It saddens me to have to write this review, as I really love Jams food. However, service is another thing. I work in an industry, where we provide lunch for customers on occasion. I ordered take out from Jams. First was told that they were so busy that I could not pick up until 11:45. I called at 10:30, before they were even officially open. I told them that was fine. However, they failed to give me an itemized reciept, which I need to get reimbursed for my expenses. I called them and Mark told me that he could write me out one however, I would have to stop in. I love love love the Coconut Fried Chicken Salad. I had it last night and I had to really search for any avocado, but all in all good. The problem is the price. When I started enjoying this salad years ago, it was $7.95. Now it is over twice that. Come on Jams, trying to pay for your remolding by raising prices doesn't go in Omaha. I ordered a couple salads for take-out and they were tasty. HOWEVER...when I got my credit card statement I noticed they had charged me for more than the amount on my receipt. I called and they said they would look into it and never called me back. Subsequently, I called them again and spoke with the owner who was extremely disrespectful/unprofessional and began to berate me over the phone saying "I sound young" and asked how old I was.... Rude service! My son and his friends reserved the party room for 26 people for homecoming last weekend. Upon his arrival with his date, he was told there was no room at the table where 24 people were seated. Knowing the reservation was for 26 (and the waiter even acknowledged the accurate number), he had to ask repeatedly to be seated with his group. It wasn't until he began to pull the chairs over himself that the waitstaff helped him. Then, as they were sitting down - finally - the waiter asked if they were ready to order. My son asked for a minute to look at the menu! The waiter turned to the guest next to him, took his order and said under his breath, "at least someone is ready!" The waitstaff was very disrespectful and rude. This group of 26 high school seniors deserves better. Shame on Jams for treating young people this way. read more

Great! I have been here several times and each time I am tantalized by the flavors! They are consistently delicious! And the service has been fabulous each time with timely, polite service. I have had the tacos, the salmon specials, and I have tried the meatloaf, each plate was impressive. The tacos were my favorite, lovely perfectly crispy mahi mahi, complemented by fresh cabbage and cilantro! And this side of black beans were inspirational, with a titillating chipotle spice! The bartender staff was very attentive and the friendliest staff ever! The vibe is outstanding and the venue has the "place to be" feeling as there are always more people coming in late into the evening. JAMS is and will always be an Omaha favorite. Why have 10 ingredients when seven will do? Or five for that matter? It confuses the food and the eater. Management is a little unscrupulous according to some staff and some neighbors. Can't get myself to give many stars for this eatery, though many Love the crab cake salad. This is my wife's and my go-to restaurant in Omaha. Our meals have always been great, the menu has something at every price level, and the drinks are good. The totally yuppy ambiance is our favorite, too. The steaks I've had there are second only to Drover. For the price, I haven't had a better piece of tenderloin. read more

HOWEVER, there are many disappointing changes - CANS of soda for an exorbitant price just so they don't have to do free refills ???? No appetizer $10 pizette - now it is a pizza for $20! Unfortunately, had an experience where I happened to be seated next to an "old school "Jam's line cook. I would hesitate to call him a sous chef, as there was absolutely no pride or loyalty to Jam's. He stated that he had been employed there for years, but his sullen attitude regarding the business, his barely passable personal hygiene (only because his filthy, oily hair was ponytailed) and derisive comments about the business were inappropriate at best served to drive any guest within earshot away from Jam's. He was so confident, he stated they "would never dare let him go." As a hospitality professional of 30 years, I would sum that behavior up as a cancer. It will spread to other staff My family ate there 1-2x/week, but now we do not patronize the organization. Lunch/dinner dollars are finite, and to have a team member denigrating the organization, is an indication housecleaning is still necessary. New menu, great, decor, great, ownership, ditto. But who helped drive the business down? Front - line employees entrenched with ego and disrespect of the organization. We'll be back when you clean house of of those burnt-out, resentful line cooks. Went in there at 5:30 on St. Patrick's day, the place was not busy and we were sat immediately. Our table however was wobbly so they moved us to another table. We waited about 10-15 minutes with no service. The hostess showed attitude throughout the greeting and seating process. Mildly disappointed. Manners matter in the restaurant business. read more

This place is terribly over rated and over priced. Food is average(maybe) but prices are outrageous. Weird menu. Not going back.

