A friend of mine brought in her 2014 Jeep Compass to J.D. Byrider of Florence, KY for repair. The car stalled on the highway, set the CEL, and would not run afterwards. The vehicle was towed to their garage because she believed that some part of the car trouble would be covered under warranty. $92.88 of the costs were covered under warranty. "Vincent V" (you will need to change your alias Vince!) had determined that the throttle body was bad. The description on the ticket includes a throttle position sensor (TPS), so it is not clear if the sensor was bad, and the throttle assembly was replaced or just the sensor. She was charged $199.97 for the USED throttle position sensor, $188.80 for labor, $4.38 for the intake manifold gasket, $29.50 for the intake manifold gasket labor, and $59.00 for the diagnostic labor. Aftermarket parts cost for this vehicle are $13.49 for the Duralast throttle position sensor at Autozone, and $106.99 for a Bosch throttle body assembly at Advanced Auto Parts (which includes the TPS!). What I think she got for her $400.00 bill was a used throttle position sensor from the mechanic's stash. When she asked for the parts that were replaced, the desk clerk in so many strange facial expressions or less, denied her request. In my opinion, a fair service fee for the work would have been, $59 for the diagnostic, $59 for the installation of a NEW throttle position sensor, and $20 for the part. With $92.88 credit , her bill would have been $45.12. Without the warranty credit, $138, still significantly less than $400, AND a very good reason to stay as far away from their garage and illicit practices as possible!! read more

In a word. CRAP. So this is my third JD Byrider car. I purchased my first vehicle back in 2006. My first vehicle was a Chevy Tahoe. Paid it off and never had an issue till someone hit me and totaled the car. Went back to the same dealership and same salesman Donnie (rest in peace) and purchased a Cadillac SRX. I loved that car. It was absolutely flawless. But such as my luck, someone hit me going 65mph while I was sitting at a dead stop in traffic. Insurance totaled the car. Called good ole Donnie again (rest in peace), and Byrider put me in another car and moved the small amount I still owed after the insurance settlement over to the new car. So now, I've had this 2013 Jeep Cherokee for almost 3 years, and it's spent the majority of its time in service. The first couple of months, the car made this obnoxiously loud whining noise that rattled the whole car every time you ran the a/c. I took the car to Byrider, and they inspected the car and said they couldn't "recreate the issue." I took the car to an actual garage for a second opinion. That garage diagnosed the problem as someone filled the a/c coolant to almost double its required operating levels. The system was purged and recharged, and not only did that issue never happen again, but whataya know, ICE COLD AIR! For the next 18 months, the car would just randomly shut off. I would be driving on the highway, take my foot off the gas to slow down, and the car would just die. This cost me a fortune in towing bills as I had to have the car towed to Byrider Colerain at least 4 times. Each time I was told they "couldn't recreate the issue." That March, I took a job with the railroad and had to go to Georgia for training. Byrider paid for a rental and had the car for a whole month. They called Chrysler for help, and they were told to replace the cam shaft position sensor and the crankshaft position sensor. That did fix that problem. Fast forward to the past 6 months, and now that the car is out of warranty, all new issues have started that have cost me over $5000.00 in repairs. I've been getting this P06DD code for over a year now. "Oil pressure sensor stuck in the off position." I took the car to Byrider, and they had the car for 2 weeks repairing a coolant leak. When I got the car back, there were no check engine lights. Two days later, I'm driving along and boom, another check engine light. I take the car to Auto Zone to have the code read. And whataya know, P06DD "oil pressure sensor stuck in the off position." I called Byrider, reported the check engine light, and dropped the car off on Thursday. I called every day until they finally finished the car the following Wednesday. I was told they installed a new oil sending unit. That's right, not the oil pressure sensor, the oil sending unit. I got the car back 4 days later (this is just a few weeks ago), and now the check engine light is on again. Guess what? P06DD "oil pressure sensor stuck in the off position." Mind you, every time this happens, it puts the car in limp mode. Anyway, I called Byrider again, this time, I raised 9 kinds of hell and told them I needed the car back the same day and not to schedule me an appointment unless they could accommodate my schedule. Which they did. I dropped the car off at 9 am. the following Wednesday, July 17, 2024, and I called later that afternoon to see if the vehicle was finished. Kyla put me on the phone with Larry, the mechanic, who told me the engine is blown. Larry said he would turn it into the warranty company to see if they would replace the engine as the history with this issue goes back almost 2 years. Of course, the warranty company denied the claim. Strange thing is when I dropped the car off, it was running super smooth with the exception of the check engine light. Now there is a loud, screeching metal on metal grinding noise and even