Jacks is doing an amazing job enforcing the new city rules of sitting room only! Every person that tried to order at the bar was turned away unless they had a seat. There was ample room for patrons to sit, drink, eat and know they were 6 feet apart from another party. I called ahead to assure I could bring my service animal and I was denied at the door by James stating that I'm not blind and my dog is too small to be a service dog. So me and my Lucci sat on the patio in 40 degree weather. I'm very offended that he didn't ask me for paperwork or a valid excuse on why I needed a service animal anyways. I used to love this bar, mainly due to Jennie Offenstein being my favorite and most attentive bartender in Milwaukee. However, I have been disappointed post covid in the meaningless restrictions such as no bar dice when there has been new "public" cigarette, pull tab, and white claw machines installed. Today was my third time visiting Jack's. I feel like I've given it enough chances to give a fair review. Food: mediocre at best; food dry and unimaginative. Only got part of what I requested. Service: well meaning but subpar. I witnessed the bartender, after having pressed the register screen many times and handling cards and money, throw cherries in a customer's drink with his bare hands. Yuck. Cleanliness during the pandemic: somewhat frightening. Hand dryer in the ladies room was not working and there were no paper towels supplied. The staff wore varying face coverings, including useless bandanas, and frequently had masks off or pull down below their noses. Plus: well ventilated. No, I will not be back. read more

I love Jacks for brunch! They have a $10 mimosa pitcher, and their bloodies are fantastic. I forget the name on the menu, but the loaded tater tots with pulled pork and nacho cheese ARE A MUST. I came here right after returning to the US after 9 months abroad, and those tots were the most glorious thing to come home to. Haven't been here in the evenings, so not sure what the vibe is like. But great for brunch, especially in warm weather when you can sit on the patio and people watch. read more

Decent - typical bar. Has a cool balcony upstairs so you can see the lower bar/restaurant area. Over priced unless you take them up on their specials and happy hour items. Overall, we usually have good service (minus the one night we tried eating on a Saturday and it took about an hour to get food, which I guess should have been expected because it was really busy). Other than that the food is typical bar food and the beer is cold. **After visiting this location a few times since writing this, I've realized their bartenders are not the greatest. They are not trained to scan the bar before serving the next customer. Almost every time I go to the bar, I am looked over and about 5 other people are served before me. Ok I been sleeping on Jack's food for a minute now. Came in for a Packer game and was craving a burger/something greasy. Ordered the Nashville chicken sandwich and my GOD, that thang was enormousssss !!!!! You get your moneys worth for sure. Flavor and taste was solid. Only thing I have to admit that disappointed me was the fried pickles. I am a fried pickle lover anywhere I go, if its on a menu I'm ordering it, however; these were anything like what I thought. I'm definitely a fan of this place! The inside reminds an Irish bar (dark, wood interior) meets sports bar (a lot of TVs around the bar). The waitstaff is friendly. Loved playing bar dice with them. Perfect example of how segregated Milwaukee is. There is absolutely no diversity and I saw exactly why that was at the end of my experience here. The bartenders were completely disrespectful. Now i know why when i go to these bars, i hardly see people that look like me. I witnessed an altercation where a white bartender felt it was ok to say to an African-American female: "bitch get out". Our daughter recommended Jack's for happy hour and we gladly went. We sat at the bar and had drink specials and there was $2 off appetizers (starting at 2). We had what she recommended - the Steak Tenderloin Sliders and they were enough for the both of us. 3 great sliders with lots of fries with beers on sale. What could be wrong? How do I begin to explain just how terrible the food at Jacks American Pub is? Shall I compare it to eating airplane food? No because airplane meals are at least hot when you get them. Jacks food is honestly the worst pub food I've ever had and that's saying a lot because I lived in England for a year, a country notorious for its terrible food. The problem I have with Jacks is that's it's relatively easy food to make, nothing too special and yet every time I eat there I'm disappointed and I end up sending something back. My most recent trip I got mozzarella sticks and the chicken bacon ranch wrap. I ended up sending the mozzarella sticks back because they tasted like fish which really put me off. And as a disclaimer I must note that I NEVER send anything back when I go out to eat. It's only ever been at Jacks. So when I received my chicken bacon ranch wrap I could only taste lettuce and tomato and little extra crunchy pieces of bacon. With every bite my teeth felt as if one would chip at any second. The wrap looks huge so I expected it to be filled with chicken but it was seriously lacking in that department. I wanted to tell the waitress to just take it off the bill and throw it out because it was an inedible, disgusting excuse for a wrap but I just ate my waffle fries and pouted.. When it comes to the beer selection it's kind of sad that a Wisconsin bar is missing so much. It's kind of just basic, which isn't bad but when you've got a place like World Of Beer across the street, ya gotta up your game a little bit. The positive thing I like about Jacks is the waitstaff. They're always friendly and the service is fast so I always tip because it's not their fault the food is disgusting. The only reason I went to Jacks as much as I have is because of Trivia Night but I think my friends and I will be looking elsewhere from now on. read more

