Brisket, Sides and Cheese Corn (Small Portion)
    Christina T.

I came here with my partner to celebrate a birthday dinner, and unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. The reviews are very high, which honestly feels a bit misleading based on what we experienced. We ordered the 4-meat special for $126 and chose pork cheek, bulgogi, brisket, and galbi (which was an extra $9), bringing our total to $135 before tax. For that price, the portions were surprisingly small, especially the pork cheek and brisket.and the quality wasn't anything extraordinary. The bulgogi and galbi were good, but not enough to justify the overall cost. The galbi was definitely the highlight of the meal. Service was also lacking. We had to ask multiple times for radish because the portions they brought out were very small. When we asked for sauce refills, instead of letting us refill it ourselves, the server did it but put the sauces in the wrong compartments and only briefly apologized. It just felt disorganize and like the stuff was rushing everything with only 3-4 other parties in the store. There were also a few misses with our order. We ordered one plain rice and one kimchi fried rice, but the kimfried rice was forgotten, and we had to follow up to get it. We were given a very small portion of cheese corn as well, which didn't feel proportional to the price, you can even see how small it is in the photo. On a positive note, they did give us a complimentary egg puff soup, which was a nice gesture. Overall, I was disappointed with the experience. Between the pricing, portion sizes, and service issues, it didn't meet expectations, and I don't think I would come back.

We freakin love tobannggg! The aunties totally take care of you and their prices are so reasonable. Ambiance is a bit hole in the wall but brings you to korea. I can say their food is so consistent. They will refill your banchans and take good care of you! Thank you Tobanggg!

Love their banchan, honestly a great selection. Very good bang for your buck honestly and great service. They gave us a free steamed egg on the house! Love this place

    BUG!!!

Extremely disappointing experience. We found what appeared to be a large insect embedded in one of the pancakes. Food safety issues can happen anywhere, but what matters is how a restaurant responds. Unfortunately, there was no apology, explanation, or concern shown by the owner. She simply took the pancake away, insisted that we pay the full bill, and asked us to leave. The lack of accountability and basic customer service was more upsetting than the food issue itself. A sincere apology and an effort to make things right would have gone a long way. Instead, we left feeling dismissed and unwelcome. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend this restaurant.

A lot of meat options to choose from. The kimchi fried rice & tofu soup was really good too. Definitely would come back here!

There are many great Korean restaurants within this plaza, and ToBang is one of them. On a weekday evening, this restaurant was almost completely full. My friend and I were able to get seating immediately, and I love how the menu is organized into different meal sets. We tried their Special-A set and got an additional soup (kimchi jjigae). The meats we tried were pork belly and brisket. Both the brisket and pork belly were sliced thin, and they were delicious when grilled! There was a variety of banchan, along with cheese corn and seafood pancake. The kimchi jjigae was spicy and hearty, completing our meal. We could have eaten less and taken some leftovers as the portion size was generous, but my friend and I ended up eating to our hearts' content.

Been coming to this place for years now, so this review is long overdue. I just went there with my spouse and a friend from out of town so this is my most up to date experience. Every time I come here I'm starving. I order a size down for the group I'm with (ie: if I'm with 3 ppl I order the set for 2) and we all leave stuffed with leftovers. Service is great, fast and attentive. Free bonchon refills make the meal more worthwhile. Cups and utensils are all metal, chopsticks are disposable. Meat is good quality and quantity for the price The sets include fewer items than they did back in the day but it's all good; I am still full when I leave. They have renovated the place with better fume hoods and they've expanded so I feel like the improvements in ambience compensate for the changes. We ordered the 1-2 ppl set, plus kalbi and an extra tofu soup. With tax it was $105. Came out to $35 a person. Very worthwhile I will be back, this place is open on Christmas on New years day fyi! Pics are post prandial, I am not great at grabbing pics beforehand. I will improve!

