I love food- and have eaten a lot of places but this was one of the more memorable meals I have had in a long time. Don't miss the Bakery in the back of the building. We sat down and they have a ton of staff helping with drinks and getting you settled and then they sat a bunch of other tables while we sat and then someone came out of the back and took other tables orders that sat way after us. So bad start for sure but still open minded. I ordered the Eggs Benedict and my kids got pancakes. How hard is this? The eggs Benedict was like rotten? The texture was good but flavor was terrible. It was like a rotten taste. No other way to explain it. The girls pancakes were so weird? Like a processed taste. Super unnatural flavors. I was so excited to both find and have time to come here. I had essentially grown up hearing about Jackie's and her chocolate mousse bag and I was particularly touched by her deciding to move to a simpler life to open a breakfast and lunch place far from the hustle and bustle of Chicago. In general, though, my experience was just OK. I had the egg foo yong sandwich and I was expecting something really unusual. It did have some nice touches but really it was just a souped up egg sandwich. My wife had the frittata of the day and while it was nice it was certainly not a five. The most surprising item were the hashbrowns my daughter ordered. They were given an Asian flavor with egg and flour added but they were undercooked and just tasted like mush with undercooked potatoes. The bacon she ordered was very good. (Mentioned this to the staff btw and the reaction sent off "oh well" vibes). I also visited the bakery. It's quite small with just a few things. Since I didn't try anything, I can't comment on that. Just know it's not a big selection. Even so, I believe this place is relatively new and hopefully Jackie will find her footing to make this a destination spot when in Harbert country. Great stuff! We stockpile Jackie's lasagna, beef barley soup and chili in our freezer for those times when we want to eat well but can't bring ourselves to cook. Jackie makes several versions of her lasagna; all are tasty. The turkey chili is nicely balanced and not too spicy. The beef barley soup is a major favorite at our house; it's light and aromatic rather than the heavier version that we sometimes make ourselves. Jackie is a real chef and you can easily tell it because everything she serves has a little extra flair and a "wow" factor that says cuisine rather than cooking! read more

An adorable little brunch place with a beautiful patio that I could relax in all Day! I ordered an eggs Benedict. I believe the florentine version. It was so yummy! The big sign outside says Grateful Diner. But if you look closely, you'll see a small sign in the yard that says Jackie's Cafe. Everything here tastes like your grandma's recipe. The blueberry french toast was awesome. This isn't like a "blueberry" Eggo waffle where there's just blue candy chunks inside. They made a loaf of blueberry bread with actual blueberries and then made french toast out of it because YOU'RE WORTH IT. The bacon was also most excellent. Our server was super cute and friendly. We sat on the small, enclosed outdoor porch to enjoy our meal. If you're in New Buffalo, make this your preferred brunch destination. read more

Great food! We went in summer and it was freezing inside- we don't know why they feel the need to blast the air-conditioning! However, there is really nice outdoor seating (albeit with street noise beyond the fence). The food is fresh and portion sizes are fine. Unfortunately, they serve their ketchup and hot sauce in little plastic containers- we're not sure why they can't just give you the larger condiment container. At least the food was really good. The menu has a symbol for "vegetarian," but it looks like they forgot to use it. Many items seem to be vegetarian, such as pancakes, but do not have the vegetarian symbol next to them. The server was very nice, but had no idea what the deal was with the Missing symbol. They should just eliminate that symbol from the key. Very confusing! I ended up, ordering something that seemed to be vegetarian, but didn't have the symbol. I would definitely return here, due to the Pleasant atmosphere and good food, but hope they cut down on the use of plastic containers, and fix their menu. read more

We were traveling with our family and this place by far was our favorite breakfast spot. The food and service were all wonderful. They had some nice daily selections of quiche and then all the normal breakfast options. My husband had the blueberry stuffed frech toast and loved it, I had the daily quiche special and it was delicious. When we are in town next time this will be our go to spot! read more

This place had rave reviews from our airbnb and a line out the door but was not worth it at all. Wait took forever - way longer than estimated - despite empty tables sitting there forever waiting to be turned over. Waitstaff was rude - literally said "no" and walked away in the middle of my sentence when I asked if we could order our food at the same time as our drinks (because we'd been waiting over a hour with a hungry toddler). Once we did order, took forever and was pretty boring, no flavor, and the only thing that was hot was the soggy bacon. Then they over charged us by almost $30 somehow and had to void and re-run the card, so definitely check your bill. Overall a very disappointing experience. read more

What a pleasant surprise this was! My friend, the Purple Grandma, and I were driving to Michigan early July 3rd. We planned to find breakfast in Three Oaks or New Buffalo. I saw the sign for Jackie's on Route 12 as we approached New Buffalo, slammed on the brakes, and pulled into the parking lot, telling my friend "let's check it out. If we don't like the menu, we can find somewhere else." With that spirit of adventure and an easy out, she agreed. We saw some small entrance that faced the parking lot, and wondered if that was the main entrance, but it wasn't; it was the door to a small carry-out area. We saw other people arrive and walk to the front of the building, so we followed them. Inside the building, we saw a stack of menus to our right and, to our left, outdoor seating. The prospect of sitting outside in an enclosed patio area appealed to me. The menu had several different offerings that sounded good. The outside area features several tables enclosed by a high fence. A variety of birdhouses lined the top of the fencing; the waitress told us that the owner liked to collect birdhouses. They contributed to the charm of the setting. The Purple Grandma was won over as soon as she saw that Jackie's coffee was organic and fair trade. I recently started drinking my coffee black (no more cream and sugar!), and I liked the taste very much, as did the P.G. My friend ordered a build-it-yourself omelette and I had the frittata of the day, with ricotta, asparagus and leeks. We loved our food! Prices were reasonable, too. Service was good. We started out with a female server, who told us that another server would be taking over our table when he arrived. That turned out to be a very enthusiastic young man who paid good attention to us without hovering. On our way out, I saw a brochure about the restaurant. The Purple Grandma and I were amazed to discover that the Jackie of Jackie's is Jackie Shen, who operated high-end, famous restaurants in Chicago in the past. No wonder everything was so good! My boyfriend and I came here for brunch on a Sunday. The spot is pretty cute, and the menu is an average diner menu. I got the eggs benedict, he got waffles. The food was decent, but pretty overpriced for what it was. The prices were on par with brunch spots in Chicago and NYC, but the food definitely not as good. The portions were small and no sides. We also ordered a side of bacon - 3 dry strips that tasted stale for $6. We mentioned to the waitress that we thought the bacon tasted old, but she just shrugged and didn't offer to take it off our bill. Excellent food - but service was very disappointing. When a large group was blocking the sign that said plz wait to be seated we went to sit at a table. An obviously disgruntled server "scolded us" and continued to treat us poorly even though my husband had apologized. People would stand at the door for 5 minutes before even being acknowledged. I'm not sure how this establishment would survive in an area that they had to earn their business with strong customer service instead of getting it by default in a busy summer lake town. Our server treated my husband terribly (he is in his 70's) and did not treat other patrons much better. A positive is that the French toast was excellent and all 4 of us enjoyed our food. But would never return - I would wait for an hour elsewhere instead of ever coming back here. The two stars is for the service - the food would get 5 stars.
