This is a fan favorite local recommendation. It is a super quirky really fun decorated place. This is my first time visiting this place and ohhhh boy absolutely delicious! Alligator cheesecake is absolutely fantastic, it is kind of like a crustless quiche so good. We got the tuna special and oof that sauce was divine, I wanted to lick the plate. The blue cheese with the steak was equally good. And finished with the coconut bread pudding....my mouth is salivating. Also the watermelon mojito is everything, get that 100% Staff are so sweet too!

Cajun cooking at its finest! When I think of the NoLA food scene, Jacques-IMO's comes to mind. Every thing I ate here (from the complimentary savory cornbread to the succulent redfish) exceeded my expectations! The restaurant itself is vibrant with art and disco music blared through the intimate dining setting. Come early in order to get a seat or be prepared to wait. Either way uou will not be disappointed!

YUMMY!!!!! The corn muffins were delicious...sweet and crusty with this garlic butter drizzle. The watermelon mojito was very refreshing and was stocked with muddled fresh watermelon. The duck and andouille sausage gumbo was ok...I prefer mine a little more hearty. The "cheesecake" was delicious! It's similar to quiche but more savory. The grouper iberville was perfectly cooked. My favorite sides were the stewed cabbage and the mashed sweet potatoes. My hubby had the Austin Leslie fried chicken and it was great...4 pieces, you can choose dark or white meat or combo. The place is like an older house transformed into an upscale dive...don't freak out about walking through the edge of the kitchen to get to the dining room. The servers were very attentive and everyone was helping each other out.

Come here for guaranteed high quality specialty creole food in New Orleans with quirky art and on point with Nola's style. Everything here is one of a kind! The night started with the best appetizer I've had - corn bread. They did an amazing job with this. The blackened redfish with crab chili mayo was spectacular, I wish I was a local so I could eat this often. Austin Leslie's fried chicken was obviously a home run and the shoestring fried were perfect size and crisp. I had a blast at this quirky establishment and walked around to take pictures of the murals and paintings. My only issue is this is far away from downtown but I say the trip is worth it every time!

Jacques-Imo's is one of those places that locals will gate-keep. They don't take reservations for parties less than 5. Seating is a little tight in spots but workable. The menu is a good mixture of standard creole comfort food. My companions and I walked in on a Friday evening and were told it would be a 45 minute wait for a table if 3. However, no more than 10 minutes later, we were seated. When I say we could have ordered everything on the menu, we could've ordered every single thing in the menu. Of note, we had the crawfish and alligator sausage cheesecake, pork ribs, deep fried roast beef po-boy, Aunt Leslie's Fried Chicken, and lamb shank. Not pictured was the bread pudding which we devoured without picture. The group traveled to New Orleans to try out time of the best cuisine the city has to offer. In my opinion, Jacque-Imo's had it all; good food and good service.

I have been wanting to eat at Jacques Imo for a while and I was not disappointed! Service was very friendly and our server was so helpful in parsing out which dish I should order (I was stuck between four different fish dishes). Based on their recommendation, I went with the Pan Fried Gulf Fish with Pecan Meuniere and really enjoyed it! As a pescatarian, I was a little limited in the sides I could order, but they were so nice and helpful in telling me which sides were paired without meat. The sides I ended up with were the mashed potatoes and the show string fries, which two potato preparations in one meal is a first for me, but both were excellent so no complaints here. In fact, the shoestring fries in particular were magnificent. Each entree is also served with a small salad and corn bread that is to die for. I also had a hurricane cocktail (for the first time!) and enjoyed it.

This is hands down one of my favorite restaurants anywhere. I will crave this fried chicken forever I swear! So glad a local told us about this place because wow. Our server Gretchen was so friendly and provided excellent service. The inside is unique and has such a cool vibe. What an absolute hidden gem off the beaten path. This will be my staple every visit to the area (which is often)!

