The soups I tried were too thick - my spoon was close to standing in the Irish potato - the tomato basil was sickening sweet. I gave up. The salad bar was neither good nor bad. The only vegetable that had any flavor was the baby carrot. If you're out for garlic bread or mini muffins, however, you're in luck. Both of those items had identifiable taste and texture. I love this place! I too have been watching and waiting for this place to finish up and open. It was well worth the anticipation. Our first visit will surely not be the last, the decor is wonderful, staff was very friendly and the food was light and amazingly delicious. We can't wait to go back and try the rest of the menu. I really like how they individually pack each sandwich into their own brown bag-- it makes it so much easier when you're ordering for a bunch of people. My favorites there are the portobello wraps and their soups. Their baked potatoes are really good too-- and HUGE.. so be prepared to share it with someone! What can I say that the other 50+ reviewers before me haven't already? So I decided to read some of the reviews to see what was left out that I could add, but I ended up finding a pattern to some complaints about poor service. Though I have never experienced poor service, I don't doubt that it has been experienced by others. We use Yelp for real people's individual experiences and to have an idea of what to expect. So this pattern is something that I would be concerned about. I noticed that the poor service occurred when the restaurant was empty. I've always visited Jason's Deli during traditional lunch and dinner hours, and have had good service; so keep that in mind when visiting, it might save you some frustration. Continuing on, in the sandwich and deli department, I'd have to say Jason's Deli is probably one of the best. The ingredients are always fresh, your food is served at the preferred temperature (hot or cold), and you know you are having a healthy meal, as most of the ingredients are organic. I love the "Manager's Half Sandwich Deal" which adds a soup, salad or fresh fruit to your meal and leave you enough room to enjoy the FREE soft serve ice cream. It's self serve and has the options of cones or a bowl, and they have organic chocolate to top it off. I particularly enjoy the The New York Yankee, and as of today, the Club Royale. The chicken tortilla soup really tasty too and is the Saturday soup of the day. Oh and we can't forget about the ginormous baked potatoes! Guess I actually did have something to write. I haven't been to a Jason's Deli in years before this visit. They have totally rehauled their appearance and it look very similar to a cozy Panera like feel. There menu is extensive and seems to be full of flavor, toppings and various breads. I opted for the Sante Fe Chicken sandwich which was southwest seasoned chicken topped with bacon, cheese and guacamole. The giant picture helped sell me on the idea too! It was just as good as it looked. I am interested to try many other things on the menu and had a hard time picking between them. Favorite place that my girlfriend and I love going to. She loves the meataballa sub and has gotten that every time we go there ( which is rare because she gets sick of the same foods all the time). If you are Gluten free-AVOID THIS PLACE! Jason's touts that they have a GF menu, but the incompetent staff won't remember your order well enough to have it made correctly. My husband stopped there after running a few errands. I told him I wanted the "Chicago Club" with Gluten Free bread, no tomato. He specifically told the employee the order to make sure that everything was correct. She even read it back to him! He gets home with food in tow, and only for us to find that they made me a regular club with, ham, cheese and regular gluten laden bread. We did not make the drive back. On foot because of taking the bus, and we saw a sign for Subway near the Dominics strip mall so we walked in that direction. My club royale hit the spot, and I enjoyed the spicy gumbo with shrimp, rice, vegetables. Her croissant was flaky the way she likes it, not stale or soggy. I did not know about the free ice cream, but if that isn't enough of a reason to return soon just take a look at the menu. Hot corned beef, pastrami, swiss cheese on rye bread. This was a hefty sandwish with easily 1/2 to 3/4 lb of meat just like you would get in NY. The pastrami was not as peppery as I like but the sandwich was very tasty, juicy, and filling. The sandwich came with a bag of chips and a pickle. Easily as good as some of the similar sandwiches I've had in New York. The menu has a wide range of offerings, some veggie options, lots of sandwiches, pastas, soups, etc. Very reasonable prices. Decided to try Jason's off the strength of the reviews. I was craving soup and sandwich and didn't want Panera or anything like that. So I ordered the half soup, tomato basil, and half sandwich which I customized and got roasted turkey. I was disappointed in the tomato soup because I figured it would be like a traditional tomato soup and be puréed but I was dead wrong. Large chunks of tomato which totally grossed me out. My girlfriends and I went to Jason's Deli after watching a movie at ICON. Yes, it was girls' night out. Anyhow, I have heard about Jason's Deli, but this was my first experience dining at Jason's. I ordered the half sandwich special. The sandwich... Portabello Wrapini. The soup... Spicy