    Galbi

I've been meaning to try this place out for years and finally had the opportunity recently. ToBang exceeded my expectations and is one of the best family-owned spots that I've been to in awhile! We ordered the Special A set and chose galbi (+$9) and brisket as our meats. The staff assisted us with cooking the brisket and the galbi came prepared on a sizzling plate. All combos come with unlimited sides and the servers made sure all of our side dishes were stocked at all times. I love how the set also comes with a choice of white rice or korean fried rice plus cheese corn. For an additional $10, we added bibim naengmyeon to our order which was super refreshing. You can also add a soup to your meal for $9. Although this set included two choices of meats, it was more than enough for my party of 2. All this came out to be under $100 which is so affordable considering the quality of the meats! The side dishes and appetizers were superb as well. Good amount of customers for a weekday dinner. This place is great for small or large parties. Very spacious restaurant and the servers were super kind and attentive. I'll definitely be coming back!

They comped us a free beer because they were a little busy but we got helped relatively quickly. The food is more than enough for two and the service is amazing!

Got the special C combo for 5 adults and it filled us all. Comes with 4 meat choices - we chose 2 beef brisket, beef belly, and beef intestine. It also came with seafood pancake, kimchi fried rice, 2 steamed white rice, spicy cold noodles and tons of side dishes. The fish cake came out warm which was pleasantly nice since it usually comes out cold. The portions were generous and service is quick. Lots of seating and large space.

I came here with my partner to celebrate a birthday dinner, and unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. The reviews are very high, which honestly feels a bit misleading based on what we experienced. We ordered the 4-meat special for $126 and chose pork cheek, bulgogi, brisket, and galbi (which was an extra $9), bringing our total to $135 before tax. For that price, the portions were surprisingly small, especially the pork cheek and brisket.and the quality wasn't anything extraordinary. The bulgogi and galbi were good, but not enough to justify the overall cost. The galbi was definitely the highlight of the meal. Service was also lacking. We had to ask multiple times for radish because the portions they brought out were very small. When we asked for sauce refills, instead of letting us refill it ourselves, the server did it but put the sauces in the wrong compartments and only briefly apologized. It just felt disorganize and like the stuff was rushing everything with only 3-4 other parties in the store. There were also a few misses with our order. We ordered one plain rice and one kimchi fried rice, but the kimfried rice was forgotten, and we had to follow up to get it. We were given a very small portion of cheese corn as well, which didn't feel proportional to the price, you can even see how small it is in the photo. On a positive note, they did give us a complimentary egg puff soup, which was a nice gesture. Overall, I was disappointed with the experience. Between the pricing, portion sizes, and service issues, it didn't meet expectations, and I don't think I would come back.

We freakin love tobannggg! The aunties totally take care of you and their prices are so reasonable. Ambiance is a bit hole in the wall but brings you to korea. I can say their food is so consistent. They will refill your banchans and take good care of you! Thank you Tobanggg!

There are many great Korean restaurants within this plaza, and ToBang is one of them. On a weekday evening, this restaurant was almost completely full. My friend and I were able to get seating immediately, and I love how the menu is organized into different meal sets. We tried their Special-A set and got an additional soup (kimchi jjigae). The meats we tried were pork belly and brisket. Both the brisket and pork belly were sliced thin, and they were delicious when grilled! There was a variety of banchan, along with cheese corn and seafood pancake. The kimchi jjigae was spicy and hearty, completing our meal. We could have eaten less and taken some leftovers as the portion size was generous, but my friend and I ended up eating to our hearts' content.

