By far the best value and most flavorful Mexican restaurant we experienced while in the area. Prices were very reasonable and portions were big and tasty. Spouse ordered the combo plate with taco and cheese enchilada. The rice and beans were VERY good. The taco had a crispy shell and was not soggy. All ingredients were fresh and firm. Seasonings on the ground beef enhanced the flavor of the meat. Cheese enchilada had a red sauce that was flavorful and all the cheese was melted. My order came out in exactly 5 minutes. Thats about 5 eaten chips into the appetizer. I ordered the lunch portion Burrito Tipicos. That means I got one burrito and a fried tortilla cup filled with guac, lettuce and salsa...there were no beans or rice. Its not good practice to complicate small orders. Went for a late lunch today 2:45. Walked in got seated and watched this waitress wrap silverware for 10 minutes or so then she got up walked over to my table and almost confused asked if I wanted to order a drink , sweet tea. She came back five minutes laters with my tea. Now at this point there are maybe 15(?) customers most of whom were sitting at the bar. She took my order before 3:00. About 15 minutes later I asked for some more tea and asked about my order, she said she would check in it ,a Speedy Gonzalez. She came back about 10 minutes later and asked me if I was ready to order yet. I told her she took my order 25 minutes ago and she was shocked. We always stayed away from this place because my wife likes Mexican Food but not hot. I don't mind a little heat now and then. I think it might be the jalapeño pepper trademark and the name that scared her away. Last week I brought home a Grande Burrito and Fajita nachos take out. She liked it. If you are going to speak a language to talk trash other people, make SURE they don't know the language, SPANISH!!!!!! I finally had to talk to a manager in order to get my food even made!!!!!! The waiter asked me if i even still wanted my food 20 minutes after EVERYONE at my table had finished eating. Had to explain to the waiter no less than 7 times that we were still missing food! Asked for to go boxes as everyone else around me was done eating. The man tried to give me silverware!!!! I had to yell at him in Spanish to get what I needed! This location is always perfect. Piping hot food and ice cold, strong drinks. Came in at 4 on a Wednesday, seated immediately and our server was excellent. (Claudia). Best carnitas tacos ever. We are an older couple who recently revisited Savannah. Parking is limited in Savannah and we chose Jalapenos because there was a parking place near. well, it was fun. Pull up a seat to the bar.. your first trip you you will already family. It is impossible to drink alone in here. With $2.50 32oz drafts Saturday Sunday and Monday and less then $3 for three beef tacos everyday you won't feel rushed to leave. Sandfly is my favorite area in dine in Savannah. I never had an issue with jalapeños until I went on a Monday evening the the bartender took an unexpected tip gave a fake apology. I consulted with the supervisor she laughed in my face and stated what do you want me to do fire him. I should have said yes but I am honestly not that type of person. I called the next day to speak with the actual manger her name was milda she was very rude and did not care she stated it was only $3 and it's nothing else she can do... so if you want to be stolen from this is the place you would enjoy. The Sandfly jalapeños has become a staple in our life. We will typically go at least once a week. The service is impeccable! When we have guests come into town they alway comment on how fast the service is and how good the food is. I have never once had a bad meal here and the menu has options for all. I don't write reviews. I actually NEVER write reviews, but I felt I needed to write this one. I went in for dinner and was seated rather quickly, well when the waitress came to take my food order instead of asking what I'd like to eat, she went on to tell me the horribly graphic story of how she cut open her finger cutting up lemons in the kitchen and went into extreme detail to explain how bloody the kitchen was, how she ran to grab paper towels to keep the blood from "spilling" out of her finger, and how it was so bleeding for so long that she had to give her tables up to another waiter because she couldn't serve food for over an hour. That Story alone almost made me get up and leave because I lost my appetite, but she went in to another story of how she got mad at her husband for not taking her to the river which made her stab a picture of his face above their bed with a knife. I just blew that whole psychotic episodes she had off and tried to not think about it, so I ordered 3 tacos and they were pretty good besides the 3rd one being alittle pink at the center of the beef mound. It doesn't end there, when I asked for some Lime to squeeze on my tacos she gave me 5 limes from the bar (sliced for garnish, not to use for food, so they were useless to me) piled onto a to go cup lid that almost snapped in half when she handed them to me while she kept walking, didn't even stop to place them down on the table, just kept walking and I had to catch the lid of limes since it was impossible to grab the lid while she zoomed past the table. On top of that, I am now completely ready for a colonoscopy from the hours I have spent on the toilet since my visit. It has cost me $20 for a meal and $20 for gas-x and pepto bismol anti-diarrheal. Awful experience I will NEVER return. That waitress ruined my experience and is an awful representation of The Jalapeños restaurant. read more

The salsa that came with the pre meal chips was quite good. I had the enchiladas Caseras which is a cheese, chicken, shredded beef and bean enchilada. It was ok... It's very difficult to be different and stand out as a Mexican Joint. It all tastes the same. Service was average. Nothing about our tall guy was memorable in any way. Waited for some refills a couple times, everyone else (5 others in our group) got their food and I had to wait another 6 min to get my fajita. Place is cramped and LOUD. Conversations by the drunk bar are NOT family/little kid approved. I wanted to move tables but couldn't. Overall, average in every way. Doubt we will be back when we visit savannah again. read more