The hostesses were extremely rude, they didn't acknowledge us upon entry to the restaurant. They remained focused on their conversation they were having and randomly looked up at us several times and continued to chat and at one point they started calling names for tables without even asking us if we wanted a table. Fast forward to getting added to the waitlist and finished a seat at the bar for a drink while waiting, I saw someone who appeared to be a manager and got her attention to inform her of the situation. She apologized and made sure we got seated and even sent over an appetizer on the house which wasn't my angle . My goal was to assist the staff on training as this place is well known however people (me particularly) don't support and spend their money where they are tolerated and treated rude. Fast Fast Forward Our food was amazing we had several dishes and the star of the show was the Red Fish. We got to me Jacques he came through jumping up and down and dancing bringing the mood all the way up in the restaurant. He sat with us for drinks and we took photos. - Blacken Red Fish is amazing - Corn muffins are like your great grandmothers recipe - Fried Grits with corn grits was tasty

Loved loved loved this place. While in town for work, someone recommended three places to choose from and this one sounded like my kinda place. It was off the beaten path, cute, quirky, with the absolute best team of servers, and the most flavorful and delicious Southern cooking you could hope for. We were there on a weeknight not long after opening so we were able to get a table without waiting - whew! I had the cajun bouillibaise with mashed sweet potatoes and coleslaw and had a smile on my face the whole time we were there. The bread pudding dessert that was not on the menu was also phenomenal. What a treat. The owner came through and chatted with some regulars and then we ran into him on the street going back to our car. Nice fella. Great restaurant. Highly recommend and can't wait to return!

Definitely worth the trip out of the city, about 15 mins away. Everything here is so good can't go wrong, you can get a drink at the bar before they seat you. They also have a bar next door. Service was perfect and the vibes just gave New Orleans with the decor and music.

Favorite restaurant in New Orleans hands down. Have been multiple times, only thing that would make it better would be if they took reservations. But with how small of a space there is that would make them impossible to get. So be peep to show up early. I have waited 2 hours before. But Maple St is a nice area you can go get drinks while wait. And the food and atmosphere is so worth it. Classic Cajun food that beats out any restaurant in the area. I got the crawfish etoufee which always gives you a good amount of meat and is one of the best etoufees Ive had. Venison was also really tasty and a good choice if you are looking to try something new. The Brussels sprouts were super good for an appetizer. Always will be coming back!

First things first, go! Every Uber driver or tour guide will recommend this place as somewhere to eat while in town, and I totally agree! There is a wait, even though I was just dining by myself and had made a reservation. I waited about 30-45 minutes, which is why I gave them four stars. But after waiting, the service was good, and the food came out quickly. It is a quirky restaurant with a lot of things going on (decor and unique ambiance of restaurant).

Fantastic food. Great atmosphere. The only drawback is they Donny fake reservations for groups smaller than 6 and you often have to wait 90 minutes to two hours. Even with that, I still recommend it because the food is worth it and the staff are awesome. read more

Busy? Yep. Noisy? Yep. Long streetcar ride? Yep. Worth it? Absolutely! We were there on a Wednesday evening and the wait time was over an hour for seating for two. They take reservations, but only for parties of five or more. Once we got seated at a neat little table near the front window, we started slavering over everything on the menu. Alligator and shrimp cheesecake? Amazingly good and interesting. But the piece de resistance was the Eggplant Pirogue - a whole peeled eggplant stuffed with shrimp, scallops, fish, mussels on the side, parmesan and who knows what else - it was outstanding. The atmosphere is festive - it's New Orleans - the service was cheerfully solicitous and wonderful, and we were happily stuffed when we left (with a carryout for lunch the next day too.) I rarely give five stars, but this is a rare one. read more

Not famous since 1996. Love coming to this local favorite. So delicious! Start with some complimentary cornbread and add an order of fried green tomatoes. Served with remoulade sauce, they are so good. So many great seafood choices for entrées. Our favorite is the potato crusted drum served on a caper beurre blanc. The grouper cauliflower and pan fried drum with pecan meunière sauce are also great dinner options. Entrees are served with a spinach salad and a choice of two sides. The mashed sweet potatoes and butter beans and rice are great accompaniments. Love the eclectic dining room. The bar filled with so many "things" assembled together is just plain fun. Have you ever wondered where to hang a painting when you run out of wall space? Just look up on the ceiling which is plastered with paintings! Thanks to Mike for the great service for an early Saturday night dinner. Limited dining reservations are available, but we were able to score an early table for five at 5:15 before the weekend dinner surge without calling ahead. read more

My fiancé and I wished we found this sooner during our trip to New Orleans because we definitely would have returned for another dinner. A staff member at the B&B we were staying at suggested Jacque Imos and we couldn't have loved it more. After being in New Orleans all week and trying all kinds of restaurants, this was the best one we dined at! We got there & had about an hour wait. We put our name in & hopped over to the Maple Leaf Bar next door while we waited for our table. When we got seated, we walked through the kitchen which was neat so we got to see some food being prepared. We sat in the back dining room and just loved the whole vibe in this place. They were out of their venison entree which we wanted to try but our waiter apologized and sent us over a complimentary app which was the alligator cheesecake. We were going to try this anyways but it was a great way to start the meal. We loved everything we ate - the cheesecake, snails, crab stuffed shrimp, mussells and our entree that we shared. The server had the timing of all the food down so flawlessly - he would bring one app out as soon as we finished the last one. Overall - loved the food, service and wish we had more time to stop in again before we left! read more

