I had an absolutely AMAZING experience with Anthony. He is new to the studio from Chicago. He used to have his own hair studio in Chicago. He is wonderful. He is extremely attentive and knowledgeable. I was making a pretty big change to my hair, and was so nervous I was breaking a sweat when I walked in. I had long hair, and decided it was time to go short. Knowing how important this was to me, and how nervous I was, he took his time to cut my hair in intervals, going shorter by a bit each time until we were at a length I felt comfortable with. He did exactly what I showed him I wanted. And this is very hard to find. I love my haircut, it is PERFECT!!! He also completed a keratin treatment on my hair after the cut. First off, the building is beautiful inside. There was an elevator that I'm sure was ornate but I decided to take the spiral stairs. I was confused at first because it's one salon that has several different smaller businesses inside with sliding glass doors. I walked in and was offered a drink immediately. I had an appointment with Brandon and 4pm. I walked in at 4 and he was still working on the person before me. I was okay with that because he was taking his time to make sure the customer was satisfied and he only took an extra 7-10 minutes. I've been getting my hair done at a $15 place and thought that I needed to get it nicely done this time around especially since I haven't gotten my hair cut in 7ish months. First off, he took time and washed my hair was superior products than what I use. Although, I think everything has to be better than a giant tub of Costco brand shampoo and conditioner. I got side swept bangs and a little bit of layering in the front. He also did a dry cut after to make sure everything was beautiful. He also gave me great tips on how to keep my hair pretty and natural. The cut is expensive for me but it was completely worth it. He took his time and I came out with a professional looking cut. Long cuts are $80. Because I was a first time customer, Brandon's partner and business associate gave me a 20% discount. I saw 3 returning customers there during my cut. I frequent SF from Chicago, which is probably the second best place to get a blow out from NYC, and there aren't many options here besides dry bar (bleh!). Enter Mandeep. Seriously girl? The best one I've ever had. So after a year without a cut (so much phobia about cutting my long locks), I decided to pull the trigger. I landed and called last minute to get in. Luck is hardly ever on my side but I found my hair cut soulmate with Sara. The most senior barber on their team, they were somehow able to get me in for a late appointment the next day. I will literally fly from Chicago to this location to get my hair cut, and colored. It's that good. I've never had my hair cut by the same person twice in all my life and this place has changed everything. I haven't gotten a real hair cut in over a year, and I've been box dying my hair for about the same amount of time. My hair was mid-back length, thick and I was just exhausted caring for it; never mind the fact I had to use at least 3 boxes of dye at home and it would take me hours to dye and wash my hair....! I requested an appointment via Yelp and a front desk assistant called me within a few hours, and got me in two days later for both a cut and dye with Darren! I was nervous but definitely excited. Arriving and getting checked in was very easy - front desk staff were super friendly. I waited a few minutes before Darren walked over and brought me to a chair. We discussed the type of hair cut & color I was looking for and we got right into it. The coloring didn't take too much time and I received a nice head massage when my hair was being rinsed! The results were absolutely amazing. I love the shine to my hair, the color, and the cut. It's way better than I expected and I couldn't be any happier. 3 reasons why I come back every 5 weeks: 1) Brandon knows ASIAN MEN HAIR! My hair is tricky: poofy, fast growing, and resistant to hair product. Whenever I went to someone who "understood Asian hair" they just my shaved head every 2 weeks or I ended up looking like a gender-ambigious anime character. Brandon cuts my hair so that I can still spike it, and rounds the sides so that I don't have to return for another 5 weeks, saving me money and time. His female clients look amazing as well. I've also seen some great work from Amanda, Sergei, and Damien. 2) Customer service is excellent. I found Brandon via yelp and sent him an email inquiry and within 2 hours received a thorough response. Mario is an excellent communicator when scheduling appointments and also welcomes me at my appointment with a cup of coffee. 