I love the ice cream here! There is always a great variety of flavors and the ice cream really is delicious. I got the thin mint and my friend got the oreo cheesecake, both were flavors of the month (March). I think the portions and price are pretty much on par with other homemade ice cream shops in the area. A word of warning though, this location is quite the high school hangout on a Friday night. It was really loud and filled with teenagers. The turnaround on seating is pretty quick though so there is generally not a big problem getting a table. read more

JP Licks is a Boston favorite, and it's good. I gave it 4 stars because I prefer some of the smaller more old fashioned ice cream shops better. The people working here have always been friendly and helpful when ordering. They have some outside seating which is nice in the summer time. It can get busy here, especially after a movie gets outs (there is a movie theater in Legacy Place). The parking can be difficult at Legacy, the good thing about JP's is if you park in the garage you can walk downstairs and be right near JP's. They have a pretty good warm apple cider for the fall and winter. read more

Extremely rude employee. My daughters and I came here the first time for ice cream. We each asked to sample a flavor we thought we would want. One of my daughters didn't like the flavor she initially picked, and asked to try a different flavor instead. The rude lady said nastily "three samples only." I was appalled. I asked if it's three per person or three per group; and she said per group. I have 4 people in my group. It doesn't even make sense. At $5.45 per small scoop, you can afford to give more samples. Overall, just a very unpleasant experience and I would say borderline racist, too. I love JP Licks and have gone to many locations. This location has the rudest employees. A few friends and I went there one night after dinner around 10pm. We were told we couldn't sit for long because they were about to close, but their hours say they are open until 11. I ordered first with a friend and we sat down. The others in our group weren't even done ordering and we were told we needed to leave because they were closing. Other groups sitting were told the same and when one woman asked why they were closing early, the employee said, "we aren't". But...your business hours say you're open another hour... I had a free ice cream on my Cow Card and when I tried to pay with it, the girl said, "you don't have a free ice cream," and stared at me. I said I did and showed her my account on my phone. She ran it again and it worked, and she said nothing with a scowl on her face. She didn't even hand me a receipt or say anything. Just walked away. I have been going to JP Licks for about 20 years. It was a tradition for my friends and I to go to their Newbury Street location after school in the late 1990s. I am so glad there is one so close to my house. It is well staffed. You are in and out quickly with your delicious ice cream or whatever treat you get. I had the peanut butter soft serve with jimmies. Beyond AMAZING!!! They also offer Cow Paws a dog friendly frozen treat. JP licks will have your licking your lips for more yummies and you will want to go back! This is just a cool place! (no pun intended) read more

For the past 3 years my husband has gotten my birthday cake at JP Licks in Dedham. This year they royally screwed up the order and I ended up with a cake I didn't like much (wrong flavors, wrong and very messy design, and no oreo crust as ordered). My husband contacted JP Licks about the issue and no one ever got back in touch with him. Talk about horrible service. I recommend that others take their special occasion orders elsewhere, particularly to an establishment that pays attention to orders, appreciates loyal customers and is quick to resolve an issue. Sadly, JP Licks has (in my opinion) gone downhill a little in the past few years. The flavors are plenty, with specials every month- fresh cucumber being my favorite in the summertime. A little on the pricey side, but I always thought it was worth it until the service became increasingly and regularly bad. I became a fan of JP Licks when I was in college and would often go to the location on Newbury Street. Since I rarely go to the city, it's been a while since I've been into JP Licks and I was happy to see that a location had opened up at Legacy Place in Dedham. The line can look intimidatingly long, but usually moves quickly. The variety of ice creams, frozen yogurts, and sherbets is wonderful. They also have a large variety of candy, fruit, and nut mix-ins if you so desire. There is truly something for everyone. They also serve cupcakes and coffee drinks. While we have encountered some sticky tables, everything is pretty neat and clean for the most part. The ice cream is delicious..creamy and satisfying. This is homemade ice cream not the stuff you get at Cold Stone (Don't get me wrong, I like Cold Stone, but it's not as wholesome as this) We have a hard time passing up a scoop after seeing a movie here. Had the most disturbing experience. A mother bought her son ice cream and sat down to eat. The mother had a salad with her and proceeded to eat her salad. A female employee walked over to her and kicked her out cause she could not bring in outside food even through her son(probably 4 years old) was eating his ice cream. It was 60 degrees and the place had many open tables. Pretty insensitive and with no compassion kicked them out. To top it off. There was a line of people waiting to be served. The male employee was scooping ice cream and doing the cash register. The same un-compassionate employee and another female employee looked at their fellow employee and both went the the back room and abandoned him. JP Licks May have ok ice cream but do I want to go to this place to watch ethical behavior. Is this how J.P. Lick trains their employee to behavior? We do not need this behavior in today's world. I often stop by J.P. Licks for coffee before work. They roast their own and it is quite tasty. Even better than the coffee is their homemade ice cream. Tons of delicious flavors that rotate seasonally. The ice cream is clearly marked with allergen information, which I always appreciate in a restaurant. If I'm in the area and craving a milkshake (which happens quite a bit), J.P. Licks is my obvious choice. In this particular location, in Legacy Place, the service can be hit or miss, which is why I chose to dock one star. There is usually only one, maybe two, employees behind the counter. Often it's not a problem, but if you are in a rush for your morning cup of joe, it can be frustrating to wait. In the afternoons, the lines can get huge and there's almost always a long wait. Regardless of this little hiccup, I love J.P. Licks and will continue to frequent this location and others! read more

The JP Licks at the Legacy place is open till midnight everyday and the staff is really friendly and nice. JP Licks have some of the best every-day flavors and they have Specials all the time. I went this week and saw a promo they have from 10pm to midnight each night, its Buy One Get One Free - cup, pint, etc!!! They're also featuring some awesome fall flavors now like caramel apple and Apple Crisp. The Apple Crisp is delicious. The ice cream is creamy and it tasted just like an apple crisp but cold.