While in New Orleans, my wife found this place and knew I'd like it. She said it was really nice food and I didn't have to be so dressed up... So, I took off my shirt and threw on my Metallica shirt. We found parking out front, by their sign that said "Warm Beer, Lousy Food, Poor Service"... This was my type of place. While waiting inside, an older man came up to me to talk about Metallica. Told me he saw them a bunch of times, especially in Mexico, and that all the members, except the drummer, come in there when in town... It was that moment, I thought is this the Chef/Owner? We joked, he told us we'd love the food, and eventually our table was ready. We started off with shrimp and alligator cheesecake. Wanted to try something unique and it was so great. Looked like cheesecake. My wife got crawfish etouffee and I went with fried chicken. Everything was great. Was the chicken the best I ever had? No, but it was really good. I just loved everything about this place and since it's a bit further away, I feel I'd be here all the time if I was a local. Told locals that I knew in town about it, because it's one of my favorite places. read more

What an amazing find. The ambience of the restaurant is something to behold the decorations and the layout unique. There was a lovely girl named Amber. She was the waitress what a great server the food that we got was also extremely good and fresh. We have absolutely no complaints. Everything was amazing! Came with a party of five and was able to get squeezed in. So first, no reservations which is kind of a sad panda situation but hey, they can command that kind of demand so good on them. Literally everything we put in our mouths was great. The corn bread they put on the table had a little spicy zip which was a great amuse bouche. Their gumbo was different but still good. (They put potato salad in it which was admittedly strange but still good). I ordered a potato crusted fish which was crunchy and light in an amazing sauce. Friends got the redfish and alligator cheesecake. I'd trust anyone to order anything and have faith that they'll be happy with what they get at Jacques I Amos The only complaint was we all ordered the special cocktail which was a watermelon mojito and it did t really work with the straw. One of my favorite spots in New Orleans, it's the coziest restaurant with amazing service. We tried the bbq shrimp, shrimp creole, venison, and rabbit pasta as main dishes and the alligator/shrimp cheesecake (it's not the sweet kind if you're wondering lol), jambalaya, and liver. No complaints about anything at all, it was all delicious. I was nervous some of the dishes were going to be spicy because my tolerance is pretty low, but everything was super mild. You get exactly what you ask for and what the name says here and it's done in the best way possible. Service is great, I loved our waitress but didn't get her name! She was super sweet and welcoming, would come back just for her. She also gave us a creme brulee and bread pudding and those were amazing also. The food is a lil pricier than other places in the city, but worth it in my opinion. Will come back anytime I'm in the city! read more

I don't think I've ever given anything a 5 star rating as there is always room for something to improve. BUT.... This place would be as close to 5 stars as anything out there. Six of us went and all ordered something different. Tried a bit of all of that plus 2 appetizers. When one of the guys that had been here before mentioned it. I asked, what's good on the menu? He said everything. He wasn't lying. Worth every penny. Great staff. Great food. Great feel. This being my first trip ever to Nawlins, it felt like I imagined. The atmosphere of Jacques-Imo's was everything I expected. Go if you ever get the chance. read more

Came here after hearing about the gator cheesecake and had to try it! Loved how there were complimentary corn bread muffins that were sweet and buttery! - jambalaya: moist rice, flavorful, and spicy, the sausage was good! - duck gumbo: the duck was super tender and not too gamey, honestly tasted like chicken, rich and creamy gumbo - gator cheesecake: it had small Gulf shrimp on top that complemented the cheesecake, it was like a quiche, very cheesy, the gator tasted like a normal sausage Overall a fun way to try gator, a cute vibe in the restaurant, and delicious food!!! read more