weirder than that, the car is missing 3 lug nuts off the passenger, rear tire, and 2 from the passenger front tire. So now I have 2 years left to pay off a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo paperweight that I believe Byrider purposely tried to sabotage. I have contacted the local news agencies and my attorney and wrote a letter to the Attorney General of Kentucky. Hopefully, I will see justice. DONT EVER BUY A CAR FROM THESE PEOPLE. EVER! There's a good reason all their stores are closing, and their inventory is crap. They don't care. They are a predatory lender, and they feed on people with bad credit. I also believe their mechanic is completely incompotent and purposely destroyed my vehicle because after 2 years of troubleshooting, they couldn't fix the problem and tried to swindle the warranty company at my expense. The only positive thing I can say about Byrider is that Donnie, the salesman, was a sweetheart of a man, and I was so sorry to hear of his passing. ​ read more

Bought my truck from JD BYRIDER and boy what a mistake. Truck wouldn't start so I had it take back to them to have it fixed. They had it for a week called me said it's ready. I go to pick it up a it wouldn't start finally it started made it one block had to have it hauled back then they put some expensive part put in called me say it's ready go pick it up makes it 4 blocks had to have it hauled back. They say it's not the wiring they checked and then put a new computer in it and that didn't fix it then a win module that didn't fix it. All they was doing was throwing parts at the have no idea what they are doing beware they had my truck for 7 weeks pitiful. This family run business has more than 40 years history. I think generation two is doing the day to day stuff with their lovely girrly Dachshund. Boyfriend tested three cars on the lot... Toyota, Kia and then a Buick. Being a taller guy who is planning to drive for Uber ... the burgundy with gray interior Buick Rendevous he found was a great selection, and certainly ready to drive whenever he wants to take others where they want to go. This famy business procures cars at auction, fixes them up with a local mechanic at about 1/3 the price of dealership labor, and offers them for sale just off of Dixie Highway in Florence/Erlanger. The cars are sold for their asking price, with a set down payment, and financed (zero interest) the rest of the way though their company. Very easy going about test drives, nice people. Easy terms. January 5 2017 I'm updating my review to reflect my current status with this location and JD Byrider in general. I'm going to start off with some questions. How would you like your family to be exposed to harmful carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and oxides of nitrogen and get ill because of this? Chances are you would not. When buying a vehicle from ANY JD Byrider, you run just this risk. Why? With my 2006 Pontiac G6 I have purchased at 105,000 miles and now has 120,000 miles my catalytic converter has gone bad. This is a known issue with these cars. JD Byrider acknowledged the issue and gave me the excuse that it is not covered under warranty (the same excuse I got when I had my brake light issue - the issue where my brake lights WOULD NOT turn off ***another known G6 problem***). This location was willing to work with me and only charge me a fraction of the price to repair the problem. So though the problem is THEIR responsibility (a catalytic converter does not go bad in 15,000 miles - this was confirmed by a GM dealer) I would still be required to pay for their negligence. Yea, that has me concerned. How would you like to purchase a vehicle that doesn't have a working EMERGENCY BRAKE? My car hasn't had a working emergency brake since I purchased it. This location was willing to cover it and fix it though it is not covered under warranty. But a location located in Colerain, Ohio is currently fighting me tooth and nail. They are a corporate store (just like Florence, KY) but operate completely different. I explained to them that they are closer so that's why I wanted to go to them, and they simply didn't care. Besides that, Shouldn't this be covered under warranty? That's a little careless for it not to be, much like the converter. Let's give people a car without brakes that they can use in an EMERGENCY and not fix them for free. How about buying a car that requires a tune up? You just bought this car, it supposedly went through a VERY thorough inspection. After all, with a 20% interest rate, you would expect it to be a reliable car like they claim. Wrong. My vehicle has had a misfire in cylinder 3 since purchase. They told me it could just need a tune up. I did the tune up TWICE, misfire still happens. This is bad. This is horrible. This is probably the reason for the clogged converter. Also, it could be a leaky injector causing this misfire in cylinder 3. With the converter, the injectors and the tune up not covered under warranty, could JD Byrider be scamming their customers by allowing the vehicle to run rich and spew unburned has into the exhaust causing the converter to prematurely go bad so that they can receive extra money through costly repairs? After all, to replace two converters on this specific vehicle would cost $1,800 BEFORE labor the leaky injector is the same. That could get pretty costly. Remember when I went to get a strut replaced and they only wanted to fix one side which would pose a safety concern as well as a mechanical concern? Hmmmm.... this is all making sense to me. JD Byrider doesn't care about providing quality cars and service. They are trying to milk their customers for all they can! I'll post pictures of warranty covered items so you guys can act smart when purchasing. Get these items check by a mechanic during every test drive guys! This is a SERIOUS problem. read more

