The interior is just stunning and beautiful and there's a large window so you can see the chefs freshly make the dumplings. I got the princess fish and the black pepper beef and both were amazing. I love how the fish were battered so perfectly and uniform. It had a light crispy texture with a sweet and sour glaze. The black pepper beef was deep with umami and black pepper flavor. It was beautifully seared and the texture was perfect, it wasn't too tender to the point where it's mushy, nor was it chewy and tough. The portions here are a little on the small side, but so are the prices. The food is pretty affordable as long as you don't order too many dishes. I went with a friend and we were both full and satisfied with 2 entrees, 1 order of dumplings, and 2 rices. I kinda prefer the smaller portions too so we can try out more things on the menu without having to eat a large plate of just 1 type of food. My family and I dined here for dinner and there are so many choices of dumplings to choose from - there is no wrong choice. Casually came by to pick up from veggie grill and noticed hella Asians waiting outside. Surprised to see Asians at a mostly American establishment and took notice. Came in for 1 and waited 20 minutes when many tables were open. They are currently understaffed and doing their best. There was a list of items unavailable on the menu as well. Hope they can remedy this soon and provide a more enjoyable experience for all. Otherwise the foods were excellent. Ordered vegetarian appetizers of spicy tofu skin, okra, and cucumber salad. Both okra and tofu skin are repeated order worthy while cucumber is refreshing to try. Many vegetarian and shrimp optioned jiaozi were unavailable so I tried the pork and celery steamed jiaozi. The skin was thin enough, and held together for the juices and wasn't scolding hot to burn you. Also ordered beef and mushroom fried rice to go and it wasn't all that special. We had black sesame jiaozi for dessert and it was tasty for those who enjoy black sesame. Not overly sweet. On a whim I ordered yuzu lemon tea hot, and that was amazing! Another great find! This dumpling restaurant is in the Market Place Center. Was in the Irvine area when we got hungry for lunch. Decided to check this place out and glad we did! It's so fun watching them gracefully roll out dough and artfully fold it into perfect pleats! They offer handmade dumplings with several different types of filling (pork, shrimp, you name it...) and you can get them boiled, steamed or pan fried. Of all the items we tried, I was most impressed with the plum braised pork belly. The pork was so tender, well marinated and delicious! This is the ol' reliable place for dumplings. There has not been one that wasn't good. The signature dumplings look pretty mushy in the picture but they're one of my favorites. The steamed jiaozi combo was a pretty photographic dish and good for sampling different flavors but I prefer the classic with some chili oil, chili flakes, and a bit of soy sauce. Perhaps my favorite item to order are the green beans though. It's cooked with such flavor and complements the dumplings well with some fried rice. Their cocktails are also surprisingly great. It's not a place I would expect to want to try alcohol but there you go. It's definitely less of a hassle to get a seat here than Din Tai Fung so that is a plus and the ambiance is nice inside. We came on a Wednesday evening and waited around 10-15 minutes for a party of 3. The ambience inside is impeccable. It has a modern, cozy vibe with both outside and inside seating options. There were so many dumpling options that we were overwhelmed, but we ended up ordering their signature as well as the shrimp and scallops option. On the side, we had eggplant and fried rice. My favorite dumplings had to be the shrimp and scallop - they were super juicy and the shrimp flavor came off perfectly. While we greatly enjoyed all of our choices, the eggplant was the show stealer; my friend was so impressed that she almost wanted to thank the chef personally. This restaurant is in a plaza with plenty of parking and easy to find. It's real authentic Chinese food and they don't use MSG. Everything I ordered was so delicious, and I would order it all again. However, I do want to try a noodle dish next time. If I had to choose, the Crispy Shrimp would be my favorite. It was so crispy and the flavor was through the roof! The dumplings were all so yummy and fresh - you see them making it by hand all day. So impressive. The service was top notch and they made sure we enjoyed our food and had everything we wanted. Also, we got 2 different fruit teas, and it was so yum. I would probably ask them to make it less sweet next time, if you're like me and want more of the tea taste. Was not as big of a fan of the beef and onion, but having fresh might have made a difference. 2nd favorite of the dumplings were the pork and celery. I could have probably had all 3 orders of the chicken and mushroom to be honest. Green beans were 10/10 and the steak and mushrooms also 10/10. To be honest, I expected more before coming here, especially with all the hype I saw on Yelp. Based on the rave reviews, I ordered some of the popular dishes recommended by Yelpers: steamed scallops and shrimp jiaozi, Peking duck pancake, crispy shrimp, and string beans with XO sauce. I had high hopes for the string beans, but they were a bit of a letdown. I wish they had more depth in flavor, were a little less sweet, and had a spicier kick to balance things out. The Peking duck pancake was also disappointing. The wrap was thicker than I anticipated, and I personally prefer it thinner. On top of that, the spring mix it came with didn't complement the dish at all. The sauce was overly salty, and the addition of honey mustard (I think?) was an odd choice that didn't pair well with the duck. The shrimp jiaozi was pretty standard in terms of flavor, but I appreciated that the wrap was the perfect thinness--just right. The crispy shrimp was enjoyable but not exceptional. The more I ate, the sweeter it became, and I found myself wishing for a bit more saltiness to balance the dish. Overall, everything was on the sweeter side, which didn't quite meet my expectations. We ordered the JA Signature Boiled Jiaozi dumplings; chicken and mushroom boiled Jiaozi; stir fried string beans with XO sauce; roasted duck breast and Peking Duck pancakes; and Crispy Shrimp. All the dishes had fresh ingredients, were well-prepared and excellent --- very tasty food. I thought the dumplings and the Crispy Shrimp were especially standout good. In fact the shrimp was so good and looked so good I forgot to take a photo of it and just dived into it along with my mom and sister when it was served. But all the dishes delivered. First off, the space is nice and open, bright and modern. I appreciate the higher ceilings making the space feel even bigger. The staff were also very friendly. However, I felt the food was just average. The shrimp dumplings were good but the colored combo set was kind of eh and the other dishes were good but not amazing and the portions were smaller than I expected. Still, it's a nice place to meet up with people and though they don't take reservations, they do use the Yelp waitlist. There's a decent amount of parking spots and electric charging stations close by. We waited about 30 minutes on a Saturday afternoon. The interior is modern and sophisticated, yet cozy. Walls are a mix of concrete tiles and wooden panels. The see-through lattice panels and 3 tier bookshelf partitions provide separation while not making the room feel too closed off. Good decor in general, I like the houseplants and brass-colored birdcage chandeliers. There's a large glass window in front of the counter seating area so you can watch the dumpling-making in action. They have an outdoor patio with additional seating, but it wasn't in use when I was there. The main difference is that the food here at JA is actually pretty good. The food tasted good. The Dumplings (we ordered the Shrimp pan seared and the Chicken Mushroom steamed) tasted like they were made well, the traditional way. The Shrimp Fried Rice was cooked well, didn't resemble some sloppy Panda Express mess served on an actual plate. The chili tofu skin salad was actually fairly good. The service was fine. Not super attentive but they also didn't ignore you. Still trying to get over the whole steakhouse vibe for Chinese restaurants. To me, the food was definitely good, but it wasn't worth the money.
