I used to be a regular at Jack's, but now it's just a rare occurrence. With their prices going up and the portions (and quality) hit or miss, I am far more likely to hit Blaze Pizza next door. On a recent visit, a friend of mine was treating so we went here. I stopped getting their $10 salads along time ago when they continued to serve sad looking greens. As a vegetarian, I eat a lot of salads already. The last thing I want to do is go out to eat and order an overpriced salad that pales in comparison to my own creations and be disappointed. So I opted for the Grilled Portobello Sandwich. The sandwich had a thick, juicy portobello on it. Sprouts, tomato, grilled onion, a little cheese and a hint of an aioli. Not bad, but the bread tasted like it was left too long on the grill and had a burnt taste. Also, the aioli was barely there. But let's face it. You go to Jack's for the Urban Fries, right? The chicken is so dried or overcooked that it is impossible to chew it. And I love Jacks! The employees here are clueless so if you want to order something customized , they'll act like they don't know what you're talking about. I've noticed the portions and presentation are never consistent here. My salad was drenched in so much dressing that the greens tasted like pickles. Trying to support my local restaurant. Having said that, the restaurant still has an obligation to make food the same as if we had stopped in and got in line. Last night was NOT the case. The create your own salad was prepared fine, but not near enough dressing to toss so we had to use our own. Tiny container only about half full. The turkey dinner was inedible and again had more cranberry sauce than gravy. The turkey was dry and the veggies look old and unhealthy. We had to toss it. Not sure what's going on over there but little care was given to our food and they could care less of you have simple things like sauces and fresh sides. I have never had a bad experience at Jack's Urban Eats, for that it deserves a solid 4 star review! I like the freedom of walking up to the ordering counter and basically customizing anything from the menu which includes sandwiches, entree plates, and salads! The menu at Jack's Urban Eats offers everything from Tri Tip sanwiches, chicken pesto sandwiches and so many salad options. I would highly recommend the Urban Fries, which includes fries cooked to perfection, that are nice and crispy, and the fries are smothered with chili oil and blue cheese. We have always gotten jacks for lunch from the Folsom location and we recently moved closer to the gold river location. We've gotten lunch here about four or five times now and every time something is either made wrong, missing or the tri tip is terrible. Several of us used to like the tri- tip sandwich and today It tasted like tough leather. Couldn't even eat it. Not sure why its such a difference but wont be back. He last two times I've come here (both at the Gold River location), the food has been just average. Not *bad*, but just average. Like what I'd expect to get at an above average diner. My California Cheesesteak wasn't very cheesy. The tri-tip inside was a bit bland. The whole sandwich was just "Meh". The mac-n-cheese used to be a family favorite. If I can give this jacks NO STARS I would but yelp made me give them atleast a star . Probably one of the worst jacks. Been going for years and they literally treat me like I'm an inconvenience for asking for extra toppings (urban upgrade) and PAYING FOR THEM. Everytime I tell myself it's the last time I give them another try, but the attitude I was given the other day is ridiculous. I get urban fries I pay for an urban uprgrade which is extra toppings and they never give me what I want. When I go back and ask for the stuff they forgot they give me an attitude as if it comes out of their pay. The manager is a joke!!!! I wish I remembered her name I did call after to get her name from an employee so I can make a complaint. But that didn't even work , the manager gave me a hard time for asking for extra chilli oil like I do every time. She said it's an extra 75 cents as if that's going to make a difference even though when I pay for my meal they charge an additional 1.50 for my upgrade. It's not about the money it's the way I'm always treated. I feel like when I go they strive to make me feel uncomfortable. The girls at the front are so stuck up. I can't even deal like don't work at a job that requires customer service if you don't know how to be friendly. They throw my extra toppings in my bag infront of me and ask if I want utensils to go and throw them in it's very disrespectful. During this pandemic we have done very little eating out, but restrictions have been lifted a tad so we figured we'd try one of our favorite places for a nice salad. We ordered at the restaurant for an order to go. We live in Carmichael and went to this location for the first time. We ordered 4 salads and some cheese bread. It was obscenely busy and no one seemed to be concerned about the quality, just in quantity and getting orders pushed out. When handed our order we confirmed the contents and the server verified the 2 Western steak salads, 1 Steak salad w/beets added and one Santa Fe Chicken salad also with beets. When we arrived home to enjoy our salads with our daughters. We only had 3 salads, neither of the salads had the added beets. The cheese bread was hard/stale. Mind you, we understand that everyone is doing the best they can during these uncertain times...but that was not at all expressed at this location. Was very saddened that we had this low of an experience from a Jacks Urban Eats. Needless to say we will not be eating at this location again. read more

Pretty disappointing. I ordered a Buffalo chicken salad with apples instead of celery and had to pay an extra 50 cents just to replace it. I opened my order and there were no apples at all. The salad was also missing walnuts. We also ordered mac n cheese which was super bland and tasted like regular pasta noodles with no cheese. This place is already overpriced and it seems they can't even get the order correct when people choose to eat at this location. The last time we ordered from them to go, given my fault for not opening the sealed bag, before leaving they forgot the dressing! How do you forget the dressing?!?! No silverware, no napkins. Great customer service in this place. The people are very attentive to your order. I had the tri-tip plate and the meat was great! It was tender enough to eat with a fork without needing a knife. And the marinade complimented the tri-tip serving as well. The place is clean and well maintained. The personnel are constantly on the lookout for tables to clear out, or for helping customers. My daughter introduced me to this place. I guess that makes two of us now that love the place. read more

