Outside nestled within a beautiful canopy of trees

I have one word: BROWNIES!!! Went to help move my daughter out for the summer and she took me here specifically to try the brownies. They were soooooo good! I didn't get to taste anything else but I hope they never change that brownie recipe. So moist and flavorful, not loaded with too much sugar. No room inside to eat but cute outside patio beneath a canopy of shade trees that only Sac State can offer! It looked closed from the outside, but it was very much open.

Decided to stop in here for a an iced cold brew coffee and was sadly disappointed. The brew tastes burned and watered down. Gross. I told the staff and they replaced it with a white mocha which was better. However, I would know how the roast tastes since it's covered up with sugar. The people are nice but I probably won't got back unless it's for a pastry. The pastries look amazing.

Java city is cool! I always refill my bottle of water here. They make a good caramel macchiato! They remodeled the place so it looks soooo much nicer then it used to! It's a really cute spot and has outdoor seating which is nice for when the weather is good! They also serve pastries and little bites to eat!

This cute little coffee spot is the perfect decompressor for the dedicated student. Nestled next to Lassen Hall and the big lawn on the CSU Sacramento campus, Java City offers delicious treats, sweets, coffees and teas to keep the college student or campus visitor happy and energized. They love holiday themes, so right now it is decked out with homely Thanksgiving and autumn decor. There are several tables and benches with umbrellas outside for seating, besides the lawn to throw out a blanket on and take a nap. Inside the shop is just enough room for the lines for coffee, so no indoor tables. Free campus WiFi is accessible, but the coffee shop has no traceable public WiFi of its own. I've ordered a regular black coffee with cream and sugar and a hot chai latte. Both were delicious and I would readily order either again in a heartbeat. This December I can guarantee you that I'll be ordering. Some more holiday-themed lattes and hot chocolate. Go check it out if you are in the area! Overall, a big 4/5! Great coffee spot!

    Medium white mocha latte!

This is the next best thing to Starbucks. If you are a sac state student or ever been on campus this is a nice spot right by the library. There is always a line there...especially in the morning. Sometime you might get lucky. I ordered a medium white mocha latte with no whip cream. It was a little bit sweet, but it gave me my caffeine intake. They also have a great selection of pastries like muffin and bagels.

I only resort to Java City b/c it is the only coffee shop on campus. I always order the White Mocha. The White Mocha from Starbucks is way better than the one at Java City. Their coffees aren't comparable to Starbucks. Sometimes, the line could be ridicously long. It could take some time until you get your drink. Also, they have stamp cards and after 10 drinks, you get one for free. The Southwestern Chicken sandwich is good, but the bread is very hard to bite through. I usually toast it so it's easier to take a bite. It has chicken, tomato, lettuce, cheddar cheese, and chipotle mayo. The chipotle mayo brings out the flavor of the sandwich.

My yummy vanilla latte on a rainy day (:

Their menu is simple, yet complex (in the best way possible). There are coffee drinks and tea drinks (matcha and hojicha). If you've never had hojicha, this is the place for a new morning tea drink! Previously, I've only had hojicha in Napa at the Oxbow, so it's not the easiest to come by. If I could describe hojicha, it would be matcha's earthier, non-grassy cousin. Love, love LOVE it. If you like matcha, you'll like hojicha. I opted for the Twice Hojicha and I could literally drink that everyday. The cream top hit the spot! Smooth and creamy. You HAVE to try it. 10/10 roll would recommend.

They have a parking lot but it's shared with other businesses and always seems to be full, however there's a good amount of street parking and I found a spot closeby no problem. When I walked in it was a lot bigger than I expected and they had a good amount of seating. There wasn't a line when I arrived, but that quickly changed after I placed my order and I feel like there was a steady stream of customers the whole time I was there. I was welcomed in and when I let them know it was my first time they recommended some items for me. I'm not a matcha fan, so I was more interested in trying their coffee. I ordered their date orange latte ($7), the twice hojicha ($7.50), and their simple avocado toast ($9). I had heard hojicha is a less grassy, more earthy/toasty version of matcha so I was excited to give it a try and see if I liked it more than matcha. Good news! Hojicha, at least the twice hojicha from Offbeat was delicious. I enjoyed the taste of tea and the aftertaste that matcha usually has for me wasn't there. I would 100% order this again. The date orange latte (iced) was also delicious and the flavors were perfect for our warm weather. The simple avocado toast had a thick piece of fresh baked bread with a generous layer of avocado on top. I don't frequently order avocado toast but it paired well with the drinks and is a great meal to start the day. I can see why this is a favorite for so many people and now that I've finally been in, I'll be back for more!

Shoutout to Steven for his amazinggg service like where do you guys find baristas this efficient and talented with customer interactions ! He recommended the Vanilla Bourbon latte with sweet cold foam and it was fireeee. I recommend adding cinnamon powder on top. The vibe here is also really unique. I know the car in the middle might throw some people off at first, but I honestly love the minimal/open layout and how there's space between tables instead of cramming everyone together. The aesthetic is super nice, and there's also a giant mirror if you want cute pics with your friends. The drinks are a little pricey for the size, so this will probably be more of a treat-yourself spot for me, but overall I had a great experience. Good wifi, good seating, great vibes all around. Would definitely recommend checking it out. Thanks Chloe !
