Not the place to go for Crab. Deep fried, Cajun Seasoned sounded interesting. Crab is messy enough on its own, greasy just makes it worse. No longer the succulent treat you'd expect either. It sticks to the inside of the Shell. You can't see what is going on to pick the meet out of the knuckle. So all that body meet goes to waste, it you just but into them and try and spit out the shells. Then there is the Vinegar/Ginger dipping sauce. We opted to give them a second chance as they were the only one who had Crab on the menu last night. So we were just disappointed again. My wife was smart and had the Halibut which she did enjoy though. read more

I have to start by saying I do not like seafood. My family does so on occasion I find my self seeking non-sea food options at a sea food restaurant. I think everyone in my party that had fish was pleased. I had the chicken fettuccine. It was gross. The Alfredo was was too thin. The chicken was under seasoned and rubbery. The noodles tasted like they had been boiled in broccoli water. The waiter was nice but once he dropped our food off he never came back to check on our table. Came on a Thursday evening only a few other guests. Waitress was friendly and good with recommendations. I got the Baja fish tacos and added on the clam chowder. The chowder was as good as the other reviews said and the tacos came out quickly and were delicious as well. Also sampled a local imperial golden ale (IPA) and it was light and refreshing. Pricing was reasonable and over all a great experience. Interior could use a little update but hey good food is good food. read more

My Uncle and Aunt took three of us to dinner a week ago at Jack's. We knew it would be busy so we didn't mind the long waits for drinks, ordering and for the food to arrive. After a 45 minute wait after our order was placed, we finally got a small plate of bread and herbed butter. The butter was soft, the CL bread was cold. I had to ask for refills of out drinks. Everyone fairly enjoyed their meal but mine was pretty horrible. I got the grilled mixed fish tacos which was a blend of halibut and cod. The fish was extremely over cooked, dry, unseasoned and tasted as if they had sat all day. The sauces were ok, the tomatillo being the best of the two however there was only one tablespoon of each sauce in tiny plastic cups. Not near enough for the 4 tacos. The tortillas were soggy. The rice pilaf it was served with this was uninspiring and did not pair at all with the fish tacos. I had also ordered a side of clam chowder which was unseasoned and bland. It did however have nice pieces of actual clams. This came with a small slice of bread with herbed butter, again the bread was cold. The waiter was nice enough but he was so haggard and sweaty that we all felt his pain which is not what a diner wants to experience. He did not refill our iced teas without me asking him too. He did not refill the soda my husband got. The view of the bay was beautiful and that's all I have to say about that. For the price of our tab, I felt very disappointed in the overall experience. I really fell like this place cannot handle busy nights. I'm not certain how long they can keep this place open if they don't figure some stuff out. If you claim to be a fish house you better know how to prepare said fish. If you are choosing to plate your food on large white bowls and plates, toss the plastic cups and put your sauces in glass, porcelain or silver cups. Have a runner refill drinks and keep bread plates full if your customers have to wait an hour for their food to arrive. Along those lines, heat your bread up. You have a decent herbed butter but it does nothing to spread it on thin cold bread. Grill it, warm it, do something to it! read more

I ordered it to go, opened the soup container they put it in and at first I thought it might have been the wrong order because it looked like soup inside. First time eating here and we got our order to go. We got halibut and chips and calamari. the tarter sauce had the consistency of ranch dressing. The halibut was really greasy and the breading was soft almost undercooked. The "chips" were more like potato wedges with no flavor or salt on them at all. Our halibut came with no lemons which helps with the flavor quite a bit. The clam chowder however was to most disappointing part of our meal. My fiancé opened his up and it had a thick layer of grease at the top. There were no potatoes and very little clams. It had the consistency of watery gravy. Overall we spent about $90 and the quality and quantity was very disappointing. For a place that has seafood in the name they sure fell short on some of the big staples. read more

We went for an early dinner and started with bbq oysters which were good. Next was a cup of clam chowder. It was luke warm. No clams. My main entree was prawns and chips. The prawns were meaty and breaded appropriately but extremely greasy, so much so they placed a paper sleeve under them to catch the grease. The fries were crispy, which I like , other people may not. My husband and I celebrated his dad's 91st birthday with lunch at Jack's today. The food was delicious, including the chowder. The best part was that the adorable waitress, Amanda, brought a surprise dessert in a huge bowl with lit candles and we sang to dad. It turned out to be the perfect place for our celebration lunch. Driving through and I wanted seafood being on the ocean. Was recommended by a local. My father had the ribeye. It was thin and rubbery. Don't order steak at this restaurant. I had the sautéed Halibut. It was amazing! It was moist flakey and had a great rich flavor. My sister had the shrimp po boy. It was awesome! Shrimp was perfectly sautéed and the spicey coleslaw is great. Our service was mediocre at best. Our server had several tables but mainly focused on her friends that seated behind us after us. The hostess refilled our drinks after they sat empty. I'd still come back if I come through here again but just for that Halibut. read more

For our anniversary, we decided to take a trip up the coast. As we were heading up to Eureka, a local winery suggested this restaurant for the best food in town. And they were certainly correct! The restaurant is set next to the ocean so of course the views are spectacular. We ended up ordering the Fried Mushrooms for our appetizer and the Fish and Chips for our entree. I will say that this was probably not the best idea because I had heartburn and icky feeling from all the fried-ness we ordered but the dishes were very appetizing. The bottle of wine we ordered really helped wash it down, though :) I also would love to give a shout out to our server Danni who was very friendly and also suggested places to visit and see throughout downtown Eureka and took the time out to do so even while having a packed house. After spending a beautiful day in Humboldt Redwoods State Park, we were famished. Since we were on the Northern coast, we were eager to try some seafood. I actually tried DDDs Paul's Live from New York pizza and a chili dog from Wolf's Dog (voted the county's best hot dog joint) before arriving to this location. But my wife was hungry. She decided on the Seared Ahi Salad to-go. The restaurant sits bayside along a very nice Boardwalk. A marina full of boats can be seen just North of the restaurant. People were strolling along the Boardwalk, some with their dogs. Some patrons were dining outside in the outdoor dining area. It was a nice 73° out. The salad was placed in a styrofoam container. We walked to the nearest bench. She sat down and opened the container. To our surprise, the fish did not resemble ahi tuna at all. Whatever it was, it was over cooked. My wife had me take a bite and it didn't even taste like tuna. Look at the picture I took. That is not ahi tuna. I've seen pictures of other patrons ahi tuna salad and theirs is a nice red, rare ahi tuna. Please give us what we ordered! If you run out of ahi, don't substitute it without informing us! read more
