Street parking was a bit difficult to find but valet was easy and only $10. We were seated with a great view of the beach! Service was quick and the food was delicious. Our server was friendly professional and even gave my daughter a free dessert as it was her birthday. The view of the beach maybe my favorite you can simply walk to the water from your table window (definitely not recommending but you're that close it's tempting)

Lovely location right on the beach. Ordered the poke bowl with greens, instead of rice, for a lighter lunch. It was just right with fresh fish and tasty seasoning. My friend enjoyed their burger immensely! And I enjoyed having some of her fries. Reasonable cost for the location and quality food

This seafood is a winner when you are looking for ambience and a good view. The restaurant is overlooking the ocean. We went on a really cool and windy day so we were not able to enjoy the beach. Sitting in the restaurant was great. Food was good but did not really stand out . I would have given them a 3 but gave them a 4 because of the great view, awesome staff and fast service. Seafood bowl - good and tasty, the risotto was a little overcooked, good portion of fish, mussels and lobster Ahi tostada- taste great and a good appetizer to start Calamari - crispy but with too much breading

Location next to beach. Amazing! I don't know if I just keep ordering the wrong dishes or the food is really just average....but it seems like it used to be better years ago. The daily fish plate was fine but it came out lukewarm. I also got email from OpenTable saying that I didn't show up to the reservation which was odd. I guess they didn't check us in on Open Table? Our service today was great, though!

Great service & location is amazing! Tiny parking lot that you have to valet in. Valet is $8 for lunch & $10 for dinner. The guys out there are hustling! Tip them extra. Mai Tai was good but they're better at Duke's. My husband got the mango slushie with rum but it wasn't really a slushy. It was much too liquidy to be a slushy. Had a great flavor though. The fish tacos were good but also better at Duke's. The poke bowl I didn't enjoy. Flavor just wasn't there. I'm not sure I'd return as I enjoy the food much better at Duke's but you can't beat the ambience here.

Jake's Del Mar was our family's favorite meal while visiting the San Diego area! The ambience was stunning, especially around sunset with the beach right in front of us. We started with the ceviche and calamari, and both were really fresh and yummy. For my main meal, I went with the lemon garlic roasted fish, and it was delicious! For dessert, we had the famous Hula Pie, and our table of 3 could barely finish it. It was the perfect way to end the meal. Service was also friendly and fast. Overall, an amazing place for a sunset dinner!

Went to Jake's twice in one week -- once to celebrate our daughter earning straight A's in college, and again for a business meeting. Both visits were wonderful experiences! Jake's is such a beautiful place to enjoy a meal. While the serving sizes aren't huge, the food is absolutely delicious and thoughtfully prepared. I discovered my new favorite lunch item: the steak wedge. I'm not a fan of blue cheese, so I ordered it with a side of ranch and vinaigrette instead, and wow -- it was amazing! I also ordered a virgin piña colada, even though it wasn't on the menu, and it was fantastic. The staff was accommodating, the atmosphere was great, and everything about our visits made us want to come back again. We'll definitely be back. Cheers!

We went to Jake's since it's a sister restaurant to Dukes which we love! When we stepped inside the ambience is a little different (to Dukes) wasn't a huge fan of it but I loved the windows that opened straight to the outside! We ordered the fish tacos which pretty good just had them substitute the chips & salsa that come with it with some fries. We also ordered the poke bowl which we also like just needed a little Sriracha sauce to spice things up a little. My wife ordered a Mai Tai which she thought wasn't all that great & ordered a blended spicy mango slushy which had potential but I felt like it was blended with very little ice (sometimes it just depends on who makes your drinks I guess). The service was good & our waitress was very friendly & attentive. Would I make a special trip to eat here again probably not but hey that's just me.

Hula Pie. I thought we were splitting one three ways, but our friend had other ideas. Which I was thankful for.

