Ate at this branch on New Year's Eve. Steak was tough and had sinew running through a good proportion of it. Waited an age for drinks, our server was good but other assisting staff couldn't care less. Oh and what's happened to the portions of the carrot cake. Good food, service, and price. The place does get very loud so that could be improved on but overall, it was a nice experience for my first time and I would come back. The fried calamari was delicious and tasted fresh. My filet mignon with béarnaise sauce was delicious and cooked properly; however, my boyfriend's Steak Maui was well done when he requested it medium. Even with that mistake, the steak tasted good and he didn't make it an issue out of it. I'm sure if we brought it to the waiters attention, they would have switched it out if we asked without any issues. I say that because my order came with a baked potato but what I got was mashed potatoes so when I brought it up in passing that their baked potato looked different than what I had expected, they brought out the baked potato right away. I've been here many times, especially since it's close to home. They are usually always busy in the evenings, especially on weekends. I have never been disappointed with my food. It's always fresh, tastes good and have good size portions. Some of my favorites are the calamari, entree salads, and steak. I've never had better calamari elsewhere and they also make the best dirty martinis with blue cheese stuffed olives. It's equivalent to 2 drinks, they bring the remainder in a small bottle for you to drink at your leisure. Great place and great atmosphere. read more

J. Alexander's is always a solid experience!!! Their steaks are cooked on an open flame, always tender, flavorful, and high quality! The Alex Salad is my definitely one of my go to dishes here it's huge, tasty, healthy, and the dressing is made in house and is like nothing you'll find in a store. This location has a patio but they do a nice job with social distancing inside the restaurant I will come in the winter months as I see they take the Co-Vid seriously. I didn't give it five stars because the service is hit or miss which I think is a result of the place always being busy and seems like a lot of teenagers like patronizing the place and the staff seems annoyed by them. This is our go-to steak restaurant! He gets the NY strip, I get the filet mignon. The NY strip comes with their NYO Mac n cheese (not your ordinary), which is solid. The filet comes with a baked potato, which I switch out for the broccoli, which is pretty good. The quality of the meat is great, especially for what you're paying. They're both ~$35 each. I did not enjoy those at all. We all happened to order the Ahi Tuna Salad which I have had many times before and one of my favorites here. All three of us enjoyed our Ahi Tuna Salad. The upper end style restaurant is in a shopping center in West Bloomfield. Spencer Raymond one of the managers was so nice as he answered all of our questions about J. Alexander's. Being from California we had never even heard of this restaurant chain of 30 some venues before. We sat in the bar area where Ryann Mcgee the bartender did a great job serving us some delicious drinks, and taking our food orders with a very pleasant smile and personality. I will never go to this location again. Had to send my food back 3 times and then ordered something different for the 4th time to just take home. I was charged too. I get home to take the food off and everything was torn apart. Disgusting. Call to speak to a manger and they didn't care. They asked me what I would like them to do. My SO's drink order is pretty specific, and that's the only part of our dinner experience that the very inexperienced waitress had difficulty with, along with knowing what beers they had available and where to get a list of them. When those things were sorted out and the manager came over to get the drink order details, we were on our way. We started out with a salmon spread appetizer, which was both generously portioned and delicious, arriving with plenty of crisps to spread it on. For entrees, I had baby back ribs, which were very good, and SO had Prime Rib, which she asked for and got. All in all, a good experience at this West Bloomfield location. We went to celebrate my friends birthday as we often do since its convenient to most of our homes. Had a pretty good experience on a Friday night for dinner. Showed up a little bit before the crowd I feel. Our server was really nice and everything was pleasant, after my initial shock of them not having any more salmon dip, which was a big reason why I wanted to return for dinner, as I have only been once for lunch. I thought about leaving upon hearing the news, but was so hungry I decided to stay. I will make sure to call ahead next time I go for a meal to make sure they have the salmon dip. However, I did enjoy the spinach queso dip. Had plenty of chips and the queso was good. Ordered the Steak Tuscan which was the new york strip special, with a side of potatoes. I also ordered the side of mac and cheese which may have caused some confusion because I didn't get the potatoes until I mentioned something to the server. She thought I meant to sub out for the mac, but it wasn't a big deal to me I just didn't want to get charged for an extra side when I only received one. She ended up still not charging me after delivering the potatoes anyway. The mac and cheese was soooo good. I never like ordering mac and cheese when I am out to eat because it never ends up being as good as the restaurant says, but J. Alexanders can back it up. It was so delicious and creamy. The steak wasn't too bad either. By the end of the meal I completely forgot about not having the salmon dip, because everything was really good.
