Stayed there recently, would highly recommend ! The front desk clerks, especially Heather, were very helpful and polite, lots of security in the casino, that was a big plus. Stayed in the Aspen tower, new rooms, very tastefully decorated and very nice, I was pleasantly surprised ! Just a short walk to downtown, we dined at both the Buffet, and Hannahs, both had excellent food. The resort is still under some construction, so the noise in the morning surprised us, but wasn't that bad, I understand they only work during the week, not on weekends. Being a Nevada local, after staying at a few other places, I would pick this the best place to stay and play. read more

Want to give a shout out to three members of the security staff: Eric, Fred and Ed. Eric is always courteous and helpful. Fred and Ed were the only two guards that were able to find a lost cell phone left at Gold Dust West for a week. I was privileged enough to meet MJ and was so impressed with this amazing man. They have done a wonderful job remodeling and updating this property. Yes, it's new and improved. The most impressive portion of the improvement is the excellent staff! Everyone is kind and friendly. It Pays to Play at The J.... Just returned from the J. They always give me fantastic comps. I come down from N Oregon every 3 months or so to meet my HS Buddys I've known for almost 50 yrs. Had a food comp for J Pauls Steakhouse, but was unable to use it due to rain, and hail damage. The casino host gladly gave me a room credit . The rebranding and remodeling results are fantastic! The exterior looks great! Better color scheme, newer, fresher, more modern and appealing. I would also say the same for the casino floor. I also dined at the new steakhouse, J Paul's. Phenomenal restaurant! I would say it is already in the top three of steakhouses in the Reno area. Yes, it was that good! And I know steakhouses. This was our first time staying at the J Resort after it was remodeled from what was previously known as the Sands. The workers there are informative and knowledgeable. The casino interior and lay out reminds me of a mini Aria from Las Vegas. Clean and looks good! (When I mean mini, think like 1/15th casino floor and maybe 300-400 rooms versus 4000. ) It looks really nice. The payout is tight and not much of a good promotion. . And the floor only have 5 common table games. But overall its good. The rooms are really pretty tho as they have large bathroom, mini kitchen and modern appliances. Other than that. A refund would be great crab legs were frozen still with ice on them. Prime rib was salty as hell. Couple people were disappointed in the buffet. Great new and clean resort. There is a restaurant that seems to be open 24 hours Hannahs (a bit inconsistent service), but when its great it is exceptional. A snack bar that has plenty to choose for pastries donuts and deinks on the run. The table games are non smoking which is a plus for me. Shout out to Cisco for great service at the table games. As for the Negative the dealers keep there tips, and they some are obnoxious to say the least. They talk about tips constantly and if you don't give them tips (or if it isnt enough) they will let you know. Imo tips are a reflection of the service. It doesn't make it for fun at the tables especially when they have only 1 table open as there is not enough people that come to this casino. Negative is the sportsbook is small if really anything at all and it closes at 5pm. read more

No convenience store, the vending machines on all floors were out of service I needed some water I was told to go to the bar and to my surprise no one working I ended up asking a janitor to help me get some from behind. 2. No rewards for new members on top of that slots machines are super tight somehow they want you to pay for their renovations 3 elevators out of service .. really on a busy nite you think is ok to take people through your service/staff elevator.? A great stay in the refurbished Sands. Rooms were spacious and clean. Couldn't get the Chromecast to work on the TV, finally called the front desk and found out it was disabled. I would definitely stay here again, the only reason for the Four Star review was that the staff didn't know where anything was. Like the gym, the pool (which is off site apparently). Three of us ate at J Paul's. Most of the food was good, the Linguini got sent back , it had five tiny manilla clams in it. Really! Side of spaghetti was way over cooked, in no way al dente. The other items we ordered like the ribeye and foie gras were very good. My wife's salad was incredibly small for the price, but tasted good. The waiter made good on the pasta dishes, but at that price let's do it right the first time. Don't bother with the the chocolate After-Dinner Cigar dessert. You'll get immediate diabetes. Way too sweet, just the taste of sugar. The deconstructed Tiramisu was lame. They need to get rid of both those desserts and stick with traditional Italian sweets. With the liquor, the bill came to $500. Was it worth it? Not really. read more

Nice room but you get what you pay for. Never have I ever stayed at a "resort" that didn't provide a microwave in room. 1. The water from the faucets are scalding hot and messed up. 2. The door on the shower was crooked and couldn't be closed. 3. No safety bars in the shower. 4. The temp in the room was impossible to regulate. 5. The restaurant in the hotel did not get our order right, had to keep asking for things we ordered. 6. Never have I stayed at a hotel that does NOT service the room. But this turned out to be a good weekend bc it was a family weekend. read more

All beautiful rooms. 1st room the whole hallway smelled like paint thinner, we understand they are under construction. It's a beautiful hotel. 2nd room- the refrigerator was loud froze our food, and we had a buzzing noise from another machine on the ceiling which the engineer could not fix so we moved. 3rd room- room 1528 Birch has a loud vent in the bathroom. The engineer said there's nothing they could do about the noise. The manager compensated us, we appreciated their help. The best part of our experience is the room. Bed, pillows, sheets are all great! The room fridge is par to other hotels. The surroundings are ample and clean. My only disappointment was the hotel buffet. For the price, it was a disaster! The crab was advertised but nowhere to be found. And to advertise that they are the only buffet in town, you would expect them to be good but not the case. Total let down. Didn't have a chance to try the other hotel restaurant but if the buffet is an indication, I'd rather not. read more

Stayed the night here on 8/30-8/31, I reserved 2 double queen bed rooms a month in advance. We got there early and luckily was able to get an early check in on one of the rooms but the second wasn't ready and was told to come back closer to check in time which is 3. We went back at 3 and the room still wasn't ready left and came back again 2hrs later and still wasn't ready. The rooms were supposed to be next to each other but we had to settle for a few doors down since they were behind on cleaning. When we got in the second room it was really dark and the bed cover had very visible stains. I tried calling housekeeping and got no answer. The casino was pretty lack luster at one point we had a $20 get taken by one of the games and not register so we had to sit there for about 15-20 mins till they figured out what went wrong. We got free buffet vouchers but were unable to use them since they don't open till 4pm and we had a game to go to but when we came back they were already closed. A all day buffet would have been great. We went to Hannah's table for lunch and dinner and the food was great but service was pretty slow. The next morning I went to get coffee from Hannah's express and for one medium black coffee, and three small caramel macchiatos it was over $30. Way too expensive for a couple of mediocre coffees. I could've had better ones at a real Starbucks. Overall the place was ok but for a few extra bucks I would stay at GSR or Peppermill read more

The room was beautiful. We did have to call down to get our champagne and strawberries that was supposed to be in the room but it was delivered quickly and from a very nice lady. There was some dusting that was lacking and the mirrors and windows were very dirty but all in all the room was amazing. A little note, the room is very dark and needs more lighting. This is solely for the Sofi Tukker event on 4/20. The event planners failed. In the general admission area there were approximately 15 porta potties and only 4 drink stands with hundreds of people. So, the majority of the time was spent standing in lines. This event was supposed to be held at the Glow Plaza which is a nicer area, but instead was in a parking lot. I had stayed one night and it was $137 and I was told I would get my $100 back for the deposit and I was charged $37 when I checked out and today the $100 is pending on my checking account. Other then that the room and the hotel is very clean but there is not a lot of places to eat the store inside the hotel shuts down early and opens up at 9 in the morning.
