Jake's was great for a late lunch. I got the turkey club and it really hit the spot. Service was quick and friendly.

Breakfast here is real beat! Were local and every 2-3 years or so we give it another shot and it honestly gets worse. *Eggbeaters for scrambled eggs *Fake butter for toast *$1.75 per cup of coffee *Boiled homefries *Gross coated french fries (just cut a potato and deep fry it) *Bacon is paper thin, charred, and literally crumbles when you bite it. Dont screw with bacon, thats in the bill of rights. To charge what they charge for homeless shelter type food is insane. However i will say the place is clean, large, and i have had lunch here and it was decent. But for god sakes stop with all the cheap ingredients, mcdonalds does it better. read more

great breakfast spot in Newtown. Gets very crowded on weekends for brunch, as can be expected. They have a bar area which is fist come fist serve that tends to turn over quickly. We opted for that instead of waiting for a table since it was a long wait. Cheap good breakfast! I had a spinach, mushroom and swiss omelette with hashbrowns for $6.50. Coffee was decent as well. I really like this place! In desperate need of coffee after super storm Sandy I learned one of the few games in town was Jake's Eatery. Somehow the gods of the power grid had spared Jakes and they where operating full tilt. Walking through the door I was greeted by 300 other storm victims in need of food and caffeine. Being a single customer I was pretty sure I would not have to wait the estimated hour, really optimistic, most the others would. I was right a young lady decided she'd be better off sitting hungry in her dark living room then to wait another 5 minutes for her omelet, her seat and breakfast was given to me, at no charge! It was delicious! Thanks nice lady! Thanks Jakes! When I think of Sandy of course my first thought is for the many who have suffered, but on a personal level I will always connect it with the good turn I got at Jakes! OK so your thinking that's all nice, thanks for sharing but get to the point. Alright I will. The food for this level of dining is above average, I have a little problem with the eggs and home fries, there a little greasy on occasion. The burgers, fries and salads are very good and the prices are very attractive. A fully loaded breakfast goes for $5.50, a fish platter with some outstanding Cole Slew is 6 bucks, in my experience that's pretty good! The wait staff is friendly and professional. Jakes is a popular spot in town so if you go on a Sunday morning be prepared to wait a little, not to bad though, your party will usually be seated within 15 minutes. During the week you can expect no wait. Jakes is clean with a nice open airy dining area. While I would guess many consider Jakes to be a restaurant, I get a upscale diner kind of vibe from it? Jakes gets 4 stars from me based on my Sandy experience and the fact that they get it right! You get the impression they've been doing this for a while and they've got it covered. Only ate breakfast here one weekday morning. As many other reviewers mentioned previously, their home fries are truly inedible. Just look around at the other people that got breakfast. A huge home-fry mound will be left on their plate. Their prices aren't to bad but their food quality isn't that great either. The staff seems overwhelmed and not overly friendly. It is also quite noisy inside. Because there aren't many breakfast establishments in Newtown they still manage to attract a crowd. Just don't expect an exceptional breakfast. Always enjoyed breakfast and lunch at Jake's. Nice variety, good food, fair prices. A few days ago we had a " reunion" lunch with nine other former 1953 classmates - one of whom we hadn't seen for about ten years. Again, there was a nice variety, the ;food was good, the prices were fair, but, most importantly the service by both staff and management was extraordinary. They were most gracious in allowing us to linger although we had finished eating about an hour before we left. They assured us that it was "no problem." I go there on a busy Sunday morning, I'm alone and am offered a stool at the bar counter, Works great for me... Until I was ask to slide down one to accommodate another party, then again to accommodate someone else and then AGAIN (which I refused and was looked at like I was some kind of jerk) for a 3rd time. Wish Newtown had decent quick breakfast spots! My wife and I dined here over the weekend and sat at the counter bar, the waitress was awful and barely attentive to us. The home fries were truly inedible, as they were just mushy potatoes. Finally was able to eat them after drenching them in salt, pepper, and hot sauce. Wife had pancakes that were tasteless. So I have been in jakes about 12 times in the last year , normally I would not do this but I have to say the service was absolutely awful tonight the guy was rude laughing my kids question regarding milk which he has a allergy to , which was the first mistake, 2 we ordered our food and he seemed a bit angry when we asked what comes with the platter , now any server out there should know you ALWAYS should know what comes with the meal. The set up of the restaurant is very old school and could use an interior face lift. The staff is friendly, except the young girl who took my drink order. She had an attitude and sat on her phone texting next to me while I was eating at the counter. Then I asked her for more to drink and she rolled her eyes as if I was bothering her from having to stop texting. As I browsed the menu, I noticed there were not many options that were vegan friendly. Also, the menu did not have many up-to-date options like avocado toast, organic foods, etc. Our server was so friendly and helpful when we asked what he would recommend. Jakes eatery is okay at best. It's the same as every other breakfast place and doesn't have anything stand out. I went here with a friend and ordered a Diet Coke and it never came, my friend ordered berries and they never came. At lastly our waitress asked if we were done and we said yes, we expected our check to come but I didn't come till 30 minutes after. Not even a glance over or anything during our meal. Visiting home for the holidays and my birthday, I decided to take my 90 year old grandmother for breakfast to Jake's Eatery because I saw they had great reviews on Google. I walked up to the host to put my name down and I must have been standing in front of him for 3 mins and he didn't even look up to greet me. . Finally he says "yeah?" And I ask, "can i put my name down?" With an attitude, he says "is everyone here?" I said yes and I asked if we can be seated furthest from the door because it was too cold for my grandmother. Before even finishing my sentence he cut me off and said "I don't know, we'll see". We end up getting seated right across from the door. I said nothing about it. But before sitting, I saw that there was another table being cleaned off that was far enough from the door to accommodate us. So i asked the host if I could be seated there. Right away he said no, and I had to argue with him that my grandmother was 90 years old, on blood thinners, and is cold in order for him to say ok. The food was great, our server was great. And those are the only reasons the place got 2 stars from me. If not, it would have been 1 star due to the arrogant host. I just found out through Facebook that the host is actually the owner which is a shame. If you cannot be pleasant when customers walk in to eat at your place, hire someone who is. I should probably give 3 stars but figured I'd go with 4. The food is standard. Not great, but not McDonald's or Denny's. I personally prefer Isaac Newtons and Pineville for American standard dinner. Breakfast I go to a few other places. I won't bother name dropping since this isn't meant to be an advertisement for those other places. As with anything, I always share recommendations. Newtown is in dire need of a 24/7 diner restaurant. Newtons is in the borough; such operations aren't allowed. Newtown obviously allows 24/7...hence 711. Become 24/7, you own that market in town. You don't even have to up your quality, just become 24/7 and you take that market. Ideally be better than Great American in Langhorne. That's about it. read more