Corn cheese and kimchi fried rice

We came here on a Friday night at around 6:30 and surprisingly did not have to wait at all. We got the two meat option, with bulgogi and brisket and added a beef and tofu soup. The food came out extremely fast and the bulgogi was huge. We opted for the kimchi fried rice, which was okay in my opinion. I do wish they gave larger portions of the side dishes used to wrap the meats like the radish, lettuce and rice paper as we did have to ask for refills a lot but I did appreciate that they came to help cook the meats. The tofu soup was pretty tasty too, though the meat was pretty tough. Overall, I generally prefer AYCE for the price but not a bad option to settle your kbbq craving.

ToBang is a gem I had no expectations for. Picked this place on a whim for lunch and was disappointed to find that it wasn't AYCE. My surprise when it was better than I thought. Banchan here was out of this world! Everything was a slap of umami, from potatoes, radish, fish cakes, japchae, and seaweed. Table set up was magical and I can't talk enough about how good the banchan was. The sets we ordered also came with seafood pancakes and those hit the spot too! When the meat came we got straight to business. You get a few choices but I recommend getting the bulgogi. It comes to you already cooked so you don't have to deal with the wait while the meat cooks which we all know of all too well. Bulgogi was also amazing on a bed of onions on a hot plate. At the end, the also gave us some yakults for our gut health! I couldn't ask for a better lunch. The servers were also the kindest, I felt like family was serving me. Like I finally had my own ajumma. They were so quick with serving water and sides. They really cared about us and whether or not we were enjoying our meal. They were flying through the restaurant and their hardwork is very apparent. God bless you aunties!

Came here several times throughout the years, but giving a review for the most recent visit on the weekend. We had a party of 9 and called ahead to make reservations. When we arrived, our table was all set - place settings, sauces, cups, water. We ordered 2 of the Special-C. Everything tasted so good - the banchan, the meats, the steamed egg, the seafood pancake, the ramen, the kimchi fried rice, the galbi jjim, the tteokbokki. The food kept coming and coming. We had to keep making room on our table to fit everything. They cooked the meats right in front of us on the grill, and they were always so attentive! They kept coming back to refill our banchan without us needing to ask! They also were so generous and gave us an extra steamed egg on the house, and an extra ramen on the house too! Felt like royalty! Loved the hospitality and the special attention they gave us. They even gave us some kimchi fried rice to take home! So sweet!

This has always been our go-to KBBQ spot! On this latest visit, I especially appreciated the great customer service, speed of service, and quality of all the dishes! They revamped their menu sets to be more straightforward for first-timers, and I appreciate how they take your order before you sit down to ensure they keep things moving quickly. There is never a very long wait time, again due to how efficient they are with running the restaurant. Some of my favorite staples here are the spicy BBQ chicken (not too spicy for my weak self and packed full of flavor,) bulgogi, seafood pancake, and tofu soup. The portions are on the bigger side in my opinion, so if you're on the fence about getting that extra meat dish, I'd go without it and just order more if you still feel hungry. All in all a solid Bay Area KBBQ institution!

ToBang has been around for a while, and like many people, it's one of our go-to KBBQ spots in the area. It's not AYCE, but the meat quality is always solid. I'll admit, I didn't really understand the hype at first many years ago, but after trying other places nearby, I totally get it now. It's a no-frills, quick-in, quick-out kind of spot. They're super efficient -- there's almost always a line, but they keep things moving without it feeling rushed. You order by set type depending on the number of people, which makes it easy. The seafood pancake is delicious, and for meat, the brisket is our go-to which never disappoints. I love that they often give out little extras like corn cheese or mini tteokbokki alongside the banchan! There's always a wait on weekends, so make sure you go early enough so you don't have to wait too long.

Great food for a good price. My party made a reservation 30 minutes in advance ahead on a Saturday lunch. Parking here is horrible though! Make sure to accommodate for that on a weekend. We ordered the set B which came with 3 meats from a selection. We opted for the beef belly, pork belly and for $9 extra, the galbi, which came cooked already. They refilled our side dishes and often checked up on us. Only concern I wanted to express was one of the servers seemed a little pushy/rushed us when ordering. Other servers were really nice and checked up on us a lot. Otherwise, food was good.

