Really great food, friendly service and a wide range of options. They actually use charcoal for the grill which is enjoyed a lot more than a hot plate. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Decor is minimal but clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Will absolutely be back.

This is our favorite Korean bbq restaurant for years! We have been getting it to-go the last few times and the quality is still good and portions are a good size. U also get a container with all the sides too so you don't miss out on anything if you get it to-go!

This review is for a large group dining. We show up without reservations and have a party for 10. They are very accommodating and service is good! We have short rib, LA galbi, beef tongue and shrimps. Server cooked the food patiently for us. The vent is just above the grill but we smell like grilled meat anyway. It feels chilly to sit there and a bit too noisy. Parking is easy and they take credit card. Food quality is good. Please ask for forks otherwise you only get chopsticks. Dessert is a rice water, that I am not impressed.

We usually have Korean BBQ at AYCE spots. We wanted to try something different and we expected a better experience with higher end meats and appetizers. Seafood pancake: Crsipy with nice flavor. It didn't look like it was packed with a lot of seafood. Size is more on the thin side compared to other pancakes we've had at other places. Prime brisket: There wasn't a lot of marbling so the meat would taste dry if not eaten soon after leaving the grill. Taste was average. The brisket sauce helped add flavor. Marinated short rib: This was the star of the show. This choice had the best flavor, texture, and mouth feel. One of the best short ribs we've had to date. Bibimbap: This choice was just ok. No rice included, so the rice provided with the meats had to supplement this entree. Service: The waitress cooked the brisket and short ribs relatively fast. We felt rushed to consume it after leaving the grill, else it would get cold and placing it back on the grill ourselves would overcook it and dry it out. Wifey noticed similar service to the table next to us. When I was found cooking the meat myself, she would quickly come to the table and resumed cooking. It may be their policy to do the cooking since the coals were very hot. The amount of foil provided around the grill wasn't enough to accommodate the amount of cooked meat. Some pieces would slide off the foil onto the table top. Ambiance is casual. No need to dress to impress. Yoir clothes can still smell despite having overhead exhausts above the grill. If you are used to grilling your own meat and eating at your own pace, then this place isn't for you. We had higher expectations given our experience with AYCE KBBQ spots. We won't return overall, it was an average experience.

One of the only korean charcoal bbq restaurants left! Always enjoy han sung's kalbi and definitely recommend this place, especially for large parties! [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's never too crowded and the ladies are pretty helpful.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

If you are looking for Korean traditional bbq with charcoal, this is the place to go. Unfortunately, it's not all you can eat. But the charcoal makes a big difference in terms of taste. The naengmyeon was delicious as well. Plenty of banchan and good service. They helped grilling the meat for you.

I used to come here a lot as I enjoy the charcoal flavored bbq here. Not every Korean bbq place uses charcoal so I'm glad it's still in business after all these years. I personally prefer suwon style kalbi but for regular kalbi this is definitely one of the better places in the Bay Area because of the traditional charcoal they use. I don't think the seafood is as good as the beef so I'd skip the seafood but you can't go wrong with kalbi. It can get busy. There are so many different sections that there should always be seating available as the restaurant is surprisingly huge inside. However as it gets busy service can be spotty because not enough waiters are available to cook for you.

It was my first time trying this kbbq restaurant and the food was pretty good. Service was great. Staff were attentive and friendly especially the owner. She was constantly checking up on us and joking with us. The restaurant was located in a shopping plaza with plenty of parking spaces. It was inside but the service was fast. We ordered charcoal bbq with beef short ribs, prime brisket and pork belly slices. We also ordered steamed eggs and seafood pancakes. Everything came out with banchan and rice. Overall, the food was good and the service was amazing. Price was on the higher end but the quality of meat was good. I would like to come back to try their own dishes and eat more kbbq.

Fil suggested this place for dinner. It's been well over a decade since I last dined here. Made reservations but it was pretty empty when we arrived. This place is old school and uses charcoal. We ordered a bunch of meats. I liked the fresh rib eye, brisket and wagyu ( really tender!). The intestines were too soft and chewy. Banchans were small and unimpressive. Service was good. Surprisingly we didn't not smell like cooked meat when we left!

Hard to find good, quality KBBQ in my area, so I came down to Santa Clara. Not AYCE; pay per order (a la carte). Came here twice within one week with two different parties, both times, left more than satisfied. Charcoal grill, they cook for you. First time, they came by more frequently and our meat didn't burn. The second time I came, they came by less frequently and we ended up grilling our own meat. - brisket: slightly thicker than most other KBBQ places, but loved that! It's still thin, but it's not Korean face mask thin and 90% fat (like Gen's is). Classic, can't go wrong ordering this. - LA galbi: a little on the fattier side, but seasoned sooooo well. A favorite by each party both times I went. - pork belly: they cook it in the back and it comes with grilled/fried kimchi. It was really good the first time, but the second time, it was extremely dry and not a favorite. - cold buckwheat noodle soup: 5/5, amazing, get it if you like this dish. It's on the saltier side, but I'm extremely happy because it didn't taste watered down. - steamed egg: steamed to perfection. -- It's a bit pricey, but I think the meat is pretty good quality. Each meat comes with a rice and salad too. First time I went, I wasn't given soup; second time I went, I was given soup. (Soybean paste soup.) -- Will likely make this my go-to spot for KBBQ

