Had take out yesterday with my wife for the first time in years from Jamesons Southern Cooking. The owner, Mr. Jameson greeted us as we entered and was extremely pleasant to us. He even gave us each a bottle of water while we waited for our order. The counter staff were wonderful and willing to answer our questions. We shared the la carte platter consisting of a half rack each of baby back and St. Louis ribs with sides of mashed potato with gravy and mac and cheese. We had enough food for 4 meals so we equally enjoyed the leftovers the next night. I was very impressed with this small business and will return. read more

Been to Jameson's twice since covid. Delicious every time. It's about a 35-40 min drive from my house but it is worth the drive! When I got home, the food was still hot because of the way they packaged it! Ribs were in foil so sauce didn't get everywhere and it kept the heat. Cornbread was wrapped up so it was nice and warm with the rest. Not to mention, they're so nice and grateful for customers! The owner was there packaging while a lady was taking our payment and he thanked us for our business. Times are hard right now so give these small businesses your money!!! They definitely deserve it. I can't believe this place has been here 18 years and I've never gotten food from them. Everything my family got was excellent but the ribs were the best I've ever had as a takeout meal and pretty close to the best I've ever had. The owner Mr. Jameson could not have been nicer and staff was terrific. I can guarantee you this I will not be passing by again and it goes right to the top of my list of takeout food. read more

This restaurant is incredible!! We have been twice and if we lived closer, we would be regulars. The food and desserts are homemade and soul satisfying. My favorites are the fried fish whitening, the fried chicken, and porkchops. The sweet potato and Mac n cheese sides are out of this world. The desserts are delicious, especially the peach cobbler. The customer service was awesome!! I ordered the oxtails combo. I must have had the smallest five pieces of meat. Also I have never had oxtails with white rice and the gravy was soupy. Not what I expected at all. A lesson learned when taking out for the first time at an establishment to check the food before leaving and ask how meals are prepared. I wanted to like this place, I really did. I was there on a recent Sunday at almost 5 pm, more than three hours before closing. The restaurant was quite busy with take out, with about 8 tables all unoccupied. When I arrived I was told that they were out of white meat chicken, mac and cheese, collard greens and most desserts. Many of the other customers were very disappointed that so many of the limited menu items were sold out. I placed a take out order for the leg and thigh fried chicken and an order of spare ribs. For side dishes I ordered the sweet potatoes and green beans. The ribs come with no side dishes. I also got the last order of banana pudding. After waiting about 15 min they told me they were out of spare ribs too, and asked me if I wanted baby back ribs instead, which I agreed to. The workers including the owner Bob clearly acted as if they were doing me and every other customer a favor by serving them whatever leftovers they had remaining and were very unapologetic about their poor planning and running out of so many menu items with 3 hours left to go in their business day. They indicated that they were wiped out of much of the food after church, being a Sunday. Well I didn't point it out to them, but Sunday does come once per week so this should not have been too much of a surprise. The chicken was supposed to come with corn bread, but when I got home I found out they gave me two slices of whole wheat bread. They were probably out of corn bread too. The chicken was very crispy, and not either greasy or dry. The ribs drowned in a spicy BBQ sauce that was not bad, but would not be too mainstream. The quality of the ribs was ok at best, and they fell off the bones literally with the bones literally sitting on the top of the meat. The sweet potato were much more sweet then potato an the beans were mushy. The portions were more than adequate, but in the days of excess portion sizes in America, it was not overwhelming. Two dinners fed two hungry adults just fine. The food was packaged particularly well. We shared the banana pudding later in the evening for dessert and while it was decent, it was loaded with Nilla wafers with minimal pudding. We were at the jersey shore premium outlets and wanted to grab dinner before heading home. This restaurant popped up on my "nearby" list and we decided to check it out. As we walked in, an older gentleman greeted us and said "thank you"! We later found out he is "Jameson". A young lady greeted us inside and immediately took our order. I ordered oxtails with mash and collards. My husband ordered 1/2 rack of ribs, mac n cheese and sweet potatoes. I really liked my oxtails. They were cooked just right and had nice fatty bits hat make me dance in my seat. The mash was creamy and the collards were jus right. My husband enjoyed his meal too! The service is quick, the food is good, and and the people are friendly. That makes it a good place for me! read more

I really wanted to like this place but left hungry and disappointed. I ordered the oxtail special with mac and cheese and cabbage sides. I received 3 tiny pieces of oxtail that had almost no meat on them, however the flavor was good. The mac and cheese was dry and the cabbage had almost no flavor. The highlight was the corn bread which was warm, moist, and full of flavor. Maybe just an off night based on other reviews? Not sure I will be back to give it another try. read more

Jamesons has the best southern cooking in Monmouth County. My favorites are the chicken wings, pork chop and meatloaf dinners. Every dinner comes with two delicious sides and some cornbread. You can't go wrong with any side choice. I usually choose collard greens and mashed potatoes or yams and mac and cheese. Everything is made to order so it's fresh and hot. Be prepared to wait a short while for your food. If you're short on time, order ahead. read more

After missing them the last couple of times I came down to the beach due to them being on vacation I was super excited to know they were open today when I stopped by for dinner today after a beautiful day at the beach with my wife. This is my 3rd time eating here 1st time dining in and they have been on point every time! The fried chicken is deeeeeeeelicious so was the macaroni and cheese. On the way home my wife continuously talked about the whiting platter of which I tried a piece of her fish and it was fried to perfection! She enjoyed her sides which were the collard greens and potato salad. The crab cakes were tasty as well! The owners were very pleasant and the environment definitely gives you that at home feeling! I have driven by 100 times, and always said "I need to try that place" Today, I finally did!! It's a great little place with in house seating and waitress service (Ana is amazing!!) I, however, got take out this trip. I waited a short time, which should be expected when ordering food that is made fresh when ordered. No complaints on the wait time at all!! The Service was super friendly, and so helpful!! Ana explained what is a dinner, what's ala Carte and did it with a smile! The food? Simply amazing!! We got Babyback Rib Dinner and Catfish dinner. The potato salad was delicious, mac n cheese on point, catfish crispy and not at all greasy for having been fried, collards had a great smoky flavor and the cornbread is to die for! All possible fake or untruthful reviews not even sure owner is from down south or has any southern roots first and last time. For starters the mac n cheese was dry lacked salt and didn't have that baked taste especially at edges..BBQ on ribs tasted as if it was watered down and cornbread wasn't any better than jiffy read more

I so wanted this place to be fantastic but it was really sub par. The whiting and the corn bread were delicious. Everything else fell flat. The roasted chicken had great seasonings but it was so dry I almost choked on it. The mac and cheese was very oily and didn't have a lot of flavor and it was pretty obvious that the mashed potatoes came from a box. Even the cake was not that good. Piss poor customer service will make you lose customers every time. My family and I went to Jameson's last night at 8:40pm and the older lady behind the counter loudly says "I hope you called your order in because we're closed." I politely pointed out "The sign behind you says you close at 9 and according to google maps you also close at 9." The lady mumbled something and I said to my husband "Let's go to Local Smoke down the road." Dear black business owners stop having attitudes towards your customers and stop being lazy!!! Local smoke bbq down the road would have never treated us that way because we've frequented their restaurant multiple times and even showing up 5 minutes before they close and they would never turn you away. But we show up 20 minutes before closing and you tell us you're closed?! Keep it up with the lazy attitude and you will still get negative reviews. Do better y'all! read more
