OK dinner experience. Two of us ordered: beef tofu soup mild $21.95 dolpan bibimbab $25.99 Definitely on the pricier side. Food comes out hot. Some of the sides are oddly oily (like the japchae and fish cake). Plenty of parking in the plaza.

They do not have Seafood Pancake! Let's start with that - because one of the recent reviews I saw listed that they had one with a photo and I was craving for a Seafood Pancake. (Unless there's a special way of ordering one?) It's all good, I also wanted a soft tofu - I got the Combination Mild. Service was friendly and quick. The banchan was tasty and plentiful - they do refills, I only asked a refill for the fish cake. I came in right at 5 PM when they opened, so it was easy to get a table. The place got pretty busy quickly - so I imagine this place to have a line during peak times. I will return to try the other dishes

We love a Korean restaurant which is generous with their banchan portions and refills. Came here on a weekday night, and it was surprisingly packed. Luckily there were 2 open tables, so we were able to be seated right away. The two Korean ladies working here are the kindest. 1. Dolpan bibimbab - comes out sizzling on the stone pot. Meat was tender, and the gochujang always ties the dish together. 2. Rice cake dumpling soup - generous portion, although there could have been more shredded beef included. The broth was hearty. I feel like this dish would be taken to the next level with some noodles like kalguksu inside. 3. Tofu soup - soon tofu always soft and delicious. The bite of rice dipped in soup is always my fav. I will say, inflation has definitely hit SGD a little, but nonetheless, the food is still as comforting as ever. A cozy winter meal.

Fish Roe Soon Tofu (알 순두부) that stays clean, rich, and silky If you're looking up SGD Tofu House San Jose, Korean soft tofu soup, or fish roe soon tofu near Saratoga Ave, this branch is worth your time - especially if you order the Fish Roe Soon Tofu (알 순두부). SGD is a chain, but each location has its own "calibration." This Saratoga Ave location's calibration is clear: the fish roe tofu soup is dialed in. The Fish Roe: likely cod roe - and it's handled correctly The roe here comes in small cut pieces/clusters (not blended into paste), which reads like cod roe in both texture and flavor profile - but the key point isn't the species name. The key point is quality control. A lot of fish roe dishes in the Bay Area fail in predictable ways: * that stale refrigerator / freezer odor (the "kept-too-long" smell) * dryness that turns roe crumbly and loose * texture that goes chalky instead of creamy This one avoids all of it. No fridge/freezer smell. Not dry, not "shreddy," not crumbly. Fine, silky texture with a rich, rounded umami. When you bite into the roe, it doesn't explode. It releases gently - a warm marine aroma and a clean savory finish that melts into the tofu instead of fighting it. That's what good handling tastes like. Spice level matters: order Mild Spicy Do yourself a favor: order mild spicy. At higher spice levels, capsaicin flattens nuance. At mild, you can actually taste: * the roe's natural salinity * the creamy tofu * the broth's depth without turning everything into pure heat White rice is the correct pairing here This location serves white rice (not purple rice like some other branches), and for fish roe soon tofu, it works. White rice keeps the palate clean and lets the roe's umami stay audible. You get a tighter roe-to-rice rhythm - simple, precise, comforting. Banchan note Banchan is generous. The fish cake here leans a bit oily/glossy - not a dealbreaker, just a branch-specific style. If your goal is fish roe soon tofu in San Jose, this Saratoga Ave SGD does it properly: clean aroma, controlled texture, and a broth that supports instead of overwhelms. You finish the bowl and the aftertaste stays warm and savory, not fishy. That's the difference. - Dr. C Certified Roe integrity intact. No freezer degradation detected. Silky tofu + clean marine umami = correct.

Level 4 spice Kimchi Pork Tofu Soup

On a cold cloudy day, I walked in to get me some spicy Kim Chi pork tofu soup. SGD has several locations in the South Bay but this one is a small shop on the edge of the Lion shopping center abutting highway. Bon chon is fresh and delicious. Be careful not to get too full and spoil your appetite! When the tofu soup is delivered, it is piping hot! This is ideal because there is a raw egg you have to put into the soup, and it needs to be hot enough to cook. As expected, the soup was hardy and really hit the spot, but I wish there was more pork. All in all, an excellent choice for tofu pot lovers.

SGD Tofu House is located in the same plaza as Lion Market. The parking can get challenging during peak hours. The restaurant offers a couple of tables for outside seating, but primarily the seating is inside. It can accommodate a couple of large parties of 8+ people. Korean House music. They offer beer, soju, and other drinks. The banchan is fresh and flavorful! It consisted of Kimchi, spicy mung bean sprouts, spicy pickled cucumbers, japchae, & seasoned fishcake. Soft Tofu with Fish Roe & vegetables (mild). A comforting and nourishing stew. The service was attentive and welcoming! They are open fairly late on Monday to Saturday until 11:30 pm. So, it's nice option for a late night meal. On Sunday, they are open until 9:00 pm. Support your local business.

