Love it. Amaroso's bread makes all the difference. I had the GMO hoagie style which includes garlic mushroom and onions. That was overkill and took away from the cheesesteakiness...I think it was the garlic. Unnecessary but that's my fault for the order. So Jake's had a rewards program that you earned points per purchase and could eventually get a free cheesesteak or other items. I had several points accrued a went by a few weeks ago to collect but the rewards were gone! (Apparently they changed vendors and all the rewards points ppl had were wiped) I asked the staff what to do and they said email contact@jakessteaks.net and the owner reached out to me personally to address the issue! Oh man, recently I started developing a weird hankering for cheesesteak but couldn't stomach the guilt that came with oozing processed cheese going down my gullet. It was empty when I walked in I just figured I could eat and run without leaving much evidence of my guilty pleasure. I decided to order the $12.99 Mushroom Burger, medium rare, but encased in iceberg lettuce rather than a comfy bun. I caved on paying an extra $1.79 for white American cheese because the grilled onions needed the company. I did bristle a bit at the 75-cent surcharge for mayo since it's a God-given condiment, don't you agree? Stop judging me. The sum of it was tasty, I must admit, and also quite sloppy (Photo 5). But you're not supposed to ask for a knife and fork at a cheesesteak shop. It's the law. Now it would've been wrong to order fries, so I splurged and got the $7.49 Zucchini Sticks (Photo 6). They were pretty decent, not too soggy or oily, and everything's better with ranch dressing. Like a tawdry one-night stand, it gave me momentary pleasure followed by denials of nutritional infidelity. I ride my bike down Valencia weekly and have always wanted to give this place a try. For lunch, it was a one man show so it took like 25 minutes for my order to be ready. I got the cheese steak combo with fries and a drink. The cheese steak was severely underwhelming and bland. The roll itself also felt really small compared to other places in the city and especially for its price. The waffle fries were perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It was just lacking salt and pepper but an easy fix. Overall, I don't think I would come back unless I was in the area wanting a sandwich. I had started to give up on the hope that I would have a decent Philly cheesesteak here in the Bay Area (I lived in Pittsburgh for four years). However, I learned about Jake's and decided to give it a try to see if it would be the place that finally satisfies my cheesesteak craving on the West Coast. I ordered the Jake's cheesesteak with a side of waffle fries. The sandwich was quite tasty and the addition of chopped pepperoni and bacon with the steak mixture was something I haven't seen and added some great flavor. The hoagie roll was good quality and what you get in a classic cheesesteak, which makes sense since the bread is apparently from Philly. I wouldn't say this cheesesteak was the best one I've had in my life but it was definitely one of the better ones that I've had in the Bay Area. The waffle fries were pretty standard... good but you could tell that they were made from frozen. I live in the South Bay and wouldn't necessarily come all the way up here for the food. However, if I am already in the city and craving a cheesesteak then I would definitely come here. The fact that they are open so late is also a great plus. read more

These are not great cheesesteaks but they are open late and they have a large selection of overpriced beer and beer-adjacent beverages. It's the best kind of comfort food, the kind you don't regret until you're 3/4 done. The tables are sticky, the TV is loud, the cooks' radio is louder. Very unpleasant encounter with one of the managers or owners however ... he knocked over a drink when he set down a sandwich on our table, which spilled all over our food and personal items, and then just walked away and stood behind the counter smirking as his counterpart attempted to help, eventually. I'm working nearby now so I decided to try Jake's. I've been wanting to for a long time. The jury of taste buds has spoken! The verdict is unanimously FRIGGIN DELICIOUS!!! I got the Cheesesteak with mushrooms, wiz and spicy peppers. If you can't handle some real heat get the milder ones. I wolfed down every bit and on a cold day this was perfect. Best Philly Cheesesteak ever!!!! Oooo. What I ordered: Original with steak and minced grill onions & provolone cheese. First bite I was already in culinary heaven. Mind u I have tried this in many US airports including in Philly and lets just say this one was hands down THE BEST. Bread was perfectly crunchy and I donno what the secret sauce is but the tastes along with the melted cheese on top of the grilled onions n steak meat was pure 8 minutes of heaven for moi. Plus there was a vast array of specialty drinks (I picked a soda bottle black cherry flavored that was delicious n just much better than even bottled Mexican coke) that came with the Original Philly Combo & the PERFECT WAFFLE FRIES. Based off someone else having the same problem I am relieved. Tonight my partner ordered from here and immediately my stomach turned after the first bite of a hot dog. I have had a stomach ache since and I'm unable to get rest/sleep. It was also lukewarm and didn't taste fresh at all. Worse I've had in my life. I ordered by grub hub a cheesesteak with mushroom and whiz. I put to make it mild. It was soo spicy hot that I started getting sick and went to the bathroom a lot after eating just half a sub. Gave the other half to someone that loves spicy and even she said it's a five alarm hot. TLDR pick-up order was 38 minutes late. Ordered a pick-up order with ONE HOUR of advance notice with a pickup time of 12:05pm. Got there on time and they told me "20 minutes." When I pointed out that I'd made a scheduled order an hour ago they just repeated "20 minutes." I went for a walk around the neighbourhood. When I got back 20 minutes later, they said, "5 more minutes." It of course took longer than 5 minutes. I sat there for nearly another 15 minutes. At first I was worried about the lack of cheesiness, but I think it worked out well this way because you taste the steak first and then the cheese. Waffle Fries: These were surprisingly awesome. Every ridge and cut was crispy. Yet still soft inside. They put on more salt than I would have elected to do myself, but it kinda worked in an indulgent way. I want to give this place another chance. I came here to try a burger, the Jake's Western Burger. It came with onion rings, bbq sauce and ranch. I had asked for the bbq sauce on the side but unfortunately it didn't come that way, no big deal tho but there was also barely any ranch in my burger. The burger itself was pretty good. I ordered a Jake's Cheesesteak with American cheese and fried zucchini on the side. The zucchini was cold, mushy, bitter and didn't taste fresh. The cheesesteak wet (not toasted as specified), mushy and very disappointing. I threw half of it away. The delivery person "Fernando" refused to hand me the order, so he left my dinner near the gate by the street. WTF! I guess walking up 1 flight of stairs is too difficult.