3) The salon is well kept and clean: shiny floors, zero dust, no hairballs rolling across the floor like tumbleweeds, nice local artwork, and shockingly no notiecable smell of burning hair or ammonia thioglycolate (smell of perm and the 80's). Overpriced horrible hair cut and an overall frustrating experience... I have mid length hair that was in bad need of getting its layers cleaned up, and with Summer here, I also wanted the back shortened a bit, simple right? So, I went on Yelp and found the most highly rated hair place near where I work and found this place. It was close by, only "moderately" expensive, and had 5 stars out of 155 reviews. How much better could I get, right? I book an appointment for later the same day, head in, and get situated. I tell the hair stylist (forget her name) what I'm in for and immediately she starts making suggestions for changing things and wants to cut my bangs higher up my face and wants to leave the back as long as it is because "it looks right". I had to say multiple times that I *only* wanted the bangs trimmed by a centimeter or two, that this was important to me, and that I wanted them to stay long. I *also* clarified with her a few times that I wanted the back pulled up a few inches because she kept insisting on keeping it long (this was *my* hair getting cut!). Long story short, after a quick shampoo and a long blow dry, she proceeds to cut my bangs almost to my ears, layers the very bottom couple of inches of the rest of my hair, and does the quickest and laziest trimming I've ever witnessed... Not being a person to cry over spilt milk, I decided just to cut my losses, since the damage was already done. The stylist says to the lady at the front, "Just a regular haircut." Sergei saved me today. I had a crappy cut that I just couldn't live with, and I called hoping for a rescue. Sergei got me in the same day and did magic things that made me look 100% better. He has an excellent eye for shaping the cut to flatter the face and head, and he turned a really scary cut into something cute and fun. My bad cut was almost buzzed in the back (seriously- haircut trauma!) and I didn't really think there was much he could do- I was half expecting him to tell me to wait it out. But he managed to shape 1/4 inch of hair to flatter my head and neck- amazing! His sensibility is funky and artistic, so he can give your cut as much or as little edge as you like. He promised me I wouldn't look like a soccer mom and he delivered. I can't recommend him enough, plus he's new to this salon and taking new clients- get in on the ground floor because his schedule is going to fill up fast, guaranteed. I bought a Bloomspot "Brazilian Blow-out" for Brandon Studio, and was actually on the chair when they explained that I was actually getting a "Brazilian Keratin Blow Out" which is the version that you need to refrain from washing for 48 hours. Sitting around for two days with flat dirty hair is not what I planned on, and would have appreciated this being in the fine print, at the least. It was then explained that the regular Brazilian Blow Out has formadahyde in it, as a form of excuse for the bogus buy. ** NEWSFLASH TO BLOW OUT FANATICS ** Those fumes that make your eyes water is formadahyde and ALL versions have it, Keratin, Brazilian, Japanese. If they have to wear gloves and blow fresh air in your direction you have an "aldahyde" in your midst. Check 20/20 or the label if anyone disputes this. The last real blow-out I had was great quality and had less chemicals, thus my eyes did not get irritated, but it was not free of the chemical. Don't be fooled. Beauty is pain and chemicals- just know what you are buying. Before you buy a Bloomspot or Groupon for this be sure you are getting what you want. I ended up washing mine out closer to 36 hours later and I am not as happy with the end-results. read more

-Update- Trevor has just informed me that he'll be working full-time at the Patrick Evan Salon now. -End of Update- I used a Groupon for a keratin treatment with Trevor. Results first: it's been two days (just washed my hair this morning) and 1) my long hair completely dried in 30 minutes (apparently it's one of the benefits of the treatment), 2) it's straight, 3) it's smooth, 4) it's shiny and 5) it's silky! My hair is naturally really thick and wavy and I'm always wanting hair that's less bushy and more tame. This treatment went a step further and straightened my hair! It's not as straight as a Magic Straight (remember those?) because the ends of my hair are still a little wavy. It's like my hair is blow-dried! I'll have to wait and see how long this lasts but so far, I'm really pleased with the results. Trevor was fantastic. BHS has moved to a temporary location at 55 Grant Ave. and they share space with at least one other salon (Patrick Evan). It's just Brandon and Trevor right now but between the two of them, they make it work. Trevor was personable and funny and I didn't feel pressured to talk to him or to make conversation, especially when he was breathing in the fumes from the treatment. They've made the treatment a lot safer and BHS uses a special air purifier so there's a lot less toxicity and discomfort. I know some people argue about the safety of the chemicals but let me say this: if you want straighter, smoother hair and your hair is naturally curly or wavy, how else do you expect it to get straight and