends came out medium rare. Her plate also had two sides she didn't order (peppers and mashed potatoes) and there was a large extra side of fries? My girlfriend explained to the manager who dropped off the food that her two sides were supposed to be a loaded baked potato and fries, and he was rather rude about it. At the end of the meal, there was still an extra side charge of the french fries. Confused on the disconnect here. Although, the service was great by our waiter, Carlton. Last night, 12/27/20, my family went to dinner here for my dads 60th birthday. Three of us do not eat meat and one has a dairy allergy, so we called ahead to make sure we would be able to get veggie burgers that were on the menu. My dad ordered the prime rib and the three of us ordered the veggie burger with NO cheese. My mom asked if the burger comes with mayo, and the server told us no. She did not write anything down, but seemed confident about our order. We also all got drinks, I ordered the Lemon Drop Mojito, my mom ordered the Red-Headed Rita, my dad ordered an old fashioned and my boyfriend ordered a beer. When the drinks came out, my mom received a green-ish drink in a glass with basil, we were thinking she received the "thai margarita" (which was great, by the way.) I received a glass that was pink/red in color that looked nothing like a lemon drop. We were thinking that I received my moms drink and she received something completely different. We just let it go and enjoyed the drinks we received. When our food came out, all the veggie burgers had a thick slice of cheese melted on top. It wasn't our server who brought out the food, but she was right behind watching. We said "oh, we said no cheese! sorry!" but then realized we could take it off no problem and said it was fine. Our server did not say a word as she watched us take off the cheese. We then discovered ALL the veggie burgers also had mayo on them! At this point we were extremely frustrated, as we had made it very clear that we did NOT want cheese and we even asked her if the burgers came with mayo and she said no. We scraped the mayo off the bun and enjoyed the burger. When our server came to check on us, I politely mentioned to her that all the burgers DID have mayo. I was extremely nice to her about this and all she said was "thank you." She never offered to get us new burgers, comp our meal, or anything. She didn't even say sorry. This was extremely frustrating as we were being very nice and she couldn't even say sorry. On our bill, we were charged for a "Cindys Lemon Drop" (which was $5 more expensive than what I had ordered..) Nothing was taken off the bill at all. At this point I just wish we would've gotten better service as we were extremely nice about it. She was very short with us for the rest of the time we were there. The veggie burgers and my dads prime rib was enjoyable, though. I would come back if I felt like an appreciated customer, but we were treated poorly. One of our favorite go-to restaurants. Everything is consistenly good here. Wish it was a little more kid-friendly so we could go there more often. Great bar. LOVE the ladder and hook merlot. the best! salads are the best. I'm so critical, and every veggie is perfectly cut, fresh and the greens are fresh, awesome salad dressings. The only thing I'm not a fan of is the chic salad sandwich. Other than that, the fish, steaks and burgers are great. Chic tenders are fab. Love the fries and soup. Based on the reviews I feel like a bit of a schmuck just giving this place two stars. The service was fine; however, the food was just so blah I cannot even be bothered to round up. To me, J. Alexander's has always been a very pricey lunch spot for just average food. I went there today with a few co-workers and had a tuna burger. It was just "meh". Honestly, not a whole lot of flavor going on with it at all. It seemed to lack all seasoning, including salt and was on the dry side. Another person at the table ordered it as well and she and I were both equally disappointed in what we got. For just that burger, fries, and a glass of water, my total was $19.34! An automatic 15% was added on since there were six in our party. While I am fine with that because the service was attentive, it was not brought to our attention. Instead, one of us noticed it and let the others know before they tacked on 15-20% of their own on top of the automatic amount. It may have been written somewhere on the menu; however, I think it would have been nice if the server would have brought this to our attention. If he had, I would probably have added a couple of bucks onto the total because the $2.45 tip that was automatically added seemed a bit low to me. For $19.34, I could go to Gabby's twice and have wonderful food. The only thing I truly enjoyed was my fries. Shoestring fries that were crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. It was the highlight of my food and that's not saying much for the amount of money I shelled out for something lackluster. It's kind of a glorified O'Charley's if you really want to know. It's never been a place that has had a "wow" factor for me. Basically it is just food to ward off the rumbling in my belly. From my tip: The excellent Thai Kai Salad is no longer on the menu but is still available on request. This J. Alexander's doesn't feel quite as nice as the ones in Cool Springs or West End, but the food is the same. I had the black bean soup and the Cajun Trout, both of which were excellent. Our server was attentive and quick, and the food was right out of the oven. Their salads are also good if you want to avoid the post-lunch coma. read more

