We were there for my birthday this weekend, and took 4 people a total of 2 hours to finally eat. They weren't even busy in the restaurant but we felt forgotten much of the time. I understand they were most likely short staffed but I was just blown away by the horrible service we received when we did have someone check on us, and how long it took to receive our appetizers and then our food. We were there for my birthday and made that very clear but I guess they don't do anything for birthdays which is also disappointing. Probably won't be back at this location. read more

Decided to visit the JAMS off of Dodge/Uptown section of Omaha. After being seated quickly, the server took her time and disappeared for 10 minutes before reappearing to finally take our order. The hot turkey sandwich was on my radar, having this at the West Omaha location and enjoyed the dish there. After ordering, the food arrived within 15 minutes and service actually became better. The flavor was good, the meal was hot, well-made, and the server actually refilled the waters without asking. She actually boxed up our meals, and brought the check quickly. I used to love Jams but they got rid of their best salad and their hand cut fries are no longer hand cut. Not sure I'll return anytime soon.

I almost always love this place. Their food and drinks are absolutely amazing for the most part. I also applaud their more eco-friendly brown paper to-go boxes over the styrofoam and plastic ones I usually see. Unfortunately, the only reason that I didn't give them a 5 start review was because of an unfortunate incident last night with my allergic reaction. The last time my fiance and I went to Jams, we had the bruschetta and it was completely fine and delicious as usual. Unfortunately, they have changed the bruschetta to have a basil pesto on it which would have been fine with us if they would have labelled it as containing nuts. Their menu is pretty good about saying when nuts are added to the dish for the most part, but that bruschetta was a blind spot. I've been to a lot of places with pestos that are nut-free, and in their defense, my fiancee and I should have checked with them before ordering it. However, labeling dishes as containing nuts could have avoided us the pain and heartache of ordering it and me becoming horribly sick. This extra care would be greatly appreciated by me and everyone else that struggles with this painful and even life-threatening issue. read more