Amazing! Get away from the strip and venture into uptown for an adventure! The food was spectacular! We did family style, fried chicken, red beans/rice, Grouper, Brussels, rabbit tenderloin, shrimp/alligator cheesecake! Try it it's awesome! Our waiter was fantastic! Watermelon mojitos Dessert.... Service to our group of 6 was fantastic! Nice restaurant that you can feel comfortable in jeans or dressed up. The food stands out and the portions are large. Everyone gushed about how impressed they were with everything ordered from the appetizers to the main dishes. The cornbread was a nice starter. My friend got the eggplant dish that was a battered fried eggplant boat filled with a variety of seafood. Such a New Orleans vibe dish. Also, can't go wrong with the fish options. read more

Phenomenal food and service. Was there with a large party and everything we shared was amazing. Interesting interior and a cool walk through the kitchen to get to the back dining area. Food was so good none of it stood a chance at a photo (except this beer). A definite return stop. read more

Had a great time at this restaurant. I got the corn bread and split it with my group. It smelled amazing and tasted so good! I also got the gumbo and crabmeat stuffed shrimp. Both were excellent. If you want to get tipsy off one drink, get the rum punch! Overall, it was a great dining experience. read more

One of the best seafood restaurant you will find anywhere. It can get crowded, and getting a table can be a pain, but it's still one of my favorite restaurants. I make it a point to eat here at least a few times a year despite only traveling to nola a handful of times a year. read more

i really enjoyed this place the last time i was here back in 2016. so we decided to go back! we were able to make reservations for dinner. when we came here, the place was packed! but the staff was super organized and it went smoothly. that complimentary cornbread was still sooooo good! that butter, oh my! so glad our server asked if we want more... yes please! i ordered the crawfish etouffee. it was really good. but it came out like lukewarm, not sure if they were waiting for all the dishes in our table to be ready, but yeh... lukewarm :( my friend that also got the same dish said the same. i think everyone else pretty much like their dishes too. as for side dishes, i decided on butter beans with mashed sweet potatoes. butter beans was good but it was kinda salty. as for apps, their special beef tips with grits was really good! the fried green tomatoes was only ok, the sauce really didn't have that much flavor. service was great! read more

Jacque-Imo's Cafe in New Orleans is quite an experience! We went there for a work event and had an absolute blast. The food was spot on! I had the BBQ shrimp (Wow it was good!). The service was great. We had about four or five tables and they had given us a handful of staff to take care of us, and they did. It was a great event and the restaurant matched in every way! If you want a ridiculously unique menu in a dive bar environment, look no further. Alligator cheesecake, fried rabbit, and a barrage of seafood with creole roots. The wait staff was extremely nice, providing details while navigating allergies, solid recommendations and friendly attitude. I had rabbit for the first time in a restaurant, country fried venison, and fried chicken. Everything I ate was cooked well and I would do it all over again. If you are going, know that the wait can get pretty long, on a weeknight, it was 45 mins. Also check out the prices, as they are steep, but everything on the menu is great. Overall, disappointing . Went on a recommendation from someone who lived in New Orleans several years ago. Dive bar vibe which is ok if the food was not so expensive. They do give you a lot of food, two sides per entree and a complementary spinach salad except that the food is extremely underwhelming. Except for one entree, everything lacked seasoning. The sweet potato side was atrocious, it was watery and super sweet. The expensive entrees didn't have much to recommend either. The red fish was watery and the spices burnt. The sauce was ok. The fried chicken was terrible. The crawfish etouffee was ok but again lacked seasoning, had a slightly burnt undertone, and not worth the price. Our server was fine. Amazing food and amazing service! Stephan was a wonderful waiter; I just finished a travel nurse assignment down here and he gave us a complimentary sausage/alligator cheesecake and salad to celebrate. The 'cheesecake' was delicious. I would've never thought to order that, in a million years, but it was flavorful and so mouthwatering. The atmosphere is funky and so authentic; it reminds me of Austin before it got all gentrified. Jacques-Imo's Cafe is a super popular restaurant serving comfort food / Creole cuisine with special creations like shrimp & alligator sausage cheesecake. [Parking]: Street parking only and you will need to find a parking machine to enter license plate. Free parking after 7 PM or else the rate is $4 for a maximum total of 2 hours. Our party came at 6 PM and I was able to find a street parking spot just a block away from the café. [Waiting area]: The atmosphere for the waiting area is a dive bar setting. Our party checked in at 6 PM and was told the wait is approximately 85 minutes. I ended up getting a text at 70-minute mark. Reservations are available for parties of 5 or more up to one month in advance. Otherwise tables are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The restroom at the waiting area has to be one of the smallest unisex restrooms I have ever visited. [Menu]: Each entrée comes with a house spinach salad & choice of two side dishes (mashed potatoes, mashed sweet potatoes, corn maque choux, cole slaw, red beans & rice, potato salad, smothered cabbage, butter beans & rice, and shoestring French fries.) My friend said you are able to order ribeye steak off the menu and you will just need to ask the staff about it, but honestly my friend didn't read the menu in details because ribeye is listed on the menu. *** Complimentary garlic corn bread: A pretty decent starter. House spinach salad: One of the best salads I have had in recent years. Tender spinach + sesame based dressing (slightly sweet) = perfection. Austin Leslie's Fried Chicken (dark meat with mashed sweet potatoes & corn maque choux, $25.95): I wasn't too sure what to order at first, but all of signs pointed to this comfort food and I was very happy with this dish. Absolutely amazing fried chicken - chicken was high quality, juicy, and lightly seasoned. Sweet potato was really good and corn tasted savory too. Definitely a must order dish here. *** 4.5-star on food, but bump down due to (1) slightly slow service (2) inconvenient parking, (3) small restroom, and (4) at least one-hour wait during weekends. Nonetheless get those fried chicken - you won't regret it. P.S. - My friend said watermelon mojito was really good and my friend learned about it by overhearing a conversation behind our table about the drink on how it wasn't listed on the drink menu. read more

