It was my first time to have the meats cooked in charcoal at a KBBQ place and I must day it adds that extra charred taste to the meats in a good way. The meats were decent. Tried the chicken and the beef brisket. Both were good. I also like that they cook the meats for you. The sides were also the staple sides you get in a KBBQ place. There weren't also a lot of main dishes and a la carte on the menu. We tried the fried fish and it was decent and crunchy. Service was fast. There weren't a lot of people during Friday lunch. My husband came to eat here one time during his lunch break he got some sort of spicy soup. So today he wanted to take me to try it for my first time. We got there as soon as they opened at 11, he ordered the same soup and I ordered short marinated ribs with white rice and a fried egg. The food was a 7/10 for me. The place was empty maybe too early for lunchtime. When it was time to pay the lady came to our table 2 different times trying to get the check, 3rd time around we gave her cash to pay for our check the bill came out to $78. We got our change and walked out. The lady came out in full speed mode demanding us to give her tip. We were shocked so we gave her $5 she was pissed and started demanding for more and saying she didn't want the $5 to give her more. Then another man worker came out and started recording us and asked what was the problem and I told him that she was forcing us to tip her and the amount she wanted not what we wanted to give her. They were really rude. We paid for our food and I don't think we have to be force to tip if we didn't feel necessary. Never going back there again. read more

We have short rib, LA galbi, beef tongue and shrimps. Server cooked the food patiently for us. The vent is just above the grill but we smell like grilled meat anyway. We usually have Korean BBQ at AYCE spots. We wanted to try something different and we expected a better experience with higher end meats and appetizers. Seafood pancake: Crsipy with nice flavor. It didn't look like it was packed with a lot of seafood. Size is more on the thin side compared to other pancakes we've had at other places. Prime brisket: There wasn't a lot of marbling so the meat would taste dry if not eaten soon after leaving the grill. Taste was average. The brisket sauce helped add flavor. Marinated short rib: This was the star of the show. This choice had the best flavor, texture, and mouth feel. One of the best short ribs we've had to date. Bibimbap: This choice was just ok. No rice included, so the rice provided with the meats had to supplement this entree. Service: The waitress cooked the brisket and short ribs relatively fast. We felt rushed to consume it after leaving the grill, else it would get cold and placing it back on the grill ourselves would overcook it and dry it out. Wifey noticed similar service to the table next to us. When I was found cooking the meat myself, she would quickly come to the table and resumed cooking. It may be their policy to do the cooking since the coals were very hot. The amount of foil provided around the grill wasn't enough to accommodate the amount of cooked meat. Some pieces would slide off the foil onto the table top. Ambiance is casual. No need to dress to impress. Yoir clothes can still smell despite having overhead exhausts above the grill. If you are used to grilling your own meat and eating at your own pace, then this place isn't for you. We had higher expectations given our experience with AYCE KBBQ spots. Honestly such a hole in the wall! I've lived in Santa Clara County for about 5 years now and this is my first time visiting Han Sung BBQ. We ordered steamed egg and it had so much flavor unlike other places where it would be bland. We also ordered brisket, galbi, bulgogi, and whole squid and those did not disappoint. Our meal came with traditional side dishes and rice and servers would cook our meat over charcoal giving it such an authentic flavor. I called 7pm on a Saturday (11/29/2025) and asked how long the wait for a walk in was. They said it was short and to come. I told them I would come around 8pm and if that was okay. They said it was fine, and the line would be short. My drive was 60 minutes and I showed up anddddd they're closed (early!!!!) .... I was NOT happy. I wouldn't have minded if they were closed and straight up told me, but they just told me that they would be open (AND their hours online say they go until 9!!!). I just thought it was crazy that I showed up at 8pm for dinner on a Saturday after calling to confirm and they lied to me... but yeah. Didn't get to try their food. I used to come here a lot as I enjoy the charcoal flavored bbq here. Not every Korean bbq place uses charcoal so I'm glad it's still in business after all these years. I personally prefer suwon style kalbi but for regular kalbi this is definitely one of the better places in the Bay Area because of the traditional charcoal they use. I don't think the seafood is as good as the beef so I'd skip the seafood but you can't go wrong with kalbi. It can get busy. There are so many different sections that there should always be seating available as the restaurant is surprisingly huge inside. However as it gets busy service can be spotty because not enough waiters are available to cook for you. read more

First time for dinner and came with two colleagues. We got there around 5pm (early for a usual dinner crowd) and were the only ones there. Being the only ones in the restaurant, the staff kept asking us to order when we clearly hadn't even had a chance to review the menu. We ordered after about ten minutes just so they'd leave us alone. We chose three meats for the charcoal bbq. The meat cuts and portions were decent, not great but not paper thin like other Korean bbq places. However I was disappointed in the minimal banchans (six varieties). I could keep my expectations in check for banchans, but after we asked for the second refill of lettuce (to wrap the meat in), the server literally mumbled "oh my god" and walked away to get extra lettuce. The attitude in rushing us to order and grief when refilling the lettuce (to eat the $130 we spent on meat!) warrants the two stars. I don't plan to return. read more