OVERALL EXPERIENCE : ATMOSPHERE : The atmosphere was intimate and modern. It had a bluesy feel to it, maybe a place to take your girlfriends out or a date. I wouldn't suggest bringing the whole family and the kids, a little too expensive and "mature." I loved the way that it was decorated, clean and simple, chic, and a great place to take your arm candy. FOOD : I got the veggie, quinoa, couscous salad. It had edamame, broccoli, green beans, baby spinach, grilled zucchini, feta cheese, tomatoes, boiled eggs, and the assortment of rice with balsamic vinegar dressing. I absolutely loved it, tasted fresh and had flavor with every bite. It was massive, and maybe you could even share it between two people, but definitely glad I got it. They have an array of options, anywhere from fish, to burgers, to salads, to coconut chicken, to soups, to gelato. SERVICE : I had phenomenal service, probably the best waiter I've ever had. His name was Eric, he was faithful to come to the table to check on me, always had a smile on his face, made conversation, and was just so kind and such a great waiter. Blown away by his kindness!! DOWNFALLS : The only downfall was the hostess that wasn't consistently present at the front, having to wait a couple minutes awkwardly alone to be seated. I realize everyone has Bruchetta but theirs really is a step up and I can't even tell you why but I could eat it daily! We also had the crispy ravioli which was also very good. We both had a couple glasses of wine and took home a slice of cake. The check was about $100 before tax and we were both completely satisfied! Oh, our server was fantastic as well. Jams is great. This was my first time coming and I was happy to find the menu was extensive, and they had an impressive drink and cocktail menu. The prices ranged from around $13 to $30 for entrees, so there's something in most people's budget. I ordered the blackened mahi mahi fish tacos, which included black beans and rice. They were really good and came out quickly. Our waiter was perfect...there when we needed him but never obtrusive or hovering. I've done here 2x for brunch now and if you're looking to drink Red Sangria is the best drink. It's super sweet and not too strong so you won't get tipsy fast. Wow - incredible place. Was in Omaha for 3 nights at the Staybridge Suites close by. The hotel front desk recommended this place. WOW. So fabulous. We all ordered something different and tried several menu items. All fantastic. Service was great. Cocktails were magnificent. I ordered an amaretto sour and it was fabulous. A tiny bit sweet but was fabulous. The amareno cherry garnish was beautiful and delicious. I would have gone there every night we were in Omaha but couldn't due to other committments. Funny story, when I was a kid I thought this was some kind of doll store. Because, riding by, the 80's style purple sign clearly reads "Jams: An American Girl". Since I wasn't into dolls, I never asked to get a closer look and probably continued in that assumption until I was old enough to pay for my own food and choose restaurants for myself. Though I don't think I ever set foot into Jams until after college.... The point of that little anecdote is that Jams has been around for a while (a point that can also be driven home by visiting their website), but they're obviously doing something very, very, right. Heck, they're even able to win over people who think they shouldn't like the place (Anastasia B.) First off, I will warn people that it gets VERY busy very quickly at lunchtime (but if you arrive no later than 11:30 you should be relatively safe). It's not a regular dinner spot for us - again, because of the busy-ness - but you CAN make reservations for both lunch and dinner. This is actually recommended. My staple order is usually the fish tacos or whatever the lunch special is, because Jams knows how to do a special. They also know how to heat up a Rotella's roll to the perfect temperature to tempt me to also order soup at lunchtime... soups which do not disappoint either. From the dishes I've tried here, you really can't go wrong. Just order something that appeals to you - easier said than done in my case. First up, there are the Fish Tacos. Negra Modelo battered mahi mahi with lightly griddled flour tortillas, avocado, manchego cheese, red cabbage and a pile of cilantro (just how I like it). Served with charred tomatillo salsa, cumin-carrot crema, red chili rice and chipotle black beans. It's a winner, and probably my favorite menu item. Then there's the Burger. How do you make what could arguably be called juiciest burger in town? You grind up brisket, chuck and short ribs to accompany the house blend ground beef. Then the diner is free to add extras like bacon, grilled or balsamic onions, mushrooms, and cheese (cheddar, swiss, jack, gorgonzola or American). Fresh vegetable toppers, and a soft bun finish it off. The fries are also pretty darn tasty, which doesn't hurt. Salads are always a good choice here as well if you want that 'healthy feel good ordering' thing, though since they're covered with delectable salad goodies (crab cakes, field greens, roasted walnuts, gorgonzola, bacon, red onions, tomato and avocado tossed in a creamy creole red pepper dressing... for example) I'm sure they're not really any healthier than a burger and fries per se. But if you're a restaurant-salad person, don't miss these leafy concoctions. The most famous is the Fried Coconut Chicken (coconut coated chicken, artichoke hearts, avocado, swiss, tomato, red onions, croutons, almonds & field greens with a creamy herb mustard dressing and raspberry sauce). Get some. Jams doesn't fail to disappoint for dinner either, and many of the lunchtime options are still available. The crowd is still there though. read more

I recently went to Jam's for a Community Event - Burger Brigade #8. We went last Thursday and it was packed. Luckily Will reserved us a table somehow. The service was top notch. We always had glass fulls of our beverage and the server was extremely knowledgeable of the menu and how things were cooked. The portobello mushroom app was just amazing. I will cross the bridge and come to Omaha just for that. The seafood egg rolls were just okay and the pot stickers or wantons were pretty good. The food came out pretty fast and it was hot and fresh. My burger was pretty big, (as you can see in my photos that I uploaded), and the ingredients were fresh. I have two gripes: One is that other than lettuce, tomato, and onion, everything else is $.95 extra, even cheese. I didn't want to spend $15 on a burger so I just had cheese added. And two, the burger meat wasn't seasoned at all, which is a must in creating a great burger. It was straight hamburger meat taste. My wife got the Roasted Turkey sandwich, (I believe?), and it was awesome. One of the best turkey sandwiches I've ever had. It was 'carving board' turkey as well, not the fake crap you buy at a grocery store. Overall, this place intrigues me. I will come back to try some of their other items. read more

