This is some of the best ramen in town. While the restaurant is small and the menu isn't massive everything is wonderful. I love the edamame as well as the spicy Dosunco ramen. My biggest complaint is that the parking lot is limited and gets really full so you may have to park down a nearby street but I promise you - don't be deterred. It's worth it. I ended up going with the dosunco ramen which is their base broth plus miso. Got the pork belly on the side, but the ground beef in the soup. The ramen egg and the pork belly were both delicious. The ramen broth was very warm and soothing, but honestly lacked flavor for me. The broth was also very salty which was unfortunate. Fiery and delightful spicy garlic edamame, fresh and flavorful broths, perfectly cooked pork bellies and soft boiled eggs! The noodles also are worth mentioning- these are not your average dinky rice noodles, oh ho! These guys have heft and heart, and absorb the broth without becoming waterlogged. Very small establishment and parking is a squeeze! 1 parking spot left when we arrived so I guess it was meant to be. Upon entering you are not greeted by anyone, instead there is a hostess stand with a pad of paper for you to sign in with your name, arrival time, party size and phone number. The paper also advises to sign in and wait outside. It's small inside and PACKED so I know why the advisement! I'm really not a fan of ramen places but hubs is so I went along. Not a fan because I feel like I can make better ramen at home for the cost. And to be honest, it has never been really rave worthy to me. So this place is in that same bucket for me. It was ok and that's it. We started with the Karaage which is basically Japanese fried chicken. It came with a dipping sauce similar to spicy mayo. It was piping hot. Breading was light but the chicken had chewy areas that grossed me out. I am very picky about my chicken and that 1 piece did it for me where I couldn't eat anymore. On to the ramen. I ordered the Shoyu Ramen without the bamboo shoots because they are just weird tasting and gross. The flavor of the broth was tasty, better than my hubs Dosunco Ramen. To me his had a bad aftertaste. My pork was melt in your mouth tender. I left satisfied with the ramen. Service was ok. I hadn't been here since pre-covid and since my favourite ramen spot Ichicoro is temporarily closed I thought I'd give it a try. I had the Spicy Numb Numb Ramen. The kitchen is small and efficient while the entire staff (of 4) stayed moving the whole time. Tables were cleaned and ready for seating within minutes of each guests departure. Our server was polite but obviously doing a lot of tables so visibly anxious about keeping everyone happy while also keeping the dining area clean. We ordered Takkoyaki appetizers and the house ramen, one regular and one spicy. It's a great little spot for an inexpensive dinner as long as you don't mind the wait, our whole dining experience was just under 1.5 hrs (from arrival) which is pretty good still for a Saturday evening. It has been a long time since I've visited but distance did indeed make the heart grow fonder! I ordered the Spicy Dosunco Ramen which has a miso base and was one of the best ramens broths I've had. The balance of savory and fresh ingredients gave for a very comforting, complex dish not bogged down by heavy flavors. The pork belly was extremely tender and was easy to eat along side the noodles which is a must. We finished off the meal with green tea mochi and vanilla crepe cake. Both were the perfect amount of sweetness as i don't like extremely sweet things. The restaurant is small and cozy and the server was very attentive and pleasant. Lastly on the way out there are Gapachon (Japanese toy dispensers) which was a quirky little surprise that I've only seen at this restaurant in Tampa Bay. We are back! New parking lot pavement which is a huge improvement from our last visit. It's not the easiest place to park and not many spots to choose from. We got lucky and caught someone leaving. This is our second time back here. First time was a good experience and this time was even better. The server was attentive and polite. We ordered the gyoza, Dosunco Ramen (both spicy and regular) and it did not disappoint. It was creamy and delicious. The pork belly is tender, egg is filled with flavor and the broth. Yummmmm. i love ramen, and this is by far some of the best ramen I've had in a long time. I came in during the week, and it was pretty quiet. They have a counter you can sit at or the usual tables. Parking is easy as they have a small lot, but if the lot is full, I can totally see parking being a hassle. Now, back to the ramen.. The broth...oh my god. So perfect. I could not find one fault with it. It was perfectly salty and flavorful. Then the noodles, so chewy!!! I love a chewier noodle, so if you prefer softer noodles, I would tell them when you order. Cute cozy spot for some good ramen! My husband had the Evil Dunsuco ramen and I had the spicy dunsuco ramen. The spicy ramen was just enough heat for me, however the evil one was too spicy. My husband's nose started running...haha...but he loves spicy food and ate the whole thing! He said that he's never had a ramen that was that spicy. It was good, he said, but not sure if he'd get it again. He might just do the spicy ramen and ask for extra spice on the side if he wants to add a little more heat. We also had the gyoza and edamame which are our favorite and go-to appetizers. My 8 yr old son had a kids ramen. Upon entry we were greeted by a very friendly server who immediately sat us after pointing at at a table that still had dishes on it and said that they just needed to clean it up real quick. The whole restaurant seemed a little bit understaffed as far as service, but it's also a pretty small room. There were three tables full of dirty dishes when we walked in, which isn't to be unexpected in a situation like that, but does kind of leave a weird presentation. Once we were seated we were given no direction on how to get started, which was really weird being from out of town and all. Eventually we looked at this very tiny little card that just had a little face on it and turned it around and low and behold there was the QR code. But the server didn't tell us that and there was no signage anywhere indicating that that was what we were supposed to do. When the server came back over they asked us if we had found the menu okay, which of course at that point we had. We ordered the gyoza and the karaage to start and were underwhelmed by both. The gyoza was cold around the edges as if they had heated up just enough or maybe sat on the counter in the back for a little bit too long for the edges to get cold. And the chicken appetizer was just subpar at best. Not really any flavor in the chicken or in the sauce. Though it sort of bridged the gap if you use the sauce from the gyozo with the chicken. The soba tasted and felt like maruchan you made at home and left sitting on the counter for about an hour. It was by no means awful, but not exactly what we were expecting in a dish like that. And the spicy miso had a pretty decent flavor, though a little neutralized. The spice was the equivalent of a shin red ramen that you would buy at the grocery store. Not too hot, but had a tiny bit of kick. The pork belly wasn't horrible, but again was just sort of medium in my opinion. The green onion was cut into these huge chunks instead of being finally cut and spread over the top. The ground beef inside the ramen was actually quite tasty and there could have stood to be more in the dish. Other than that, again, pretty underwhelming. The table next to us had apparently ordered the hottest ramen that they have and they were exclaiming how their mouth went numb. That's not my bag, but if it's yours maybe you should give that a try! We had a fine time and after driving as long as we did today, we were just fulfilling our tradition for our first dinner in a new town being a ramen shop (if applicable). To be honest, this one wasn't even the first on my list, but it was a lot closer than the one that I wanted to try initially. And again, after I drive as long as we had it made more sense to just take the convenient route and hope for the best. This wasn't the best but it definitely wasn't the worst either. read more
