The BEST carnitas in the bay area. My family has been coming to Jalisco's since I was a kid. It brings back great memories and they have the carnitas recipe down. Since the moment the I laid eyes on the carnitas, I knew I was in Mexican Heaven!!! I got a tortilla scooped some meat, a little offal, and cuerito, topped it with pico de gallo that was very fresh, poured some salsa that had the most incredible lime spice taste ever, and of course my jalapenos on the side. I swear that was the best bite I had took in awhile. I can't stress enough about how damn good these carnitas are!!!! Hands down this place kills ALL the competition when it comes to carnitas. I love this place. It will be one of my first stops when I visit home, and I will eat a pound of chicharrones BY MYSELF. At first I thought they had little fluffy bathmats hanging out on top of the stove, but then I realized that no, it was just yards and yards of fried pork skin. It was so heavenly I could have died. This place doesn't stay open very late.. maybe until 5 or 6pm? However, if you're lucky enough to come here when they're open, TRY THEIR CARNITAS. It gets pretty stuffy and warm in there in the summertime, so make sure you order a cold horchata to stay cool! YUM! read more

Was in the mood for real Mexican food and this place hit the spot! Was feeling discouraged that much of Oakland has super fancy Mexican and all I wanted was a messy delicious Mission style burrito - so I made my way here! They have a front butchery type line which was out the door on a Sunday afternoon and the giant bags of chopped pork they were sending customers home with looked amazing! There's a small restaurant portion in the back where we ate. Our waitress was super friendly and speedy. I got a steak burrito which really hit the spot - perfect balance of ingredients but the steak however was a bit tough/chewy. After watching other guests, pretty sure carnitas is their specialty here and so will have to get that next time! read more

This restaurant is small and plain with a few spots for street parking. It was completely empty when I walked in on Saturday evening. I didn't see any menus, so I asked the guy at the register what was good. In unison, he and the two cooks in the back all shouted "CARNITAS!" One carnitas burrito later I was stuffed and happy. The meat is tender and slow cooked with lots of flavor. It's fairly inexpensive too - 3.55 for a regular burrito, 6 for a huge super burrito. They have vegitarian options too that are cheap. It's tasty, great for carry out, and a nice neighborhood joint. Not a lot of atmosphere, though.
