This review is for the cafe and bakery. The cafe not bad for what it is, The food there is pretty good. I've ordered the stewed pork/beef ( i forget which it is) pretty tender and it comes with side dishes and a drink i believe. The servers are nice and the price is decent. I would give it a 3 stars. For the bakery I give 0 stars. It is that terrible, which is surprising they are connected. The service is horrible, and slow. The people behind that cash register literally are not pleased to serve you and will probably give you condescending looks or just act like they don't care. Most of the time they dont' understand anyways. The cakes i've had have all been dry and flavorless, and so are their pastries. I got this green onion roll thing, and a flat pastry with sesame seeds, a cinnamon roll, tea boiled eggs etc. The green onion roll, and the pastry were just..very chewy and hard. Not soft and flaky like I am use to. The eggs were gross and sweet and CHEWY. I grew up on these, and I don't know how they could ruin it. The only way I can thin they are chewy is if they've been sitting out for a while, maybe coz no one buys them. Anyways the cinnamon roll, i dont' even know how to describe it. Its not that sweet, but it has almost no cinnamon flavor. I would describe it like one was eating a mix between their croissant and bread, except it is not flaky, and on the bottom of it was just soggy oil. The oil you could see it accumulating on the bottom because there is just a ring of..oil. When you bite into it the oil splurts in your mouth it is so gross. I've been here multiple times because i always feel like you should give places a chance but..I think I won't come here again. ever. read more

I love the cakes from JJ Bakery. Specially their vanilla cake with strawberry filling. The green tea tiramisu is also a favorite. What I really like is that the cakes here are light, I do not feel heavy after eating it and they are not overly sweet. I brought a cake from JJ to a party and it was a hit. read more

For the bakery, not cafe: Very inexpensive pastries that are fairly light. I usually feel out of place when I buy 1 or 2... everyone seems to stock up at this place. Am okay with this place because of the service they provide. You would think an asian bakery would speak chinese. My wife was trying to order the food she wants but she only knows the name in chinese. the bakery is actually pretty good which is why am giving them a 4 start instead of 3 star. the quality of the bakery here is better than most jj bakery. for me, the appearance, size of the bakery, and freshness makes a difference when i decided which bakery to buy from. this bakery is the spot i will return for more. just remember to bring your Chinese to English translator dictionary when you visit this spot. I had a taro cake somewhere in Rowland Height and it was the best Taro cake I've ever eaten. since Rowland Height was too far from where I lived so I asked my friend for the closest (location and taste) bakery that sells Taro cake. She referred me to JJ Bakery. I ordered a quarter sheet Taro cake from JJ Bakery for my coworker's birthday and it was a huge disappointment. Taro was only in middle section of the cake and the pound cake was kind of dry. The one in Rowland Height had actual Taro chunks in its filling, which made it very yummy. read more

Don't order the Black Forest cake! They just put cherries on top of a chocolate cake and call it "Black Forest" but it tastes nothing like it. Their mocha cake is good but I'm hesitant to try anything else. Beware when ordering birthday cakes. We ordered birthday cake to pick up an hour before a birthday. First they couldn't "find" the cake. Then it was somewhere "in the back". When brought out the frosting was wrong and the fruit on top was wrong. Was not at all ready and didn't have any writing on it. They pulled a stock cake out of the back and tried to play it off as the cake we ordered. RUINED my son's birthday cake. He refused to eat it. Made us late to the birthday party because took 20 minutes to deal with this mess and finally had to take the cake so there would be something for the children. LAST time we will be going there. Previous experience had been very good, but nobody taking account and just an "oh well, sorry" attitude. Look somewhere else for a birthday cake. read more

Horrible experience. I walked in for a quick bite and the customer service was just rude. The self service coffee station is filled with cheap coffee cup material and the lid doesn't fit the cups at all... Upon picking up the cup it just spilled all over my feet. After five mins, A lady finally gave me her attention and said she will clean up the mess. I thought that was nice gesture and decided to buy some bakery items. Fast forward, I reach the cashier and to my surprise she charged me for the spilled coffee. She did not care and refilling the cup was equivalent of buying another coffee. I did not want to argue with her because my foot was burning. I left the shop disappointed and I will never return. They only care about your money... The food is not that amazing... Great cakes for a sure success. Whenever I ask someone, "WOW, WHERE DID YOU GET THIS CAKE?" they predictably say it's from J.J Bakery. The fruit filling is a nice touch. I almost chose one last year but they said it would be about $50 for a cake that serves 2 dozen people. Less 1 star for price; I had to move on without ordering the cake. But if someone else is treating, I am all ready with my fork poised for consumption. read more

