Amazing Hoisin Chicken Tenders with peanut sauce! All the dishes that we ordered were good and had a nice presentation. The service was good and our food came out very fast. The atmosphere was a mix between a sports bar and more upscale restaurant. They had some very enjoyable live music the evening that we were there. read more

I've been back a few times since Jams got renovated and changed hands earlier this year. Service is still fine and menu looks just about the same. I recommend any (and all!) of the salads with your choice of protein, and also the bucatini and homemade meatballs was awesome!! The decor now is a little more fancy and swanky, but you can still come in jeans and a tee. The usual "regulars" crowd keeps this place slammed all the time. But it's still fun. read more

I don't know that Jams needs another review but I just need to praise the shrimp and grits. The grits were done perfect, and that is coming from 20 years of grits experience in the Lowcountry. They are creamy and cooked long enough for them to get that silky texture. The shrimp also seemed fresh for being landlocked. The fried ravioli were more of a meal than an appetizer. The arugula makes that dish. Prices seem a bit inflated but for consistent quality, they are doing what they have to do. read more

I couldn't fly back home without stopping at Jams after work with a friend. I have heard of this place for a while but every time I am in Omaha I still neglected to try it. Decor is comfortable and service was fine, we came for a late lunch so it was an awkward time. We couldn't decide on an appetizer between the crab cakes and the onion rings, we kept going back and forth we decided on the crab cakes and a few minutes later a huge plate of onion rings were delivered to our table. NOT A HUGE deal we were going back and forth and might have been confusing. I mean come on just enjoy them, its onion rings not lutefisk. The appearance of the onion rings certainly did "shine like the top of the Chrysler building" a tad greasy but pretty good. Other appetizer lettuce wraps, I have never encountered lettuce wraps with soft noodles in them, the dish itself was a little watery (side note came right from work suit jacket in the car and I am wearing a white button up) the last thing I want to do is slop anything on me, stain stick it at the hotel and hope my dry cleaner can get it out when I get home. I ate it with a knife and fork and it really was unorthodox but good. Steak frites NOT a fan, flank steak marinated served with herb mustard. I ordered it medium rare came out rare (totally fine) I don't mind rare steak. The meat didn't seem Prime and to be honest probably the marinade gave it a gamey taste that I did not care for. Fries were delicious so I just gave into a carb filled lunch. Definitely want to come back and try another entree. read more

Well wow! I am so impressed with this place I just might eat there tomorrow. Food was great, service was great. its been a long time since I was able to give a restaurant a five! The Baked Scampi (only 6 medium size shrimp with LOTS of cheese), Crab Cake Burger (unreal delicious and crispy crust was light and perfect) & Brownie (walnuts & ice cream and sauce that resembled the flavor of magic shell but it didn't harden) were lovely. I even got heavy cream with my coffee when I asked for it. Which NEVER happens its like they think the person (me) ordering heavy cream for my coffee can't tell the difference between it and half and half. Location was clean and tidy, music was the right volume. Conveniently located near Children's Hospital Omaha go there if you have time for lunch! read more

Jams is one of those "go-to" places that never disappoints. Every time I look at their menu I feel like I am in a different city - maybe Scottsdale or Santa Fe (which is a good thing). Yes, they are ALWAYS busy and it never lets up, but that is the sign of a good restaurant. I have a very hard time not ordering the crab cake salad. It is absolutely delicious. But occasionally when I do stray from it I have never been let down. Service is always great and the staff is very friendly. read more

Went here today with two friends for a late lunch and we were seated without a wait. We sat at a table, which I was fortunate for because I'm not a fan of the shared tables (like Pitch). I got the Dave's Salad (best salad I've had in Omaha). So fresh. Loved the dressings and the tomatoes. My friend got the Crab Cake Salad (bomb as well) and our buddy got the Crab Cake Burger! We loved our food. Service was great. If you can, request the waiter Ben. Great personality and I wish we would have had him! The interior is charming, yet clean. An All-American joint. Stopped in for dinner with my wife and her parents. Made reservations thru Yelp(very handy). The service was good and this place really does go for the comfort food. I do enjoy their onion rings quite a bit. I ordered the short rib tacos and they were kind enough to sub my mac and cheese side for veggies instead. Everything was good, one complaint is the tacos had waayyyy too much cream on them. Everyone else got a salad, all huge salads and enjoyed by all. They were accommodating to my wife's gluten free needs which is always appreciated. Overall we had a nice experience, just not a 5 star experience. read more

This review applies only to breakfast/brunch. Pros: Beautiful interior. Generous portions. Short wait. The manager did much of the waiting and was very nice. Cons: Very underwhelming food and poor service. Coffee cake was dry. Yogurt parfait was essentially honey soup. The sausage was just unfortunate tasting - like a hamburger patty with a hint of soil. The potatoes were cold. The omelette was just ok. It had a generous amount of steak in it, but it relied on large amounts of sour cream for flavor. The waitress was late and only came to the table twice. She never even asked how the food was. We may try again for dinner. We went on a Thursday night because they had lower priced appetizer list until 6pm and at 6, they were supposed to have live music but the guy that was supposed to come didn't show. She recommended the chicken fried steak and that's exactly what I went for. Huge huge portion- how does one eat it all in one sitting?? Frankly as a group we were a bit disappointed in our meals. The only thing that got the third star was our server who was very good. It was happy hour so we split a bottle of wine that brought the price to almost a reasonable level, wine is almost always overpriced. We had Bruschetta that was beyond the pale unless the intent was to serve a soggy piece of bread drowned in what I think was Worchester sauce. The Bucatini received mixed reviews but the Rico turkey was a disappointment. Potatoes were fine, turkey was dry and hard. Not sure we will be back, but in the past I did like the meatloaf so maybe. read more

