Din Tai Who? JA Jiaozi is Orange County's supreme dumpling restaurant, hands down. My wife and I found JA about 3 years ago while not wanting to deal with Din Tai's ridiculous waitlist and in 3 years we still have never been to Din together. JA is a monthly staple in our life at this point. The food and service are just the best. We recommend the steamed chicken & mushroom and the beef & onion and any of the desserts are great. Anything that sounds good to you there probably is. Jackie is one of our regular servers and he's also the greatest. We'll continue coming here for as long as we're able! read more

Drove by JA Jiaozi a number of times also thinking that it was likely a XLB place until I started reading the reviews here. The dumplings here are not the soup dumplings that you would expect at DTF but they have their own version of colorful dumplings also a bit reminiscing of Paradise Dynasty, although the taste is also way different. Pricing is a bit high but it makes up for it with the taste, ambience and service. This is definitely high quality Chinese food, in my opinion. The fried rice were flavorful and the dumplings keep you want to come back for more. Service was excellent with staff always checking up on us to make sure we had everything we need, despite it being super busy when we visited on a weekday evening. Parking is plentiful since this is located in the Marketplace; however, I can see spots filling up quickly during peak hours. Worth a visit! read more

In the festivities of the Lunar New Year month, my friend Melissa L. and I decided to kick off the year by indulging in some dumplings and noodles. Among the many options in the area, I liked that JA Jiaozi Authentic Dumplings looked very modern and upscale while my friend really liked that they don't have MSG. They pride themselves in using the freshest of seasonal ingredients - no MSG, no artificial coloring, no preservatives. They are located in the Marketplace, on the Irvine side. Parking would be by the same area as California Fish Grill and Texas de Brazil. They utilize Yelp Waitlist if you want to get yourself on the waitlist ahead of time. We only waited about a quick 5 minutes after arrival, which was basically the staff preparing the table. I noticed that the gentleman preparing our table was very thoughtful. It was a table that could seat 4 people, and he thoughtfully moved out place setting to the side where we would be a greater distance away from the other party. These small thoughtful actions are much appreciated and not unnoticed. My friend and I decided on 2 Steamed Jiaozi Combo ($11), Braised Beef Brisket with Quail Egg ($16), Roasted Duck Breast & Peking Duck Pancakes ($15.50) and the Morel Mushroom Chicken Noodle Soup ($15). Unfortunately they were out of the braised beef brisket and duck, so instead we added the Pan Fried Shrimp Jiaozi ($10) and the Sweet and Sour Fish Fillet ($17). We initially planned on getting tea but they didn't have any non to low caffeine teas, so we proceeded with water. The food seems to come at whatever order it's ready because the noodle and fish came out before the dumplings. The bait that lured me here was the steamed jiaozi combo because it's 5 dumplings of different colors: White - Shrimp, Yellow - Chicken w Carrot, Black - Black Cod w Cuttlefish, Green - Veggie w Spinach, Red - Pork w Beets. Definitely gimmicky but mostly tasty. I liked the shrimp, chicken and pork one the most. The cod was bland, and the veggie was even more bland. We liked the broth of the chicken soup, but I think it was a bit bland for my friend. The sweet and sour fish fillet was really good, nice and crispy with a nice sweet coating. The pan fried shrimp jiaozi was fried on one side, but not super crispy like other business, but still juicy and nice. Ensured the above and beyond service here, and the food was really good too. I feel like we feasted and the price was fair for the high quality. We definitely want to come back, especially to try those dishes they ran out of. read more

You know it's authentic Chinese food when you see that it's full of Asians dining in there. They certainly offer a variety of interesting dumplings. My favorite so far is the spicy dumplings. It says spicy but it's really not, but it does give you a slight kick and I love it. The restaurant itself is extremely clean, I'd say it's even better maintained than Din Tai Fung. A little pricey but what isn't in Irvine? I've tried a few things already. I'd recommend any dumpling dish. Seriously. You won't miss. read more

We got: pork XLB 7.5/10 chicken mushroom chili oil wontons 6/10 XO sauce green beans 10/10 chilled tofu skin salad 8/10 truffle egg plant 100/10 braised pork belly 9/10 black sesame XLB 6/10 AND drinks (usually comes with wine but we subbed for sweetened iced tea) 10/10 We got all of this food for only $70!! It was not only affordable, but very delicious. The eggplant and green beans were our favorite. The ambiance is nice, clean with nice decorations. We will definitely return to try more items. The dumpling wrappers were so thick and doughy where that's all you can taste. The filling has no flavor and I drenched it in their special sauce + chili oil to help with the doughy taste and it was still bad. I'm so glad we gave this place a try! The staff are very friendly and good looking too. Their iPad waitlist wasn't working at the time we arrived but were greeted by a host who took down a name and number for our party. Waited around for about 5-10 minutes, then got seated. Such a beautiful place. You can see the staff hard at work making the jiaozi by hand through a viewing window facing the dining area. Everything we ordered was good but what really stood out was the stir fried string beans in their signature sauce. Packed with tons of flavor. I'll get two orders of that next time. There wasn't a lot of people waiting and there were empty tables, but it was a wait to get seated. Things seemed a bit slow. Walking in you enter your name/party on a waitlist app. Luckily it wasn't too busy at that time and we were seated quickly for a party of 5. We were seated next to the window where we could watch all the dumpling magic happen. We ordered a few dishes and it was all delicious. My favorites were the eggplant ,Angus Beef as well as the chicken and mushroom dumplings. My only complaint was the portions of the entrees were small but overall everything was great. This is a really top notch restaurant with excellent service and aesthetics interior decoration. I brought our dog with us so the waiter seated us outdoor, which was decently clean, and he was kind enough to give our dog water when we asked for it. For the food, they weren't the best dumplings I had. Considering the price I paid for just five dumplings, it wasn't so worthy. (Though the veggie dumplings fell just short of expectations somehow...) The main reason for me to update my review from 3 to 5 star though, is that the restaurant apparently took my previous suggestions to heart and improved on the timing and way they served their dessert! I preferred the steamed but both were good! Good variation in the filling and steamed well. Make sure to dip in a soy sauce/vinegar/chili oil combo.