Seafood Gumbo. The chips... potato, not baked (give me a break, I went healthy with my other food choices). The sandwich...Delicious. The soup...Spicy and good. The chips...tasty. The staff and service...superb. My girlfriends and I laughed and joked, we didn't notice the time. There was one other group still eating also. But the deli was closed. The staff was cleaning and preparing box lunches for a catering order in the morning. They locked the doors, but allowed us to continue to enjoy each other's company. They never said a word. We didn't know they were closed until we started to leave and they unlocked the door for us. One of the employees stated we had work to do and your party was enjoying each other, so we allowed you to stay, no problem. I have eaten at establishments where if its near closing time the employees have an attitude, they rush you, or lock the door early. It was refreshing to have this experience at Jason's Deli. So I don't go into the city much but at this particular time I went with some family to taste wedding cakes for my sisters wedding. After we decided to go here and eat for dinner. My sister lives in the city so she knows all the good places. I have to say I was a bit skeptical because I never been here before and I didn't know if I would like anything. It took me a couple of minutes to read over the menu, which they have handy paperback ones available to take. I read over one of those to see what each dish has in it and what I would potentially like. I ended up getting a chicken wrap on whole wheat pita bread with sauted onions and a cup of broccoli and cheese soup. Once I started to eat OMGoodness! I was in heaven. The soup was the best broccoli and cheese soup I have ever had. It was creamy and had nice big pieces of broccoli in it. The wrap also VERY good. The chicken has a little kick to it which was good. The only down side to that dish is that I used a lot of napkins because of the onions. There was quite a bit of grease dripping in my hands. Major upsides, they have a great salad bar, FREE ice cream, the food is healthy and fills you up, there is parking (it's in a strip mall, I like that), they deliver, when you order in the store you sit down with a number and they bring the food to you - talk about service! The Jason's Deli on Canal Street does a very nice job. They have a wonderful staff and their cashiers are all knowledgeable and very friendly! It has become my go to place for lunch when I am in town. The menu is extensive and everything is of good quality at reasonable prices. I have been really enjoying the soups since Fall is upon us! The Chicken noodle is great, as is their beef stew, and the spicy seafood gumbo is excellent and is quite spicy. Their Maine lobster chowder is very good too. The only issue I have had is sometimes the soup is thick, and sometimes it is thin? Maybe it sat on the steam table too long and the water evaporates? It's fabulous when right. When the spicy gumbo is thick the spice level rises. Broth is important in soups and stews. This is my only qualm. I highly recommend this restaurant. My dining companion had a made to order turkey breast sandwhich which was insanely big.. The place was still packed at 1:30p.m. Service was fast, considering how crowded it was. The salad bar looks great. Of course the soft serve ice cream was a real treat. The menu is really huge which always makes it hard to order the first time you go to a place. They are open until 10 p.m. so I'm happy to add another dinner option when we don't feel like cooking. Today was my first time visiting Jason's Deli. I was talked into buying the New York Yankee for about $8.25 after tax. It has corned beef and pastrami. It was supposed to have mustard or mayo, but they omitted it and forget to ask me if I wanted it. It being my first time, I was confused. The sandwiches are small. For $8, I was expecting something larger. I took one bite and was disappointed. I ate half the sandwich and I couldn't keep it down, so I just went to the restroom to relieve myself. Since the sandwich was small, I thought that the salad bar was included for $8. However, I soon realized after getting a few things that it was not. The salad bar would have been another $8. I was embarrassed, but the sandwich was awful, so I said the heck with it. Besides, the salad bar is nothing to write home about. There's not much to it. I got some potato and pasta salad. The highlight of the trip was the soft serve ice cream, however, they were out of fudge topping. In defense of Jason's Deli, I have never had pastrami. Every time I go to Jason's I always get the Pollo Mexicano Potato and it's such a bang for your buck and delicious! & then the whole free ice cream thing pulls me in EVERY TIME lol but today I went with my cousin and our potatoes took a while and I was a little worried because we were on lunch and still had to be back at work on time. Well the Manager came and let us know that they were in the oven which is why it was taking a while but they'd be out shortly, he then offered us a soup or a salad while we waited and he reimbursed us for the wait. Such a kind man, then the waiter "Magnificent Marquita" introduced herself and gladly helped us with whatever we needed with a huge smile the whole time. I have always been pleased with Jason's until recently.....two visits in a row the corned beef sandwich was Stone cold. This last visit I sent it back and asked for it to be hot.