Been coming to this place for years now, so this review is long overdue. I just went there with my spouse and a friend from out of town so this is my most up to date experience. Every time I come here I'm starving. I order a size down for the group I'm with (ie: if I'm with 3 ppl I order the set for 2) and we all leave stuffed with leftovers. Service is great, fast and attentive. Free bonchon refills make the meal more worthwhile. Cups and utensils are all metal, chopsticks are disposable. Meat is good quality and quantity for the price The sets include fewer items than they did back in the day but it's all good; I am still full when I leave. They have renovated the place with better fume hoods and they've expanded so I feel like the improvements in ambience compensate for the changes. We ordered the 1-2 ppl set, plus kalbi and an extra tofu soup. With tax it was $105. Came out to $35 a person. Very worthwhile I will be back, this place is open on Christmas on New years day fyi! Pics are post prandial, I am not great at grabbing pics beforehand. I will improve!

Love their banchan, honestly a great selection. Very good bang for your buck honestly and great service. They gave us a free steamed egg on the house! Love this place

I've been coming here for 5+ years and it's still one of my go-to Korean BBQ spots because of the great prices and friendly service. It can get pretty busy during peak hours, so there may be a wait, but they're usually really good about fitting everyone in and keeping things moving. The meat is always good quality, and they give a ton of banchan with your meal. The staff is also super attentive. They'll come by to help cook the meat and check on your throughout the meal. The portions are very generous for the price, which is one of the main reasons I keep coming back. Great food, great value, and consistently good service every time.

ToBang is a gem I had no expectations for. Picked this place on a whim for lunch and was disappointed to find that it wasn't AYCE. My surprise when it was better than I thought. Banchan here was out of this world! Everything was a slap of umami, from potatoes, radish, fish cakes, japchae, and seaweed. Table set up was magical and I can't talk enough about how good the banchan was. The sets we ordered also came with seafood pancakes and those hit the spot too! When the meat came we got straight to business. You get a few choices but I recommend getting the bulgogi. It comes to you already cooked so you don't have to deal with the wait while the meat cooks which we all know of all too well. Bulgogi was also amazing on a bed of onions on a hot plate. At the end, the also gave us some yakults for our gut health! I couldn't ask for a better lunch. The servers were also the kindest, I felt like family was serving me. Like I finally had my own ajumma. They were so quick with serving water and sides. They really cared about us and whether or not we were enjoying our meal. They were flying through the restaurant and their hardwork is very apparent. God bless you aunties!

Came here several times throughout the years, but giving a review for the most recent visit on the weekend. We had a party of 9 and called ahead to make reservations. When we arrived, our table was all set - place settings, sauces, cups, water. We ordered 2 of the Special-C. Everything tasted so good - the banchan, the meats, the steamed egg, the seafood pancake, the ramen, the kimchi fried rice, the galbi jjim, the tteokbokki. The food kept coming and coming. We had to keep making room on our table to fit everything. They cooked the meats right in front of us on the grill, and they were always so attentive! They kept coming back to refill our banchan without us needing to ask! They also were so generous and gave us an extra steamed egg on the house, and an extra ramen on the house too! Felt like royalty! Loved the hospitality and the special attention they gave us. They even gave us some kimchi fried rice to take home! So sweet!

This has always been our go-to KBBQ spot! On this latest visit, I especially appreciated the great customer service, speed of service, and quality of all the dishes! They revamped their menu sets to be more straightforward for first-timers, and I appreciate how they take your order before you sit down to ensure they keep things moving quickly. There is never a very long wait time, again due to how efficient they are with running the restaurant. Some of my favorite staples here are the spicy BBQ chicken (not too spicy for my weak self and packed full of flavor,) bulgogi, seafood pancake, and tofu soup. The portions are on the bigger side in my opinion, so if you're on the fence about getting that extra meat dish, I'd go without it and just order more if you still feel hungry. All in all a solid Bay Area KBBQ institution!