smooth unless you douse it in chemicals? There's no "natural" process. The great thing about keratin treatments is that they don't take long (my hair is halfway down my back and, like I said, is really thick and wavy - whole process took about 1 hour and 15 minutes). I had to wait two days to wash my hair (Trevor said technically 24 hours but 48 to be safe) but when my hair looks this great, who cares?! I'm used to the 72 hour rule for Japanese-style straightening methods so two days was a breeze. I totally plan on heading back in a few months to see if the "cumulative effect" of these treatments really holds water. Returning customers get a flat rate of $200. Will update again! Awesome experience! Brandon is very mellow and the vibe in the studio is cool but he takes the business seriously and is clearly dedicated to customer satisfaction. I made a last minute appointment and everyone there treated me great. Glass of wine when you walk in, comfortable waiting area, all cool and relaxing. I wanted some wild colors for burning man and Sergey delivered! Everyone in the salon got in on the plan and they all worked well together but Sergey hit the home run with some super creative ideas and techniques that really translated my vague idea into a super reality. The man definitely knows how to work with color. While sitting there I saw Brandon give a woman some great color. It's no wonder he has his name in the place. Also, there was a cute girl with white hair that gave a few quality men's hair cuts. Seems like a place where you can't go wrong. So my anniversary with Brandon is coming up in a couple weeks, and after 2 years of being my only stylist, I owe him an impeccable review! I now have to reveal my secret about who has been making me look so great these past couple years. So to begin, true story, the first day I met Brandon and he did my hair, I went out to a bar and I got a boyfriend that same day! The review could end right here but I'm going to keep going. That same week my friends described that seeing me they felt as if they were watching the before and after results on a makeover tv show. Five stars all the way! I went for a Brazilian blowout by Brandon and it was absolutely incredible. For a girl that usually opts for a headband to restrain some out of control hair, I might just be convinced to do otherwise aka. leave it down. My hair has never been so smooth and shiny! Definitely psyched about this!!!!!! In addition to having great hair, I feel like I have a better understanding of how to take care of it. Brandon is extremely knowledgeable about hair care and is more than happy to share his 20+ years of experience with his clients. Ask him any question about hair and he'll answer it. The previous day, I went with my friend who got a haircut and asked Brandon for his honest opinion on what kind of (headband-less) hairstyles might look nice on me. It's a tad premature and I'll update, but just want to say, thus far, adoring my Brazilian keratin treatment (Cadiveu: which is supposedly formadehyde-free and not the same as the former Brazilian blowouts) by Trevor! Hair is super soft, straight but not pin-straight like the japanese method I've had (a lot) in the past. But it's been (ha) one washing, so we'll see how it fairs. Doesn't feel at all damaged, definitely not crazy pin straight. Hopefully it lasts a few months. Living social deal, easy to book (new customers can't book online, so called, left message, called back same day, booked within a week). Trevor is super friendly, chatty but not overly so, seems to be very knowledgeable about the product, process, and hair in general. He's young, but has been hair styling for 7 years already, moved from North Carolina, so you know, a sweet southern(ish) boy. :) Loved the head/neck massage. Process took about 2.5 hours, but I do have a lot of thick just below shoulder length hair that takes forever to blow dry. It is an odd studio, although they are looking to move. I called and booked the appointment after I got the voucher from LivingSocial the next day. I was so lucky to get the open spot in the next week. Brandon Hair Studio located in the heart of downtown, just across from Neiman Marcus. Very convenience location. The salon was so pretty, neat and spacious. Everyone was so friendly and sweet. Amanda was the stylist to do the blow out for me. Before she started, she explained to me the procedure and the things that I needed to do after the treatment. The whole process took two hours. Stylist Trevor - Superb I was referred to Trevor last week after my stylist of 6 years moved on from her Financial District salon. I value a quality cut and a convenient location. Score on both with Trevor. The studio is an easy hop from BART/MUNI and an easy walk from anywhere in the Financial District or Union Square area. Trevor provided a warm welcome and took time to get to know what I wanted in a hair cut. After listening to my input, he washed my hair and then gave me a wonderful cut. He washed my hair a second time after the cut so that I was