Expensive? Very. one salad, meat loaf, wine & beer cost $61. Service? Requested a Bud Light twice before it came..and that at 4 p.m. on a Saturday afternoon when the place was empty. Hard to find waitperson when we wanted to check out. Salad had great ingredients in it but was slimy with way too much dressing; just plain white stuff without any flavor. Mayonnaise would have had some flavor at least. Guests are seated right next to each other, hard to have any private business conversations in that place. read more

Very disappointed experience @ Jam's yesterday for lunch. My friend & I met for a leisurely nice lunch. It was my time to make the choice of where we ate so I suggested Jam's. We arrived @ 11:30 and were quickly seated, prompt service, order taken and food served in a very timely manner. We were talking and eating our delicious salads and were asked four separate times if we were finished all the while we were still eating. My friend finally looked at me and we both came to the conclusion that our table was needed and they wanted us to leave. I was soooo embarrassed because I suggested Jam's and it was obvious that the manager was putting so much pressure on the waitress even though she was very polite and did not tell us that. I asked her who is the manager and she pointed to "Mark".....he was standing against the wall starring at us . We were never asked if we wanted coffee which we did, but she delivered our ticket. We left and then traveled to Starbucks to have coffee. This was only my second time going to Jam's.........I moved to Omaha 2 years ago. This is the first time I have been treated like this at a restaurant in Omaha. My neighbors also like it, but I will be glad to share this experience. My husband was not happy when I told him. Extremely disappointed with the treatment.........not typical of the Mid West. Can't believe I had to travel to Starbucks to have a cup of coffee!!! read more

This used to be a great place to eat, it was in fact my mid-city go to. However, I don't think I will go again. The cost was extreme, I paid a lot for bland food and three beers. My friends and I split the lettuce wraps and there was no flavor. We in fact had to ask for salt just so we could have some flavor and then the waitress was rude after we asked for salt. The wait staff gave us little attention. Our salads which used to be my favorite meal at Jam's also was bland. The pecan crusted chicken was always marvelous in the past, but not good this time. In fact, the salads come with a croissant or bread and this was missing when our order came. We were told they would bring it and it never came, then at the end the waitress said "Well you probably don't want it now do you." Overall, it was a terrible experience. Lived in Omaha all my life, was a waitress and bartender in college, in my opinion Jams has the best chef in Omaha. The menu has tons and tons of choices, you can have anything from meatloaf with garlic mashed potatoes (my hubby's fave), a sandwich, crab cakes or a fresh fish selection. Lots of choices, all delicious. Wait staff is friendly and well prepared, they know the menu and have good recommendations. They stay there-you see the same staff there often for years. That says something about the management. The new decor is exactly like Pitch, so be prepared to sit next to strangers at the tall tables. This actually turns out to be not a big deal, you still feel like you are having a private dinner. Jams has always been loud, and the new decor makes it more so, but it's a vibrant fun loud, not overwhelming. This is a great place for drinks and apps, casual or fancy dinner. Went to Jams last night for an early supper - around 5:15 or so on a Tuesday night. I have been to Jams numerous times and adore their food, but I will say their staff always seems to be snooty - especially if you don't have one of their "beloved" reservations. I'm not sure why you need a reservation when there is no one there but whatever....I get it's a big deal to them but do get tired of the lecture if you don't have one. I took a friend from St. Louis who had never been there but travels to Omaha frequently - she was excited to find someplace new that was not a chain. We get it, get our reservation lecture and sit down. Our waiter was immediately annoyed because we only ordered soft drinks. When we got our drinks, they were diet instead of regular and when we pointed this out to him, he argued with us rather than just fixing it. My friend wanted to try several different items on the menu since she'd never been so we ordered 2 appetizers and 2 entrees, all of which we wanted at the same time so we could sample and share without filling up on any one thing. The waiter told us this was "not how they normally do things" but finally went ahead and agreed. Our food came out and was fantastic as usual. We sampled our way through all of it and then asked for the rest to be boxed, but while that was being done, we also ordered a dessert to share. From the look on the waiters face, it was obvious he felt we didn't need dessert but he did box our things and get our dessert. Now, here comes the extremely rude part....while we finished our dessert and conversation, our waiter stood right next to my chair the entire time, periodically looking at his watch. The restaurant was not busy, there was no one waiting to be seated so there was absolutely NO CALL for this behavior! I jokingly told my friend that maybe he thought were going to dine and dash but that's exactly what he made us feel like. Eventually we got tired of his behavior, paid our bill (and tipped well by the way) and left. I felt really bad recommending this place to a friend and I'm sure she won't ever be back. I LOVE their food and I'd be hard-pressed to find a reason to go back. It was hands-down the rudest waitstaff behavior I've ever experienced.
