We found this spot as we were searching while I'm San Diego. Very close by on the way toward home (LA). Had to make reservations as they get crowded from the sound of it. Parking kinda hard on the street but very friendly valet available. Service at Jakes was great. Our server was super nice and would check on us quit often. Good was very good also. Love love love Jakes in Del Mar! I thought this place would've been too stuffy being right on the beach in this location. When actually it was really laid back and beautiful place to dine and enjoy. The staff was so accommodating to our large party, the took care of us at the bar, our check in, and all through our dinner. It was outstanding to say the least. I order the Painkiller from the bar and it was delicious! I A nice drink to start off the night! I shared some amazing apps with my friends. We had the calamari, Brussels, and the ribs. I haven't had a single thing I didn't love. The seafood chowder is my favorite, and all the staff are welcoming- feels like I'm a regular in my hometown. Jesus made a PHENOMENAL rum cocktail. Not sure the specifics but rumor has it that it will show up on the summer '25 menu. Looking forward to it again come this summer. We had the most wonderful dinner here. Filet, ribs, and calamari were all wonderful. Don't even get me started on the hula pie- highly suggest you save room for dessert here. The cocktails were also delicious. We had the pineapple mule and the painkiller (add a dark rum floater for an extra kick ). The views were spectacular, particularly at sunset. Additionally our server Maggie was the best so friendly, making our dinner even better. Special thanks to Austin as well- we left a pair of sunglasses behind and he went above and beyond to call us and let us know which was super kind. Had a wonderful dinner at Jake's! Jake's is right on the beach just a few feet from the sand. We took another couple for a special meal and so we called about two weeks ahead to inform them and request an oceanfront table. We were seated right at our reservation time at the best table in the house. Just in front of a large window with no obstructions. It was a perfect sunset with 'green flash' (though Jake's can't take credit for that). They have semi-transparent sunshades and a woman came over at just the right time to raise the shade so we could watch the sunset in full glory. The food at Jake's is very good. They are part of a small group of restaurants based mostly in Hawaii and a few in California. The menu is modern Hawaiian or Asian fusion with lots of fresh fish and bright Asian flavors. We shared several fish or seafood-based appetizers and all were delicious. My fish entree was well prepared with coconut rice and sweet chili sauce. Delicious! We finished with dessert, sharing the Hula Pie, which is the signature dish from Kimo's (part of the same restaurant group) and it was heavenly. Jake's has a small but well chosen wine list with only a couple more than $100 and a half dozen or so local craft beers. Since it was a special meal for us I brought a bottle from our cellar and Jake's served it. $25 corkage fee. One criticism is that the wine glasses were rather small and not appropriate for high end wines. In addition to the dining room Jake's has a very active and casual bar area that also serves small plates. One other criticism is the charge ($7) for valet parking. Seems petty for someone who just spent a bundle on a meal (Jake's is not inexpensive). read more

Jake's boats a premier beachfront location. The food is higher end often with a Hawaiian flair not unlike the food on offer at Duke's. After a disappointing meal a few days ago at nearby Il Fornaio, Jake's completely redeemed my hope for fine cuisine with a view in this Del Mar area. The service was good and the food was refined and flavorful. I highly recommend Jake's particularly for special occasions, but don't expect a quiet dining experience as Jake's packs the house night in and night out. read more

I would like to give them more stars, but when we got bumped for a window seat for a "regular" that put a very poor tasting experience in our mouth. They tried to seat us away from the window when there was an open table by the window, and I asked to sit at the window table. When she came back, she ended up sitting another couple and I mentioned that we were here first. She said they had a reservation and I said I had a reservation and I put it in the notes. She said that they don't take reservations for window seats and I said you just told me they had a reservation. I told her I didn't think it was very good form for a restaurant like Jakes to bump one couple for another because of status. They tried to backpedal over it, and eventually sat us in the corner with a partial view. The food was decent, but I don't appreciate being bumped because I'm not a regular. read more

Location, location, location..... Pros: Beautiful on the beach location, open windows. Food was great, filet was good, not amazing but good ($49), they split our salads and and entrée for our guest, no upcharge. Desserts? All awesome, hula is big enough for 4+ people, peanut butter torte is my fav. Cons: Our waiter Trey didn't share whatever he was smoking... Seemed fine at first, but then couldn't remember anything we asked for. At dessert time my sister ordered a cappuccino and immediately walked away without taking anyone else's order, did this 3x and still forgot one of the coffee's. The location is great, the management could of been better, our food server had tables all the way across the restaurant, supposedly they were filling in for another absent server, It took 45 minutes to receive our food. I asked if we could get our appetizers first, that came 40 minutes after we ordered it. There was a table across from us, who arrived 20 minutes after we did, received there food and finished just when we were receiving our food. Same with the group next to us. This is lunch time, need to be more efficient and it was not overly crowded, poor management, I do not recommend this place and the food is just average at best, in my opinion. read more