fully satisfied with the salon experience. I found Trevor to be well trained, professional, engaging and friendly. Where to start. First Brandon is a sweetheart and he will go out of his way to make your experience a pleasant one. I called in on tuesday to redeem my brazilian blowout coupon and he got me in on thursday after one of his customers cancelled. I am totally rocking my new short cut by Trevor. Thanks - I am loving it. Used my living social deal and took a chance on a new stylist. I am very glad I did! I don't get my hair cut often as it grows slower then a snail can crawl. Online booking wasn't working but I did get an appointment via email and they were able to work with my time restrictions. The studio is very close to the montgomery street bart station and is right on Market. The little pocket dog chilling in its fluffy oversized bed is pretty adorable. The building is pretty unique. The second floor is filled with these really small studios I guess artists of all kinds rent out. So don't expect some huge salon - the studio is just two chairs, a couch, and nice decor. read more

I randomly found out about Brandon Hair Studio and after seeing all the positive feedback it has on Yelp, I decided to check it out. That is the best hair salon in the city and I definitely would recommend it to anyone! (I did already actually recommend it to all my friends who've been asking me for a good hair salon.) I was extremely happy with the Brazilian blowout. It lasted three full months and the whole experience was amazing. Trevor is a cool guy and he knows what he is doing! He explained all the steps of the treatment in advance which made me feel really comfortable. Earlier I posted a negative review on BHS due to a less-than-perfect experience with one of BHS's newer stylist. Within 12 hours I received an e-mail from Trevor with an apology and offered me many options to fix my hair problem. (Keep in mind, I'm from the East Coast so I couldn't just go back to the salon and have Trevor fix it on the spot) Trevor's customer service was impeccable. I am really impressive by his quick and caring respond. Although my first experience was less-than-perfect, Trevor saw my review and quickly try to resolve the issue immediately. This shows that BHS really care about their customers, customer's experience and their salon's integrity. With their high standards and exceptionally impressive customer service, I can say it with confident that they will be continuously improving their business model and soon be one of the top brand in their industry. Hair type: Asian straight long hair I have been a bouncing from one hair stylist to another for the past few years after my regular stylist moved back to Japan. I went to Brandon Hair Studio based on Yelp reviews and Michaelyn cut my hair exactly the way I wanted. She was careful not to take off too much. I wasn't looking for anything fancy, I just wanted a pretty straight forward, layered haircut. I'm happy with the result and I can tell Michaelyn did a great job, because it's growing out nicely and staying in shape. They gave me 20% off for being a first time customer. Nice! I waited to write this review because I thought it was 4 stars (sort of funky small place, and my hair was cut shorter than I wanted). But after living with the cut for a couple weeks, I have to say: 5 stars all the way! Great price, really nice stylists, and Brandon gave me a cut that I'm in love with. And tips on caring for my baby fine hair that has turned it glossy and healthy again. I'm sold. Just got a cut by Mary Alice. Love. It. First time trying out the salon. Excellent cut! Came in with a huge mop. Gave her some direction about what I liked, and told her just to make it look sexy, and bam.. she nailed it. Lovely personality, and just spot on talent. Total natural. She trained at Vidal Sassoon in London. Will *so* be back. The salon is brand spankin' new, yet totally cozy. Facility is clean as a whistle, and everyone on the staff is extremely pleasant. I am new to SFO and needed a good stylist.. Mission accomplished! Thank you so much Yelp! If you have not been, you need to go to Brandon Hair Studio. Brandon is amazing! He is personal, professional, talks you through everything. he takes his time, encourages your opinion and then makes your hair look beautiful. I should mention I was the last appointment of the day and there I never would have known. I never felt rushed. Brandon cut my hair, highlighted my hair, and added pink peek a boo extensions. He let me have a say in the highlight placements and extensions. I even decided that I wanted less then we had originally talked about and he was fine with it. I have had the same hair dresser for 15 years, but I am pleased to say I have made a change and Brandon is my new stylist, colourist, and extension artist. If you haven't been, you need to go. You will be pleased you did. You will also get a little discount for being a new customer. It was honestly the best hair cut and highlights I have had in years. Thank you Brandon!