Combo 6! (Serving size for 6 people)

ToBang has been around for a while, and like many people, it's one of our go-to KBBQ spots in the area. It's not AYCE, but the meat quality is always solid. I'll admit, I didn't really understand the hype at first many years ago, but after trying other places nearby, I totally get it now. It's a no-frills, quick-in, quick-out kind of spot. They're super efficient -- there's almost always a line, but they keep things moving without it feeling rushed. You order by set type depending on the number of people, which makes it easy. The seafood pancake is delicious, and for meat, the brisket is our go-to which never disappoints. I love that they often give out little extras like corn cheese or mini tteokbokki alongside the banchan! There's always a wait on weekends, so make sure you go early enough so you don't have to wait too long.

    Ask the Community - ToBang

    Is this AYCE?

No. You order by different sets a la carte.

Did this place change owner after COVID? Quite a few things have changed. I didn't see the original owner at the store anymore. She used to be in the store almost every day.

Hi. I am Kim,who take care of Tobang for 18 years. CB I have kids, so I work for Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Thank you

How do you eat the steamed egg?

    Mouth

Are there any vegetarian options there?

You can view their menu. A few dishes like the glass noodles Japchae, tofu soups and possibly Kim chi fried rice could work. It’s a Korean BBQ place so meats are plentiful. Japchae, tofu soup is a good start. I believe we were served a starter salad…

Is it all you can eat if you eat at the restaurant?

    No.

Do you have any vegetarian options or anything that can be made vegetarian?

    Laugh out loud

Are most of the meat options and sauces gluten free? I have a gluten free friend and I'd like to make sure we'd be able to discern which menu options had no gluten.

Sorry, but no. We don’t use gluten free ingredients. I can’t really tell you which menu items are gluten free. Thanks and I hope this helps.

Do they use MSG? My mom is allergic but would like to eat here.

No we do not buy MSG and put it in our food. But some of our soup dishes may have MSG because we do put in beef and seafood base powder in the the soup.

    Are you open on thanksgiving?

We are open thanksgiving day from 4pm to 9 pm

For take out, is the meat already cooked or does customer need to cook at home?

All BBQ marinated meats (Kalbi, BulGoGi, bbq chicken, spicy chicken, and spicy pork) are cooked. All plain meats (Brisket, Pork Belly and Beef belly), are raw and you need to cook at home.

How is outdoor seating experience like? is it the same as dining inside before pandemic?

There is no cooking at the table for outdoor dining. We cook the meat inside and bring it out to you. As of last week, we do have indoor dining for groups of four or less. Best to make reservations for indoor and outdoor dining.

Can you please describe your curbside pickup process? Also, can I pay over the phone? If at all possible, I want to minimize contact and remain outdoors.

You can order online at www.tobangsc.com. Click the TakeOut Orders tab. This will take you to an online ordering page. Place your order and at checkout you can request for curbside pickup. When you come to pickup your food, just park in the front…

Are you still open for pick up or delivery? Is your business the same?

Sorry but no Togo food. We will be closed until the county of Santa Clara lifts the shelter in place ordinance. We hope to open soon and thank you for you support.

Thank you, but still doesn't work for some reason. Basically we would like to reserve a table for 6 adults and one baby tomorrow at 5 pm. Is that okay?

We do not take reservations on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. You can go to yelp and get on the wait list but everyone in the party must be present to be seated. Reservations are only taken Monday to Thursday and you can also make reservations…

Is there another number I can call?call The one listed doesn't work.

Hi Huizhong Tobang’s phone number is 408-615-7540. The best time to call is after 4:30pm.

How hot and spicy is the food?

Everything is medium spicy unless stated or requested! Thank you!

Does ToBang apply the automatic 17% tip on the pre-tax or post-tax bill?

Tips should be added on pre tax component. Not on post tax.

