Stopped by Jajaja for some plant-based comfort food and the vibes here are just as good as the menu. The interior (Photo 2) is gorgeous--warm lighting, beautiful tile work, and a bar setup that feels both upscale and cozy. It's the kind of place that works just as well for a date as it does for a solo lunch at the bar. We ordered the Nachos (Photo 1) and they were massive. The presentation in the colorful ceramic bowl is a nice touch, and they don't skimp on the toppings; the vegan chorizo and corn had a great kick. We also tried the Empanada, which was perfectly flaky and served over a bed of greens with some great dipping sauces. Pro Tip: Even if you aren't vegan, the flavors here stand on their own. We did a mini tour of vegan restaurants in NYC lower east side which led us to Jajaja Mexican on the Chinatown border, as we were craving nachos and margaritas! And this restaurant filled our need for delicious food and drinks! Truth be told we stopped in for a quick lunch so we just ordered the nachos with added guacamole. So delicious! The chorizo crumbles added a ton of flavor. There is not much cheese flavor to them which was missed but there was a delicious crema drizzled over the perfectly fried tortilla chips. Along with nachos we had drinks...3 to be exact. I had a strawberry margarita which was heavenly. My husband had a prickly pear Paloma which was refreshing. I was craving birria and this was one of the Mexican restaurants nearby that I had never tried before, so we decided to check it out. Unfortunately, it wasn't the best experience. I tried to order the quesabirria for two, but was told it was too big to fit in a takeout container. I asked if they could just split it up into 2 containers, but they either didn't understand my request or said that they couldn't do it for some reason. We ended up having to pay for 2 separate quesadillas with an upcharge for birria, which was more expensive. We also ordered a chorizo burrito and a chimichanga de birria. Although 3 of the orders were supposed to come with consomé, we were only given 1 small container that was barely enough for a single entree. The burrito was good, but the birria entrees were very underwhelming. With the lack of consomé, the food tasted a bit bland and didn't have any depth of flavor. The chimichanga also didn't have much meat in it. With the high prices and how disappointed our group was with the overall quality, we probably won't return here. read more

Jajajaj! Who's laughing now?!? Laughing from pure joy at this place! I love it here so much! From the minute I rode my bike across the bridge in unreasonable goth shoes and they welcomed me with the test batch of homemade horchata, I knew it would be a long and beautiful friendship together! I even spent a lovely Galentines here in 2021 in the cold and yet we had the best time. I have brought so many friends here for catch ups, visitors, even birthdays and even date night with my boo! I can't help myself but get the nachos. Incredible! This place is vegan and yet everything is also incredible. People will not be missing the meat when they come here. At least not among my friends. The ambience here has the warm weather and classy feel. I love it! It's elevated yet comfortable. The cocktails are also on point. My friend and I came recently for New Year's Eve for lunch and it was free first margarita Tuesday! Bring it! Jajaja Mexicana has been on my list for a while, but I didn't feel the need to try it until I went with a friend with dietary restrictions. Not to say Jajaja Mexicana didn't look good, I just couldn't justify paying manhattan prices for vegetables. First impression when I walked in, Jajaja Mexicana is similar to many brunch places in Manhattan with boho-esque decorations, plants, and lots of natural light. Service is friendly and chill. My friend, who is gluten-free, opted for the pollo coco while I tried the crispy pescado tacos. My friend enjoyed the pollo coco tacos. My crispy pescado tacos were nice and crispy as the name suggested and boasted a refreshingly flavorful, mildly sweet, savory, and acidic combination of flavors. Paired with the salsa provided and the hot sauces on the table, the tacos made for a good appetizer size. The only thing we didn't care for at the table was the horchata which was a little too sweet. While I understand the great craftsmanship that goes into vegan recipe development, for the portion size and price I don't think I'll be back anytime soon. Maybe I'll stop in to try a dish or two as a snack but I don't see myself leaving full unless I get more food/spend more money. read more

Awesome vegan spot in LES. Came for a quick lunch with the wife. We had been eating a lot of meat lately and wanted a meal without. Decor was light and refreshing inside. Awesome menu offering a full bar a vegan dishes. Tried the "ceviche". Obviously it wasn't anywhere like seafood but the ingredients were light and the lime made simulated a similar experience. The chimichanga was good and filling and the frozen drinks were tasty. Maritza behind the bar did a great job. Overall a fun stop for lunch! read more

