Kinda disappointed. It is advertised as a bbq joint, but had only 3 bbq choices (no brisket). And for a bbq joint, I expect pretty dang good hamburgers. This was disappointing. The patty was about a 1/4" thick, not juicy or tasty. (Seemed like a fast food joint burger). The bun tasted stale and the sweet potato fried felt like they had been under a warmer for hrs. I absolutely love coming here and picking up for lunch or brining the family on the weekends. I call in the order and swing by for it. My order is always ready in a timely manner. Always order before the lunch rush. I love that they offer split sandwiches with a side of choice which is plenty of food. The Prime Rib sandwich is amazing one of my favorite sandwiches here . Came over to visit with friends and this is where we ended up. This will be place we will always stop at when we come over for a visit. The food, the atmosphere the service is top notch. Detailed review: $85 for 3 entrees, one appetizer, and the Bloody Mary. Bloody Mary 4.5/5 First time having a Bloody Mary. I think the pickle juice really helped. Only taking off 0.5 because the bacon was weird and unedible Ahi Tostada's 4/5 Good flavor but very difficult to eat. Every time I tried to take a bite it would just fall apart. Ended up eating it mostly with a fork. Not sure why they didn't just make the fried wonton into a taco shape to make it easier to hold and eat. Potato Wedges 3/5 Pretty flavorless other than the bacon. The ranch we got on the side saved it. Items I didn't personally eat: Grilled Cod Tacos 3/5 Should have come with some sort or salsa or sauce and they would have been better. Ribeye Burger 4/5 Didn't enjoy the jalapeno but really liked the egg on it. All in all, the food was good. However, the service wasn't at all. We were sat at a table without silverware and were also served food without silverware. We asked our server to get us some but after about another 3 mins sitting with our appetizer, someone from our group had to go up to the service counter where all of the employees (including the manager) were standing and ask for some. Jack's is located in the main drag in downtown Templeton, CA. They have plenty of outdoor seating and the overhead fans provided a needed breeze on a very hot afternoon. We got the Reuben with sweet potato fries and the spinach wrap with tri tip. Both were excellent and the wrap was huge (see pic)! Due to the prevalent staffing shortage you may have to wait a bit but based on our lunches, it's well worth it. read more

Not sure how to get this thought or message across. But I typically have gotten the wraps, where you can order any salad as a wrap. I was shocked by the price tag of $20.95 and looked at the menu. I'm wondering why a salad wrapped in a tortilla costs more than a sandwich and doesn't even come with a side like the sandwiches do? read more

The tri-tip was awful and so chewy that the middle was not edible. Not sure if it was bad meat or cooked wrong. Wife couldn't cut hers with a knife and I had to gnaw on mine. Generally the central coast is known for great tri-tip so this was surprising. Service was fine, sides were OK but boring. Everything was very expensive. read more

WOW! I wasn't sure what to expect as this was my first experience visiting this establishment. I was seated outside next to a heater since the day was chilly and within a couple of minutes I was greeted by my waiter, Trevor. He demonstrated the perfect characteristics of what you might want in a server and more. His timing and amount of engagement were perfect and I could see that he had a similar effect on several other diners, never missing a beat. I explained that my day was a bit "off" and just like magic he brightened up my mood. As for the food, my oh my, it was scrumptious. I indulged in the Asian Chicken Salad (large portion, took 1/2 home), champagne and an ice cream/brownie all were splendid. I will be returning for sure. read more

First time trying Jacks. We had friendly attentive service and seated quickly. Considering Covid restrictions they have great outdoor seating area in place. The food was delicious and average Price for the area. Not over priced. I had the cajon shrimp pasta and it tasted delicious and was a healthy portion to. The bread it came with was the best. Would highly recommend this place if you're in town! My favorite thing we had were the filthy fries. Fries are covered in melted jack cheese, fried sage and bacon. To me, the fried sage really made this dish and through all the other heavy elements. My boyfriend got the full rack of ribs which are probably the biggest rack I've ever seen and I got the the tri tip dinner. Have always enjoyed Jack's but last night was disappointing. It seems that the quality of the food has declined. They served their pulled pork sandwich on a thin white fluff-bread roll. It was equivalent to eating a sandwich made of white wonder bread and reminded me of something you would get at a cheap coffee shop. My husband felt the same way about the bread used for his Ruben sandwich. He called it white air-bread. Please serve your sandwiches on a better quality roll/bread. Other than that, the service was good and the rest of the sandwich was tasty but, the bread/roll changed it from a 5 star sandwich to an average one. read more