Met up at around 8pm with a friend who was there earlier (she had asked for a window table : this was a pro-move). We did have to be a little patient (a little difficult since we were famished) but it was worth the wait. Orders : - ceviche - Surfing Steak (prime sirloin, spice grilled shrimp, garlic whipped potatoes, french beans, calabrian chili chimichurri) - -pan roasted chicken (roasted garlic whipped potatoes, broccolini, chicken jus ) - Hula Pie : ORDER THIS. Do not SHARE. (Kidding... or am I?) (chocolate cookie crust, macadamia nut ice cream, hot fudge, toasted mac nuts, whipped cream) Great ambiance, conducive to conversation (we were there till closing though). Stellar service as well (Thanks, Shance!). ** As of posting, another pro-move from our friend, utilize their valet. Tons cheaper than parking in the public lot across it.

    Appetizer: calamari and shrimp

Good vibe good location. Food was tasty. Staffs were friendly. Love the window seats!

I chose this place for lunch because of its location. It's so hard to find restaurants that are truly right on the sand, so that's definitely a huge bonus here. And if you can get a table in the dining room along the beach, even better. Definitely worth the wait. We started lunch with two mai tais, and they were absolutely fabulous -- classic all the way. The food, however, is where the restaurant didn't really shine. They seemed to play it safe. If you prefer lighter, more understated flavors, this may be the perfect place for you. We started with the ceviche. The guacamole had turned color and didn't seem very fresh, but overall it was still a light and decent starter. For my entrée, I ordered what was essentially a cioppino, even though they call it something else on the menu. The mussels tasted slightly off, though the two pieces of fish were tender and nicely cooked. Unfortunately, the dish really lacked flavor, and I ended up having to salt it heavily. Our waitress was wonderful -- very sweet, attentive, and diligent throughout the meal. Overall, this is a great spot for the atmosphere, drinks, and staff. While the food didn't particularly impress me flavor-wise, the beachfront setting alone makes it worth visiting.

Ceviche- fresh and tasty, I would order again!

Pretty damn nice view of the Pacific Beach here and decided to take myself out after a pretty grueling couple of weeks of work, which included weekends. I like my work immensely, but also need to recharge too. My motto in life is, "work hard, play harder, you only got this one life, make it count." I asked chatGPT to find me a place in Del Mar that has sick ocean views and no matter how I asked chatGPT this question, Jake's kept popping up as number one. I needed some lunch so came in here after 3pm, and it was closer to happy hour. As soon as you walk in, you just see the ocean and it just calms you. I sat down at the bar and it wasnt too busy but with a few people. This place is for grown ups, so act like one. It had a laid back, ocean vibe so very relaxed for sure. Bartender very professional, and very courteous. Poured me a blonde to get started and gave me time to chose my food. There is happy hour here but not too many selections. Today, it was choices of some of flatbreads and a salad and I wasnt interested. Happy hour only Mon - Wed anyways. I wasnt terribly hungry so ordered the ceviche. I love fish, doesn't matter how you make it, as long as its good, I will like it. Ceviche was spot on fresh and yummy and appreciate a bit of avocado added. It was the perfect snack, while watching the ocean view and washing it all down with an ice cold blonde. A perfect gown up way to spend the afternoon celebrating life and how gorgeous Mother Nature is. There is valet parking here which is $8 and peak times $10. I was able to find free 2 hour parking on the street though. Bathroom was clean and everything about this place would bring me back in again. I cant wait to show off this place to friends and family when they come visit me!

    Jake's Reviews in Other Languages

    Ask the Community - Jake's

Do they have a private room to rent for 20-25 diners?

Jake's doesnt currently book large parties or events, but it has information on discussing a future event https://jakesdelmar.com/plan-an-event/

    Do they have happy hour?

No but they have a brunch menu on the weekends

    Valet or self parking?

Yes, it has valet for 7 dollars at jakes, public parking across the street in a lot more.... Go with valet......

What is the corkage fee at Jake's? Thank you!

    I believe it is $15.00/bottle

    Do you have a patio?

Yes they have a patio that overlooks the water

Do you have breakfast during the week?

    Only on Sundays.

    Kid-friendly? Can accommodate a big group (~20)?

You would need to make advance plans for a large group. It is a very popular place, and even with a reservation, you can expect to wait. I do believe they have a kids menu but I did not see any children there when we dined there.

    Do they have happy hour?

I believe they do, I just have been there for lunch YUM and WONDERFUL in every way.

What time is The happy hour specials?

