I'm really undecided. The flavor of ice cream I've had is good, borderline great. However, the price and the length of service doesn't satisfy what I am accustomed to at neighborhood ice cream shops. After eating at Yardhouse or PF Changs, my party always stops here. They always are happy to pay $4 for a huge chunk of ice cream that melts within minutes. To me, it's a waste of money. Best ice cream in metro Boston (you can find much better ice cream out in the burbs though). There's often a fairly long line here, but the staff move the line along quickly and they do it with a smile. The oreo ice cream is fantastic, as is the black raspberry. I always get mine in a waffle cone...ice cream is just more fun in a cone. Only drawbacks to this establishment is a tight seating area, which often has sticky tables. But I can tolerate that for a great ice cream cone after a movie at the next door cinema. read more

This is my favorite Jp licks store to visit other than the assembly square location. It's located in the middle of the mall but parking is easy to find. I've been there several times and I've never had a problem finding a space close to the store. We've never had a problem finding seating but it does get more crowded at night time. I love sitting by the window and looking at outdoor mall while I eat. The atmosphere is nice. Portion sizes aren't huge but I have yet to get stiffed at this location like I do at some of their others. I'll probably visit a little less now that their prices just went up by 50 cents but be assured that you're getting good tasting, high quality ice cream. I recommend any flavors that has cookies in it, especially cookies and cream and cookies and cake batter. read more

Went yesterday at 8:30pm to get a frappe and was told they are no longer doing them, I was very confused considering it closed at 10pm. Thought I'd order just a coffee but was told they also weren't doing that. I understand if I went in a little before it was closed because of clean up with certain machines. But I was there 1.5 hours before it closed. Ended up walking across the way to shake shack for a shake even though they closed at 9, they had no problem making it for me. read more

I think this is decent ice cream but not great so its getting 3 stars. I would ideally give it 3.5 but do not think it deserves to be bummed up to 4 stars. We have been here 5-6 times and every time I leave not quite satisfied. I always try a few different flavors and then get one because I don't want to annoy the service people by trying any more. I like frappes because I tent to get ice cream at the end of my trip and like to drink it on the way home. Most of the flavors that I like end up not working out well in the frappe. I tried mint chip which is normally one of my favorite shake flavors and it just didn't work well. Good not great. I came here for a quick dessert after dinner. This place is forever busy which isn't a bad thing. The 3 stars are because I've never been impressed with any of their menu items. I am a 74 year old man...It was 9:35 PM last night...My sweetheart turned to me and said, "I really want want a JP Licks 'Tart-X' frozen yogurt cone...How late is the Legacy Mall store open???" I quickly went on-line on my iPhone6+ to see if JP Licks at Legacy Mall was open until 10, 10:30, or even 11PM (as it is at Assembly Mall)...It clearly stated it was open 'till 10:30pm... I turned back to my sweetheart and said, "Don't worry, Sweetie -- We'll get you your frozen yogurt -- We have plenty of time before they close..." We live 30 minutes away, so we left immediately and raced over there... We got there at 10:03pm...AND IT WAS LOCKED UP !!!!! There were still customers seated and eating their various ice cream selections and workers behind the counter... I knocked on the door...The person that all the workers looked at yelled back, "We're closed...", and turned her back on me... I knocked again, held my phone up to the glass door, and yelled back, "It says you're open 'till 10:30PM !!!" I beckoned her over to the door, holding my phone up to the door again...She just shook her head and yelled, "We close at 10PM...It says so on the door"...I yelled back, "Your website says you open 'till 10:30"...She turned her back and didn't respond again. I started taking pictures of the shop, of her, and of the other workers in the shop thru the glass door. The manager-woman again yelled, "We're closed...Stop taking our picture...It's illegal..." I held up my phone again, an again beckoned her to the door...She again turned her back on me, so I again started taking pictures... Unbeknownst to me, one of the young, male workers had slipped out a side door, and was suddenly standing partially behind me and to my left, holding a long, 1.5-inch in diameter wooden stick, and yelled at me, "STOP TAKING OUR PICTURES..." I looked him right in the eye and said, "Why should I...I drove 30 minutes to get hear before 10:30...Your web site right here says your open 'till 10:30...We got here at 10:03...All we want is 2 Tart-X frozen yogurts???" What a nice addition to now filled Legacy Place which does not have any type of dessert place to be seen. Although this location is a bit cramped quarters, it is exactly like the other locations with a similar decor and menu. The ice cream concoctions are excellent and delicious. This Boston classic is such an excellent addition to Legacy Place! A favorite nice-weather pastime of mine is walking around with a nice cone or cup of some ice cream, and I can do just that at Legacy. Ordered Chocolate ice cream with hot fudge and peanut butter sauces. Excellent portion size (a small cup got a heaping scoop plus more. And it was weighed, so they definitely consistently give this size!) and delicious texture and flavor! The hot fudge kinda clammed up and was hard to keep evenly distributed, but it still tasted good. I really prefer when hot fudge stays velvety smooth. My ice cream could have used more of the delicious peanut butter sauce (melted peanut butter, I bet!), so maybe next time I'll have to ask for some more. The scoopers are friendly and quick, but without being fake-friendly. They offer samples if you are torn between flavors. There can be a line sometimes, but the scoopers are efficient and the line moves along! Some reviews have mentioned the strong, sugary smell of this JP Licks, and to offer a different perspective on this smell: it smells like excellent ice cream has been made! Go here! Yum! read more