Even without a reservation, we were warmly greeted and quickly added to the waitlist. For a Thursday evening, the restaurant was pleasantly busy and buzzing with energy which is exactly the kind of lively atmosphere we love. There's plenty of parking, and the space itself is spotless, beautifully decorated, and clearly well cared for. The staff were all so friendly, welcoming, and attentive. The star of the show was definitely the meat. After trying nearly every Korean BBQ spot in Santa Clara, I can confidently say Chungdam has the best quality in the area. The difference in flavor and texture of the beef is immediately noticeable. It was tender, well-marbled, and full of rich taste. The banchan were outstanding too, especially the raw crab (my absolute favorite). We also loved the steamed egg, japchae, and bibimbap which were all delicious and perfectly executed. Our server, Bryan, took excellent care of us on our first visit and made the whole experience even better. He even told us about a back room that you can reserve for special occasions or even for hosting after work gatherings or dinners with friends We'll definitely be back soon! This was an absolute 10/10!!

FOOD: 4 SERVICE: 4…read moreAMBIANCE: 4 VALUE: 4 With so many choices in Santa Clara, why would you come here? Well, it is the overall quality, of the meats, of the service and the ambiance. We ordered the Signature A set menu for two. This set consisted of: Glass Noodles w/Beef and Mushrooms - really is Japchae, glass noodles stir fried with beef slices, mushrooms and cabbage. A savory, umami dish to start the palate. Selection of Banchan - spring onion pancakes, creamy macaroni, chili crab, cabbage kimchi and seaweed. All very tasty, especially the chili crab (sweet tasting meat). Bibimbap - a full size serving of rice, mixed vegetables, ground beef served in a hot stone bowl with a fried egg on top. My wife who is very picky about bibimbap, said this was very good. Soy Bean Stew - aka beef tofu soup, spicy, hearty and flavorful with tender cubes of beef. Marinated Short Rib - two very good sized rib steak, tender (Wagyu like) and grilled to perfection by the staff. The Signature set really did show off the best of what Chungdam has to offer.

Service was good. food was delicious! the bulgogi was generous portions given the $$. The kal bi was delicious. We got the lettuce wrap (aka leaves) glad we got it because it made it feel healthier. banchan: came with: square little rice paper wraps (not as healthy as lettuce but something), kim chee, sprouts, marinated onions with peppers (spicy! but I'm a wimp, any spice is too much for me), jap chae I didn't like the self-order on tablet. (at least it wasn't order off phone, I really hate that) at other restaurants if you order enough, they "service you" free steamed egg. Here I had to buy it myself. negative, there was a dripping pipe on the floor, and we had to point it out for them to wipe it, but then it dripped more. was that water? or grease? who knows. we had to suggest they put a towel so I didn't have to stare at it creeping towards me all night. fun korean pop music in background. cheaper feeling ambiance. definitely coming again for the food and minimal line. didn't like that tip defaulted to 20% minimum (then 23%, 28%) but at least they calculate that pre-tax.

The bossam took a while to come out, and by then we were already pretty full off of the pancake, soup and bibimbap. Service sizes are generous, and this definitely would've been enough for 4+ people to share. There was a great assortment of different banchan - my favorite is the jelly! The pancake was nice and crispy, with a good amount of seafood, the bibimbap had a great amount of crispy rice at the bottom and the tofu soup was comforting and exactly what we were looking for. The bossam had a lot of meat - I kind of wished there was more radish and napa to go with the meat, but it was tender, not too fatty, and satisfying. We had plenty of leftovers to take home. Jang su jang is still a classic staple, and has a delicious offering for almost any korean craving you could want. It's a little pricey, but comparable to other options in the area with consistent quality that makes it worth it in my opinion.

I highly recommend ordering the combos here over ala carte! All the food came out piping hot and fresh. It was the perfect bar food; just really expensive for the quality of what you're eating. By the time we were done with our second item, we asked them to just not bring out the third item in our combo because it was clear they hadn't even begun to prepare it because they forgot again. Despite only receiving two of the three items in our combo over the span of our two hours, they still charged us the full $73 for the combo. Additionally, they kept bringing out the wrong items and also brought out things twice when we had already received it. Food overall was undeniably bad for how it was priced. The quality of the pork in the katsu was extremely tough and stringy, not to mention how it was absolutely drowned in sauce. Kimchi fried rice was wet, as it was drowned in sauce and oil, barely fried. Chicken wings were also drenched in oil and sauce, and it was soggy, rubbery, and overall terrible. In conclusion, don't waste your time or money here. This was my second time at this establishment, and both times were atrocious.