The location that we went to is located next to Maggiano's Little Italy in Santana Row on Olin Ave. There is a free 2 hour parking structure across of the restaurant where my boyfriend and I parked at. We came during their Lunch Specials (until 4pm) and Happy Hour (from 3-5:30pm) which worked perfectly as we wanted something smaller in portion compared to the dinner portions. We started off with drinks. I got their Pig Ol' Bitties Blonde Ale, and my boyfriend got their Friday Beer & Shot special of This Little Piggy Went to [Mark]et with a 16 oz Dirty Little Pig IPA and a shot of Benchmark whiskey. My fault for having him get a whiskey shot on an empty stomach, though HAHA. He did like how smooth the whiskey was at least! We shared a 2-meat BBQ Lunch Combo Plate, and honestly, we should have gotten 3 meats because of how tender and delicious everything was! We got their Tri Tip and Sliced Brisket with their Garlic Mash and server recommended Sweet Potato Tots. Ahhh, everything was so good! Aside from the tender, flavorful meats, the two sides, especially the garlic mash, were sooooo good. We both loved everything! It was definitely a great choice coming during lunch as we were quite full after ordering one of their happy hour shareables of Chips & Queso (kind of pricey even for happy hour in my opinion for chips and cheese). Honestly wished we got their Chili Cheese Fries or their other fries which were the same price than just chips and dip LOL. But it was a good hold over food with us drinking a bit (at least for me). Shoutout to the only server who was working on a late Friday afternoon as she was doing her best to accommodate everyone + trying to clean up the previous tables. It was kind of sad seeing that the other workers didn't help bus the tables in my opinion. Overall, a great place to watch sports and have some good whiskey as this restaurant is known for their whiskey selections! The lunch BBQ exceeded our expectations, and we would definitely come back for another lunch special meal but probably with 3 meats this time!

They "forgot" our last item and we had to chase the waiter for it and it took forever to arrive while other latecomers got their food fast. How unprofessional, inattentive and biased! Unappealing decor. The bizarre message written on wall in Chinese was pretentious. Loud place filled with young, drunk and obnoxious clientele. Friendship BBQ focuses more on making money than "Friendship". The worst part - it makes you sick. I did NOT like both food and service at all. Won't be back and do not recommend this place to anyone.

Wow. It was a 45 minute wait for 3 on a Friday afternoon. We walked in around 11:47. First time…read morecoming here and really enjoyed the service. You can also waitlist on Yelp so that's great. They have that call button to ask for anything you need from the server. Wonderful! The food was delicious. Loved the drink and the banchan. The pancake was everyone's favorite. Couldn't believe there was also crab too? The prices were very reasonable. We wanted to try the special but it was sold out. So we will have to come again next time maybe earlier ... Ordered 2 bibimap beef. What a workout to get that crisp rice out from the bottom. That bowl stayed hot for a long time. The seating was wonderful. Didn't know where to sit and just said first available but the hostess and host was very kind. They got us a table with the bbq grill. Those seats are really comfy and were probably better for my parents. Would like to try some bbq next time too. Can't wait to come back

I stopped by Chungdam with a friend around 12pm on a Tuesday, and it was relatively busy - but we…read moredid get a table without wait. The service is really prompt, and there's a button to ask for help when you're ready to order or want a refill on banchan, for the check, etc. The interior is nice, modern and slightly upscale. They asked us if we preferred a bbq table and we said we didn't and were led to a bench table. I got the galbitang (the special magnum galbitang was already sold out for the day), and my friend got the chef's special rice cake and dumpling soup. Both came out perfectly hot but not burning, and were the comforting, rich, savory and flavorful stews that we were craving. The galbitang had a generous amount of rib meat that was tender but not falling apart, and the perfect amount of glass noodle. The broth was clean and savory, and I really enjoyed the bits of jujube. I tried a bit of the rice cake and dumpling soup as well, and the dumplings were super large with a soft tofu? filling that was really enjoyable with the creamy soup. Special shoutout to the banchan - one of which was raw marinated crab which was super sweet and tasty with the rice. I also really appreciated the barley tea and the sweet pumpkin soup at the end for dessert, which really round out the experience. There's also a pumpkin porridge in the beginning as an appetizer, but I didn't love it because it had a bit of a raw rice flour type flavor to it. Overall, Chungdam is a classic that serves great, flavorful and comforting food, with excellent service and is a great, well rounded experience!