I am not sure since COVID but it was at 5, go at 5:30 and you will not be disappointed.

What their specialty/ what dish you recommend to eat for dinner?

Three things to recommend: Achiote Roasted Fish; Crusted Ahi; Seared Scallops. A personal favorite is the Fresh Fish Caesar Salad when they have the grilled Norwegian salmon. I order my fish grilled medium rare, which they do nicely.

How is the indoor dining environment when it comes to ventilation, i.e. are the windows as well as doors opened for natural ventilation?

Yes, especially if you are seated by the beach front windows or on the patio

    Can our dog comej?

I'm not sure but usually on the patio it's ok.

Do you have to make reservations?

Yes I wouldn't go without one. They might take a few walk ins but this is a reservation spot! Just use OpenTable and it's pretty easy.

    Is it dog friendly?

Unless you have a service dog than definitely not. This is a place that is indoors and most people get dressed up to go. There isn't a large patio area and it's upscale. You may want to try a more casual location! Service dogs are accommodated…

Luckily my friend didn't say nothing was calm got up went to the bathroom with friends to clean up came back & just said, this sucks I just had my hair done. The waiter could have offer a free drink or appetizer at least. Then when the bill came & we paid we noticed all our checks were wrong some of us paid for other people's items. They didn't know how to fix it so we just fixed it ourselves by paying each other on Venmo what ever we owed each other. It was an inconvenience, food was good tho & spot very nice & loved the burger but not sure I'll come back because it is a bit pricey & just expected a bit more customer service wise.

Ambience- the location speaks for itself There is beauty everywhere How can you not be in a good mood sitting here in this restaurant? We sat outside by the water fountain/pond I will say now it would have been great to have music but I don't recall hearing any! Food we started with the coconut shrimp I will say these were a little over done to my liking But the sauce and mixture with the coconut was done nicely without being overpowering. Salads we had the Caesar salad- real dressing so heads up if you prefer bottle version. Nice croutons not big portions. Dinner: my husband as always did the filet with jumbo shrimp, garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus and I ordered the Wagu burger. I am so happy I did too!!! So it was one of the best damn burgers I have had in a long long time! Geez was it good My husband's filet was cooked perfectly he loved that it wasn't tiny! The Mashed potatoes seasoned and flavorful! Dessert: I did a crème brûlée- it was good but if I come back it won't be for the crème brûlée! It will be for that beautiful, burger!!! Despite their over-the-phone assurance prior to that visit that a particular menu item, Crab Stuffed Tiger Shrimp, was available, it was not. I wrote a Yelp review describing our experience that day and quickly got a very nice message (I assumed from management) expressing their desire to make things right but that response was taken down in less than 24 hours before I had a chance to reply. Fast forward to a couple days ago, August 3rd. A much-cherished friend and I had to be in the Del Mar area on 8/3, so a week before, I called them and asked if the stuffed shrimp shown on their menu was available and, if so, were there any time restrictions. The person I spoke to stated that it was available and could be ordered any time we came in. I was so happy to hear that after not being able to get it at the IB location. When we went to the Del Mar location on 8/3 in the afternoon, I tried to order it and was told by the server, who was not at all friendly, that the kitchen was closed until 5:00pm and that we could only order off the Oyster Bar menu. Note that the online hours don't state that the "kitchen" hours are different than the "Oyster Bar" hours. Perhaps that explains why the woman over the phone stated that the stuffed shrimp can be ordered at any time. If this is true, I respectfully suggest they update the hours shown online. Quite disappointing that once again despite reassurances, I was not able to order my favorite thing on the menu that's always available at the La Mesa and downtown San Diego locations (regardless of the time) AND is also on the IB and Del Mar menus. Our server on 8/3 was not the least bit welcoming but everyone else was nice. He came by quickly enough upon us selecting our table but didn't bother to welcome us even or introduce himself and after 15-20 seconds of uncomfortable silence, he finally just asked if we wanted something. To his credit he did bring us what we ordered (except the shrimp of course!) fast enough but after that walked by our table many times and only stopped by once when we flagged him down and once after that to tell us he was leaving and that Gabby would be taking over....maybe hoping that we would close out right then so as not needing to share his tip with her. We were not done yet, so Gabby did take over and she was terrific; and quite a contrast to the original server whose name I never got. I'm a South County resident so not at all likely to return to the Del Mar Brigantine in the future especially knowing the shrimp might not be available. My final comments...and sorry for being so "wordy" here is that the doors facing the racetrack were wide open which let in the very warm and humid air so the ambiance was not comfortable. The restaurant itself is pleasantly clean and beautifully decorated.