Okay. Meh. Mediocre. Bar food disguised as highfalutin cuisine. It tasted like it too. At least the bartenders were friendly and picked out good drink suggestions. Clearly this restaurant caters to the Tulane University crowd. Lots of college students, both patrons, and I think some of the staff may also be students. Not sure, the dark setting made it hard to tell. Come for the drink, walk out with the souvenir cup, and nothing more needs to be said. read more

Came here for an early dinner on a Friday evening. They get pretty busy so I'd recommend coming at more of an off time if you're looking to avoid a wait. When looking into restaurants for my visit to New Orleans I immediately put this on the list to check out when I saw they offered a shrimp and alligator sausage cheesecake. I ordered the cheesecake and a bowl of gumbo for my meal. My server offered to have them come separately even though they're both off the appetizer menu, so I saved the cheesecake for "dessert". I thought the gumbo was great, super rich and the perfect size for an appetizer before a meal. The cheesecake was good, but quite different than I expected. It was much more like a Cajun mac and cheese casserole. It's probably better that it didn't truly resemble a cheesecake, but certainly less novel. Overall I don't think you'll come away disappointed with a meal here, but it stands out a bit less than I was expecting compared to similar options in the city. Particularly given my final cost was around $35 (with tax tip etc)for 2 appetizers. If you live here or are on an extended visit I think they're worth checking out, but not an absolute must. read more

In all of my trips to New Orleans I say "this will be the one trip that I try Jacques-Imos". Never happens. I am always staying in the Quarter and it is a 52 minute streetcar ride away on the St. Charles line. And BOY is that ride ever worth it! I finally made it there TOday! Do you like alligator cheesecake, duck & andoille gumbo, deep fried po boys, and coconut bread pudding? If any of these trigger saliva to be excreted from those taste buds of yours, the answer is a resounding YES, regarding whether or not you should make the trek up St. Charles to visit this place. Great atmosphere and great service. I will say today was very odd. It was unseasonably chilly in New Orleans (50some degrees) and unseasonably NOT crowded for the month leading up to Mardi Gras. We watched numerous videos and reviews of this place and none of them really compared to what we expected. Expectations were high already but they exceeded them across the board. Between the cornbread which melted in your mouth, to the alligator cheesecake appetizers, to the carpetbagger steak, and everything else we enjoyed we could not say enough. Portion sizes are ridiculously large so bring an appetite! Service was 5-Star! You won't be disappointed! read more

The service and recommendations from the staff for local eateries were spot on! The food was good and so was the service. My favorite was the coconut bread pudding. The must try is the alligator cheese cake and soft shell crab. The red fish and the bbq shrimp were good. The restaurant has expanded and opened up for more diners. The area itself is easy to get to by ride share or street car. read more

If you ever get the chance to eat here, please do! It's a must! Their alligator cheesecake will melt in your mouth. You will close your eyes and just wonder how someone could make something so delicious like that appetizer! Life is nothing before you try this alligator cheesecake!! Everything else is just as fabulous but that cheesecake is a staple on the menu! Also! They give you free cornbread before. Definitely try a watermelon mojito! The service is great here. This is an awesome restaurant! The food was amazing, portions were large and the menu was extensive. It tends to be crowded but getting their on a weekday when they first open would help with the wait. It's located in a small business area so there are things to do while you wait. My best friend and I came here for our last night in NOLA. It was on my list of "must try" restaurants. It did not disappoint! The restaurant is small but deceptively larger on the inside. We had to walk through the kitchen to get to our table, which was a first for us. The kitchen is small but efficient! My friend ordered the crawfish and alligator sausage cheesecake, and I ordered the stuffed shrimp. Both were delicious! I was surprised that the shrimp wasn't heavy or oily. Are there any less busy times to go?