I came here with my husband and kids on a Saturday afternoon, for the first time. The food was good and inexpensive. Sadly, the bathrooms were disgusting and inadequate for the crowd, only one women's and one men's toilet each! We love this place and generally eat here 6 or more times a month. The service is prompt, the food presentation is fantastic, food is served hot and delicious. I stopped here today after work with a colleague. They were out of the food item I wanted, I ended up ordering the chicken panni with sautéed spinach. At the time we were the only people in the restaurant. I asked our waiter if he could ask the cook to remove the stems from the spinach. He said if he asked them they would not do this. I should have gotten up and left but instead I cut the stems off myself. My fault I should have left , what lazy and rude cooks and poor customer service. Too many other places to go. read more

Rubbery. Flaccid. Unevenly cooked. These are the words that spring to mind when visiting Jake's laughably named "eatery." The stars here break down as follows: food = 0; service = 2. The young lady who waited on us was courteous, friendly, and quick. She was at our table before we even knew we needed her. The food was also served quickly; unfortunately, this was as much a detraction as it was a benefit. I ordered a Delmonico steak cook medium rare. The kitchen got it half right. Half of the steak was prepared medium rare while the other half was inexplicably medium well. To top off the inconsistent cooking, the steak felt like it was about room temperature. When I cut into it with a metal, serrated steak knife, the meat shredded and the fat resisted. Then, while chewing, the meat melted (like good steak should) while the inextricable fat just slid down my throat in what felt like the scene from Star Wars when Jabba eats that slimy worm creature. My wife's parmesan encrusted tilapia was more parmesan crust and less tilapia. Both dinners came with sugar snap peas that were half warm and half cold and a baked potato that was as dry as toilet paper. Even with butter, eating the potato was like taking a bite of the Mojave. In total, despite the friendly wait staff, Jake's "eatery" will not be on the short list of restaurants to visit next time we are in Newtown. read more

Let me preface this by saying we are frequent customers of Jake's. Tonight's meal was terrible. Mostly inedible. I ordered the pumpkin soup and the stuffed meatloaf based on our waitresses recommendation. My husband ordered his usual favorite sourdough chicken. The soup was so thick it was not really a soup. More like whipped pumpkin. I could not eat it. My stuffed crust meatloaf came out so Burt and dried. The pea pods were also burnt. The scalloped potatoes looked normal however. A bus girl walked by and I told her the meal was not edible. She took it away. For several minutes we sat with no one returning our any idea what had happened. Our waitress returned with another plate, slightly less burnt and less dried out. More edible but not much the top was still pretty black. In addition the Peapods were the same consistency. Our waitress apologized and did make some excuses for the for the lack of quality control. In addition, the sourdough chicken was not at all up to the usual standards. The spinach was on top of the chicken not underneath the breasts. His Peapods were burned too. Our waitress was sweet. However, I told her how much of a disappointment this meal was. She should have offered to take something off the bill. We did not ask. However this review speaks for our experience and I cannot recommend this restaurant at this point in time. Searched for brunch in the Langhorne area, found Jakes and decided to give them a try. I ordered the blueberry pancakes, they were very large, fluffy and full of fruit. My friend had one of their scrambles, it was simply OK, the eggs were brown and the dish as a whole lacked flavor. The home fries taste like they were boiled and then put on the grill to brown, needless to say they were bland and very mushy. read more

They have an advantage because they are one of the few breakfast places in Newtown. The food is pretty good--except their sausage has a really strange taste. I'm not sure what's wrong with it or if it's the fryer but whenever I get it I remember why I didn't like it before. My main complain is the carpet...I know that sounds weird but it is foul. I'm surprised it's not an infection control violation. If they removed it and got a simple and inexpensive fo-wood floor the place would look 10,000x times better. It's that simple!! I think the carpet along drives away a lot of business because their target market (Newtown folks) are generally middle/upper middle class and silly things like atmosphere can be a deal breaker in this area. read more

Lackluster. Not impressed with our breakfast experience. My husband had an omelette, which he said was pretty good. I had the raisin challah French toast special. It was dry and flavorless, even after adding butter, and I ended up eating only one piece out of three (because I was starving). I probably would have sent it back and asked for something else had our server ever returned to our table to check on us. Don't think we'll be back anytime soon, but if we do return, I'd stick with eggs and toast. read more

We stopped in with 35 people to Jake's without a reservation, having come from a burial service at the Washington Crossing National Cemetary. The staff was welcoming and sprung into action. In no time they made room for us, got us seated and took our orders. Most people had not been there before and universally enjoyed their breakfast/brunch. The urban omelette was a big hit with many who ordered it and the coffee and tea refills were on time. Great work! read more