Similar to the previous Yelper, we were excited to try Jack's but were terribly disappointed. Where to start though, there were so many problems! Walking into Jack's there was no hostess, so we asked the bartender if we could just sit where ever. Of course, he said sure and that he would let a server know that we needed menus. I already had a feeling that things were going to go awry. Surprise, surprise, no server comes to our table - even though there about 5 other servers milling around. Once again, I went up to the bar asking for menus and asking if we should just place an order with the bartender. One of the server's overheard and said she would be with us. We ordered drinks, which came fairly quickly, but it was the food that took close to an hour! We ordered wings and a 'build your own burger' with the tots - nothing that seemed overly complicated. What was really strange is that we had about 4 different waitresses check in at our table at various times, to the point where it was getting annoying. I was always under the impression that at any restaurant/bar servers had designated tables... Finally after waiting for what felt like decades, we got the food. The presentation looked nice, not sloppy like typical bar food. But that is where it ended. With no surprise the burger came missing the sauteed onions, the wings came with ranch instead of blue cheese. The worst part is that all of a sudden all the servers were gone! No one checked to see if we got everything or if the food tasted good. Once again I had to go to the bar and ask for blue cheese and another round of drinks. In regards to taste, the burger seemed like a frozen patty; dry with little flavor. The wings were standard, but left a pool of unappetizing grease. One final comment. The people sitting outside kept using the window as a doorway, awkwardly coming in and out right by our table. One guy didn't even have shoes on, and ordering at the bar barefoot. Gross. Just Gross. I sincerely hope that the people who opened Jack's will care about quality, not just making this into another dive-y Brady Street bar. Otherwise, what a missed opportunity. read more

The beginning of the night started off fun and then slowly went downhill. I ordered a jack and coke when first arriving and it was 6 dollars, two hours later I sent my boyfriend to order me the same drink and the man charged him 9. Also, the bar had on their website that they closed at 2am. With no warning, at 1:45am they told everyone very rudely that we had to leave right now. We got no warning and most of us had just ordered are Ubers assuming they closed at 2am. They wouldn't let us wait inside and it was under 20 degrees outside. Even though we showed him that our Ubers are coming he wouldn't let us wait inside and blamed it on us for not ordering them sooner. I had mentioned how the Ubers were ordered with the idea that they were closing at 2. I would never come back. read more

I've been wanting to check out Jacks since it opened July 25 and got my chance August 5. I was so pleased! My visit was all good. Other Yelpers who reviewed previously had some bad experiences which they attributed to the newness of the place and getting up to speed. Mondays on Brady St. Cater to Service Industry professionals and at 3 in the afternoon the place was relaxed and friendly. I was welcomed to the bar by waitstaff and made friends with Barry (White) the bartender. Immediately you notice two things when you sit down. 1. Lights...which were noticeably absent in the old Crisp. and 2. A better flow to the layout, moving the bar to the middle and adding a much-needed drop ceiling in the center. The menu is limited as the new owners tweak, so it was standard bar fare offerings on my visit. The standard teriyaki wings came out hot and tasty, beautifully presented and smelled wonderful. The bloody mary was adequate in a town that freaks over its bloody mary's so I'm hoping they come up with something special in the future. A bar with this kind of atmosphere is welcome in this neighborhood. I will be back! read more

I was hoping for more from Jack's. However, I got less! Upon arriving in the bar, we were not greeted by anyone, and had to ask where we could sit. After about 10min, had to go to the bar and ask for a server to come to the table to take our drink order. The drinks came fast and we order some food. I ordered a burger with bacon, fried onions and blue cheese. The server did not write our order down, she decided she was going to memorize it. Unfortunately for us, she got it wrong. There were no fried onions on the burger. The second order was their wings, and after a recommendation from the server we ordered the dry rub with blue cheese. Of course ranch came instead, but there was not a server in site to ask for blue cheese. So back to the bar we to ask for blue cheese. What's funny is that when we had no food just drinks, about four different servers came by to ask if we were doing OK, but after the food came, it was a ghost town. Some of the wings ended up being pink in the middle, and that was the end of fr us. Relaying our concerns to the four waitress to come to our table, she had a glossy look in her eye like she had just woken up. I knew from that look our comments when in one ear and out the other. I really wanted this place to be a cool, and good place to grab something on Brady, but like the rest of Brady street, it will devolve into just another Water Streetesq place, and close down unless management gets a hold on quality control in the kitchen and in the bar area. read more