Definitely make sure to check out their daily specials! When we visited, they were offering 50% off bottles of wine, which was a nice deal. Here's what I ordered: *Coconut Shrimp: This was absolutely phenomenal! The shrimp were fried perfectly, nice and crispy, and the dipping sauce really brought everything together. I highly recommend this dish and would absolutely order it again. *Shrimp Tacos: These come with two tacos, and each one had three large shrimp, so they definitely don't skimp on the shrimp. You can choose a side, and I went with the french fries. The fries were phenomenal, very crispy. Unfortunately, the tacos themselves were probably some of the worst tacos I've ever had. It honestly felt more like eating a salad piled onto a tortilla than eating a taco. There was way too much sauce, which made everything extremely soggy, and the tortillas wouldn't even stay together. I eventually gave up and just ate the shrimp out of them. I definitely would not recommend this dish. Our waitress was nice and did check on us after our food arrived, but I will say the service was pretty slow overall. My friend and I were catching up, so it wasn't a huge issue for us, and I'm sure we could have flagged her down if we were in a hurry to close out. She did notice that I wasn't happy with the tacos and offered to bring me another tortilla, which I appreciated. However, the soggy tortilla wasn't really the problem. It was the way the tacos were put together in the first place. I would have appreciated a little more effort to address the dish itself after it was clear I wasn't enjoying it. As far as the kitchen goes, the timing wasn't bad at all. The appetizer took around 10 minutes, and the tacos came out less than 10 minutes after that. Overall, it's a cute spot with convenient street parking, and that coconut shrimp alone was worth trying. I was just really put off by my experience with the shrimp tacos. Definitely left a bad taste in my mouth.

My one friend said that this is the only place she can get this particular cocktail and that she comes here just for it. I ordered 2 tacos (Mr. Asparagus and the Baja fish taco). Both delicious and they came with housemade potato chips (which I thought was weird until I tasted them). I was so full but I couldn't not eat the chips because they were so good. One friend ordered the Quesabirria and she didn't love it. It was very strange as it was wrapped in fried cheese. They also ordered the other tacos and loved them. The only one that didn't get a thumbs up was the Quesabirria. I am looking forward to introducing this restaurant to other friends. So good!

Honestly, 9/10 for a veggie taco because the filling was well seasoned and dressed. The asparagus taco was unfortunately a different story. The asparagus was prepared well, crunchy on the outside but still tender when you bite into it. However, it was not seasoned as well and paled in comparison to the Yogi. The shrimp taco was okay. I think they were very heavy handed with the toppings and dressings and did little in terms of the actual preparation of the shrimp. The chicken taco on the other hand was DELICIOUS. The meat was seasoned well and so juicy. The pineapple salsa was the perfect touch!

An experience I will remember for a very long time…read more Last night, my husband took me to dinner at Steak 48, and I must say that it was one of those experiences that goes far beyond an excellent meal. We have been fortunate enough to visit exceptional restaurants in several countries, including throughout Europe, as well as renowned five-star restaurants in Mexico. However, the service we received last night deserves special recognition. Our server, Brian O'Malley, executed every stage of service with a level of excellence that is difficult to find today. His attention was impeccable, professional, warm, and perfectly coordinated. He was always present at exactly the right moment without ever being intrusive, carefully attending to every detail and making us feel genuinely well cared for. The quality of the food was extraordinary, but Brian's hospitality elevated the entire experience to another level. At a time when people often speak only about the establishments themselves, I believe it is equally important to recognize the individuals who make it possible for an evening to become an unforgettable memory. Thank you, Brian, for demonstrating that true service is not simply about bringing a dish to the table, but about making the people seated at that table feel truly special. We will definitely be returning.