J. Alexander has GREAT service. The host, waiters, staff, and management are very pleasant ...top notch. We received smiles, greetings, and super fast table service. My fiance and I were seated in a great intimate location. The food was delicious. I had the Ahi Tuna filet medium well as recommended by the waiter. it was moist, well seasoned and worth every penny. I also ordered the $12 margarita. Forgot the name of it but it came in a small glass, not what I was expecting, but powerful enough for me. I only had one but it was all i needed, St. germain and mint leaves included. On recommendation from a coworker, my fiance ordered Mr. Jack's Crispy Chicken Platter. HUGE plate of food! He said the homemade sauces gave the dish great flavor. The platter comes with coleslaw and fries but he switched them for broccoli and orzo and wild rice. He didn't care for the rice because it was cold. I loved it on the other hand and we took it to go. The cranberries gave this side item a surprising twist that I totally enjoyed. #happymouth Also, if you've never had and Old Fashion cocktail J Alexander makes a great one. It's not on the menu but all bartenders are taught to make it so just ask. whisky or bourbon, bitters, sugar cube, and water. In the words of my fiance, "that shit was FI-ER!" Now to the "but"...the wait on a friday night was ooooooooh my god and eternity! We were initially told 20 min but i think it ended up being about 30. quit a few couples ahead of us left. I just ate lunch here with my best friend and her mom. I wasn't really excited about going since it's a chain and all but I was excited to hang out with them. I was pleasantly surprised by this place. During their lunch rush we waited 5 minutes for a table. Please note that if you are trying to be healthy this is not the place to go because after being seated they brought us a basket of fresh, warm croissants with a side of honey butter. Our waiter was very nice. After chatting a while they brought us our food. It didn't occur to us that it had been an exceptional amount of time. But shortly after we received our food the manager came to our table and started apologizing that it had taken so long and comped our meal. We were kind of confused by this and wondered if he had mistaken our table for another. The second time the manager walked by us he apologized again and said that it was not our servers fault. We really thought that he had the wrong table now so when our waiter came back we asked. Apparently the manager just thought that our food had taken too long to prepare and comped it. They never thought that we were upset. I guess that pretty much boils down to unexpected excellent service. The food was really good too. I had the veggie burger and it was so moist and delish. it came with a haystack of tiny fries that were really good too. Like I said... not healthy. Slipping. Not sure what happened here, they used to be super consistent and great at attending to their customers. We arrived and there was trash spilling out of the ashtray by the door. The brass on the door was filthy. We were seated in a booth in the bar area, and it took several minutes for someone to come by. Eating with two small kids we had the whole order ready to go when she arrived. Service was sub-par, empty glasses, no follow-up once food was dropped. Food portions are smaller, prices up. I was very pleased with my experience here. This location doesn't seem as upscale as the West End location, however I was pleased with the short wait time on a Friday night. Everything was carefully prepared and brought to the table with care. They even brought my straw out on a plate. I ordered the Grilled Salmon and the Mac and Cheese. I was very pleased with the large portion sizes! The Salmon was prepared perfectly with accompanying tartar sauce. The Macaroni and cheese was baked well, crispy on top and warm and moist on the inside. Excellent customer service from the wait staff as well. read more

It's been a few years since I've visited a J Alexander's but it didn't disappoint. Started off with the queso appetizer and while a bit thick was great. The ribs were just as good as I remembered. It's a great looking restaurant that has a warm and inviting look. I'd recommend it to anyone. We had a reservation and were seated right on time. The service was a bit choppy in the beginning, I think our server was too busy. Food is good. Service at bar area was uninspired. Your bill will so "conveniently" calculate various levels of potential tips. It just didn't look right. Turns out their calculations have you tipping on tax. When I mentioned this to the bartender she told me that since she has to pay taxes on tips that they would naturally propose that I tip on tax, but this was a corporate decision, not hers. Seems to me they have a good product with a low regard for customers, at least on this visit. read more

LOVE their Tai Kai salad! Greens piled HIGH, a good portion of chicken and the tastiest dressing! Today I opted for the Steak Burger. It was perfectly cooked, as was my companions's cheese burger. I used to go once a week, but Prices keep getting higher and I go less frequently because of that. Even so, the service is always exemplary and the food is consistently delicious and perfectly cooked. Having made my living serving in a restaurant similar to this, I have to say KUDOS to the company for maintaining quality product and service.