I was blown away at my experience here at Han Sung. This is a kbbq spot that specializes in charcoal grilling. All the meats are ordered a la carte. The servers are good at cooking the meats and cutting them up for you. I felt like I was always being fed! Let's start with appetizers. The seafood pancake is a MUST if you love fried stuff and seafood. I couldn't get enough of it. You can pass on the dumplings and tempura. We also tried the japchae and it was so good! A lot of veggies in it though, but the flavor of the meat and oil in the noodles were delicious. My favorite meat was the marinated kalbi. So tender. I also liked the beef tongue, which came out already cooked on a stone grill. The brisket wasn't bad either. I wished there was brisket sauce. The seafood tofu soup was actually very tasty. It wasn't too spicy so you could enjoy the taste. The tofu tasted a lot like soy and it was super soft, which was a pleasantly interesting experience to me since tofu soup usually has harder tofu. We also ordered the bossam and to be honest I wouldn't reorder that again since the rest of the meal was already flavorful. The bossam pork belly itself was bland. Almost dish we ordered was basically 10/10. Came here twice within one week with two different parties, both times, left more than satisfied. Charcoal grill, they cook for you. First time, they came by more frequently and our meat didn't burn. The second time I came, they came by less frequently and we ended up grilling our own meat. - brisket: slightly thicker than most other KBBQ places, but loved that! It's still thin, but it's not Korean face mask thin and 90% fat (like Gen's is). Classic, can't go wrong ordering this. - LA galbi: a little on the fattier side, but seasoned sooooo well. A favorite by each party both times I went. - pork belly: they cook it in the back and it comes with grilled/fried kimchi. It was really good the first time, but the second time, it was extremely dry and not a favorite. - cold buckwheat noodle soup: 5/5, amazing, get it if you like this dish. It's on the saltier side, but I'm extremely happy because it didn't taste watered down. - steamed egg: steamed to perfection. -- It's a bit pricey, but I think the meat is pretty good quality. I've only been here once and it'a definitely one of my favorite in the Bay! My boyfriend and I stopped by on a Saturday night around 6 pmish and we were seated immediately. Shortly after, more and more people came in so I would definitely come by early if you can. The service was great! All the staff members were super sweet and they assisted with the cooking. We ordered three bbq items + steamed eggs for the two of us and it perfectly filled us up. We also had two beers and everything came out to around $202. The ventilation is also really good and there's space between each table so it doesn't get too smokey in the restaurant. The beef quality was immaculate and one of the best in the area. The charcoal also gave the meat more flavor than a regular gas grill. A lot of reviews have give the restaurant lower ratings due to the price of the meats, but I highly believe the quality of the meat justifies the price. Honestly, if you can't afford quality meats just go to Gen LOL. My favorite meat I've ordered would be their wagyu rib-eye. The bbq items came with ban chans, soups, salad and rice. I've never had an experience like this at a restaurant before!! The food here is expensive and the service is terrible. Our waitress and the host (or the owner) were rushing us while we were ordering, they barely came by our table to check on us and when I went up to ask for utensils, the lady was very rude. The worst part was when I was paying, since the service was really bad, I only left 10% tip and apparently that wasn't enough. The waitress came back to my table and said the tip is "no good" and I need to put "at least" 15%......... also, they calculate the tip after tax!! If the service was good, I wouldn't mind leaving a high tip but the food was already expensive and the service was awful so 15% is just not ok!! Would not recommend coming here at all! read more

Korean BBQ experiences just aren't the same without the charcoal! Nothing gets the meat as charred and flavorful. My boyfriend and I visited Hansung on a Sunday evening for dinner, and there was surprisingly no wait! We had a really seamless experience here, and service was top notch. The Korean ladies were on top of it and very helpful with cooking the meat. Their menu is so impressive, and there are so many different options, KBBQ or not. We got the Boneless Beef Short Ribs and the Spicy Pork for the grill. We wanted the Pork Belly, but apparently that dish comes out already prepared. Both of the meats we got were tender and high-quality. I'm typically not the biggest fan of Spicy Pork, but I thought they did a really great job with their marinade. Along with the meat, we also ordered Kimchi Tofu Soup and Cold Noodles (Naengmyun). The Tofu Soup always hits the spot when eating KBBQ, and the Cold Noodles were a great little snack after we finished the meats. There was no wait and the service was excellent. Our waiter cooked the meat for us, but she cooked it a bit fast for me (I'm a bit of a slow eater and I enjoy my meals slowly), so our cooked meat was left on the foil near the edge of the grill to keep warm I'm guessing. This was our first visit to this restaurant. When we arrived, we could smell the smoke from the charcoal BBQ grills. I was surprised that all the meats on the BBQ menu were quite pricey for lunch. We ordered the boneless short rib, and it came with soup, lettuce, and some small side dishes that I'm sad to say I wasn't quite familiar with (and the server didn't seem to speak much English so our questions about the food went unanswered). They brought lettuce in a bowl that had no discernible dressing on it. The soup was somewhat salty and a bit bland. There was a side dish that looked like bean sprouts or noodles of some sort (I didn't try it), steamed rice, a dish that was similar in flavor to sauerkraut and was absolutely delicious ( I think it was a pickled radish), a few pieces of cooked potatoes, a small bowl of bland gelatinous squares that after a google search I determined may be mung bean jelly slices, plus a tasty sauce for the meat. When the guy came by to drop the charcoal in our BBQ pit the embers flew all over the place, with some landing on me, the table, and the floor. I quickly brushed them off me so as to avoid any kind of embarrassing spontaneous combustion. The server came by with the meat and silently grilled it up for us, adding pieces to the aluminum foil surrounding the pit once they were done. The meat was tender, smoky, and quite good. Unfortunately, as the server was grilling the meat, she was hastily dropping it onto the foil, and pieces of meat were rolling onto the table. So essentially, we were eating food directly off the table, which from a cleanliness perspective wasn't something that I was very comfortable with. The service was good (although quiet and a bit robotic). The location was in a strip mall so parking is no problem. I will say that they do give you a lot of meat, so if you're a carnivore and don't mind the high price this might be appealing. If you decide to go, don't forget to wear your fashionable flame-retardant suit. read more