Recently purchased a car from byrider due to my old car being run down....Within the first month of owning the car i had it brought in three times for service everytime after i was told the car should be good to go. a month after i brought the car to my mechanic who showed me every single broken part i had which included me struts, one of the engine mounts (which they claim to have replaced), lower control arms, and finally my coolant resivoir had a leak. i wouldnt be so upset had i not asked for themto check over my car to ensure everything was ok and been told the car sounds the way it drives because it is a low-profile car....if i could give this place zero stars i truly would. It's sad to me that my mechanic as well as Walmart tire and lube technicians could tell me the lower control arms were shot before JD Byrider's "certified mechanics" could. False advertising. Their website says "We work with you no matter your financing or credit history." That's strange. I walked in with paystubs, $2k down payment, license, etc. and was turned down. Why? The credit that they work with "no matter what". Dont buy their vehicles that are marked up twice the blue book and sold at criminally high interest rates. They will say anything to get you in there. It sounds so easy. Go to a reputable dealership that doesn't need the "buy here, pay here" gimmick. They don't always have a lot of used cars on hand but they can help you without having the goal of ripping you off as much as possible. JB Byryder preys on people with financial difficulties and they are simply a disgusting company with salesman more than happy to put the disgusting concepts into practice. Stay away from them. They don't have very many cars that you would really want to choose from. I got lucky and got a 2002 hinda accord, but... I haven't had the car for a year and already have gotten a new engine and it needs a new transmisson, luckily it is still under warrenty and this does not cost me anything, but they should have resovled this before even putting the vehicle on their lot...all this aside it is the place to go if you have no or bad credit and/or if you have very little money to put down on the car but they will overcharge you for the vehicle. read more

It's been many years since I've dealt with these guys, but from what I hear, it's still the same ol' JD Byrider. They prey on people with credit issues that think they can't go to a "real" dealership. Then again, Byrider fools them into thinking that they are a "real" dealership. It's a glorified buy-here pay-here lot. They sell crap cars and aren't upfront with what you will be paying over the life of your loan. They wow you with a low down payment and then they wait for you to sign on the dotted line. My mom purchased an S-10 pickup truck back in the late '90s. It needed a transmission within 1000 miles and the entire underside of the truck was rusted out. $8000 for a piece of crap that was 11 years old. You live and learn. I'd give them zero stars if I had the option. They have had my son's car for almost a month! They have given him the run around on fixing the car and he still doesn't have it back! When a kid trusts the place he bought the car from, has to make a living (meaning he has to get to work somehow) and support 3 babies- and when the dealership/service dept. has had the car in their shop for over 3 weeks, you'd think there'd be some urgency in getting the job done as well as better communication. I feel they overcharged him for the car and they are worthless as a place I'd take my car to have work done on it- but when you have a "warranty" through them- you have little choice. I saw jd byrider as an opportunity to build my credit and get a reliable vehicle for me and my kids. I bought it august 2012, a month later it was in the shop for a check engine light. not much later, my van started jerking and dying out in the middle of the road. they gave me a rental car with the gas light on and died half a mile up the road! they replaced a sensor, and about a month later it did the same thing. another crappy rental, apparently another bad sensor and another month later my car was towed for the same thing again! they gave me the same rental car as before, which is on the lot for sale, and barely runs. they had my car for an entire month. I picked it up on friday, on sunday, with kids in tow, it died in the middle of the road a mile from my house. please don't buy from here. they are scamming people! I purchased a 2007 Honda Civic from Donny. He was very helpful and I just had a good vibe from the whole experience. My boyfriend and I had been looking for a car for a month with terrible experiences. They have a play area which was great for my son. They told us they would report to the credit bureaus which would help raise our score. I have recently checked my credit and the car loan is on there. The radio was not working which they took care of in under an hour at no charge. The only reason I am giving them 4 stars and not 5 is because I'm pretty sure I was bitten by bed bugs while going through the approval process. read more