Im not sure; I was only in town for a bit. I think it stays pretty busy. However, they are super-efficient. We were told our wait time would be 20 min, but we were seated in less than five.

I sat at the bar because no reservation. I had the fried shrimp, yams, mac and cheese & green beans. My only complaint is the yams texture. (It was kinda like baby food, I like mine still a little whole and not so purreed but flavor was on point- didnt hold it against them.) It was nicely presented and the server took excellent care of me. I was too stuffed to order anything else.

We didn't get a whole tour of the restaurant, but it felt like a big mansion with several partitions, rooms and etc. Lighting was dim, a bit dark and intimate, but the atmosphere felt so calm and chill compared to Bourbon Street nearby. We had no problems whatsoever and when it came time to make the infamous dessert, she popped out from behind the bar to put on quite an amazing show! Food/Drink: I started out with their Lobster Risotto and it was fantastic. Creamy, hearty and BURSTING with flavor! I absolutely loved it and loved how it was a smaller portion as an appetizer. For my entree I with with the BBQ Shrimp and a side of their grilled asparagus. Delicious through and through. Portion, presentation, flavor and everything was just top-tier. No complaints. Value: This place won't break the bank, but it's not cheap eating either. It's a good date-night spot so be prepared to spend, but if you do it right, you won't blow your budget. February 11, 2015, my Brother-in-Law and I drove past your restaurant while in route to purchase a boat and motor from a local Houma resident. I've lived in Louisiana my entire life, 61+ years. For many years Bou & Thib jokes were only shared, enjoyed, and understood by those of us who live in and LOVE the Great State of Louisiana. Even though either Bou or Thib were always the "butt" of the joke, we'd all be ready to fight, at the drop of a hat if anyone, were to say anything negative about our State, our Lifestyle, and the way we love and care for one another! We love and cherish our culture, people, way of life, and especially Our Food! To be perfectly honest, the first thing that crossed my mind when I saw your restaurant and sign was that it might be strong on advertisement and light on the food. However, once I completed all the necessary paperwork and had everything notarized, I decided to try to find your restaurant and see if the food was as good as advertised. Understand I'm heading westbound, out of town and only had an approximate location in mind. I asked John Welch, the owner of Joe's Boot's about the quality of your food and he said it was very good. He also told me to look for your signs and which bridge would take me to the side of the highway where your restaurant is located. We went inside and were immediately welcomed by a waitress and directed to a booth. From the friendly waitress, to the oysters on the half shell to the half fried crawfish and half étouffée, we had an exceptional experience. While not a chef, many people tell me I'm a great cook. As such, I know the difference between food that's tossed to the customer for them to eat and food that's been cooked by people who care about the product being served. B&T's obviously belongs in the latter. Although my family and I live about 220 miles north in Central Louisiana, I plan to make another trip to Houma so my wife and daughter can enjoy a great dining experience as well. My hat's off to everyone I met at your restaurant and am thankful you're continuing the tradition of serving only the finest and freshest Louisiana seafood available. I went to a bachelor party in New Orleans last weekend and we went to Jacques-Imo's for dinner on Friday night. There was about 15 of us. The food was very good but the low review is for the service if you can call it that. Our waiter was definitely on drugs and what happened during our dinner was the craziest thing I have ever experienced at any restaurant. We were in the room next door to the main part of the restaurant and I went to use the bathroom in the back which is connected to part of the kitchen. I saw my waiter and another worker stepping on roaches back there. Then I overheard my waiter tell another waiter "that he had a J problem at the table next to the stained glass window" (my table) and flicked his nose to the waiter. Now, I was 80% sure my waiter was an antisemitic meth-head. What happened next confirmed it 100%. I went to smoke a cigarette outside and when I came back in the waiter was literally cursing out my table. Someone in our group's meal came and the waiter asked whose it was. We told him we didn't know so he started cursing us out. We told him to relax and he just kept flipping out. It ended up being one of our party's meal but he was outside. The manager and another waiter came over and apologized. They gave us a few drinks for free and that was it. The same waiter then came back to our table and threw the order at us & told us to go f*#% ourselves. He was then outside telling people " if this was the real world". I asked the other waiter if he was going to be fired and he said no. The restaurant has signs up in a few places that say "Be Nice or Leave". The wait staff should take their own advice. read more

