Oh man, recently I started developing a weird hankering for cheesesteak but couldn't stomach the guilt that came with oozing processed cheese going down my gullet. Now I could've gone to Buster's, a reliable source to satisfy such cravings, but I was in the Mission when this spot came into view. It was already 4PM. Do I dare go in here and potentially regret my decision later that evening? Sure, why the hell not? It was empty when I walked in I just figured I could eat and run without leaving much evidence of my guilty pleasure. I decided to order the $12.99 Mushroom Burger, medium rare, but encased in iceberg lettuce rather than a comfy bun. I caved on paying an extra $1.79 for white American cheese because the grilled onions needed the company. I did bristle a bit at the 75-cent surcharge for mayo since it's a God-given condiment, don't you agree? Stop judging me. The sum of it was tasty, I must admit, and also quite sloppy (Photo 5). But you're not supposed to ask for a knife and fork at a cheesesteak shop. It's the law. Now it would've been wrong to order fries, so I splurged and got the $7.49 Zucchini Sticks (Photo 6). They were pretty decent, not too soggy or oily, and everything's better with ranch dressing. Like a tawdry one-night stand, it gave me momentary pleasure followed by denials of nutritional infidelity. FOOD - 4 stars...sloppy, juicy, satisfying AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...pretty empty in the late afternoon SERVICE - 4 stars...very efficient TOTAL - 4 stars...guess I didn't need that cheesesteak as badly as I thought RELATED - Exploring the Mission? I ride my bike down Valencia weekly and have always wanted to give this place a try. For lunch, it was a one man show so it took like 25 minutes for my order to be ready. I got the cheese steak combo with fries and a drink. The cheese steak was severely underwhelming and bland. The roll itself also felt really small compared to other places in the city and especially for its price. The waffle fries were perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It was just lacking salt and pepper but an easy fix. Overall, I don't think I would come back unless I was in the area wanting a sandwich. Maybe I'll try something else on the menu next time.

Myself African American male bald. This is one of the long hairs found in my food.

Service along with the food. Clams I didn't order certain items while my kiosk receipt stated otherwise. Secondly and mainly hair in my food. Problem is I am completely shaved bald no beard. Attempted to call to resolve and was hung up on.

Staff so nice. It was him and his sister this afternoon.

Best Philly Cheesesteak ever!!!! Oooo. What I ordered: Original with steak and minced grill onions & provolone cheese. First bite I was already in culinary heaven. Mind u I have tried this in many US airports including in Philly and lets just say this one was hands down THE BEST. Bread was perfectly crunchy and I donno what the secret sauce is but the tastes along with the melted cheese on top of the grilled onions n steak meat was pure 8 minutes of heaven for moi. Plus there was a vast array of specialty drinks (I picked a soda bottle black cherry flavored that was delicious n just much better than even bottled Mexican coke) that came with the Original Philly Combo & the PERFECT WAFFLE FRIES. Special shout out to the cashier (sorry forgot your name) he and this nice lady were the chef also. They were so courteous amd kind. I had a Michelin like experience here. Clean, perfect food, and just right service. At the end I cleared my own table and I gladly did so for my entire lunch was only $15.99 plus lu ch!!

    Original Philly Cheesesteak

Absolutely delectable!! Truly so flavorful and comforting. The 8" was a little small, so maybe next time I'd get the 12".

On our recent visit, I wanted my wife to experience their cheesesteak for herself. Parking is street parking only, so good luck -- you'll probably have to circle the block a few times before finding a spot. The place itself is small, with just a handful of tables, but it's the food you come for, not the ambiance. What made their cheesesteak stand out for me years ago were the sweet peppers. Unfortunately, they no longer use the same brand (they used to have San-Del sweet pepper strips in sweet brine). Now they use hot cherry peppers that appear to be canned specifically for them. It's not quite the same as I remember, but still good enough that I'd come back. My wife and I both had the original cheesesteak, and you can't leave without getting their steak fries -- they're a must. We enjoyed our meal, and I'd definitely stop by again if parking's available. This place has been around forever, and for good reason. Give it a try if you're in the neighborhood. Prices are standard for San Francisco.

Instead of poking around Yelp for inspiration, I decided to head out to Columbus Ave on foot around midnight on a Friday; smart move, right? As I sauntered past couple convenience stores, strip joints and pizza shops, I landed on Buster's. The brightly lit exterior and bustling interior piqued my interest. How had I never seen this place before? As soon as I stepped in, the smokey aroma of grilled beef and vegetables gave me hope. Without hesitation, I ordered the mushroom Philly cheesesteak with garlic fries. The to-go order was complete within a couple of minutes, and I didn't hesitate asking for a few square containers. (The sauce selection is admirable) I was seemingly able to walk back home at 3x the speed in which I arrived, and I fully attribute that to the anticipation of my first bite. After my first bite, I knew Busters was legit. The quality ingredients, well seasoned vegetables and crispy fries hit the spot; the portions were very generous as well. Highly recommend this place! And was probably the cheapest meal we had on our whole trip! The service was fast but they didn't seem to enthusiastic about serving people. They worked fast and minded their business. We ate inside and weren't really approached or asked if we were missing anything. Felt awkward to be there .

Metro Caffe has two fake meat options for their sandwiches, either a Boca or a garden burger patty that's chopped up and grilled with cheese and onions! There's a few extra options to add as toppings: extra cheese, extra meat, peppers, avocado, mushrooms, etc. as well as burgers, hot dogs and a good range of sides. I decided to try the Boca burger cheesesteak sandwich while my partner got the turkey. The first thing we noticed was how amazingly soft the bread was, a big difference compared to other cheesesteak restaurants. The sandwiches also aren't huge and overfilled.... which surprisingly is what we prefer! We were able to eat everything and didn't feel like we had taken a bomb to our stomachs, which usually happens after a big cheese filled sandwich. On top of that, the sandwiches were delicious. The grilled onions were good and the cheese melted well and got into all the bits of the sandwich and meat fillings. Our food came out piping hot but not so bad that we had to wait too long before we could eat. The shop is small but there's indoor and outdoor seating and it's close to a few parks and bars that will let you bring in food. Service was quick and the workers were nice and friendly. I corrected her while she was plating in a 'to go' container and apologized that I had asked for wrap. She graciously pivoted and made the 'plate' into a wrap. No problem. And although I made her pivot on the making of my order, she wrote a nice note on the outside of the parchment paper, 'Thank You '. It was a flavorful shawarma wrap and I would stop here again if I were in the area. My only complaint would be to turn down the loud ethnic music, which contributed to the miscommunication. I'm sure I'm not the first customer to not hear what the sandwich maker is saying. If your customers can't hear what is being said, turn the music down!