We walked in around 5:30, our party of 6 was immediately sat on the enclosed patio. It was raining but the patio heater kept it nice and toasty. The waitress was amazing! So sweet, attentive, did not give a second thought to splitting our checks. I had the chicken BLT sandwich it was a little spicy and the sidewinder fries were pretty good. My friends got the garlic fries, I have to say they were better. Prime rib burger was delicious the grilled jalapeño on top was a nice touch. Not sure what's up with the low star reviews several months ago, but maybe they've hired new staff & management since then because we've been there twice this month, so we whole heartedly approve! The food is great & the service is friendly & prompt! The friendly part earns five stars right off the bat! The menu is amazing! I had the Ruben with onion rings the first visit & wish I'd remembered to take a photo! It was so good I would have ordered it twice! (My husband actually ordered the chili burger twice!) But opted for the calamari & ordered it as my meal. They have dill tarter sauce & if you follow me, you know I'm very picky about my tarter sauce & blue cheese! ( I don't like sweet) & so far they keep earning their 5 stars! The atmosphere is comfortable & their menu offers some of the best comfort food around! What a sweet spot, right there on Main Street! I ate here tonight with my partner and we both got ribeye burgers and a plate of wings--our standard order when we come here every couple months. The server Autumn was especially sweet, and the young lads bussing tables were also friendly. Autumn happily answered my cheesy "What's your favorite menu item?" question with a smile too, she's a keeper. Just a simple menu with good service and a convenient location. After a long day driving and a tour of the Hearst Castle, we went to Atascadero to stay the night. We got hungry and wanted something form a local eatery instead of just going to some chain. So we ventured into Templeton and found Jack's Bar and Grill. We walked in and we're immediately greeted and the hostess got us to our table outside. The weather was awesome and the wife and I were ready to eat. Our server came to us and got us drinks and we ordered their Garlic Herb fries to start. Lalo our server was awesome. He recommended to me the fish and chips and I bit. My wife got the chicken tacos and I decided to finish the order by grabbing a Peanut Butter whiskey old fashioned. So low the food. Garlic Herb fries were ok. Honestly too much on the fresh garlic but alright nonetheless. The fish and chips on the other hand was Broke Da Mout good! The fish was so crunchy and moist. Literally best fish and chips ever. Flaky and yet substantial in chew. It was perfect. But here's the kicker, my wife's tacos were super spicy to her. I tried it and it was warm for me. But my wife's palate was sensitive. So I understand. Lalo came over and my wife explained how it was too hot and asked if we could order something else and we'd still pay for the entree. Lalo said no worries and got her a chicken sandwich and took the tacos off our bill. What a class act! Didn't even tell us he had to ask a manager before doing it. Just did it. Took initiative and got us what we needed. Lalo made the experience there awesome. Whenever I'm driving through Central Coast California again, I'm going to Jack's Bar and Grill because of the service we got from this guy Lalo! read more

We visited Jack's Bar and Grill for the first time on Monday, September 7, 2020 at about 12:30PM with a party of four. This restaurant was picked by two of our party guests who live in the area. We were unfamiliar with the area. We had an outstanding experience, as the food is clearly the highlight of this restaurant. Current seating is outdoors only, and we had a table under a nice canopy in the parking lot area. You could smell the smokers that were working overtime behind the parking lot, for the upcoming dinner later that evening. Our server was efficient, as it appeared there were only two services working (together) at that time. I had the French Dip, which was just one the tastiest sandwiches ever. I had the sidewinders with side of ranch as my side. Yum! Absolutely delicious, and I would definitely return again in the future if my travels brought me through this town. read more

Love this place! The ahi tostadas are to die for. Servers so far have been great, never letting us languish waiting for more water or tea, whatever. It does get a bit noisy for us hearing aid wearers, but if you sit outside, it's not too bad. And if it is not too busy, they will sometimes turn down the music if it's so loud you are shouting at each other. I have never had anything there I did not like. There salads are huge, so my spouse and I have learned to split one because there is no way we can finish it on our own. And who wants left over salad? They have always been obliging. My dh also loves the french fries, which is saying something because, unlike me, he is "not a french fry guy"! For those who have written negative reviews, food is very subjective. We love to go out to eat, and this is always a treat for me! I will admit that I have never been there for the dinner service, but lunch has always been great. I will admit that I have never been there for the dinner service, but lunch has always been great. My one complaint is that I really have to bundle up when I go there because they always have the fans going, no matter the temperature outside and I get cold. Jacks is one of 6(?) Sister Restaurants , most of which I have had the pleasure of dining at. Jacks is most definitely the poor performer of the bunch. This is our third time here over the last 2 years and it still disappoints. Our server today was nice , when we saw her. I find it a bit ridiculous to have to flag her down to put in our order when we had been waiting 20 minutes to do so. And to have request a dipping sauce 3 times over a 30min period in order to get it (when I asked for it when I originally placed the order) each time with the server saying "oops, sorry about that" I started with the buffalo wings , which she brought out unsauced with BBQ and Buffalo "because i forgot which one you wanted" - still they were hot, crispy and perfectly cooked so I could overlook the oversight. The rest of the food, ick. The Fries had been over cooked, and came out cold and unseasoned, and the chicken strips also came out luke warm , as though they had forgotten to bring it when it first came out of the fryer , which I wouldnt put past them, seeing as forgetfulness seemed to be the theme.. My friends salad came out with very very little dressing , and she had to wait 30 minutes as well to get another cup of dressing. Yes the whole world is understaffed , but it was not very busy when we went in and there were multiple servers, so the lack of service left a bad taste in my mouth, and the lukewarm food made it all the worse.
