Three words: flies on donuts. The employee/possible owner went to gab the donut i wanted but as she went to grab it, a group of flies flew off. She then proceeded to swat the flies away from my donut. I then told her i changed my mind. She then replied," are you sure?" The sad thing is, the other donut i did buy (not in the fly infested area) was delicious. Price was good. The employee was nice. I actually wrote this review but for the wrong donut shop: To add to this, the owner's always so sweet, despite my last minute requests for bacon maple bar donuts. (Yes folks, that's how I entertain my guests...stay classy Irvine). $5.00 will get you about 4 of them, and sometimes some extra if you come towards the end. The way it's made is far from sophisticated, and is basically a slab of bacon on top of a maple bar, but it's delicious and the only one in the nearby area that does this. Try it =) OLD REVIEW*** You know how you drive around Irvine and coincidentally never see a 7/11 that's in the public view on a major street? Also notice how there's not one coin-op laundromat anywhere? Worst of all...donut shops, or lack thereof! Irvine, would it kill you to throw us a bone here and there? Well, I was pleasantly surprised to see this here. The donuts run about $.90 each, but what stands out about it is that the donuts seem bigger in size, and more importantly they are fluffy and airy. It has the delicious taste of the donut shops in the more sketchy cities, but it's more refined in presentation if there is such thing with donuts. I got the glazed twist, chocolate twist, and cajun sausage croissant...yum! Only gripe is that it doesn't do fresh sandwiches like a lot of donut shops/bagel places do. read more

I walked in here, because I was curious to check out what they had inside. I was actually on my way to Mr. Sandwich... And then I saw it. The old fashioned donut with chocolate frosting. I normally don't like old fashioned donuts. I don't like chocolate frosting, but for some reason our eyes locked. It was love at first sight, I tell you. I'm almost positive that I could hear the mice talking and could see the birds doing my chores (get it? Cinderella reference? Because love at first sight? Since their renovation, which really stepped up the scale of how a donut shop can be, the atmosphere is more along the lines of a bistro, rather than some off the wall greasy-ass donut shop. Glad to see the mom and pop owners really went to a different look. I'd hate to see how much that cost, but from the looks of business, it's been a great investment! With all the positive Yelp reviews (and yummy looking pictures), I was excited to try this place. I've gone twice now, however, and both times I've been disappointed. :/ The first time, I went on a Saturday around 12. The selection was really small. They had three trays of leftover donuts piled on top of each other. No cronuts were available that first visit, which was too bad since that was one of the things I wanted to try. But since I had made the trip, I got a pink glazed cake donut, a chocolate glazed French Crueller, a plain old fashioned, and a crumb donut. The old fashioned had a weird taste to it. Worse, was the fact that all the donuts were dry, especially the crumb donut. I was parched for water after two bites. :(( I wasn't happy at all with what I got, but I figured I'd go back one more time at an earlier hour to give them another chance and hopefully try a cronut. So the second time I went back, I got there earlier and the selection was a little better (still only a few trays on display, but less haphazardly jumbled together this time). The cronuts they had were plain, but I asked the woman behind the counter if they had any maple bacon cronuts left and she said she would make it for me, which was very nice. She picked up one of the plain ones on display and left to tinker in the back. I heard the sound of a microwave, which I'm guessing was to melt the frosting (?) since when I finally got the maple bacon cronut, the cronut itself wasn't warm. In addition to the cronut, I again tried a pink glazed and an old fashioned donut, and the lady gave me three free donut holes (which I didn't notice until I opened the bag later). Maybe I'm just not a fan of cronuts, but it wasn't very good. The exterior was so hard it was difficult to eat. The maple glaze was sickeningly sweet and overpowered the other flavors. The real bacon on top was nice, but also cut in really large pieces and not crispy, so it wasn't distributed across the top evenly and it was hard to bite through. The whole thing was messy and not that tasty. The other two donuts were average. Not quite as dry as the first time, but still underwhelming. The donut holes were extremely dry (one glazed, two crumb). Not worth the calories. I will say that the lady was very nice the second time, but I won't be coming back because the donuts just aren't that great. read more

I would sell my soul for their donuts if their donuts weren't incredibly cheap in the first place. I always like to describe their donuts to be the bigger, tastier version of a Krispy Kreme donut. I don't know how they do it, but I've never had any donut as soft and delicious as their raised donuts. I've also never had any cake donuts as moist and flavorful as Janny's. Their apple fritters are absolutely massive and their cronuts are superbly made. Heck, even their breakfast croissants are excellent. My absolute favorite go-to place that contains some of my favorite guilty pleasure foods. See you at 4 AM when they open. read more

I haven't written a review in a while, but this place brought me back to Yelp. Found them on Yelp, saw their rating, thought it'd be nice to grab some doughnuts for the office. I got a cronut for myself because I never got in on the hype. I'd honestly just give that 3.5 stars, but not because of Janny's themselves; I just really like chewy, cakey doughnuts so I don't know why I even bothered getting something that'd be crispy and flaky. Why this place deserves five stars is for their regular doughnuts, of all kinds. I bought a dozen and a half, and they were all gone. This isn't unusual for my office, but there's a few caveats. For one, my office has a lot of people from Asian countries, which 1. means they generally have high food standards, and 2. generally don't like their sweet items very sweet and sugary. Pretty much everyone who took something found me later and had to rave about the doughnuts and ask where I got them from. Everyone basically said, "I took this just to grab something even though I don't really like doughnuts, but was blown away". They were super fresh, not too sweet, and generally just super tasty. My dozen and a half included mixing in some more expensive doughnuts and they were very accommodating with working out a price for it, I'm not a doughnut person, but I think I just found my doughnut shop. read more