JPL is like the B&J of MA - a ton of cool flavors (with cool flavor names) and kind of expensive. Went the other day for "girl talk" with my bestie, the place is immaculate! GREAT little ice cream spot and very organized. We placed our orders with chipper young ladies, grabbed a seat, and chilled out with our frozen deliciousness. *Cool "local" flavor names: Batter Up! (so good), Noodle Kugel (...with egg noodles?), Peanut Butter Beckett Cup (such a sweetie!), Youk's Manischewitz Sorbet, Papelbon Pineapple Sherbet, etc (....awesome). Hard Ice Cream, Low-Fat Yogurt, Fat-Free Yogurt, lactose-free options....they've got something for everyone! Fortunately I didn't get the Ice Cream Scooper Sneer when I asked to sample several flavors (hard to narrow it down!). My choice: fat-free soft serve yogurt (peppermint and peanut butter...surprisingly delicious combo). *If you're an ice cream person who's going out to grab a cone with a non-ice cream person (I know...I was shocked to hear of their existence, too), it's all good! JPL has smoothies, coffee, cupcakes, and pies. Not to mention: frappes, "moolattes," etc. *Cool tables shaped like "cow spots" are conveniently sized, quirky, and conversation starters. *USDA Organic, Fair Trade Certified, "Home Made".....you had me at "Lick." *Price for a small (1 scoop - but with two flavors): ~4$ It's local, it's a decent size, and it's a cool location (with great friendly service)....I don't mind. *Tons of locations!!! I have been coming to the dedham jp licks since the day it opened. tonight as i was standing in the line with my friends a young girl working accused us of knocking over a sign. after we told her we did not do that, because why would i have any reason to knock that sign over, she proceeded to tell us to pick it up. she also came back to sass my friends and i yet again sass us. i am appalled at the unprofessional and completely rude worker. she then charged my friend for a small ice cream after she told her she got a kiddie and LAUGHED IN HER FACE. i am extremely disappointed in the unprofessional and completely inappropriate actions of this jp licks employee. read more

I'm sorry to say but this is the worst JP Licks location. They are always out of favors on the soft frozen yogurt. I've never seen more than 3 available even though the list on the board has several. They are always out of some kind of topping too, peanut butter or fudge, etc. the other night they were out of every kind of cone except one type (waffle). I've gone several times over the last several months hoping it was a fluke, but I give up. The service also is horrible. It's a bunch of teens and young adults who don't give a crap. Plenty of seating in the shop. Offers the same menu as most other JP licks. Good service, the workers know the menu and deliver the products at an efficient speed. Why do I keep giving JP licks a chance? My mom was craving ice cream and due to it being a holiday I wanted to make sure JP Licks was open before driving all the way to Legacy which is a distance from where I live. The guy that answered was rude and very short. He told me all the information is online before just hanging up on me. Really? I had no idea. This is a great dessert place to grab some sweets while you're shopping at Legacy Place. The cake batter Oreo ice cream is divine and worth every penny. If you top it with the mini Reeses peanut butter cups, it is nothing short of divine! It does get very busy and sometimes the menu boards can be hard to read if you're not average height (or maybe it's just me). Ended up here again last night with my husband and puppy. The place was packed since it was so nice out. The service was awful again! The employees were all just chatting with eachother instead of helping the customers. They were out of the Cow Paws dog ice cream. The ice cream was put in my cone so carelessly that almost half of it fell out almost immediately. In the 10 minutes that we were there, we heard "I just want all these people to leave so we can go home" at least five times. This was an hour before they closed. They get 5 stars for customer service. The general manager, Greg, is a super guy. I called the week before, ordered an ice cream cake for my 7 year-old son, and inquired as to whether they'd be enough seats available for our party of 10 to sit and enjoy it. Although he could have said, "Sorry lady, we don't do that," dude reserved the space for us, and treated us like we were royalty, even making sure the staff was aware we were having a birthday celebration. I went in for a few different pints. I started "can I have a pint of cookies and cream..." the worker cut me off and said "all pints are in the freezer." So I went to the freezer and grabbed cookies and cream. They didn't have pistachio in the freezer. I went to the cashier and asked "do they not have pistachio at this location?" The cashier says the guy "can scoop that for you." I said he told me the pints are all in the freezer. The cashier said "Did you specifically ASK for the pistachio?". No I didn't because he rudely cut me off and told me to move on. So I get back in line and ask for the pint. So then the young guy with longer hair starts scooping my ice cream, and a young female employee with dark short hair rests her head on his shoulder and nuzzled her mouth against his neck and the entire time he was scooping my ice cream she had her mouth/face in the guys neck nuzzling and whispering to him while he giggled. It was the single weirdest most uncomfortable experience I've had in food service in my life. I don't enjoy feeling like a voyeur while I'm just getting freaking ice cream. Creepy and gross. The ice cream Is delicious but the the customer service is horrific here. I was standing there like what the hell is happening right now? Take the drive to Boston and get the good stuff instead. read more

LACTOSE FREE OPTIONS!! Anywhere I am able to get ice cream is a victory. I love the different choices, all lactose free options have been great!