Immediately impressed by the other clientele when we arrived. There was a crowd outside waiting to order, and when we were pondering the menu outside and telling another customer it was our first time there, he explained what his favorites were and we really appreciated that! My partner and I were craving brisket so we both ordered the same thing! Now usually we get two different things to share when we dine out, but we both didn't want to give up our brisket cravings, so alas - two LARGE orders of brisket were what we got! The brisket was delicious and tender. The end piece was too salty though, but the rest of it was tasty and had just the right amount of fat. There were about 6 small slices of brisket in the LARGE portion ($27.50) and it included 2 sides and a slice of bread. We got mac & cheese (yum), coleslaw (unique in that it didn't have much liquid but it was good!) and potato salad (also delicious!) to try. The cashier was pleasant, but otherwise there wasn't any extra service provided. We had to get our own utensils and napkins, and we had to pick up our own food when it was ready after our name was called, and we also had to get our own takeout containers and bus our own tables when we were finished! Food pricing was on the higher side. So tipping generously on a high priced meal seemed to be a little much for what we got, just sayin'! At least the food was prepared quickly. There was lots of seating both indoors and outdoors, and a full bar with a lot of draft beers and TVs - a good place to watch those sport games!

I've been to 3 others Redwood City BBQ, South Winchester BBQ (San Jose), and Canyon's BBQ (Castro Valley) and I've reviewed most of those quite favorably, except for 1. But they have about 4 others that I haven't been but are on my list. I guess now I'll know they are more the same than they are different. I knew walking in that I was going to like it. A strong aroma of wood smoke hugs you upon entering. A cool mural outside, lots of beers and bbq on the tables, cool tunes that was all over the place genre wise. 2 Meat Combo ($26/4.5*) Crazy solid combo. Not as juicy as I would prefer but between the perfect smoke content and their seasoning just makes me happy enough. Brisket: Their brisket is awesome. Not as juicy as some of the top notch places here in the Bay, but the flavor was perfect for me. Assertive smokiness without being overbearing. Get a piece with a good layer of fat and it was basically hearty beef bacon. I rarely put sauce on brisket but theirs is not bad, maybe just a dot or 2. Ribs: Also drier than what I like but the flavor and meaty texture was enough for me. Definitely have to pull these off the bone a bit, does not easily fall off, which I actually prefer. I like toothsome versus mushy meat. These ribs do have a layer of bbq sauce cooked into them, so it has a sweet and tangy flavor already in it. But they still can accept extra sauce, as it will not only moisten the ribs further but it will amp up the tang and sweetness that pork ribs are natural for. Tried 2 sides, beans and coleslaw. The beans aren't the super sweet kind, which I liked. More chili-like very hearty and complimenting to the smoky bbq. The slaw was perfect, crisp with a creamy yet slightly sweet dressing. Crazy good, I could actually eat their sides alone as a meal. Their corn bread here is strange. It is cooked in a sheetpan and cut into squares much like a brownie. But that square is then griddled til golden brown so I totally thought it was garlic bread at first. The other bbq spots I tried from this same company didn't make corn bread like that, so this was a first for me. Probably the only miss for me here. Also tried a half pound of Tri Tip ($20/4*) Very meaty that they were able to keep it a nice pink medium, which I like. But much milder in smoke than their brisket and ribs. I ended up making sandwiches with these at home. They are sliced pretty thick so you may have to slice some of them further. It bites easier in thinner slices versus monster thick slices that will pull out of the bread with each bite. I learned that on this out so just throwing out a tip. A solid bbq throwdown with a cold frosty one, plus lots of leftovers for work lunches the next few days, is just an out I can repeat over and over. Glad I found this spot!

Very disappointed with the portions and customer service…read more We've been coming here at least once or twice a month because we genuinely love the BBQ. We recently started buying the meat by the pound, and unfortunately, we've now had the same issue twice. Last time, we ordered a pound of brisket and a pound of tri-tip. When we got home, the portions seemed unusually small, so we weighed them. Both were under 15 oz. We were disappointed but assumed it was just an isolated mistake. Today, we came back and ordered a pound of brisket and a pound of tri-tip again. Unfortunately, when we got home and weighed them, both portions were under 14 oz. That is a significant difference when you are paying by the pound. I called the restaurant to let them know, and the only response I received was essentially, "Sorry." We are regular customers and really enjoy the food, which makes this especially disappointing. Mistakes can happen, but having the same issue repeatedly and then receiving no meaningful response when bringing it to the restaurant's attention is not acceptable. If you're ordering meat by the pound, I strongly recommend checking the weight before leaving or as soon as you get home. At these prices, customers should receive the amount they are paying for. Great food is not enough if regular customers don't feel they are being treated fairly. I really hope the management addresses this, because we genuinely liked coming here and would hate to stop supporting a place we used to enjoy.