Made reservations well in advance for Jams. Had a party of 5 and they put us at a table meant for 4. Restaurant was not packed, but hostesses were dumbfounded why we didn't want to squish in this little table. Finally they put a seat on the end for us, which at that point it was whatever since they refused to move us. There is a new menu, not sure how long this has been going on. My party was disappointed there is no "bread salad" anymore. Ordered the potstickers (nothing special) and the lettuce wraps to start (huge portion). Ended up with the Veggie, Couscous & Quinoa salad. My friend next to me ordered the same thing with no olives. Of course I had the lady that came around put fresh ground pepper all over mine, and my friend did not. And they gave us the wrong salads. Hers had olives all over. Ugh. Trade. Little things like that make you think twice about if I want to return. The shining light was our server Amber. Really nice, great suggestions and an overall great server. Reliable American food with strong service and conveniently situated in the center of the city right off the ever vital dodge street corridor and adjacent to Methodist/children's hospital. Came here a few months back and the food and atmosphere did not disappoint. It was a cold January night. We had a large group and called ahead a few hours and the back room was secured for us. This room had a long table and can easily accommodate 12-20people it also affords a bit more privacy/intimacy which was great for our group which was all extended family in town for a funeral. Our server did a great job keeping our drinks full and bringing our food promptly. She was very gracious and affable as well. Appetizers we enjoyed were salty, tasty onion rings and flavorful fried ravioli which were excellent .salads are always a hit here and I personally like the Rico sandwich as well as the steak salad. On this night I got the meatloaf and it hit the spot as it came with a nice side of mashed potatoes and carrots and constituted classic comfort food on an icy Omaha evening. Also the food is reasonably priced which is refreshing. Stop by the holiday which is next door for a drink before or after dinner. Good food and good location. To go food via uber eats tastes great too and can provide high quality jams meals in the comfort of your own home . I truly can't say enough about this place! I don't dote on places very often, however this place, and management, is one of the top places I've been to! I was the lone male waiting for my wife's "crew" of six to get done doing their Escape Room. I sat at the bar and waited for them, and never had to wait more than 1 minute for a drink!! This crew has their shit down..like clockwork. I'm 57 and I've seen bad bar service...this was the epitome of what a bar service, and staff should be like, and the place was packed! Jams has been my go to spot for quite some time now. Until recently! I went to pick up lunch with my two little ones to sit at the park to each. When I opened my sauce for my salmon burger, I noticed there was a bug floating in it. I gagged and called to speak with the manager. He was very apologetic, I returned the sandwich. He returned my money and gave me a $50 gift card. All while telling me, "this happens here ever so often because of the old building." Fast forward a few weeks later, I went to use my gift card at the 170th street location--ordered two dinners, the restaurant split one order of fries between my spouse and I. Literally about 10fries each. Fast forward, third try. Ordered lunch to Pick up from the downtown location--placed order over the phone. Arrived 20mins later--went inside to retrieve, bartender can't find my order. Then she flippantly said, "oh! I didn't put it in". She never put my order in. I was livid. I turned and walked out. I used to love this place and always made it a stop when I came into town, but today I can't even comment on the food... I never got to place an order for dinner. The bar staff was overwhelmed, so I am trying to be understanding, however, 45 minutes after my beverage and appetizer arrived nobody had returned to ask if I wanted to order anything more. I had to flag a bartender down to close out... she commented to another employee that another table just threw down cash and bailed... if only had been carrying cash... I had the Carnitas Enchiladas and they were amazing! I mean sooooo good! I loved the roasted pepper with it and the lime wedge was the perfect blend in this dish. Cream but not not overly saturated in sauce with a slight crispness to the tortilla. I would order this again and again. My friend had their crispy coconut chicken salad which was also really good! We had drinks at the bar, and ordered takeout for the family on a Tuesday night. The place was fairly busy. Drinks--an old fashioned and their spring boulevardier-- were great. The service was warm and welcoming. The food, ok. We got lobster tacos, mayo tacos, short rib tacos, a power salad with coconut shrimp added, meatloaf, and fried cod. The lobster tacos were just not good. The mahi tacos were ok. Sauces that came with it were ok but not particularly interesting. Coconut shrimp were very tough, super overcooked like they'd been microwaved, and tasted like nothing. The power salad itself didn't shine either. The meatloaf was good. The cod was perfectly juicy but the breading was not worth eating. When we took our food to the hotel we were missing an entree. Had to go back to get it. The manager was incredibly sweet about it and offered us $10 off coupons for another visit. But we don't live in town so we passed on the offer. All in all, good service, good drinks, just wouldn't eat here beyond sandwiches. read more