I'm sad to have such mixed reviews on this location because I love Jajaja, but this location isn't consistently good. The enchiladas moles here aren't consistently good. I've ordered it a few times now and one time, the enchiladas were amazing, moist, and pure delicious. But the Spanish rice was dry, a bit hard in some places because it clearly had sat out for a bit and gotten dry, and the serving was half the amount. The next time, the Spanish rice was really good, fresh, and their regular portion, however their enchiladas weren't good. That time the filling was dry, the tortillas were a bit chalky, and there wasn't enough sauce to coat it like they usually do. The service has always been friendly but I wish they'd make the food quality consistently better. Because of that, I'm not sure if I'll give it another try. read more

Outstanding food, drinks, ambience and service! We stumbled across this venue on the way to a Satin Jackets show nearby. I enjoyed a delicious quesadilla filled with mushroom, corn, and vegan cheese, along with a tasty "Watermelon Y Mezcal" craft cocktail. The food was excellent. It arrived still warm. It was the best vegan Mexican I've had. My non-vegan friend also agreed it was delicious and she couldn't really tell it wasn't traditional. We did not go to the restaurant but had it delivered so I cannot speak to the service or the ambiance of the restaurant itself. I would most definitely eat here again. I wish this place was in my hometown. The birria tacos were our most favorite. The churritos were very yummy after I got past the caramel not being liquify but more the consistency of butter. read more

super cute inside, cocktails and food were so yummy too. i got the birria tacos and they were everything i could have wanted from a vegan version, highly recommend. 4 stars instead of 5 because we also got the watermelon tuna tostadas as an appetizer and it was The Smallest Portion Ever for $15. like seriously, it was 4 teeny tiny chips. not full tostadas by ANY stretch of the imagination, i'd argue those 4 chips put together didnt even add up to the size of one normal sized tostada from anywhere else. it was cray. strange too because the tacos were a normal portion and only a few dollars more expensive? food was fire though otherwise but i will not be buying appetizers there again lol read more

A long time ago, I lived here when the bakery that used to be here closed and Jajaja took over. I was sad and more than a decade later, finally tried it. The customer service here is absolutely amazing. Kind, lovely people. I'm not vegan but I will come here just because it's a friendly experience. Decided to try this spot for my mom's birthday and doesn't hurt to go vegan for the day so tried a few dishes - all which were great. Chips and guac were delicious. Our party of five killed the entire dish. Crispy pescado tacos were amazing. Surprised it was squash but they made it just right. The chicken quesadilla and tacos were delicious. Just enough to keep us full. My favorite was the kids menu because the build-your-own-taco option for kids is fantastic. Great way to give them control of their own meal and feel independent. Really cute! I felt very healthy after this meal. The staff knew it was my mom's birthday and I was wondering where the check was because I asked for it a while ago. Lo and behold, they had a major surprise in store! Came out with candles and churros and chocolate chip cookies. And....a card signed by the staff. Unbelievably sweet. That sealed the deal. Jajaja mexicana 7.5/10 Ambience: 9/10 very colorful, trendy yet clsssy vibes Drinks: 6/10 a bit too weak despite being tequila based. We felt like we were drinking juice. The matcha y coconut was supposed to be their best one, but I honestly don't even remember the taste. I believe it was bitter. Service: 9/10 Friendly and fast! They also explained all the vegan options. Food: 8/10 I believe out of all the vegan restaurants I went to this had food that felt the most flavorful and whole. By whole I mean that there is little to no use of meat replacements or extremely processed food. I often feel as if many vegan restaurants focus on making their food taste like meat rather than enjoying the flavors that vegetables have to offer. Jajaja Mexicana was a place that really made a great effort to use plants and vegetables to create a whole meal. I liked the jackfruit tacos the most! The buffalo tacos were not my style because it didn't seem as creative, but if you like fried this would be for you. The queso was really good! Tasted like actual queso, but less sharp. We come here all the time. Showed up at 7:10 for a 7pm reservation (within the 15 minute grace period) only to find out our reservation was given up to a walk in. Reservations should be prioritized and we have never experienced any problems before. You should not come here, specifically because you can't rely on your reservations to be held. read more