OK Jacks. This is more of a 3.5. You've finally got your shit together. Upgrade. I've visited a couple of times since my first experience. I've hung out downstairs and upstairs, and the service has improved greatly. Friendly servers who are easy to flag down but don't suffocate you. Decently fast bar service, even during busy times (like a Packers game). Seriously solid chicken wings (and $.50 to boot on Mondays. Try the buffalo, it's not what you think). The food was excessively dripping in grease beyond bar food standards. And oh yeahhh they made us wait 15 minutes before even taking the food order. Okay so I was real hesitant to even enter Jack's. It's on Brady and it seemed to have a bit of a heavy Brah vibe. It's definitely a dude bar. But that's okay. Dude's are okay. And once I saw the pitcher and pizza deal on Thursday I was so so sold. I went with a buncha ladies (tryin to get some estrogen into the place) and we ordered a pitcher, which came with a free pizza. WHAT. about 7 minutes later we order our 2nd pitcher and our server goes: "Great. Another pizza too?" This continued until we almost needed to roll ourselves out of the joint and I was feelin thankful for my legging choice in pants. There are some good things about this place but also some bad things the last few times I stopped in for a drink and a bite to eat. Pro: It is a pretty spacious place for the area. You can usually get a group of people in there to eat or have drinks. They also have lots of tvs to watch games. Even if you sit down and not at the bar you are usually not waiting that long. Cons: Beer selection is not the best. Beer prices are high for that area and Milwaukee. $5.00 for a miller ilte, what?? I am not sure of any other places charging that much, maybe Stubby's. It is not just their beer though the alcohol prices for mix drinks are on the higher end. Also some of the bartenders, not all, will make the drinks weak. Another issue I have is that it is a very simple sports bar. It seems like Jon Tapper from Bar Rescue came in and designed this bar. Nothing really distinguishes it from other sports bars. The decor is plain and blah, along with the overall environment. I would suggests people at least try it out if you are in the area. Everything is worth a chance. Just for me, after a few times, I probably won't be back. read more

Was assigned to this place during one of our dinner ride alongs at our Pabst meeting last week. Gotta say, I'm glad I ended up here vs any of the other spots. They reserved the space upstairs for us and the food was served buffet style. (Personally, I've never been a huge fan of buffet serving. I'll take it, but not my preference). Either way, our selections included: salad, artichoke dip, mac and cheese, brisket, pulled pork, and fried chicken. Pretty standard stuff. Might have also been because I was starving but Jack's brisket....man o man. Some of the best I've ever had. Soft, juicy melt in your mouth strips of brisket. I probably ate twice my body weight of it. Mac and cheese was filled with Wisconsin cheese goodness with bread crumbs offered a crispy texture. Same story with the artichoke dip, warm cheesy goodness on the inside. Can't speak on behalf of the other items offered but if I ever make it back to Jack's, brisket I'll be coming for you. read more

**EDIT** After being contacted by the manager, I've decided to up the review from 1 to 3 stars because I appreciate the outreach so much, I'll still have to go back again to eat for a better review, but the care alone is worth a few extra stars ... For the record; I understand Jack's just opened this week, and I will try it again at a later date with hopefully a better experience and review, but as of now- here goes. Went on a Sunday afternoon (1pm) for lunch. It was slow, maybe 30 people there in total. After walking in to the pub with no hostess or sign saying to "seat ourselves", we eventually looked awkward enough that the bartender said to sit wherever. We were given the menus, and noted how limited they were which I completely understood as they just opened and are probably still crafting a menu. Fine. No big deal. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich with fries and my boyfriend ordered the proclaimed "slow roasted" beef brisket sandwich with fries. A group of 4 next to us ordered similar items at about the same time. Then we waited... ...and waited... and, waited some more. Approaching the 50 minute mark, we began to ponder just leaving. The folks next to us were about to do the same thing. The cook? came out and told us it would only be a few more minutes. I asked him to also tell the people near us, as they were equally (if not more so) as frustrated. He said the same. Finally! The food came. He put the chicken sandwich down, and next to it is a big pile of potato salad. After all that- it's wrong anyway. I mentioned it, and he apologized and went to get me fries. Took a few bites. The sandwich was fine- I mean, it's a grilled chicken sandwich with lettuce and tomato. Pretty vanilla stuff (ie: hard to mess up). My boyfriend said his brisket was good. He then asked if my food was hot, which it was..."Mine isn't" he said. I took a bite of his- not only was it not hot, it was actually COLD in the middle, like- out of the fridge cold. 50 minute sandwiches. Wrong sides. Completely cold meat. Wow. We did get 50% off without asking which was nice, I assume they realized what a trainwreck it was. Although, our waitress didn't stop by to ask how anything was or if we needed more drinks. (I don't know if she would have liked the real answer) Jack! Please! Get your act together. I don't know WHAT'S going wrong in that kitchen but it needs to be addressed. I know you just opened and I'll give you the benefit of the doubt but good god, it was downright BAD. read more

Went for the Brewers vs Cubs game and the bouncer was so rude to my group. He accused my group of being over served when we only had 2 drinks. I believe his name was Kyle. He had a crusty mustache and he is a terrible person to have representing the bar. He was threatening our group and he said comments that were racists to one person specifically. Because of his "power trip" other customers were disgusted and left as well. The night manger was no help in solving this issue either. Was the worst bar experience I've ever had in Milwaukee because of the mustache guy. You have lost my business and the business of others as well. He should get fired for being bad at his job and racists to paying customers. read more

I stopped this morning with a friend and had a very pleasant brunch on the slightly chilly sidewalk. The service was attentive and efficient. I had the Jack's Scrambler - a delicious combination of egg, cheese, smoked sausage and pepper. The only complaint was the diced tomatoes were slices instead. Overall it was tasty. My companion had an Eggs Benedict with a substitution of avocado for the smoked ham and it was well done. Would recommend it. read more
