I am pretty particular about my hair and generally find someone and stick with them as long as I can. Josephine is my new victim. So much so, I followed her from her previous salon to here. Her attention to detail, personal sense of pride in her work, and downright fun personality is what will keep you coming back. Considering you're trapped in a barber's/stylist's chair for 30 minutes every few weeks, I'd imagine you're looking for someone you can have a good conversation with, in addition to that top tier haircut. I am grateful for them taking a walk-in client. Just had a whim to get my hair done, and, this place was on the street in front of me. Karma. Efficient, kind and polite, but not the most experienced crew I have met. Pros: they listen well and, again, are efficient and quite friendly. Cons: There were clumps of hair from yesterday's schedule (I was the first client of the day) still along the baseboards. And I mean clumps. Giant clumps. And, I was quoted three different prices for my walk-in experience, disturbingly, a higher price after I had already been waiting a few minutes and was emotionally committed to being there. While I trust and believe that it was an honest mistake, it felt like bait-and-switch. Also, the stylist uses gobs of hairspray. Every time I went to stop her, I thought "Well, surely, that will be all she uses." But then, no, there would be more. Also, very pricey for the level of salon it is, imho. Also, why is everyone styling hair by hanging brushes from your head? Don't they know that that is uncomfortable? Or, is this now an acceptable technique? read more

I have being seeing Renata for a number of years and have never done a review for her. I have been to both her salon in the city and in Mt Prospect for waxing and facials. Renata's facials always are worth getting and are reasonably priced for what you get. I was 20 minutes late to my appointment last week and somehow she managed not to take away from my 1 hour scheduled appointment. I'm not sure if they had to move things around or what but I always get stellar service. I highly recommend Renata for facials and waxing. When it comes to taking care of my face, I want the best that my money can buy, don't everybody else? So, I can tell you with as much certainty as I can generate in this uncertain world that Renata is one of the best estheticians in Chicago for damn sure. That's why I've been with her for almost ten years, that's why I followed her to every salon she landed in (three in my memory). Could I go to anybody else? Absolutely. Could I afford anybody else? Yes, I could. Were those predictable in this industry transitions and rotations a good reason to maybe try somebody else, to cheat? No doubt as I am a beauty slut just like many of us who have a tendency to think that the grass is always greener on the other side. So, given all of the above, was I ever disloyal to Renata? No, I wasn't, and here is why - Renata is the best. Period, end of story. Now, why should you believe me? Where is the source of my credibility? Probably my deeply rooted vanity. I am an incredibly high maintenance woman. My mom took me to my first facial when I was maybe 14. Since then, I've been to many estheticians and I could compare and contrast them with very little effort since, unlike the breakdown of heavy metals, the results and the repercussions of any given facial were seen immediately. So, what did I see in Renata's work? Precision, attention to detail, extreme care, gentle touch are just a few things that come to mind. In short, Renata is a perfectionist, and she leaves no stone untouched. Every time I see her, she gives me a true European facial, and I know the real meaning of that as I am European myself. European facial is not about a nice little massage and a mask slapped onto one's face in the presence of some New Age music - an extortionist practice many of us could see in various salons around Chicago that offer this fake version of a European facial to their less discerning clientele . This is bs. Anybody can put on a mask at home, turn on the volume, and give herself a little massage (whatever massage comes to mind, silly). Why should one pay money for that? European facial is about cleaning and revitalizing the skin, it's about removing the gunk out of pores and creating plump, radiant and smooth canvas to slap all of the makeup back on again and proceed to stop the traffic. Yep, happened to me too - Renata's facials facilitate traffic stopping situations in and around Chicago and suburbs. Now you know. Every time there is congestion on the street, don't pretend to be confused as to why. In any rate, every self-respecting celebrity knows to see a good European facialist on a regular basis because Europeans rule the beauty industry. And celebrities know everything, don't they? If they understand politics and global warming, surely they understand facials. Personally, I trust them unconditionally, every one of them, sometimes more than I trust God. Moving on from celebrities to the essence of this review, let me dive deeper into specifics of why I will name my firstborn Renata regardless of the gender. Renata saves my skin on a regular basis. When I have an acne flareup, skin congestion or zero color, I run to see her to be transformed. She is the first number I dial if I want my skin to look its best, if I have a special occasion or if I am depressed over what I see in the mirror. Not only does Renata able to always, always save the day for me, she does it in the most gentle manner possible. In other words, I don't need to go into hiding for a week to conceal my black, blue, and red face from people. Trust me, after Renata's facial no child will ever be scarred for life seeing your face. In fact, most of the time, even with lots of congestion, blackheads, acne removed from my face after facial, I leave Renata being able to go to the event on the same day with no recovery time necessary. My face is just fine to move on with my life, yet it is squeaky clean. So, people of Yelp, here you have it. Do I want to let the secret out? I have been going to Anna for everything hair related for 5 years and I would not even consider going elsewhere. I have never once walked out of a hair color, cut or style disappointed. I had probably tried 5 or 6 different stylists/salons in the city before finding her and the quality you receive is so far beyond anyone else I've gone to. We had our wedding in Mexico this past year and I literally begged my husband to fly her out for the simple reason that I couldn't imagine anyone else doing my hair, especially on a day as important as a wedding. This review is long overdue. I started coming here after I followed my stylist from another salon. Jack Alexander is a small boutique salon with just a few chairs, which is nice. It is cozy and there is always wine, coffee, tea, chocolates, and some kind of decadent sweet treat to nosh on. Obviously I'm not schlepping to the Gold Coast for snacks though, I come to see Michelle. She is a hair wizard. She gives amazing cuts and styles my unruly mane perfectly and is always able to give me a cut that is a version of what I imagined that suits me best and makes me feel lovely. Her hair cuts also magically grow out perfectly, which is great since I wait waaaay to long between cuts. And... She gave my 4 year old girl an adorable little bob last time I was there.
