I went to this restaurant two consecutive nights because the food and service were exceptional. Both nights I had the prix fixe meal, ordering the 6 oz filet combo with t he crab cake the first night and the 14 oz Kansas City strip on the second. I had an excellent wedge salad to start each meal. My entree sides were the burnt ends mac and cheese and grilled asparagus for the first meal and the lobster mac and cheese and grilled carrots the second. The restaurant has a nice special on Sundays: half price on all bottles of wine with an original price of $100 or less.i The deserts were overwhelming, and they packed some of it for me to take home each night (this became dinner the next night in the Amtrak California Zephyr). read more

We went here for the first time this weekend and it certainly exceeded expectations. Steaks were excellent (prime beef) and scallops were some of the best I have had. I know, Seafood in Omaha? No thanks right? They get the seafood flown in daily and it shows. With my meal i also had au gratin potatoes (average), green bens w pecans (very good) and a few smoked bourbon old fashions. We chose this place because we wanted to try someplace new. It opened 11/25/2018 so it's fairly new. They have complimentary valet parking on capitol Avenue (not the entrance to the Marriott). This is where the hostess is located. You can enter through the hotel but the hostess is on the opposite side under the staircase. We started with the beef carpaccio which I thought was really good. Probably because it had an interesting Dijon mustard dressing. They also had complimentary sour dough bread with whipped butter or pastrami butter. The bread was good. Very fresh. A little disappointed the entrees came out while we were finishing up our appetizer. They should have waited until we were finished. For my entree, I chose the filet combo which comes with a choice of shrimp, scallops or crab cakes - I chose scallops. My partner chose the bone-in ribeye. His steak was honestly very flavorful; I wish I got that one. Both entrees came with a choice of two sides. I chose mashed potatoes which were sub-par. A bit thick and not buttery (Fleming's is way better). We both chose the truffle mushrooms which were good but honestly not worth the $3 up charge. A nice feature is they let you choose your steak knife, varying on knife size and shape. I finished my wine at this point. There was this weird sediment at the bottom. I've never had that before, especially for a 2016 vintage. I pointed it out to our waiter Larry and he brushed it off like it was normal. No Larry, I don't think there should be crumbs in my wine (especially at $18 a glass). For dessert, I chose the apple pastry with ice cream and he chose the creme brulee. The pastry was very good - flaky and buttery and the apples were in cubes instead of slices so it was easier to eat. The sugar top of the creme brûlée was burnt in some parts and underdone in others. Did some research in the local area for a good steakhouse. Came across J. Gilbert's steak which had some great reviews. I decided to give it a shot. I was quickly greeted by a friendly server, Saul. I asked for his recommendation between the filet and the KC strip. He recommended the KC strip and gave me the reasons why. Upon my request, he also recommended the green beans with pecans and the Yukon mashed potatoes. OMG, he was spot on. The steak was out of this world, cooked to perfection! Absolute Sh_t Show !!!! In Omaha Made reservations hours (day) in advance (preference bar). Waited in hotel hour because early then waited another half hour when checking in for reservations. Advice: 1) RSVP means nothing to them 2) Dining area is a cattle call thats makes most fast food places feel luxurious 3) Food good enough but spent ~$600 for the 4 of us in bar last visit and had a better experience. Good food but not outstanding. Our table ordered ribeye steaks and sides were macaroni lobster, macaroni bacon bits, mushrooms and creamy corn. Ordered my steak medium but it was too rare. Sent it back and they got it just right. While waiting, the waitress was so kind to offer me the lobster bisque which was delicious. The bottle of red wine was good and so was my vodka martini. By far my favorite steakhouse now, perfect amount of seasoning and their brisket mac n cheese is delicious! Had had their au gratin potatoes and wasn't particular impressed, felt that they were bland but their mac n cheese made up for it. They serve their meals with sourdough bread with two different types of spreads and they are both delicious! My steak didn't come out the way I asked but they were quick to fix the issue and it came back just the way I asked for it. Ross was very friendly and by far my favorite waiter now, he was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. Will be back again and again for some more delicious steak! read more