We've been getting coconut chicken salads for over 15 years at this location. They were the best salad in town, now it's more in line with anywhere else. You get less and less and pay more for the pleasure. The carrot cake was so bland it could have come from a vending machine. I urge management to try the carrot cake at say Charlestons or J Gilbert and then try yours. But the thing that irritated me most was finding out that gift cards with partial balances depreciate automatically. Really makes me wish I would have paid in paper currency that spontaneously combusts sometime before closing. Jams used to be the place I brought out of town guests to and I still might. Great decor and fabulous service. Some of the best service I have found in Omaha. Jams is a great little gem and is usually always packed. The food is pretty impressive and has some great inspiration behind it. The Pablano mac n cheese has some great flavors and mouth feels to it with the cheesy and crispy bread crumbs. Noodles tend to be a bit overdone. The rib taco's are pretty fabulous and they did a great job on those! Cavatappi pasta is very good but super Spicy!! Overall you can find something for everyone. Be prepared to spend a bit this place is Pricey!!! I almost gave this a 3 star because the food doesnt really meet the price they have. But the service and great effort's of staff pushed it to the 4th!! read more

Had to check twice after an hour for the table where the condescending host was surprised we were still waiting and did not choose to eat at the bar. The bar seating was JAMmed. Maybe where they got the name since the host was more interested in who you were to be seated than to actually serve the guest. Either way. I wont be in a hurry to go back. I don't even know where to begin. I was meeting a party of 12ish but arrived by myself the (I assume) manager was at the podium with back towards the door (maybe turn it around?) and two employees were facing him. As soon as I walked in, both ladies looked at me but did nothing. Initially I thought they were patrons but the restaurant was not even half full (it was 11am on a Sunday), and they were clearly employees. At no point did the ladies facing me acknowledge me or tell the gentleman there was a guest waiting. I stood there for over a minute before her finally turned around and told me where to go. I wasn't even fully settled in my seat and the server asked what I'd like to drink, totally fine, just asked for another few minutes, and she did not come back until it was time to order. Three people from the group got the same meal and another three of us got the same of a different item. The food came out until eventually I was the only one without food. There was an order that was partially wrong that was brought back but left sitting out on another podium. Our group asked me what I ordered about 2 minutes before anyone who brought our food did. When someone came back to ask what I ordered, they brought the meal sitting on the podium over that was nice completely cooled before stating they would bring the correct variations. No one apologized or acknowledged the mistake. The food itself was very mediocre. The potatoes needed to be cooked longer and seasoned better, the sausage was so heavy on green onion it overpowered the actual sausage taste. The folks that ordered burgers could barely eat them they were so poorly built and turned into a sloppy mess on the plate. $80 for 3 items pre tip is ridiculous for the service and quality of this establishment. Multiple people in our party also expressed concern for both the men's and women's restrooms. There was a male employee doing his business with the stall door open (people were able to see the "Jams" logo on the shirt. And the women's restroom toilets did not flush and both ladies in the group ended up waiting until we left to go to another place on the strip.