This place is wonderful. They make pretty good birthday cake and delicious bread.I would recommend the BBQ pork bun to everyone even you don't like bread.They also make the bread has Hot dog inside.Which is pretty good too.The resturant that is next to it has some delicious foods too. Bakery review- My wife and I come here when we come to Irvine. The bakery goods are usually pretty good. They usually start running out in the afternoon, so there is not a good selection. My review reflects more customer service or the lack of. On our last visit we got inline to pay 4 customers in front of us. One of the customers came in and purchased a ready-made cake from the display. Then she wanted something written on it. They took the cake aside and went to get the baker. Next customer had pre-ordered his cake, he pays for it. He then looks at the cake and his order is not complete, it is missing the writing he had requested. He has to fight with them and prove he had requested the writing. All this is going on the cashier is not ringing anyone up. We stood in-line for over 5 minutes. Watching all this, because the cashier would not take care of the other customers. I understand the initially the cashier was involved, but once the baker came out. His part was done and he should have just taken care of the other customers standing in-line. The baker should have taken the cakes to the back to fix them. Instead she fixed them on the check-out counter. To tell you the truth I felt sorry for the cake buyers. They received a bad fix for their problems. Results Bad customer service. They just don't care. I also tried the link to the website for JJ's Bakery listed in Yelp. They do not even list this bakery, wonder why...?? read more

A perfect place to wind down after shopping at 99 Ranch in the plaza. I enjoy having a meal (I have always like the fried rice with Taiwanese sausage) and sipping my soup to the ambiance of the music, especially since its been quieter since 85 C opened. As for the bakery side, it is absolutely splendid. They are good for birthday cakes and stops for bread. The only downside is the minimum payment needed to use a credit card. Service is cordial on the bakery side, and acceptable on the sit down side. Not that you'll find flirtatious staff, but more cordial. Best parts- the decor (love the chef paintings) and ambiance, especially on a slower day. read more

Would not recommend: I recently ordered a cake for my daughter's birthday. The pirce listd for chocalate cake was $24 but they charged additional $10 for a layer, $8 for toy and eventually end of paying $42. o man, i hate to give only two stars to one of my favorite baked goodies stores, but i am really frustrated...angry. yes, i am angry (it cost me a lot to say this so hear me out). all the way from jj to my work, i was debating how many stars for this most unpleasant bakery. first off, the parking situation here is really bad, especially lunch and dinner time. i hate (hate using this word) nothing more than ppl lounging outside of their cars knowing others are waiting for the precious space. so i drove around and waited for ten min just to park right outside of the store, cursing those ppl. however, as soon and i laid my eyes on the sponge cake, my anger seemed to melt away until it was time to pay. my first thought: do ppl here not know how to speak? my second thought: no, bc i hear them speaking in mandarin to each other. from then on, no logical thinking process...just passionate feelings!!! can't they at least say simple "hello" and "thank you"? what is wrong with these ppl? why am i not treated as a valued customer? sh*t...i am never coming back!!! well, the saddest truth is i will be coming back since they make the best sponge cakes (therefore two stars) in irvine. read more

This review is for the cafe side where you can order food and drinks. I've been coming here for years and while the food is not spectacular (standard Taiwanese items), tonight's visit was definitely far worse than any other visit. We ordered the fried chicken combo and shrimp fried rice, along with two boba drinks. After paying and waiting for about 10 minutes, a lady that was sitting at one of the tables rushed to the back (kitchen). I thought she was just a patron doing business with her other people, but apparently tonight she's also the cook. So now we're waiting again, and a worker comes out and starts mopping the floor. It was around 5pm and the place said it doesn't close until 9pm, there's NO reason to be mopping the floor while customers are trying to eat. The overwhelming chemical smell of Lysol filled the entire restaurant, almost to the point I was losing my appetite. The food finally arrives, and it was not worth the wait. These simple items were just downright sub-par. Huge waste of money and time. Their boba milk tea tasted like they forgot to add any sweetener. My guess is this place changed ownership because the menu looked different than I remember. JJ Bakery Cafe - it's been a good run but all good things must come to an end.