The atmosphere is very warm and still laid back. It's not stuffy like other steakhouses. Also they have a dope Sunday happy hour. Our waiter, Curtis, was super helpful and gave amazing suggestions. Pros - Amaya was a FANTASTIC server (one of the best we've had in a long time). She had good suggestions, was timely without being hanging out at the table and was friendly through the meal. We did the Pre-Fixe menu - my Crab Bisque starter and Chocolate Velvet dessert were both among the best in there class. Cons - The Entree - the Lamb Chops were under cooked (even for me),leaving them tough and with gristle. The risotto was over salted (I am not a salt fan but AM a risotto fan). Our waiter was friendly and it was great to learn they offered mocktail versions of all the cocktails on the menu. The crab bisque was fantastic! Didn't hate a single thing we tried. An amazing experience for a very fair price. Not only was the service great, the ambiance made for a great date night. The food was amazing, my wife and I both had the prix fixe surf and turf. We were able to try both the crab cakes ( which is more crab than cake and incredibly delicious) and the scallops along with incredibly tender and flavorful steaks. This review was written and is based on a pre-Covid visit. First impression: Good-looking place, looks like a modern steakhouse without looking trendy, and classy without being stuffy. Came in on a quiet Thursday night, and was spoken to contemptuously when I told them we had no reservation. Irked my dining companions and myself. Not a good start. Got a couple cocktails. While waiting, I checked the sauce bottle - didn't seemed regularly cleaned, with a crusty lip beneath the cap. At the price this restaurant asks for, I'm expecting attention to detail, in and outside the food. I tried my friend's Smokey Old-Fashioned, and it was exceptional - one of the best cocktails I've ever had. I got myself a Manhattan. It was quite good as well, though I wish the Manhattan had an "ice globe" like the Old-Fashioned, because the ice chips were bashing my teeth. My other friend had the Boba Bubbly, which was quite nice as well, but not as good at the smokey. Hope for a good meal was not yet quelled. To start, we got the Beef Carpaccio. The carpaccio was so overloaded with parmesan that the potentially delicate flavor of the paper thin slice of beef tucked underneath was completely overpowered by the reggiano. At the very center, underneath the clump of arugula, sat a disk of crunchy parmesan. I remarked to my dining companions that the disk was reminiscent of those dark, unspoken times when you microwave a plate of shredded cheese and it congeals into an altogether not-unpleasant discus of dairy. They quickly came to the same conclusion as me: How can one taste the quality of beef when it's completely submerged? We also ordered the blue cheese potato chips, which were disappointing to say the least. What they created in volume, they lacked entirely in flavor. The chips were covered with what appeared and tasted like a not-wholly complete bechamel sauce, with tiny pecks of blue cheese. I was expecting a much more robust blue cheese flavor, and when it did exist it tasted like a generic pre-crumbled blue cheese you can find at the supermarket. And at the price point of $12.50 for potatoes and cheese, the expectation of quality was not met. It remained mostly uneaten, having deemed an utter waste of calories. The bread came next. I was still existing in a near catatonic state mourning the beef carpaccio. Usually when it comes to bread, I have a serious problem. Many times, the bread is so wholesome and wonderful, you get full on it before your main course even comes out. This time, the bread was quickly forgotten. The breads had a not unpleasant woody smell, in the same way a hardware store can have a comforting scent. The crust was decent, and center-most interior was a nice chewy sourdough. The regular butter tasted like a rich ice cream without sugar, and the pastrami butter wasn't bad either. Both severely needed salt. I initially tried to order the top sirloin, but it was unavailable. I guess it was too much to expect a steakhouse to have steak as an option. I got the "Prime Sirloin + Shrimp Brochettes," with seasonal vegetables which I felt was misleading in more than one way. I thought such a name would mean that the dish was a steak, with shrimp skewers on the side. Instead, the dish consisted of three skewers, with two pieces of steak per skewer. The lack of clarity was wholly disgruntling, and would have saved me immeasurable disappointment. When I order "seasonal vegetables" in the twilight of autumn, I don't expect generic white button mushrooms with a geriatric texture, and undercooked, mealy tomatoes. Yet that's what I got. For a high-end restaurant to not get fresh produce and resort to preparing veggies in such a manner is simply unacceptable. Onions were also undercooked, and the green peppers were okay. Shrimp was actually pretty tasty. The sirloin was tender and well-seasoned but lacked an inherent beef flavor in addition to the substance of a meaty chunk. Feels like I paid $35 for a bunch of really cheap items with a very inconsistent execution.  The rice and quinoa were wholly unremarkable. Basmati rice was so wet and overcooked. Worst of all was a permeating sourness that permeated every crevice of every morsel in the dish. The ancho-chile lime butter was poorly executed. The sickly looking chimichurri was completely flavorless. Friend got the Aussie lamb rack. Wild mushroom risotto was not wild, with the risotto suffering from being overcooked. The rosemary demi-glace was non-existent. The burnt ends in the mac and cheese had a great smokiness but entirely lacked in a nice crust. I thought the lamb was pretty good, no complaints there. Lobster tail was undoubtedly not fresh and was extraordinarily fishy. The chef's blend of wild mushrooms looked very domesticated, consisting entirely of button, portobello and oyster mushrooms. This place is designed for per-diem or expensive account-carrying egos that need a massage. All in all, insultingly bad. Cannot recommend to anyone. read more