My overall first experience at Jake's was pleasant and timely. We arrived around 6pm and we're seated within 10 minutes. If you're curious about parking there are meters along either side of the street ($3/hour from 8am-10pm), a public parking lot across the street (idk the rates), and valet parking in Jake's lot ($7). Once we were seated we were greeted by a beautiful view with pink/orange/red sunset beachfront. The ambiance was very incongruent...it had a beach house aesthetic with a romantic/intimate aura about it. Personally I loved it. Our server was attentive although she could have checked in more regarding refreshment refills and the check. The food we ordered overall was mid-- and the family agreed was a bit pricey for what it was. We were out by 7:20pm. Ultimately, I would come back to dine at Jake's if I'm in the area. But I wouldn't go out of my way. I'd definitely tell my friends and family looking for a nice romantic dinner date spot too. read more

We celebrated our anniversary for dinner here recently and had a really great meal. We use this occasion to splurge and enjoy proper surf and turf dinner! It was so yummy! We shared the calamari starter, it was good meaty strips, breaded in very good Panko and hot right out of the kitchen. Our entrees where we'll portioned, seasoned and cooked perfectly. I'm a fan of the chimichurri sauce on the steak. One of the best parts was the Hula Pie for dessert, I would go back just to eat that, perfect sweet ending to the meal. For a Thursday it was a full night, very lively, lots of celebrations happening around us. The service was great. Although I don't come to Jake's very often, I've been coming here for probably 20-25 years now going back to when I was in high school. I hadn't been here in a few years and my girlfriend has never been to Jake's, so yesterday we decided to come for lunch and cocktails on our day off since it was such a beautiful day along the coast. We arrived and were able to pull right up to the valet stand in front. The valet's are very nice and professional and opened my door as well as my girlfriend's door. The valet was only $7 which is a price considering how difficult parking can be and the lot across the street is more expensive. Upon walking in we asked to sit in the lounge area and the hostess offered us a few options either at the bar or at one of the high tables. Upon sitting at the bar we were welcomed by David behind the bar. My girlfriend ordered a michilada and I ordered a Basil Hayden old fashioned. Both drinks were prepared and served to us very quickly and both were perfectly crafted. As we started checking out the menu to decide what we wanted to eat I did notice that the menu has changed extensively since the last time I was here. The food is obviously seafood oriented, but they have a lot of options from shellfish, ahi, salads, fish, etc. While we decided on our entree's, we decided to get some of the Brussel's sprouts to start with. Brussel's sprouts have become one of our go-to appetizers when we see them on a menu, but I have to say that the ones prepared by Jake's might very well be the best ones I've ever had from anywhere. Oftentimes places just to a balsamic glaze which is good, but kind of over-played at this point. The sprouts at Jakes have great flavor, had the perfect amount of crunch and had a very good creamy aioli and that stuff was excellent. I seriously could have eaten a loaf of bread just dipping it into the aioli. For our entrees I opted for the fish with spinach and some kind of rice-like grain. I don't recall what it was specifically called, but the combination of flavor and texture was perfect and everything complimented each other. My girlfriend went with the burger with avocado and bacon and while she wasn't able to finish it from being full, she did enjoy the burger. Everything we ate and experienced at Jake's was perfect and everything I was hoping it would be since it had been several years since my last visit. I would like to come back for dinner to see what menu options are offered for dinner since I only saw the lunch menu while I was there. Fish and chips were good but the pieces of fish were small. The fries are great, and I might come just for the fries if that's what I'm after. I didn't enjoy the tuna sashimi, which was surprising because it's usually a safe choice for me. The flavors were odd and hard to describe. I also wasn't crazy about the burrata and heirloom tomato salad. The burrata was good, but most of the tomatoes were soft and didn't have much flavor. The plate was garnished with what we came to learn was "petite basil" which I believe is just for show, as it didn't have any fragrance or taste. They have a nice patio area that's completely covered but has good views of the ocean. The waiter was very friendly. read more

The first time we went to Jake's it was great, the food was fresh we had a great table and our server was wonderful, she was attentive and nice! We loved it so much we came a second time and it was awful....our food was cold, I had the fish tacos and the chips were stale and the mahi mahi was actually cod that tasted like it was just taken out of the refrigerator and not heated up....the place was loud with a large party next to us and our server was just "distinterested" in the job. He rushed us through the meal, never asked if we wanted desert or coffee, never refilled our drinks, and just wanted to leave...really awful service and I actually still gave him a good tip even though he did the bare minimum and was just not pleasant. I don't know what happened, the place took a 180 suddenly, very disappointing. What can be said about this place that hasn't already been said. We love this family of restaurants, like Hula Grill in Waikiki, but this is close to home and it's wonderful.
