A hidden jem! Last spring (Feb'13) we stayed at a different resort from where we usually rent, and right across the street was Java Jazz. We went for coffee & breakfast a few mornings and dinner one night. On our most recent trip to Maui in Oct'13, we weren't staying as close, but we still went back to Java Jazz for dinner and it did not disappoint. We had our 11 month old daughter with us too, and they were great with her - we had an awesome meal, excellent live music and great service. We will be back! read more

Great joe with an eclectic ambiance. Music in the background but not too loud. Had the French toast with a side of Portuguese sausage. Both were good and the server was very attentive. The food was at our table within 10 minutes contrary to all the reviews that said their food took 45 minutes etc. A word to the wise, if a restaurant is full. There is a chance you will wait 30+ minutes for your food. If you want good quick go to Denny's etc. This isn't a place you need to make sure you visit on a trip to Maui, but if you are staying in the Lahaina area I would definitely recommend stopping by. They have live jazz every night by different performers which is also a plus. read more

Had breakfast three days in a row. The food was in large portions and reasonability priced for Maui. Their Huevos Rancheros was spicy but not hot spicy. It did not look like any HR I had ever seen. It had a very nice flavor. Only had it once because I wanted a smaller breakfast. Second and third day had the early bird special. Only ate 1/2 of the pancake. Beware: coffee is $2 with $1 refills. Just enjoyed our first breakfast here and it was excellent. I enjoyed the huevos rancheros and my husband enjoyed the French toast. Great size portions and excellent service! Went with my family on a Sunday morning. The seating was quick and the service was swift. I highly recondite the Loco Moko and the Huevos Rancheros. The portions are large and the atmosphere very easy going. Very eclectic setting don't let that stop you from going in its part of the charm. read more

We heard good things about this place and wanted to see what it was all about. Boy were we blown away. The service was slow and food was way below average in taste and presentation. Great little place with an amazing burger. We have the lunch special of buy one burger get one for $5. Our side choice was salad, very fresh with a nice balsamic. I came into breakfast with my family and the food was pretty decent, although it wasn't anything you couldn't find at a local Denny's or any breakfast establishment for that matter. The coffee was self serve, which was slightly disappointing because when you go into a place with the word "Java" in it you would expect some sort of fancy secret recipe only they would be allowed to pour. But other than those basic flaws the service was good and the decor was very... Unique, which was actually kind of nice. Went there with friends to get coffee to go. On the way out the door, my friends cup exploded and coffee went all over him and the ground. The owner was on site and yelled and cursed at my friend for because he didn't think that the exploding cup was Java Jazz's fault. The employees apologized for the owners tirade. Java Jazz became our local favorite during our 10 day Maui vacation. Food was always great. Recommend the fish tacos, shrimp salad and definitely the 'Ultimate Burger.' I'm only giving it two stars because the food was really good and The waitress was SUPER nice and sweet but I felt bad because she was literally running the place by herself. Several people got up and left because nobody served them, and they were there before us so god knows how long they were sitting there. This place is conveniently located across the street from our hotel. We decided to indulge in some shaved ice on this hot afternoon and it was a nice treat. The regular size, which allows you to get 2 flavors is huge, otherwise the kid size would be perfect but you only get 1 flavor. They offer to put ice cream at the bottom and condensed milk on top to make it creamy. I just had the watermelon and mango without the ice cream and condensed milk and it perfectly hit the spot for this hot afternoon. The regular size is $5.25. I've been to Maui 8 times and this is actually my first time getting shaved ice (don't know how I've missed it)! read more

We actually went here twice. The first time we were ignored so we left, but decided to give it a second chance since it was within walking distance to our resort. It's decor is quirky but interesting. There was a band, 3 guys playing the guitar, sax and harmonica. They were AWESOME!!! It was so much fun!! The food was good, but it wouldn't have mattered to me what the food was like because the place was just different and the music was so good. We had spent all day driving the road to Hana and we were exhausted, but we still stayed until they played their last song! Our party of 4 were all disappointed in our food. Mediocre at best. My 10oz burger $16 that I requested medium was over cooked and just okay and had to pay extra for fries. One member of our party ordered a grilled cheese and charged $9 that was horrible. His side salad was just okay, nothing special and did not touch. My son's wings were nothing special and got 8 for $14. My other son's fish and chips $16 consisted of 4 meager pieces so way over priced. A to go order of garlic bread $5 was terrible. My iced tea was very weak with little or no ice and no offer to refill. Overall a bad experience that I conveyed to our server Debbie who did act genuinely concerned. read more
