WOW! I just can't get over how amazing our meal was! Our server was top notch! I'm sry I can't remember his name.. we didn't have a reservation. But came at 5 so we did get seated! I'm glad we came at 5. It really got busy around 6 and we probably wouldn't have gotten a table! Our server explained the menu gave us great recommendations. The Wine was Devine! I'm not a big drinker but man was that good! Our crab soup was just amazing! The Steak and sides where also amazing ! So good! Our desert was really good. We where just so full! It's a lot of food! I came in for dinner on Tuesday night and sat at the bar. The bartender, Gina was able to guided me though the menu and made some suggestions that I really enjoyed from the martinis to the entree. She recommend the scallops and 4 Oz filet combo. For sides I got au gratin potatoes and mushrooms which were delicious. For dessert I got the carrot cake. Let me preface this by saying that we've been to J.Gilbert's several times over the last 2 years and have never had a bad experience until the other night. We made reservations like we always do, several days in advance. We arrive to the restaurant about 5 minutes before our reservation to check in and are told that there are no open tables and that the wait would be about 30 minutes. 45 minutes later we were asked if we'd like a table in the bar area, which we reluctantly took. I get that places get busy but what's the point of setting a reservation at a specific time if we're not going to get a table? That was strike one. Strike two and three were the food and service. I'm not sure if we just went on an off night but both weren't great. My steak was severely overcooked and my wife's was considerably undercooked. I wanted to say something to the server but after dropping our food off we didn't see her again until the end of the meal. One of our favorite places to eat in Omaha for a nice evening out or a special event. It is great for a family dinner (our kids are teens/early 20s - this is always their birthday dinner pick!) or a date night. The wood-fired steaks taste great, all of the salads and sides have been good, and the service is excellent. The prix fixe menu is an excellent value, as well. My only complaint is the $20 cost to valet park for dinner at the Marriott...they should validate for parking with the valet! read more

We have been to J Gilbert's three times now and have never been disappointed by the attentive service, the food and the drinks. Discovered this place while looking for a restaurant to dine on Christmas Eve. The reviews looked great so decided to give it a try. And we're so pleased we did. My mother-in-law from San Francisco is extremely particular. So glad she likes this restaurant and only requests J. Gilbert's when they come to town. Whenever I speak with the manager for any requests since we're entertaining meticulous family from out of town, he has been very accommodating. Overall I had a good experience at J. Gilbert's. I sat at the bar and was greeted promptly. The service wasn't bad, but for some reason, I felt like the bartender was forcing himself to be kind and courteous. Just didn't feel genuine and I felt like a bother. Being a Restaurant Marketing professional, I felt like the menu was a bit confusing & had a poor layout. Just too much information. The food was good. The beet salad wasn't anything special, I recommend skipping that or trying a different starter. I ordered a 10oz filet medium-rare and it was delivered medium-well after 10 minutes. I sent the steak back and 20 minutes later my medium-rare steak was delivered. It was absolutely delicious. The house seasoning/rub was perfect. I loved that the they provided you a selection of steak knives - nice touch. Overall not a bad experience - I say a 3.5star rating, but will round up to 4stars. We had a private room and it was adequately staffed for our group of 22. The menu is somewhat limited, but the food was exceptional. They feature fresh seafood flown in every other day and you can tell they only use quality ingredients. I selected the 38oz tomahawk ribeye for my entree after splitting a seafood appetizer featuring crab legs, oysters on the half shell and lobster claws. The ribeye came out perfectly seasoned and prepared. I was given a knife but the steak was so well prepared you could probably just use a fork. There was additional sauce or seasoning needed. My struggle here was an overall lack of consistency in both food and service. Lets get into the highs - drinks, the smoked Old Fashioned was amazing, it appeared to be a popular drink as nearly every table seemed to have one. The steaks were also wonderfully seasoned and very tender, my husband thought it was one of the better steaks he has ever had. Some of the disappointments were the charcuterie board - the cheeses were something I could pick up at my local target (think basic cheddar) and when the board was dropped off the server immediately walked away offering no explanation of the meats or cheeses in front of us. The desserts also seemed to be mass produced and had likely been sitting in a refrigeration unit for a while. And, while the steaks were delicious, my husband ordered his medium and it came back extremely rare. We sent it back and it still came back medium rare. My entree - scallop with lobster risotto and a fennel salad was very nice, but the ceasar salad fell flat. For the price point and the fact that Omaha has a number of wonderful steakhouses, I think you can find overall better quality and more consistent execution elsewhere. Sorry J. Gilberts. read more

