A true five star dining experience!!! This spot is a real gem in downtown JC and captures the ambiance I typically think you have to go to Manhattan to find. The menu is super interesting, every dish is a slightly different take on what you'd expect (I've never had cacio e pepe with bone marrow before!!). I was very impressed by the service... our waiter was personable, he gave us lots of great advice on what to order and was so friendly. The service was not pretentious but felt extra special and upscale. The food was exceptional. Every dish we ordered was unique & incredibly packed with flavor. The cocktails were great too. I think this restaurant has the potential to be a great special occasion spot (special date, birthday, etc). They do a great job of making you feel special but also making you feel welcome! My fiancé and I decided to stop by here for a last minute dinner after work. The inside is beautifully decorated and the ambiance is perfect for an intimate dinner with a partner or celebration with friends. We started with cocktails, the amber and the lupe. They were both okay, the lupe had great ingredients but I feel like they didn't come through flavor wise. My fiancé ordered the Bianca and really enjoyed it! For our starter we decided to go with the snapper crudo. We did not enjoy it (felt that it was lacking flavor and salt) but did not want to return it. Our server asked how it was and we told her we did not love it and she was kind enough to offer an alternative which I genuinely appreciated. We opted for the octopus carpaccio which was very tasty! The olive oil was great quality and complimented the herbs very well. The fried capers added a nice salty component and the peppers added a slight kick. For our entrees we had the shrimp scampi and bone marrow tagliatelle. The shrimp scampi was probably the best pasta dish I've ever had. It was perfectly balanced with citrus and garlic. I enjoyed the shrimp heads that came with it. The bone marrow tagliatelle was definitely hearty and a nice comforting dish. We ended with the limoncello olive oil tres leches. I'm not a tres leches fan but my fiancé is and enjoyed the cake. Overall we look forward to coming back in the near future! read more

Wow! What a FIND!. Went last night before a show at White Eagle Hall.got there early for Saturday and the bar was already pretty full. Decided to sit there to be close to the action. Indeed! Highly skilled, super personable bartenders well able to either concoct from the menu or make to order based on preferences. I had the Japanese Garden Martini and my BF a variation on an Aviation that involved curaçao (he ended up with 2 of those they were so good), bartender made me a "Japanese Vesper." Didn't hurt that we struck up a conversation with 2 cocktail aficionados next to us. Food was also exceptional: steak tartare to share, then a tagliatelle dish for me and the peppers and chicken sausage sandwich for him -- along with a glass of a dry red. This is the restaurant downtown Jersey City has been missing! The food tastes just like home and every dish tasted so familiar in the best nostalgic way. We got the fried chicken skins, boiled egg apps and shared a Caeser salad, scampi (star of the show!) and the sausage and peppers sandwich (for two people.) The night before my reservation the restaurant called to tell me that they would strictly enforce their 90 minute service rule and that for my 630 reservation I would need to leave my table by 8. When I called to tell them I'm running late they reminded me of that rule once again. When I called again when I realized my Uber dropped me off at the wrong location, it was already almost 7 and given my locations, I would've arrived at the restaurant by 730 at best. Who would go to a reservation knowing they had to eat and leave the table within an hour of being seated? The restaurant once again reminded me that because of being late for my 630 res that I would need to leave the table by 8 because of the party after me. I knew I would have only an hour at my table, so I had to cancel; and when the restaurant wasn't willing to accommodate any adjustments or my request to cancel and waive the fee, I expressly told the employee that I could not make the res and that I was fine with the fee since they would not waive. I did not just "not show up". I was in consistent contact with the restaurant and despite the circumstances beyond my control prohibiting me from making my res in time, they were unwilling to accommodate. Needed to update the review to provide additional details; but thank you to the owner's message below regarding waiver of the fee. I appreciate that. read more

Was excited to try this new spot. The interior is beautiful, loved the design and open concept. We had the ricotta starter which was delicious. However, it came with very little pita, and then they charged for more pita which is annoying. The strawberry whisky cocktail also had a nice balance, not overly sweet. My main was a real miss however- don't order the mussel linguine. The pasta was bland and fishy and the mussels tasted off. The waitress to her credit swapped them with shrimp, but the dish left such a bad taste in my mouth. The shrimp scampi was good, but be warned it comes with whole shrimps. I moved to JC recently and I'm really enjoying the expertise and quality of all the local businesses (Suite Tees, Sophie's, Spa Blue, Dullboy, Razza, Matthews, Orale, Cellar 335, 143 Social, Ando, and the list goes on!). I was very excited to try Jane Doe but I have never experienced the disrespect for customers that I did today. I booked a reservation 6 days ago for 4 people at 730pm this evening. Due to unfortunate circumstances 2 people couldn't make it. I confirmed my reservation and told them that. They said they would not accommodate 2 people, only 4, and we were welcome to sit at the bar or come at 845 pm. Not even a time limit or fee was offered as a concession. They prioritized lost profit of 2 people over customer experience and retention. The inflexibility and arrogance of the staff is unmatched with anything I've seen. In a community that thrives on word of mouth, they should prob reevaluate their business model and customer approach. read more

Reservation was 630. We were on time and sat down right away. At 7:55, with plates of food and full drinks on the table, the server asks if we would like anything else. I say "yea maybe some dessert and another drink?" And she says "well we have other reservations for this table so I'll have to ask the host." She ended up saying it was ok to stay, but come on. The bill for 4 people was $400 before tip. We ordered a lot of food and wanted to enjoy it with our friends, but trying to kick us out at 90 minutes? How could we possibly eat any faster? Portions are big too. Honestly we weren't late or slow or anything like that. My friend said as we were leaving "it stinks because I don't even remember what we ate or if it was good, I only remember being rushed out." So yea, skip this place. Due to the subpar food and poor customer service of the manager, I would never eat here again.  We purchased 4 different dishes that were all subpar - octopus, meatballs, chicken yakitori and Farinata.  In all honesty, none of these are worth a second trip here.  In addition, my husband is a connoisseur of Manhattan drinks, but he prefers it with a large ice cube because of the slow melt.  We asked if they had a large ice cube and the server said they did.  The drink was served mistakenly delivered straight up.  When we asked for the large ice cube, they brought a glass with the ice cube.  What we didn't know until we received the bill was that they charged us $1.00 for an Ice cube.  Yes, you got that right,  $1.00 for an ice cube!!  When we asked the manager about it, he rudely said that was the cost.  Look, I know that a $1.00 is not the much, but it is the principle of the thing.  Are we now charging for ice without a mention to the customer; and when a complaint is made, there is no interest in trying to maintain the relationship with the customer.  I will never return to this place - sadly because it is actually nicely decorated.  However, if the food is just o.k. and management doesn't care about its customers, it is just not a reputable place.  Please go somewhere else as this place is quite disappointing! read more