I initially asked how fresh the donuts were (because I have bought several stale bad tasting donuts before on different occasions at different donut shops) I was told Jannys Donuts are always fresh. That being said I ordered 1chocolate bar & 1maple bar. Paid and left to my car. As soon as I got into my car I took a bite of the maple bar just being curious how fresh these donuts were. I was not only excited how fresh they tasted and literally scarfed both donuts down. Being a donut lover, I keep tabs of the places I've visited while travelling and living. I can honestly say that this is one of the most delicious donut places I've ever been to! This review does not address the atmosphere or coffee or the location. I just wanted to share just how great these donuts actually are. I was originally introduced to Janny's Donuts when someone brought them into work. I looked over the selection and decided to go with a white cake donut with white frosting and sprinkles. Usually, I am not a sprinkles person, but that particular day they called out to me, telling me to give them a shot. And I am glad I did! The donut was sweet, tasty and fresh-- and didn't seem to have the mass production like Krispy Kreme (although Krispy Kreme donuts are some of my favorites as well!). My one sprinkle donut led me to another-- a coconut flake cake donut and which was quickly joined in my tummy by a chocolate cake donut with chopped peanuts. At this time, however, I decided that I'd had my share and avoided looking for that pink box on the breakroom table. Fas forward a week, to the following Saturday: I was feeling that familiar gnawing in my stomach for tasty donuts, so I made a journey at Janny's and decided to get some of her donuts. And I found my taste buds did not deceive me! The donuts were as fresh as the ones at work. I found the address, got in the car and drove over. Parking was not a problem at all. As I noted before, I went in to get donuts and came back out. I didn't hang out with the cool kids drinking coffee or the older men chatting and playing checkers. I made a beeline for the donut display and found a fairly unorganized, yet colorful array of donuts. I bought an assorted dozen, which included my beloved sprinkle donut! As for other flavors: the blueberry donut was tasty; the orange frosted and cherry donuts were good-- but not anything to write home about. The regular French cruller was the perfect combination of air, dough and sweetness, while the maple glazed cruller and chocolate glazed cruller were nice but could have been improved by adding the clear glaze before the chocolate or maple. The yeast donuts were my least favorite (coconut and cinnamon)-- these tasted to me like sweetbreads. Regardless, I'd highly recommend taking a couple good friends (or people you want to be friends with) and head on over to Janny's. Or maybe you're like me and want to enjoy the donuts all to yourself! :) read more

I've never gone early enough in the day where there's been any wait, but even if there was... it's worth it. The owners here are super friendly to regulars, they often give us extra donut holes. SCORE! Since I usually skip breakfast, if the hunger is too overwhelming I will stop by and grab a croissant with jalapeno & cheese (maybe ham too). Nom nom nom nom nom =D. P.S. Anyways, I went to Jannys Donuts on my way to work because I read reviews that they had good cronuts. I get there and ask for a cronut - but there are none in the display.......NOOOOOO I ask the man at the counter about the cronuts, he says that are in the cooker and almost done; would I like one? OMG would I like one!?!? Fresh donuts straight out of the cooker! YES! I got a regular glazed cronut, it was amazing. It is probably the worst food in the world for you, but it was so good. WOW!!! i couldn't believe how good their blueberry doughnuts were. they were light, fluffy, moist, sweet and amazing. i could've eaten about 5 of them in one seating...and i don't even like doughnuts. i also tried their strawberry whipped cream cronut. it was good, but not $3.25 good. it was more like a croissant with a bit of after taste that is associated with oil and fried food. i think i'm willing to work out extra just for the blueberry doughnuts. so bad...but so good!!! read more

This is my go-to place for cronuts. Each cronut was about $3.50 for each. The lady who always serve me is always so nice. Strawberry and Whipped Cream: I want to make sure that the strawberries were at least in season. Maple and Bacon: My favorite! I would like the bacon to be more crispy instead of being a little chewy. The cronut is baked to perfection because it's super flaky. Jannys is the best! I was excited to see a new donut place go in, and finally got around to trying it out. The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating, and creative with their donuts. I was discussing a donut show with the owner and mentioned that I saw maple bars topped with bacon. Not only had she also seen the show, but she thought it was a great idea and had made them herself. She said they sold really well, and now I am really hoping that I am able to find them in there some day when she makes them. The donuts themselves are very delicious. They have everything from maple bars to donut holes, old fashioned to sprinkles. Every one I have tried has been wonderful! They are always fresh and very fluffy. I highly recommend the donut holes, they are my favorite, and Jannys are sooooo yummy!!! The prices are extremely reasonable, and I am always shocked that my husband and I can get breakfast here for about $5, and still have some left over for breakfast the next day!
