    Omu-rice with beef and curry
    Jordan A.

I initially came here because I wanted a Japanese sando, but when I saw that they had very affordable Omu-rice I changed my mind. I got one that had 3 slices of beef with their infamous curry on the side. The dish was delicious, but I couldn't tell if it was the egg or the rice underneath but something was a little salty. Very chill and casual place to just get something quick and easy. No frills.

Love the Gyukatsu here (beef cutlet). Things you should know: I. SERVICE Ordering is simple ~ you do it all at the kiosk. When your food is ready, it'll be served at the designated counter II. QUALITY Excellent. This place serves authenticity like various dishes we've had in Japan. III. CAPACITY Fair amount of available seating inside during weekday at lunch hours. This place seems to predominantly cater to-go orders.

Authentic Japanese food in a small shop. My partner and I shared Pork loin cutlet Curry and a chicken cutlet sandwich. We also ordered a gyudon, and although it was slightly smaller portion than I expected, it happened to be the perfect amount for a serving. It reminded me a lot of the gyudon we had at one of Tokyo's Yoshinoya's, if that says anything. Service is quite hands-off and no frills. You can order via kiosk, so you other than having staff call you when your order is ready, there's not much interaction. There are a few long tables/high stools for seating. There is also wifi available and USB outlets on the table. I do wish there was a water station, but that aside, it's a good spot whether you want to do a quick dine-in or get takeout from here. I would not recommend for vegetarians as I didn't see any vegetarian-friendly options here, but if you're into beef and/or chicken, many options for you!!!

Beef Tongue Stew with a Pork Cutlet

Was walking by and felt a bit peckish so I stopped by for lunch and got the Beef Tongue Stew with a Pork Cutlet. The beef stew was standard but tasty and the beef tongue was good, with nice texture and chew to it. I do wish there were a few more pieces of it though, a bit sparse on the meat. The pork cutlet was freshly fried so that was a plus! The outside was crispy and the inside was juicy and fatty with a good pork flavor to it. It could do with more salt and pepper for sure, but otherwise done pretty well. Good spot to get a quick bite to eat, and they offer lunch specials as well for those hankering for a deal

Nice clean space to grab a lunch special! I was very happy with my Tofu Don bowl! I can tell they prepare foods well! So I will be back to try more menu items! I spent under 14 dollars! And left very satisfied! I do wish I had chili oil or maybe soy sauce, but it was a great lunch! They speak Japanese so you can practice your ordering here!

It was a very wet cold Sunday afternoon we came for lunch. It was quiet so we were able to walk to the order kiosk and place our orders. The place is simple and clean. There were so many items we want to try that it took awhile to decide. The staff were busy preparing so didn't really pay attention to us. Once we placed the order we just waited. The ingredients were unique and aim to quality of Japan cooking. Were ordered the omuri rice with roast beef and black curry, waigu burger combo and the potato Sando. We waited for about 15 minutes before we got our food. Part of food was to dine in and partly is to take out. The packaging were nice and neatly packed and displayed the food. And everything tasted delicious and light. The roast beef was tender than prime ribs I have had; clean not greasy. The rice was full of flavor. Slightly disappointed with the omuri egg since it was not mixed well and look like soft scrambled instead of soft runny eggs I expected to see if you were to cut the egg open. The burger was juicy and yet not heavy. The meal was full of umami and I definitely would say high quality but slightly on the pricey side. I would definitely give it another try with the other items in the menu.

    Shake Udon w. Onsen Egg

J's Kitchen is possibly my favorite casual Japanese spot for quick meals. Everything is wonderfully cooked, from sando to don to udon. The ingredients they use are premium, and the taste very much reminds me of the food I had in Japan. *Pork Tenderloin Cutlet Sando w. Cheese*** Listen, their asakusa sando is TO DIE FOR, comparably to those in Japan! The pork katsu is so tender and coated with crispy thin breadcrumbs, while the honey mustard adds sweet tangy flavor. They use milk bread, which is nicely toasted on the crust and very pillowy on the dough. I'll 100% come back for their sando. *Roast Beef Don** They strongly recommended us this roast beef don and I'm so glad we tried. The roast beef is well seasoned with pepper. The raw beef somehow tastes like tartare. It was actually my bf's order but I kept stealing beef from his bowl. *Shake Udon w. Roast Beef & Tofu Pocket *Shake Udon w. Onsen Egg & Mentaiko Of course I can't resist but get their cold udon again. The soy sauce soup is so yummy I wish I could recreate it at home. Their udon is bouncy and holds up the sauce well especially after shaking it. If you get onsen egg as add-on, it will further thicken the sauce.

We were walking around and saw this little Japanese eatery and went in to try their stuff. I got the black curry pork katsu and my friend got the roast beef din because they said it was really popular and I would have to agree! Roast beef was tender and different from the usual. The pork katsu was good for a fast casual spot and the curry was okay. They had some tables and some stools so it's good for a quick bite!