SGD Tofu House has become one of our go-to spots for Korean comfort food in San Jose. It's tucked away in the far corner of the strip mall, so it took us a minute to find it the first time, but with tons of parking, getting in is never an issue. We've been here a few times now and the food is consistently amazing. Our usual order includes the Seafood Tofu Soup, Kimchi Beef Tofu Soup, and the Seafood Pancake. My wife loves their Short Ribs too. Everything is flavorful, comforting, and served piping hot. Their homemade kimchi deserves a special shoutout. Definitely phenomenal and honestly some of the best we've had. Service is friendly overall, though they can get a little irked if you show up late at night (fair enough they're winding down). Still, they take care of you. One small tip: if you need refills on banchan (side dishes), ask for everything at once instead of making multiple small requests. Great food, easy parking, and a solid spot for tofu soup lovers. We'll keep coming back!

SGD tofu house is a cute little restaurant you'd love to keep coming back too, food is so tasty and rich. Prices are good and reasonable, while service is also good and if anything better than some other asian restaurants I've been to in the past. So please do go try them.

SGD tofu house always delivers amazing and warm comfort food. Came here after a night out and this definitely hit the spot. Raw marinated crab was flavorful, spicy, and a bit sweet. Gloves were provided and goes so well with rice. Stone pot bibimbap had a bunch of fresh vegetables and a side of gochujang. The crispy bits at the bottom of the pan are my favorite. Any of their tofu soups are a must!

Came here late after 9pm for dinner and there were still several tables of customers here. The staff is mostly one no-fluff man, he gets us everything we asked for but is a man of few words. I do hear him explaining things when customers don't understand something on the menu. He works hard. The food is really good, I have no complaints. The banchan (side dishes) are fresh and good. We loved the kimchi, still very crunchy and not too fermented yet. I was recovering from a cold so I got the combination beef and seafood soup non-spicy (white) and it was really good. The stonepot beef bibimbap came on a stone plate instead of the bowl which was the first time I've seen it like that. I love the addition on burdock at this location.

Probably 3.5 stars in absolute. I went away satisfied, so bump them up instead of rounding down. Appetizers were not numerous, that's OK. But mostly lacked the spiciness I expect from Korean restaurants. This part is a meh. Appetizer short-rib was well seasoned and perfectly grilled. Modestly bedded with just onion, not fancy yet delicious. Bibimbap (dolpan, or stone pot) was excellent. As expected, lots of veggies on top of a rice bed that's perfectly charred (yes, that's a good thing) and some well flavored beed (optional). We mixed ourselves and did not add the hot sauce. This was the high-light and earned them the 4th star. Tofu soup came boiling. Seafoods ingredients were mediocre, sauce (medium spicy) was delicious and well flavored. The menu was small and lacked green onion pancake. They appear to specialize in Seafood Rice Cake (abbreviated as SRC) and we did not try. Overall, good experience. Price slightly on the high side compared to other Korean places.

I had lunch at SGD Tofu House today, and it was a pleasant experience. The place is cozy and not fancy, but clean and comfortable. I'm not sure if the couple working there were the owners or staff, but they were attentive enough, just not particularly warm. There are plenty of tofu restaurant around, but I think this SGD location on Saratoga Avenue stands out. It felt cleaner and more consistent than others I've tried. They offer 12 different tofu soup options, and the side dishes were fresh, flavorful, and generously refilled without us even having to ask. We tried the fish egg tofu soup and Kalbi both were satisfying and well prepared. Overall, the food was tasty, the space was somewhat old but clean and the service was decent. No issues at all. I'd definitely recommend it if you're in the mood for comforting Korean tofu soup.

Showed up on a Sunday night right around the time they opened. The places filled up rather quickly after. I have to say -- I absolutely love their banchan. They tasted super fresh and refreshing, and we gleefully got refills for them. My combination tofu soup had a bunch of beef and seafood inside, and it also comes with an egg. Not the best tofu soup I've ever had, but it was flavorful and filling. My friend really enjoyed his dolsan bibimbap. The food here was solid, and I would definitely come back to try their other offerings. The service was fine. It took a bit of time to flag them down towards the end, but that makes sense since there were big groups seated as well.

Even the rice cakes were good too. The main thing you should get is the kalbi jjim. If you're indecisive about the cheese, GET IT! My friend had the kalbi jjim without cheese once and regretted it. He said it's more tasty with the cheese on it. Other than the meat, I'm not sure if I would come here for soup. The clear soups I've gotten here are so-so. They lack in flavor and taste very bland-- wasn't worth the money. I highly recommend coming here with a party of three or more. The mild galibijjim was delicious with the cheese on top. The sauce was perfectly salty for pouring over rice, though it wasn't spicy at all (so will probably get the medium next time). The meat was tender and juicy and there was so much of it as well. The base dish came with rice cakes but I should have ordered extra as most of it was gone half way through the meal. The Mul Naengmyeon was cold and refreshing, especially after eating the galbijjim. The restaurant itself is pretty small so the waiters do try to rush you along in order to turn over the tables, but they also worked very hard to make sure your meal was satisfying. They also packed away the left overs in a heat sealed container so it wouldn't spill in the car and keeps for a while in your fridge. Overall a very pleasant experience if you come early enough and don't have to wait in line.