We shared a 2-meat BBQ Lunch Combo Plate, and honestly, we should have gotten 3 meats because of how tender and delicious everything was! We got their Tri Tip and Sliced Brisket with their Garlic Mash and server recommended Sweet Potato Tots. Ahhh, everything was so good! Aside from the tender, flavorful meats, the two sides, especially the garlic mash, were sooooo good. We both loved everything! It was definitely a great choice coming during lunch as we were quite full after ordering one of their happy hour shareables of Chips & Queso (kind of pricey even for happy hour in my opinion for chips and cheese). Honestly wished we got their Chili Cheese Fries or their other fries which were the same price than just chips and dip LOL. But it was a good hold over food with us drinking a bit (at least for me). Shoutout to the only server who was working on a late Friday afternoon as she was doing her best to accommodate everyone + trying to clean up the previous tables. It was kind of sad seeing that the other workers didn't help bus the tables in my opinion. Overall, a great place to watch sports and have some good whiskey as this restaurant is known for their whiskey selections! The lunch BBQ exceeded our expectations, and we would definitely come back for another lunch special meal but probably with 3 meats this time!

My sister wanted bbq for her birthday and so we opted for this place. i loved they way that it was decorated. it's like a bar and bbq served in one place. Since i've never been here before i was really surprised by their portion sizes. it was well worth the money spent and picking up was easy too. super nice guys who helped me. i was a bit confused on what kind of sauces they had. the person who helped me gave me a run down and explained their sauces. they also gave me some samples to try to take home as welll. by far i think id have to agree that their tin roof sauce is the best sauce my sister even wanted to know if she could just buy their bbq sauce. other then that we ordered roughly a good portion of bbq- pulled pork, cheddar cheese jalapeño sausage, burnt ends, brisket, chicken wings, and ribs. our sides were the cajun rice, green beans, cole slaw and corn succatash. would probably love to come back for their lunch special one of these days.

The bancheon alone blew me away. The scallion pancakes were amazing, I loved the ube mash, and most everything else: tofu, quail eggs, were good. The kimchi was not too sour like I've had elsewhere. The meats were all great paired with a variety of dipping options. They were very rich for sure do I wouldn't have this every day, but there was a good amount for the price, and each cut was so tender. Some more flavorful than others, but Each stood out with different tastes. Only thing I would change is the marinated rimbs were a bit sweet for our tastes but still delicious. The bibimbap and wagyu tofu soup (comes with rice) were great as well. The ice cream was okay. Overall I for sure would come again. The server was helpful giving recommendations, but he said the protons were small and we should order more. The protons were in fact huge, so lesson learned. They also let us sit down almost 30 minutes before our reservation (do get a reservation) which was nice. The inside is dark and fancy, very clean. Seeing the raw meats on display and lots of other people's orders waiting to be served filled us with anticipation. I also appreciated the was a lot of seating for people to wait for their table including inside and outside; they probably need it. And I love that they grill for you so you don't need to worry about messing up. I wish more places did this. They were super skilled and efficient.

The banchan is generous with a great variety. Love that you also get a lot of pickled onions and fresh green onions to help cut through the richness of the meats. Ordered the beef tongue - chewy, but superb. If you haven't tried it, order it. Also the wagyu a5 and brisket which were equally delicious. The place does get crowded so reservations seem the best way to go. Fun place for a nice treat to enjoy Korean BBQ