This eatery is one of my favorites. I have been going here for years, and every time I do, I order the redfish and the alligator cheesecake. This time around, I decided to try the fried chicken, and it tasted much better after being topped with some Crystal hot sauce. The atmosphere and the refreshments are also essential components of the experience. Kevin D., who served us on our most recent visit, provided us with a disappointing experience. Kevin exhibited apathetic behavior, appeared disinterested, and avoided making eye contact with us as much as possible. In addition, he did not inform us about the deals that were being offered. After placing our order, we were disappointed to learn that the restaurant had recently changed its specials while the server was servicing another table. Kevin disappeared for extended stretches of time and was not particularly sociable or pleasant in general. Given that Jacques-dishes Imo's cost between $20 and $30, and given the restaurant's renown, the staff members who interact with guests should be held to a higher standard. We will come back, and we do hope that the quality of service will improve in the future. read more

Ill start off by saying that if you are not familiar with New Orleans that this is the type of place where people seem to always take friends and relatives when they come to town. It's a unique restaurant that has a great reputation. Unfortunately, my last experience was not that great. I ordered the cowboy steak and basically got a lump of fat. The explanation was that this type of steak is typically ONLY fat. Really? Because Ive never been served a $40 steak that was 100% fat. My girlfriends dish was ok but nothing to write home about. The side sweet potatoes were bland and nothing special. The bread before the meal was very good. I cant say not to go here because of this experince, I would still maybe recommend it, but I wont be going back. Not just because of the steak but because the time before that was less than stellar as well. For the money I would rather go somewhere else. Others I know seem to agree with me that it has gone down hill a bit. If you do plan on going, be prepared to wait unless you go early as it a VERY popular place. read more

