I love this store and the people who work there - gracious and kind. I always find some beautiful bracelet or earrings for a great price nearly every time I go. I got scrolling cz-encrusted dangle earrings for $25 - love them! Another purchase was a cz tennis bracelet for $30 that looks like a Crislu. They can repair any of your jewelry that needs fixing, and of course do watch batteries. If a bracelet you have doesn't fit exactly right, they can make it feel like it was made for you. If one or two cz's are missing from a necklace or watch, they can replace them. They also have a layaway plan if you see something wonderful in the higher-end jewelry they have. Don't waste your time coming here. I called over the phone that I had some gold and silver to sell. They were closing in 45 minutes and I said I lived in the neighborhood. I have an injured knee from a car accident and am using a cane and a brace. I put everything on and rushed out the door. I come in and show them my gold 14K emerald jeweled ring. she says she can only give me $70 for it. I wasn't thrilled but I needed the money and was already there and the ring was too big on me. The blonde woman tests the ring and it was gold as I knew. She asks for my license. I give it to her. I asked about the silver and she says you need a lot of it. So I said ok,i have more at home. So after she takes my license she rudely tells me there's a lot of paperwork and they are closing in 30 minutes. She can't be bothered and has a nasty, mean attitude. They are closed for the next two days, come back next week. It was too late to go anywhere else. I said I told her I needed the money today. She couldn't care less and shrugs her shoulders. "Oh well." I'm standing there with a cane injured and she so horribly talks down to me. I was very upset Why did she have me rush in when i called to tell me she can't be bothered when i got there On the phone she said i should definitely come right in cause they were closed for the next two days. total waste of my time and made me feel very downtrodden and sad. The pawn shop guy in Merrick I sold some gold to was much nicer. He didn't give me much, but at least he was courteous, took his time and treated me with respect. Although I live on Long Island, I first became acquainted with Lisa and her amazing store, J & H Jewelry, via Etsy. I was visiting with friends in New Orleans and was looking at fleur-di-lis earrings while there, none of which appealed to me, and all of which were way overpriced. One night, while still in NOLA, I decided to look for fleur-de-lis earrings online, because it occurred to me that if my reason behind wanting such earrings (a symbol of the city) was to commemorate this trip, where they were purchased was not as important as what they represented. And then I found J & H Jewelry on Etsy. There I saw a pair of vintage gold and diamond accented fleur-de-lis earrings, that far outshined anything I had seen in NOLA, which is no small feat as the plethora of antique and vintage fine jewelry to be found in that city is nothing short of mind-boggling. Not only that, but the price was reasonable, Lisa was a pleasure to deal with, and the earrings arrived soon after I returned home. I've been wearing them every day since. J & H is located in Bellmore, making it seem like a trek to me as I live in Port Washington (miles just to reach the LIE), but I couldn't wait to go to the store and meet Lisa and her wonderful team (and wonderful they were). The selection of antique and vintage pieces -- both fine and better costume -- is both large and diverse, and while this is their specialty, they also have a great selection of new fine jewelry. Everything is displayed beautifully and one feels comfortable to browse. Repairs are top-notch -- the benchperson (I forgot her name...so sorry!) is gifted with stellar skills and prices are most certainly fair, unlike other places I have had the misfortune to put my trust in. Unfortunately, I did not have a good experience working with this Seller. Perhaps they are better to work with in person, but online I had problems that I shouldn't have had. (in fact, my experience went from bad to worse, as this Seller is now harassing me, telling lies and using profanity in their messages to me. I am a professionally trained in grading diamonds myself and know this piece was not as described. Their service was singularly unprofessional - not to mention the backlash of hateful messages I have received. I use Yelp to leave feedback for businesses that don't have a regular feedback system - like this one that was on Ruby Lane - and am always happy to leave great feedback for businesses that deserve it. However, people should also be warned of such a negative experience, like this one.) The diamond ring was represented as being SI1 clarity and was in fact in the I range with an eye-visible inclusion. (it had been specified as eye-clean, though I know that is somewhat subjective) Also, the ring had been re-shanked, which was not disclosed and the item was not shipped with the shipping service/speed agreed to....communication about that was not helpful - merely defensive and became rude. Packaging could have been better for an item priced over $3000.00 - there was just some torn edged bubble wrap used with the box. I've re-sold the ring as it is not the quality of the stone I had been looking for and will not work with this seller again, nor recommend them.... ** UPDATE after Sellers response: I did NOT keep the ring - I sold it to someone who didn't kind the lower clarity grade of the diamond. I did not have a "fit" as the Seller so unprofessionally says - I was not happy that we had agreed to ship it with a faster service and that's what I paid for. I did not receive any discount on the shipping I paid, despite receiving a slower and cheaper service. This Seller was not professional about her error and was very defensive and unpleasant. I think her response gives a hint of how she reacts when issues arise. Wish I had also read some of the less flattering reviews on Facebook before purchasing. That's why I wanted to be sure to leave a review here. ** UPDATE #2: the Seller has just sent me a very unpleasant message telling me how nasty I am for "ruining her reputation." This is someone I would stay away from, unfortunately. I'm glad I was able to sell the ring to someone who liked it...but, I have good reason for not being happy with something that wasn't as described and wasn't shipped as we agreed to....the nastiness and unprofessionalism that has followed has just reinforced my opinion about this Seller, and I've downgraded from 2 stars to 1 star, and have asked her to stop harassing me. A really unfortunate experience. ** UPDATE #3: this woman will not stop harassing me and sent profanity in her last message. So not professional and she did not try and make things right....ever. All she seems to care about is her review. I truly would look elsewhere. The mark of a good Seller and a professional is how they handle issues that arise - and this person is difficult and very rude when things don't go perfectly her way. I have purchased many 'estate' and 'antique / vintage' pieces from a number of jewelry stores on Long Island and without question, I have never enjoyed this experience more. The store was inviting and I never felt any sort of pressure while shopping. I must have looked through two full showcases and never did I feel rushed. The selection at J&H is absolutely wonderful. When looking at each piece, I had a ton of very detailed questions. While many other sellers might have gotten impatient, Lisa answered every question thoroughly and I must say her knowledge is extensive. All in all, I have nothing but great things to say. I am an avid vintage jewelry collector, Though I tend to opt for reasonably priced and amazing items, this jewelry store has items to suite all budgets and tends to be mid-range priced, sometimes though a bit overpriced for the offering, not as well-priced as say an antique store. I liked this store very much when I first came here, however there have been occasions where I have noticed that an item has a certain price one day then a higher price tag on a subsequent visit.