A vegan Mexican spot... incredible! I was with my sister and nieces, and this was a grand dinner experience. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating, but we all grabbed a booth inside... and it looks like it's a great thing that we made a reservation! The A/C was up quite a bit, but that is literally my only bad thing moving forward. We were given menus and took a long time figuring out what to get. My sis and I shared the beet and pumpkin empanadas, which were so flavorful and delicious! There was a bit of sweetness, and the guacamole and chimichurri really set it off. My nieces got the tres amigas (chips and three dips), and the sikil pak was the best one -- I've never had it before! Entrees were the real challenge, but I decided on enchiladas verde. I loved the taste of the jackfruit carnitas in it. I tasted my sister's enchiladas mole, which had a slightly different flavor profile going on, and OMG, I wish I got that! The hints of cacao were fantastic. My niece and I shared churritos for dessert, and... omg. That coconut dulce de leche?! It was to die for. I NEED NEED NEED to recreate that. All in all, go to one of the locations and have their vegan Mexican eats. You won't regret a penny. read more

We had an 8 hour layover between JFK and Laguardia, and went out of our way, luggage in tote to eat here after finding it online ..... and it did NOT disappoint! The cutest ambience and most inclusive authentic Mexican food menu. We tried so many things and were wow'd by everything. It was fresh and delicious, abundant quantities and strong drinks. The service was outstanding, we were welcomed as weary travelers with open arms, and our waiter accommodated our luggage so sweetly by putting it in their office. They gave great recommendations and were disappointed to hear we were leaving town so soon as they were about to introduce some new items to their menu. We did get in without a reservation early evening, but I wouldn't chance it again after knowing how fantastic it is. Reserve for your date night or girls night, it's the perfect spot. We'll return again and again, my only complaint is that there is no location near us - please open in Denver! read more

So I was not sure if I should give this 3 or 4 stars. I was not blown away, but the food was ok. Menu items we tried that had fake meat were the chorizo burrito my friend had, and it was pretty good, and the tamal con mole, which was ok! The corn and mushroom empanadas were decent. Service was great and our server explained everything and was patient with all of our questions. The owner or manager came by to check on us and we just felt very welcome here. Finally dined here instead of delivery. Solid vegan Mexican cuisine and drinks. The staff are friendly and decor is an aesthetic. I'm glad I stopped in on a lunch date with my friend. Great for dates or casual meetings. I sat at the bar and ordered the matcha spirit free cocktail and buffalo flower tacos with avocado. Jajaja is the best mexicana cuisine I've eaten in NY. I can compare to California in my opinion. The tacos were the perfect amount of spice and flavor served with house salsa and the bar tender gave me extra hot sauce variations. Then I drank the matcha mocktail which is not listed online and special for dine in patrons. It was smooth and sweet, made to order. This restaurant should be Michelin guided with the unique ingredients paired together. I will continue to dine here. There's interior/exterior seating but can be humid in the summer so dress light. Might be a wait time for seating so you might want to reserve online or by phone if applicable. The service is fast and restrooms are located behind bar. It's very humid in the water closet so don't spend too much time in there. The bar seating has hooks under table to hang belongings. This place has a cool vibe for dates and casual dining. Located right on East Broadway and F train infront of entrance, very convenient. Let this be first choice if in East Broadway for Mexican cuisine. read more

Nachos and tacos and margaritas...oh my! AND it's all vegan! Jajaja has a few locations throughout the city and they all seem to have similar if not the same menu items. This place makes a GOOD margarita, and just one is enough to get you feeling tipsy. Of course, you never want to skip their famous nachos: they are an absolute must! They have a lot of taco options, but the non-debatable best one is the Buffalo Cauliflower (honestly buffalo cauliflower is one of my favorite dishes anyways, and it is done so well here). The other tacos on the menu are average to me, but don't let that deter you from branching out. Other favorite menu items are the Street Corn and the Mole Tamale...but whatever you do, GET THE NACHOS. read more