I just went to Jaques-imos last Friday for my best friend's batchelorette party. It was absolutely FABULOUS! First of all, we had a reservation and they sat us right away. They gave us two complimentary appetizers (the rabbit, and they boudin-which were very tasty). They also gave us free dessert and lemon drop shots!! We also had the alligator cheescake (outa this world), the fried oysters (great) and the calimari (also delicious). I ordered the stuffed fried catfish which was wonderful. Also, tasted the blackened catfish (which was the best thing on the menu). The people there were more than nice and the service was fantastic. Jack is very friendly too he took pics with us as well! My wife and I have gone to several of the 'better' restaurants in New Orleans this trip, and this one was "out of sight". We tried their shrimp and alligator cheesecake, wow - flavorful, the cheese did not overpower, the shrimp and sausage was generous - a 5. Blackened Red Fish - my wife is extremely critical of how her fish is prepared. She asked for low, no salt salt - they did it, she was EXTREMELY happy with the freshness, flavors, and presentation - she gave it another 5. The service, all of them - yes the service was a "team" concept where any of the waiters would serve you, check on your comfort, and genuinely cared about your experience all without overpowering your desire for privacy and a satisfying experience - 5. The wait for a table was a great put off. We waited 2 hours for a table. If I have to wait that long to get a table, it needs to be amazing food. I was not wowed by the food. The food was good but I feel you can get similar food at the same quality at other restaurants. My friend and I shared the alligator cheesecake. It was fine. I think there was more hype to the appetizer than was needed. I had the Chicken Pontalba. The entree has a lot of food. I wish there was more mushrooms. I felt a little overloaded with the potatoes. Jacques-Imo's was fine. I think if you have a short trip you have better options. It carters to tourist. You have to walk through a tight kitchen to get to the dinning room. The first time we went there and found better than others in this city ...This place was the best dining experience that we've had in New Orleans, it's worth the wait!It was crowded when we arrived, and I gave the hostess my number so they could call us when our table was ready. There were no stupid buzzers, and we were free to walk around Oak Street and chill until our names were called. It was a very convenient system, and I wish more restaurants used it. The food was inventive and perfectly prepared. The service was very attentive. The atmosphere was funky and fun. I had the Amberjack and it was awesome! My wife and I visited NOLA for the first-time and after doing our research we had to come here for lunch. We took a trolly and a short walk to this really cool spot. The place is warm and inviting with a hip decor. You walk in and immediately are greated with with big smile. We started out with their complimentary corn bread that I had to restrain from requesting seconds of. I knew that I would have to leave room for what was to come. Then I went straight for the Aligator Cheese Cake with Shrimp. Damn that was great. Savory cheese cake rocks! Now I'm ready for the Stuffed Quail. I never thought I would enjoy a dish so much. So after living here for 2.5 yrs for law school, I finally took my boyfriend here for his birthday, right before I was moving away from NOLA (his review is below). I have heard nothing but how amazing this place is, but that its $$$, since i got to nola...honestly, i was surprised at how casual it was, but i guess thats part of the theme about which i was unaware...my food was subpar, absolutely tiny for the price (which wasnt as much as i thought it would be from how amazing and 'fancy' i'd heard it was), and certainly nothing extraordinary. Despite becoming heavily advertised to tourists, Jacques-Imo's is still one of my favorite spots in New Orleans. Decadently delicious food, awesome service, great drinks, in a one of a kind atmosphere. There isn't really anything similar anywhere else. If you only go once, try to score the table outside. Don't miss out on the alligator cheesecake which seems expensive for a small portion, but it is very heavy, filling, and equally delightful. The bar is also an awesome stop if you don't want a full meal. The bartenders always have a good time, and may be obliged to throw you some cornbread to nom on. This restaurant turned out to be more casual than I expected for the price point and reviews. The place looked like a dive bar. The service was unremarkable and met standard expectations. The blackened redfish dish I ordered lived up to the hype and my friends enjoyed their meals as well. A notable downside was the inconvenient layout inside the restaurant. Walking through the kitchen to reach our table was an unusual and off-putting feature. Additionally, the location of the bathroom right next to the kitchen was a questionable design choice. It was AmaZinG! Some people are talking about wait times and reservations BUT, if you'd like a beer or cocktail while you wait, Maple Leaf Inn is next door and the hostess will come and get you! We had apps because we shared a dzn oysters at Cooter Brown's early. The rabbit was so tender with the white spicy cream sauce. We also shared the Jambalaya and it was a clean but still seasoned taste. I highly recommend it. We shared the Seafood Gumbo, which was loaded with succulent shrimp, oysters and a whole crab! This is one of my favorite restaurants in New Orleans. The food is really good. In fact, the food is excellent. The welcoming, competent, efficient faculty is actually better. I love all of their serving staff. They're awesome. The food is also excellent. Alligator/Prawn cheesecake is out of this world. The Stuffed pork chop is also exceptionally good (Sometimes, the pork is a little overdone - maybe a little tough - but it's still really good.). Their fried Chicken is VERY GOOD. I am a native of New Orleans and I have worked in the service industry for over 20 years. The only good reviews on this place are people visiting from out of town. So I realize that they do not know how bad this place really is in comparison to many of our other restaurants. Jacques-Imos= Bad service. VERY mediocre food. Horrible presentations. Looks like slop on a plate. OVER PRICED. Drunk obnoxious owners who patronize and ridicule there own staff. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE.. Me and 3 friends came here. Me and my boyfriend have never been to New Orleans. Me and my friends girlfriend got dirty martinis and they were amazeballs! We were sitting and ordering fried green tomatoes as our appetizer when the table next to us recommended the alligator quiche. It was SO GOOD, definitely need to get that if you ever come here. All of us got different entrees and there wasn't a bad one on the bunch. They looked just as good as they tasted! So everyone says that this is the best spot in NO. Go here if you want to over eat a ton!!! We left feeling super uncomfortable. We showed up at 630 and the wait was 45 minutes. By the time we were getting sat, I heard that the wait could be 3 hours. I would NEVER in 1000 years wait that long to eat, definatley not here. It wasn't terrible, just not worth all the hype in my opinion. I ordered the lamb sirloin, which was awesome! Totally recommend that if you're gonna go out there. read more

Fun place. We went on a recommendation from a friend while visiting New Orleans. We stayed in an airbnb within walking distance. The food was good, a little rich but try the alligator cheesecake. Funky inside, small bar area. We didn't really care for any other places on Oak street for drinks so we stopped at a place about 12 blocks away on Maple Street for cocktails/wine before going & again after! When I went to Jacques-Imo's I had fried chicken and some duck and andouille gumbo. I thought that there was great food there. The gumbo was a light color with bits of meat and vegetables floating around. It was mildly spicy with a good bit of pizzazz in the flavor.