Jams is a 3.5 star restaurant in my opinion. The food is all pretty reasonable and tasty- the burgers had great flavor and it seemed like they grilled them (as they tasted smoked and had some charcoal flavors). The coconut chicken salad was flavorful as well (though a bit too sweet) and the portion sizings were all big for the most part (they skimp on the nachos). The big sticking point with Jams is the value- it's a mid tier American restaurant that will run about $20 per dish, but these dishes can all be found in other restaurants in Omaha. I think that Pitch Pizza is a better restaurant (that serves American) at about the same price point. Kona is about on par in terms of quality and maybe just a little cheaper. J CoCo is also better in my opinion. Overall, I didn't have much to complain about other than the prices. The quality of the food was fine and above average + the service was excellent. That being said, there are plenty of other places I would rather go to than Jams for mid tier American. read more

This was recommended to us by our waitress at lunch. We read reviews that said this restaurant isn't kid friendly, but calked ahead and asked, since we have burgeoning little foodies (6 and 7 years old). I don't know that I would take kids younger than that there in the evenings, just because the place does have a very "grown up" only vibe to it. However..the staff were AMAZING with our kids. The hostess even came and visited with them several times. On to the incredible food...it was that. I had a chicken fried steak that was topped with a roasted garlic and blue cheese gravy, topped with crispy onions, and served with garlic and blue mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables. Holy cow amazing. The hubs had a spicy tuna steak special, served with a rice pilaf and veggies. Oh my. The only thing I liked better than my dish was his! Great ambiance and excellent service. Nice by the glass wine selection (the Malbec was lovely) with a minuscule beer on tap menu. We took the family here for an after KDG basketball game lunch. Between four adults a kindergartener and toddler we ordered 5 entrees and two apps; more than enough food for everyone leaving much to be wrapped up in to-go boxes and plenty to leave behind... sadly we had a 50/50 ratio on taste happiness. Crispy Ravioli: Four large raviolis with a light crispy breading over delicate pasta filled with ricotta in a pond of sauce with a slight kick - similar to an arrabbiata. Ginger Pork Potstickers: Adequate portion; not a raver but not terrible. Jam's burger and fries: The meat was cooked as requested (medium for 6 year old), tender and tasty. Large portion of so-so fries. Crab Cake Salad: This is the worst salad I have ever been served. The two crab cakes were more breading than crab - akin to a crab hush puppy. Every part of this salad was swimming in dressing. Our server recommended this dish to me after I leaned towards the crab cake starter. In hindsight it deserved to be sent back to the kitchen where someone would have realized the mistake (if it was one) instead of left for the trash. Side of sautéed Veggies: Perfectly cooked whole carrots, broccoli and green beans tossed in butter. I ended up sharing these with our toddler due to the tossed crab cake fiasco. Roasted Turkey on Grilled Sourdough: Tender turkey breast between thick Texas style sourdough bread. The tarragon mayo and balsamic onion marmalade make this whole big beautiful sandwich come together. Classic Beer Battered Fish and Chips: I will admit it is hard to find excellent fish and chips - this was not excellent, or good. A small serving of over fried fish on a heaping pile of so-so fries. As my parents stated, "edible but never again." We have had a handful of recommendations and finally gave it a shot. Unfortunately it was not a successful one. IF we return to either this or the downtown location it will be for sandwiches without the so-so fries. read more

I would suggest making a reservation for dinner on the weekend, it tends to get busy. Who doesn't like the original Jams location? Upscale decor, attentive staff, and repeatedly delicious food. You pretty much can't go wrong here. I was last in here with a large group and were well taken care of. I went with the Low Country Shrimp and Grits which is exactly what it sounds like, along with Andouille Sausage. If I could, I'd give Jams 3.5 stars. It's a good place to go for lunch during a work day or a "safe" place to meet with a client. The menu is standard American fare-- soup, sandwiches, burgers, fish tacos, etc.-- which they do reasonably well. But food is on the pricey side, and I don't think it's warranted. I've been here a couple times just because I was in the neighborhood, but I wouldn't make a special trip to eat here. I've had the Caesar salad with add-on shrimp, the crab cakes and also the Jams burger. Caesar salad was good, but for a $20-salad, 6 pieces of shrimp wasn't a great value. The crab cakes were very mealy. The burger was decent, but not for $14! The rest of the menu-- I haven't had their meatloaf, but can't see why anyone would want to pay $15 for it. read more

Nice atmosphere but the hostess acted weird about us not having a reservation. Was able to seat us right away so that didn't seem to be a problem. This was a Thursday evening. I saw people walk in and sit and eat at the bar so that was a option too. Had a 2 person band and they sounded great. Not too loud and good vocals. Played some Eagles so they had me at that. Would definitely recommend both the salad and the burgers, don't be too intimidated by the $$$$ as you'll have plenty of food leftover.