Took the wife to Jack's Urban Eats in Rancho Cordova off Sunrise Blvd. Been here many times and have never been disappointed. I had the BBQ Tri-tip and she got the tri-tip salad. Both very tasty but if you want your meat rare you have to ask. Prices are in the mid-range but well worth it. They have indoor and outdoor seating which is nice. Outside is great except on windy day.... Parking is generally never an issue. The staff are friendly and the venue is clean. If you are looking for a good meal, be sure to stop in. First things first. I had nooooo idea this place was even here!!! This shopping center is so hidden it's kind of annoying. Most times I got to jacks it's just somewhat disappointing. The portions are small and the food is never up to the hype. I'm pretty ecstatic that I found this location. The lady with blonde hair working the register was super friendly and seemed happy to be there. (Which I find rare at most eatery's now a days). That wasn't even the best part. I ended up getting a California cheesesteak from there sadly with very little hope that it would be good, but it was amazing oh my God it was so delicious! The jacks fries were just on point as well. Coming to this jacks has changed my view on the flavor part. I still wish the portions were a little bigger, but other than that I think this location is the best one in sac!!!! read more

My boyfriend and I were looking for a bite to eat for lunch and we love Jack's so we stopped by. We both ordered chicken strips and fries, and man we were disappointed. It has become very clear that they unfortunately have lowered their standards and quality while raising prices on every item. The chicken strips and fries actually tasted like they came from a fast food chain like Burger King or Carl's Jr. We are so sad since we usually love Jack's, but we won't be coming back any time soon. Man, we go to jacks all the time on Fulton and Fair Oaks but this location has different service. The girl was helping me acted like she didn't know anything. I ordered a classic tri tip sandwich, and she kept saying the BBQ steak one?? Like no. And then I order a salad, the croutons are stale, too many of the stalks in the mixed greens which were bitter, and med well steak made way to well done. At first I wanted the dressing on the side and then she asked again if it should be mixed in, so I said sure just do it. Still added the dressing on the side.. I pick up lunch from this Jack's location almost every other week because it's close to work. Jack's is a good option when you want real food (i.e. not fast food), but don't have time for a full service restaurant. They mainly offer sandwiches, salads and carved meats with hot sides. I have tried most of their regular menu and have not come across something I didn't like. My favorites are the California cheesesteak sandwich, banh mi sandwich, steak salad and urban fries. Urban fries are the must-try item on the menu - they are drenched in blue cheese dressing, chili oil and cilantro. So good! The hot sides are also pretty good and rotate based on what vegetables are in season. My only complaint about this location is that the wait for ordering can be unbearable. There are times when I just leave because the line wraps to the back of the restaurant. This is no fault of the staff, it's just because they're a popular lunch spot. read more

Earlier I came to Jack's and witnessed a disturbing incident. A man was upset about the wait for his salad and it appeared the two young ladies by the cash register were taking care of the situation, being very polite, when the man then cursed at the two young ladies, calling one of them a name I wish not to repeat in front of me and the rest of the customers, and stormed out like a child. I had a hunch he had come here to write a review. Unfortunately the internet has turned into a place where grown adults feel the need to throw tantrums. I am glad "he is not coming back" as he says, to continue verbally abusing the employees whenever there is a slight inconvenience... These young ladies were very polite to me and my friends and handled the situation with class. I am giving the restaurant 5 stars as I was very impressed with these ladies. I'm surprised reading some of the negative comments because Jack's is one of my favorite places to eat. Been there a few times before COVID-19 and and one during. They have a lot of traditional and basic American foods but the food is really flavorful and never bland. I usually build my own salad and they have a lot great options for dressings and toppings. I will also say that that their urban fries are my favorite thing on the menu because of the spicy sauce and blue cheese, which at first I was unsure about but I have come to love. I really appreciate how organized they are as well. Everything is always clean and tidy and I've never had a confusion with orders or anything like that. Of course, the staff is really nice and were all wearing masks and gloves when I was there during COVID. They do a very good job of social distancing even with their outdoor seating (where I sat) and have hand sanitizer available. I would 100% recommend Jack's because there's something on the menu for everyone. read more

Went here for the last time on 02/19/21, been a regular weekly customer for a long time even when occasionally they would screw up our order. Now it's every other order that gets messed up. This last time was the last straw. The first thing I noticed the potatoes were dry, looked like it was from the day before and was missing gravy, the next thing was the bread that seriously looked like it was a week old, not exaggerating at all it really was that bad, wife even got a blue cheese salad with no blue cheese, how does that even happen. This last time was the worse, bad enough that I won't come back. There's no excuse, anyone that could see could tell just by looking a lot was wrong. They just don't care. This was my first time here. I had the polenta with Brussels sprouts and eggs. The dishes are big, you can definitely share it with someone. I also shared the French toast with a friend. The French toast was good, I personally would've liked less stuff on them. They put raisins, walnuts, apricots etc on top. The ambience is casual and decor is rustic. The blue cheese on the steak salad had a funky smell/taste, there were two long brown hairs in my salad, and the steak was not sliced (it was just a few chunks). Never seen Jack's add steak to the salad in chunks, and not sliced, could barely did my teeth in to eat a bite it was so tough. So sad about the continued lack of quality for a $30 salad.
