After feeling like a well-known retailer in Downtown Crossing was being pushy, I walked into the Jeweler's Building on a whim. I didn't know it at the time but it was the best decision I could have possibly made. When I arrived at Boston Platinum I was immediately at ease with Anthony because of how personable he is. He was genuinely interested in crafting the ring I wanted as opposed to trying to sell me on something from a large stock. We designed the ring together; Anthony listened to the ideas I had to give this special ring a personal touch and brought them to life. He does all of the work himself which is all the more impressive, and it helps save on costs. Since that first time where I got the engagement ring, I've returned to Boston Platinum four more times for big life events that require a one of a kind gift--most recently, my 10 year anniversary. Each time I go to Boston Platinum, Anthony greets me like a friend and then takes the time to sit down and discuss what I am looking for. We go over every detail and I am always impressed by his sketches and designs. Then as I get to hold his crafts for the first time, I can't help but smile. After I decided to move forward with the ring, I didn't realize the amount of communication I would have with Jeff up until the engagement and afterwards. Jeff followed up with me the night after the engagement asking me how everything went with our night and if she was 100% in love with it. The ring was exactly what she wanted but I messed up a little on the wedding band size. My parents had just gifted it to me so I was a complete mess when I broke it. Im in college so I'm definitely on a budget. While other jewelers quoted me a fix for $600-$700, Bruce told me he could do it for cheap around $300-$400. I was skeptical since he quoted me a price far lower than others, but he was so personable and genuine that I took a leap of faith. I explained to him that I was in a bit of a rush, and he told me he would get it done in time. A few days passed, and he called me explaining that the repair needed more gold than he expected and it took way more time, and therefore it might be slightly more expensive that he originally quoted. He followed up by saying that he wanted to keep it as cheap as possible for me. It didn't matter if he made a ton of money off of it, he just wanted me to be happy with the result so that I would return as a customer. His transparency was refreshing and much appreciated. I think he could tell I was devastated when I first brought it in, which really shows that he cares about his customers. The result was everything I imagined and more. He ended up only charging me $50 more than expected and I couldn't be happier. I would recommend Bruce to anyone who needs a repair or even needs to purchase something. He has some really gorgeous pieces in his shop as well. I really can't believe my luck. When I politely asked to verify the ring sizing documentation from our consultation - a reasonable request given the additional cost for resizing on top of what we already paid for the ring itself - her response was shockingly emotional and defensive. She took my question as a personal attack on her integrity, accused me of showing "distrust" and "disrespect" and called my inquiry "an insult." She then abruptly ended our professional relationship. I had crafted my email multiple times to ensure it was polite and made clear we wanted to continue working with her regardless of the outcome. I even consulted with the mutual friends who referred us to make sure it was appropriate to ask. Everyone was surprised by how severely she overreacted to what was simply a request to review consultation notes for our records. While she did provide documentation showing the sizing was correct and offered a $200 refund (which I declined given the circumstances), her emotional response to a basic business question was completely disproportionate and unprofessional. She wrote that she could "separate the human from his/her words" and had "compassion for the human and understanding for the words - but her actual response showed neither compassion nor understanding. If you work with Cynthia, be aware that she may take any business question as a personal insult and react in an emotional manner. The work quality is good, but the inability to handle professional inquiries without becoming defensive is a significant concern.