My husband and I tried this place for the first time before the Justin Timberlake concert, and I'm glad we did. We had 4:30pm reservations and got seated right away. When we ordered the food, it came out in about 15 minutes. So quick. I can't say that'd be the case if it was busier like 6 or 7, but we were impressed by the fast service. You get home made bread first with regular butter then a pastrami butter which was smoky and had a great flavor I ordered the Chicken Penne pasta. It was very good. Chicken was blackened and portion was the perfect size. It doesn't come with a side, but I was definitely full afterwards- didn't need a side anyway. Only down side was it wasn't piping hot, but it wasn't room temperature- in the middle which was ok. I just prefer my food hotter. My husband ordered the ribs. I tried one and the sauce was incredible. Meat fell off the bone and the smoky flavor was out of this world, and I'm usually not a rib person. It came with lobster mac and cheese, which was also great, and a baked potato which he didn't care for, said it was ice cold. I only give them 4 stars because of the food not being as warm as it could be, but that's it. Everything else, including service, was stellar! This place was amazing! I visited the restaurant while traveling for work. I found it on yelp and thought I'd give it a shot. It was a brand new place so why not. My co-workers and I walked 3 minutes from our hotel and as soon as I saw the place I knew we'd made a good choice. The location is very nice and the decor and atmosphere are very sophisticated. As we entered we were greeted by the hostess and complimentary coat check was offered right away. There was no wait, even though we didn't have a reservation, and we were seated right away. Now, the food is awesome, but I must say that our server, Amanda, made the night for us. She was sooo attentive and pleasant the entire time we were there. She made us feel very welcome and her hospitality was above the norm. Now to the food lol...it was everything you'd expect. The menu options were plentiful and they even have a fixed 3 course option that I thought was great. This is usually something you only see during a special event like restaurant week. I got the caesar salad, followed by the 6oz. filet accompanied by yukon mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts, followed by an apple tart (that I took to go). Everything was really good. They even bring out a selection of steak knives for you to choose your preference for your meal. The steak was cooked perfectly medium and was very tender. My co-workers: one got the steak and crab cake combo and the other the salmon entree. I also had the house made lemonade that was perfect. We all agreed that we had made a wise choice for the night. I'm glad I was able to come out and support this restaurant as they are starting out and I highly recommend that anyone looking for a fine steak or good dining experience give them a try. *I want to say again that Amanda was great. For the few times I've been to a steakhouse in Omaha this is my favorite! The decor and ambiance is not anything too special, it is your typical looking steakhouse. However, they blow you away with their top-of-line food. They provide sourdough bread with two types of butter, one is normal butter while their other is a special seasoned butter(delicious). We started with calamari to begin. It was good! Note it wasn't a stand out kind of calamari but nor was it a disappointment. Then came the main course. I got the bone-in KC strip which came with two sides so I got asparagus and mashed potatoes. The sides were excellent! Especially the asparagus, it was the most flavorful asparagus I've ever had! My steak was cooked a perfect medium plus. Not only that but it had fantastic flavor, there was no need for any steak sauce because it came so deliciously seasoned already. Each bite was nothing less than fireworks in my mouth! Now the one thing that holds this back from being a five star was their iffy service. I realize that I and my friends that I went with are on the younger side. With that being said I was still a customer and should not have been treated different. I made a reservation for 7:15, when we arrived they host told us they had no open table yet and we could go wait at the bar and they'd shortly have one for us. Well about 25 minutes passed and there was nothing. I had to go back to the host and find out what was going on! Finally after that we got seated. Our waiter was good, but it was obvious he wasn't paying full attention to us and had more focus on his older customers which I did not appreciate. If I could leave a no star review for this establishment I would! Had dinner reservations this evening at 6:15 to celebrate my daughter's graduation from Creighton. Arrived early and got seated at a table immediately. And there we sat looking at our menu for the next 10 minutes without any acknowledgement by any wait staff. The manager on duty wearing the pink dress shirt saw us sitting there and didn't approach us at all during this time. I finally called the number on the site and told the hostess we've been waiting without any acknowledgement and she put me on hold. Then I got disconnected-or hung up on. Husband went to talk to the manager and got offered a round of free drinks for our wait. No apology. Never came to the table to apologize to the group. Very disappointed with the whole experience! Our waitress finally did show up with waters. Now, in her defense, she had the big group seating in the separate area and no one told her we got seated. We didn't stay for our celebration dinner. Instead, we went to 801 chophouse (which is not very far away from this place located in the Paxton) and enjoyed a very wonderful dinner there! Was very disappointed there were no crab cakes tonight (haven't been here for several months) due to covid, but I understand this is something that cannot be helped. I always get the creme brulee (it's so good!) and was VERY disappointed to find out that the take home portion was 1/3 of what you get if ordered in the restaurant.