This is a really nice Japanese eatery with a menu that is not your typical bento boxes or sushi. Service was friendly and fast. The place is on the smaller side so if you are in a large group you will be waiting for a seat (or better yet just do take out). It's a great alternative to the usual stuff.

I was looking for a new place to try katsu sandwiches, so I came to J's Kitchen with my friend for lunch. We ordered the Teritama Hamburg Steak Plate Combo ($23.50), Omurice Beef Tongue Stew ($18), and Pork Loin Cutlet Sandwich ($16). Teritama Hamburg Steak Plate Combo came with fries, salad, and miso soup. The patty was thick, but meat is a little too chewy and stringy. Overall, tastes okay. Omurice Beef Tongue Stew was good, beef tongue was tender, but there were only 4-5 small chunks of meat. Egg was cooked well, but it did not look like the pictures at all. The pork loin cutlet sandwich was filling, as the katsu was thick, and the bread held everything together well. I liked it, but I prefer a different sauce pairing and I would have liked some cabbage to add more texture and moisture to the sandwich. Owner is very friendly and our order was delivered to our table. There are 3 high tables where you seat yourself and there are signs instructing you to empty your trays after you finish eating. There are USB outlets on the table, which is nice, but there is no bathroom. Overall, would give 3.5 rating.

    AS-01. Pork Loin Cutlet Sandwich

We were looking for a fast lunch spot and opted for katsu sandos. We got the pork loin cutlet sandwich and beef cutlet sandwich. Between the two, the pork loin was definitely better. While the beef was good, it wasn't as flavorful and the beef was a bit too chewy to eat for a sandwich. The sandwiches were however very filling and I loved how soft the bread was. We checked in on Yelp for 50% off, which is a huge deal! The cashier took a picture of our faces and the Yelp check-in for her boss which was new for me but she was a very sweet lady so I didn't mind too much. I asked for a water cup but they unfortunately do not offer water so you have to purchase a drink. I think it's a nice option if you're looking for a quick, convenient lunch but probably wouldn't go out of my way to come here. There were a couple people dining in and it was almost weirdly quiet so maybe more of a grab-and-go spot.

Non-discerning viewers will likely miss that this is a Kitchen Mix-esque Japanese spot, meaning that there's one kitchen making dishes from a variety of Japanese restaurants. Or, in fancy marketing speak, this is a "curated" Japanese dining experience featuring selections from well-known Japanese food brands. So it's hit or miss depending on what you get. Miss: The Vegan Ramen I got because I was craving soup, which is normally a Japanese food staple but is woefully missing at this spot. Hit: The Roast Beef Don, which was delicate, silky and flavorful--all words I never thought I'd use to describe roast beef. Choose wisely, loyal diner. Your Japanese mileage will vary.

    Black curry with beef cutlet

Debated between this place and Hi Collar for lunch. My friend and I went to Hi Collar before so ended up choosing J's to try a new place. Also the 50% off a main for Yelp check-in is really attractive. Unfortunately the deal is not enough for me to like this place. I was most interested in the black curry before coming, so I originally wanted to order the black curry with chicken. The friendly staff said I should try something more expensive with the 50% off. I took her suggestion and got the black curry with beef cutlet. I insisted on getting black curry lol. The black curry itself was nice. It's not spicy at all. I wouldn't call it peppery as some people described it. It's savory and hearty without being too heavy. The curry has cubes of beef brisket which are lean but flavorful from sitting in the curry. It tasted better than the beef cutlet. The beef cutlet is battered and fried. Even though it came out crunchy, hot and juicy, the meat itself has issues. It's very fatty and has tendons. The meaty parts are somehow mushy and not fibrous. It was much better after dipping into the curry, but honestly I'd rather not eat this. The rice is too mushy and soft. Mixing curry with it helped a lot. My friend got the hamburger steak combo. It took longer than my curry but we didn't mind waiting. The burger patty had similar issues as my beef cutlet. It has onion slices in there but it still didn't help the mushiness fattiness. There's not much beef flavor either. In fact it was a bit gamey. The fries were better than expected. The salad came with a sesame dressing that tasted more like peanut butter. The lettuce was cut in big chunks though. The miso soup is pretty standard what you'd expect it to be - which I personally don't like. The rice here is slightly less mushy than mine but overall still too soft. The teriyaki sauce was too soy sauce heavy and tart for my liking. The environment is chill with a few high tables and chairs where you seat yourself. After eating you empty your own tray and return it to the counter. I don't mind this model. I'm still frustrated by the cons of my meal even though I got it half off. I would be more mad if I paid full price. Maybe I'd tolerate this place if I had gotten the cheaper chicken or pork options. I think the frustration isn't about the exact numerical amount but rather how the higher price point ended up with a subpar product.