I had a reservation 12/10/22. I was in from Chicago and having a 40th birthday get together for a nice dinner for 9 people, before the boxing match next door. I received a call at 4:40 pm, 20 minutes before my reservation, informing me that their kitchen was flooded and that they would be unable to open and keep my reservation. Now, I understand unforeseen things can happen. I asked to speak with the manager, and I asked him why they waited until 20 minutes before my reservation to let me know. He said this has happened before and they were hoping to get it resolved and open on time. However, the problem occurred at 11 am. It is absolutely ridiculous that they could have called me any time after 11 am to let me know there was a chance that they may not be able to open that evening, so I could start working on a plan B. As it happened, everyone was already almost there and every restaurant was packed, due to the boxing match. The one star is for how inconsiderate they were, having the opportunity to prepare people 6 hours earlier, but waiting until 20 minutes before my reservation. Also he didn't voluntarily offer any sort of compensation. The bar was open and the least he could have done was give us a round on the house. We ended up finding a Mexican restaurant a block away - not quite the 40th birthday dinner I was hoping for. Hopefully this review will prompt more appropriate action next time they are faced with a similar situation. read more

The food was spectacular here and the environment great. I had the cheeseburger and my fiancé had the sirloin. The steak was seasoned very well and had a lot of flavor to it! The cheeseburger was also very flavorful, but I really wish I would have went with the steak. They had COVID guidelines so we couldn't sit together, which was a big bummer but understandable. A little late with this review but better late than never right? Anniversary dinner for the wife and I so we decided to try a brand new restaurant. I'm highly upset it took me this long to come here. The decor, the service, the atmosphere, and most importantly the food was nothing short of spectacular. For appetizers we started with the Shrimp Durango, Lobster Tails, and Oysters. One word to describe each dish...PERFECT! Fresh seafood and great mixture of ingredients. The also give you fresh bread to start off with (great pairing with the Shrimp Durango so sop up the juices lol). For dinner I went with the bone in rib-eye cowboy cut, with the sides of creamed corn and au gratin potatoes. One of the best steaks I've ever had. Melted in my mouth at every bite. The sides were different and great. Really loved the smokey bacon taste with the corn. The potatoes were tender and full of flavor. My wife did the prix fixe mittens and had the 6 oz filet, asparagus, and mashed potatoes. She loved every bite and couldn't stop talking about how tender the steak was. On to dessert which idk how we even made it that far without passing out. We had the Creme Brûlée and the Carrot Cake. No words honestly the Carrot Cake was HUGE and the burst of flavor was even better. My mouth is watering thinking about every piece of that cake. The Creme Brûlée was cooked perfectly. Service is one of the most important quality of a restaurant especially of this quality and they had an excellent waiter that night. You have your standard American steak house but did do a good job on seafood. The salmon was cooked better than Plank. Flavor hit the spot especially the mushrooms on the side. Not an oyster person but their appetizer made me want seconds. My medium rare filet mignon was more medium. The seared scallops were delightful. For someone who doesn't use salt, all the dishes were too salty unfortunately. I'm sure I could have requested a change. We had the lobster Mac on the side.. that was disappointing. I made the reservation for 8pm...received a call from a staff member at 6:55 letting me know they were closing at 8 pm and if we could get there in the next 30 minutes. We couldn't make it there in time so I was not happy. Not sure why I didn't receive a notice at least a few hours before 8pm? Just really disappointed in the approach and I understand that they probably didn't have much traffic at 8 pm on a Monday but at least let me know a few hours before..is that too much to ask? We came to J Gilbert's for a friends birthday, group of 6. 2 of us arrived first and our waitress greeted us very monotony, and brought us the drinks we ordered; we didn't get any bread until asking for it. She asked if i wanted another pineapple martini, I said no, and she took my drink that still had the fruit and a small amount of drink left, without asking if I was finished. My friends house side salad literally had no dressing on it so she had to wait for the server to bring some after 10 minutes. Another person in our group ordered a filet mignon, cooked medium well, and when she received her meal it was medium rare, so she asked if she could have a new one that's cooked as she ordered (medium well) and the waitress literally had her scoop the cut up filet onto a plate and she took it back, and brought back the SAME chunks of cut up filet within a minute, assuming it was just microwaved. For a fine dining restaurant, I was shocked. The waitress had a very awkward interaction with us, not very friendly, didn't ask if we had been to the restaurant before, didn't make any recommendations or any conversation. When my friend asked if they do anything for birthdays she gave a stern "no". The food was fantastic, - 9/10 and I would come again for sure, , but this server was awful, and did not treat us how we expected to be treated, not sure if it's because we are all in our early twenties and she was discriminating against our age or what.
